  1. I like this idea. I've drafted up a rewrite following some of your suggestions for supply SOP(unfortunately the system for this isn't public) especially some of the cross referencing stuff.  Also, having duplicate clauses a.k.a QM clause 1 and CT clause isn't necessarily bad practice, that reiteration is necessary to establish that it is both roles responsibilities especially one that is the primary purpose of that department.

Unfortunately you can't really force cargo to be on top of their paperwork, if they are great, otherwise it's up to the IAA to actually cross check order papers as well as the received crate manifests.

I also would like to add these clauses to replace the cross referencing issues. This is not an unrealistic expectation by any means, especially for players who play QM or decide to assist cargo as a shaft miner.

    8. The Quartermaster is required to follow the guidelines put in place for Cargo Technicians;

    8. Shaft Miners are bound by guidelines set for Cargo Technicians when inside the Cargo Office or Bay;

  2. Edgar is a very formal person generally. A bit quiet sometime as well. These are his civilian wear, I will post what else Edgars wears for warden, IAA, etc. You generally won't find him without dress shoes and cheap sunglasses.

    From Left to Right.

On Business, edgar always wears this when he's performing administrative work

General Wear, Edgar loves his purple suit jacket and like to roll with a soft yellowish brown jumpsuit(and blue tie) with the leather book bag.

Investigative/Contract Work, whenever Edgar is working for an agency, doing detective work, or just in general being in the field outside of running business this is what he will wear, heavily inspired by the blues brothers.

Chef's Wear, whenever Edgar is cooking at one of his franchises he always dons laborers overalls and a chef's hat, he'll occasionally have a utility apron as well.

  3. Hey everyone! Updates are light but consistent this month. I have just began my first year at university under a rigorous program and as a result have had to dial back how much hours I can invest into our wiki; Nonetheless I think we've still made significant progress this month of August.

Most of the work has been nitty gritty shit that is not fun to edit. We have tied up a large extent of licensing of images, however we still need people to go over the goon icon folder and seek out those images on the wiki as well as wiki-specific images. More work has been done on categorization, our category tree is coming along and I hope to see it finished by late October. Our Revision Requests are beginning to grow in number and size, contributor help is MUCH appreciated.

What needs to be done on the Wiki:

    August Change Log:

This Months Contributors that I haven't recognized yet: @Agatasa @TheYeetster

Good work guys, consistent progress is good. What I really need help with is tackling the articles with big problems in them. There's quite a few articles building up that need to be rewritten and gone over by our expert players. I can keep us up to date with PR's and any kind of maintenance/organizationl work that needs to be done, however I cannot knock out entire article reworks very quickly as evident by my toil of rewriting the ERT page. I just need some people to commit to rewriting stuff.

if you were @'d on this post it means that you contributed meaningfully to our wiki in some aspect and I'd hope you are willing to stay around another month to keep doing so. If you want to get involved with editing the wiki and don't know how, @ me on the discord and I'll happily sit down and teach you stuff when I get the chance. I hope to continue doing this every month. Here is a syntax guide for those who are curious

As always, thanks for the hard work everyone!

  4. Firstly, antags do not need this buff. They are designed around the fact that they will eventually be caught and will need to go loud, the longer they're given a chance to snowball(stay stealthy) the more powered they're gonna be when discovered. They are designed around this core game mechanic of commons being available.

I think you guys are missing an integral issue here. SS13 is all about your interactions with other players and this removes a very significant game design mechanic that revolves around that idea of interaction. [Common] provides context about the round to most if not all players. If you take away everyone's (most everyone) ability to talk on a global communication network quickly and easily, you take away that context. This in turn makes the game much more boring, uneventful, and confusing

    Take this example:

Over Commons you hear players begin shouting about some mysterious figure: "EMAG MAN." They say that a man in a blood-red hardsuit is running around the station emagging objects and machines. You can slowly trace their path as each respective department throws up their groans and complaints over comms as this "EMAG MAN" runs through their department amok. You can also hear security on comms frantically asking for the location of them.

All of a sudden you see a man in a blood-red suit run in front of you and emag their way into maints.

That is a very interesting and funny experience I've had on station in the past. Now Imagine that my only purview into that situation was the second part of that scenario, I did not hear anything on comms, infact I knew nothing about the situation until it crossed my path. Interesting? Maybe, I would probably forget about it and write it off since syndies are a common occurence in game. However, since I heard about this on comms for a few minutes before I had that experience, I now have context about this odd man running around and now my experiences are linked with the experiences of other people. This isn't some generic syndie/criminal, this is the notorious outlaw "EMAG MAