Quick Overview
See Standard Operating Procedure and Standard Operating Procedure (Command)

The NanoTrasen Representative is a Karma unlocked job that is currently priced at 30 Karma. As an NT Rep you must make sure everything is up to NanoTrasen standards, and you SHOULD give CentComm regular updates via your fax machine.
Overview
The NanoTrasen Representative functions as an advisory role aboard the NSS Cyberiad. As the NanoTrasen Representative you are to be chiefly concerned with the operations of the command staff aboard the Cyberiad, ensuring that they follow reasonable and appropriate procedure. You are also required to make sure that the company's goals and interests are being represented and furthered upon the station, and that the Captain and his immediate subordinates (The Heads of Staff) are not putting the interests of NanoTrasen at risk.

You have no authority over any of the heads of staff, and report to the Captain in most cases, but in special cases CentComm may grant you authority to take action on the station if you give them proper reasons to via fax. However, you are one of the highest ranked non-head of staff.
It is important to note that the NanoTrasen Representative has no formal authority on the station whatsoever. The position of NanoTrasen Representative is only an advisory role and you are not permitted to directly intercede in the affairs of the Captain or the Heads of Staff unless you have explicit permission from Central Command. You are however required to note and advise on activities that run counter to either NanoTrasen's interests or to established Standard Operating Procedure for members of Command, as well as report to Central Command via fax if your concerns are going unaddressed.

Much like IAA, you are sent as oversight for the station. However, unlike IAA, you are to be more proactive in putting forth NanoTrasen's interests. You most likely were a head of staff before being given this role, or even a Captain who is taking a bit of a break.
The Pen is Mightier Than The Cane
Your fax machine is your greatest, and perhaps only, friend aboard the NSS Cyberiad. It functions as the intermediary between you and Central Command and should be used in a manner befitting of your station. Upon your arrival on the station you should announce your presence to any and all members of Command, as well as fax a brief introductory message to their fax machines. You should also take stock of the current situation aboard the NSS Cyberiad, note any deficiencies (or lack thereof) in the Command Team or station itself, and make a brief summary report to send back to Central Command.

Play Style
As your position is largely an advisory one, you should reserve sending faxes regarding minor discrepancies in Command procedure until you have already advised the Head of Staff or Captain regarding the situation. You should always attempt to ameliorate the issue at hand first prior to faxing Central Command, and only send a fax when your advice goes unheeded or corrective action is not taken. If, however, the violation is severe and is putting the interests of NanoTrasen at immediate risk, you are advised to send a fax to Central Command about the manner immediately.
The NT Rep is a role that revolves around assessing the station and sending reports to CentComm, much like Internal Affairs, but focused on keeping EVERYTHING that could damage the NT's economy or their profits aboard the NSS Cyberiad.

Given the nature of NT Rep's job, it's also a highly RP oriented job. You should not be assuming direct control of any department without authorization from CentComm (In fact, you can't), nor should you be doing that department's job (You're just the friendly NT adviser... until Central Command gives you the POWER to rule those pesky crewmembers).
It is also your duty as an NT Rep to ensure that you are appraised of any active threat aboard the station, and subsequently inform Central Command of its presence if they are unaware of the situation at hand. Whether or not you are proactive in accurately and aptly reporting on active threats aboard the station can be the difference between receiving an Amber, Red, or Gamma ERT in an emergency situation.

You are quite an asset to the heads, and most likely will work with the HoP in paperwork and HR related activities. But you might be a science adviser, security consultant, etc. That's where your character's history comes into play!
It goes without saying that your reports should be concise, to the point, and bear both your stamp and your signature. You should be both cordial and succinct with your advice to Command, and in your faxes.
Jobtime!
Well, now let's jump to the fun part.

WAIT!
You should never threaten to send a fax to Central Command. Your job is to advise Command, not intimidate them or abuse your position. If the situation is so dire as to warrant you threatening Command with a fax, doing so can put you in direct danger and prevent you from sending the fax in the first place (which runs counter to NT's interests). A maligned or incompetent Captain is more likely to try and arrest you if you're threatening them, than allow you to send a fax to Central Command.

Before setting on your fancy cane and starting a coup d'etat with the Blueshield Officer against the Captain, you should really write a starting report to CC(Also called Admins) to alert them that you're a good, hardworking, and even friendly NT Rep that works for their Greater Good! (A.K.A. Increasing your paycheck and gaining even more power).
Internal Affairs and YOU!
The NanoTrasen Representative - unlike the Legal Department/Internal Affairs - is not to concern himself/herself with the daily squabbles and complaints of crewmembers. You have been sent to the station as oversight for the command team and should direct any and all lesser complaints to an Internal Affairs Agent, unless it meets one of the following criteria;
* There is no available Internal Affairs Agent, Lawyer, or Public Defender.
* Internal Affairs/Command were unable to resolve the issue at hand.
* The matter concerns a Head of Staff, the Blueshield, or the Captain.
* The matter is egregious and runs counter to NanoTrasen's interests.

Besides that, you should really do a starting report alerting CC about everything that seems different from the usual, exemplar, utopian shift they would love to see, even from the very start.
Procedure
One you arrive on the station and appraise yourself of the situation, you should actively monitor communications and the activities of the Heads of Staff. While the following does not necessarily cover all scenarios, it should give you concrete examples of how the NanoTrasen representative should act and conduct themselves aboard the NSS Cyberiad.

After that, wait for about two or three minutes to get a response (If you sent an important report) or go wherever you want if you start-reported (They generally won't respond to the initial one, but they are appreciated.)
Upon discovering a potential violation of Standard Operating Procedure, or an existing one;
* Take note of the situation, and address it with the offending member of command.
* Do not immediately send a fax to Central Command, or threaten to do so at any point.
* Advise on appropriate procedure regarding the situation and try to resolve the issue locally.
* Remain appraised on whether or not the offending person has taken corrective action, and if SoP is now being followed.
* Fax Central Command if your advice has gone unheeded or corrective action has not been taken.
* Stand-by for further instruction from Central Command.

Usually you will be running around the Cyberiad 'inspecting' the Bar or Hydroponics from the inside, talking about how powerful and sexy NT is, listening to the complaints of the other crewmembers about the fact that the NT is a greedy bastard capitalistic corporation, etc.
Upon witnessing an action that is directly and immediately counter to NT's interests, such as the Captain or Head of Security flagrantly violating Space Law;
* Do not attempt to ameliorate or address the issue with the offending persons.
* Draft a report with all relevant details. Ensure you stamp and sign it.
* Immediately fax Central Command and stand-by for further instruction.

Seems boring?
Upon discovering a major or immediate threat to the NSS Cyberiad, such as a tactical nuclear strike team;
Most of the times your job is like this...
* Take note of the situation at hand and all relevant details.
* Record your observations in a signed, stamped, and written report.
* Immediately fax your report to Central Command with a clearly identifiable title.
* Proceed to a secure area and stand-by for further instruction from Central Command.

BUT!
Upon the permanent death or subversion of the Captain;
* Ensure procedure is being followed. The Head of Personnel should become Acting Captain.
* In absence of the HoP, the Head of Security should take up the mantle of Captaincy.
* If both the HoS and HoP are unavailable, the CMO, CE, and RD are to jointly run the station or vote on Acting Captain.
* Fax Central Command and inform them about the permanent loss/subversion of their Captain.

There's always a moment into the shift when the Shit Hits The Fan!
Upon being brought a complaint that does not concern a Command member;
* Direct the person to an Internal Affairs Agent, unless the previously mentioned criteria are met.

And in that moment, you start sparkling like a little sun!
FAQ
Q: Is it really that important to sign and stamp your reports?

In fact, your job requires that you report to CentComm everything that goes against their plans, and when something goes against their plans inside the NSS Cyberiad, you should take a look at it or listen to the chatters you hear about it, report it to CentComm, maybe write some of your thoughts into your report and Tadà!, time to act!
A: An unsigned or unstamped report is not an official one. Subsequently, Central Command is likely to ignore your report (or worse!) if they can't verify it's actually you sending it.

For example, if the situation is bad, you could ask for the ERT, specifying even the kind of ERT you need, or ask for the Quarantine Law for the AI, require some support from the Main Base - such as extra hardsuits, Goats for Space Vines, etc.

That's when you really start loving your job.
Q: What should my reports contain?

The Bureaucracy, The Crew and You
A: Your report should contain any and all information that's pertinent to the matter at hand, along with the specific procedure that's being violated or concrete examples of why the activity actively harms the interests of NanoTrasen. If possible, though not required, you may also include pictures or audio transcripts when relevant. While you should include your recommendations in the report, do not attempt to boss Central Command around. Your reports should be concise and be signed and stamped. A well-written, one paragraph report is more likely to see substantive action taken than a six paragraph monologue will.

Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking, but being a NT Rep you should deal even with this kind of problems, mainly because your rank is even higher than the IAA's!

And this means that you should think twice before reporting some supposed case of 'shitcurity', because your report goes straight to the Admins, and they could assume that you have already did some kind of investigation (YOU DID IT, RIGHT?). Always make sure to check your facts before sending a fax.
Q: When should I fax?
Remember that unless some intervention is actually required, do not ask for it. NT expect you know Standard Operating Procedure. Asking them what to do if security are harmbatoning people is not required. Asking what to do if the HoS is claiming the Captain is a changeling though, is.

Dos And Don'ts Of The Good NT Rep
A: You should fax whenever you are unable to resolve an issue locally, when you are unsure of how to proceed, or when there is a major or immediate threat to NanoTrasen's interests/the station itself. You should also periodically send a fax appraising Central Command of any new or important developments on station.

DO!
* Remain Impartial. You are an external advisor, first and foremost. This may impact your social life more than being a xeno, but you are required by your job to put aside emotional attachment to any particular crewmember in order to work well in the name of NT!
* Follow Procedure. NanoTrasen upholds a Standard Operating Procedure. You're a representative of Nanotrasen; to not follow your own procedure is, at best, poor form.
* Trust the Facts. Acting on allegations is an easy way to get you fired (And Banned...). Make sure you have ENOUGH evidence before you report something that could result in IC CC intervention or Administrative action from Staff.

DON'T!
Q: Does the NanoTrasen Representative have any formal authority over anyone on the station?
* Do Not Threaten Someone With Your Reports. While a well written and condemning report can lead to someone's demotion, contract termination, or TOTAL termination, it's not your job to wave it around like some kind of weapon.
* Do Not Be The Security Volunteer Criminals and other threats to the station are under the purview of the Security, not yours, if you wanted to act as a Security member why have you chosen the NT Rep job?
* Do Not Be The Proactive Detective Have a legitimate suspicion to start an incriminating report before you attempt to do so. Consulting a head of staff or the co-workers for more information about the subject is always a good idea when you have decided to act.

And remember: NEVER TAKE A SIDE UNLESS IT'S NANOTRANSEN'S SIDE!
A: No, the NanoTrasen Representative is an advisory role focused around procedure and roleplay. The only time you can exercise formal authority is when you have been authorized to do so, or every member of command is dead (at which point you are the de-facto Acting Captain).

Question and Answers!
Q: What should be in a good NT Rep report?
Q: I've heard that the NanoTrasen Representative is the Blueshield's boss. Is this true?

A: Everything that could possibly harm the NT's Interests in that Station...if you're in doubt - Report It!
A: Whilst the Blueshield is technically subordinate to the NanoTrasen Representative, they do not have to report to or listen to you. However, any complaints about the Blueshield should be directed toward you rather than Internal Affairs. If a serious issue with the Blueshield occurs, you should fax Central Command. You should never attempt to discipline the Blueshield.

Q: What should I do if the Station is filled with Xeno scum and Plasma?
Q: Can I perform an arrest if a member of Command is seriously out of line?

A: The real question is why the hell haven't you called an ERT when one of the said things showed up and you instead waited for both to appear?
A: Absolutely not unless Central Command explicitly gives you the personal authority to do so. For example, if you are given the go-ahead to have the Captain arrested you must work with the Security Department and have either the Head of Security or a Security Officer conduct the arrest.

Q: Hey! CentCom never answer to my reports, what should I do?
Q: Can I order Internal Affairs Agents around on cases?

A: Well,just wait!
A: No. IAA's are in no way, shape, or form subordinate to you. It may however be a good idea to work in concert with the Internal Affairs department if the matter is serious, or they have additional information regarding the incident.
The Admins always read them, and you should remember that they have a lot of things to do, not just answering reports!

Also remember, writing a good reply takes a lot of time, and if people are currently griefing, or there is a bug to fix, they might not have time. Resending it in 5 minutes is fine.

Q: Can you give me an example of a typical fax a NanoTrasen Representative might send?

Q: Why can't I use my rank to be the undisputed king of the station and have tons of dosh'n bitches?
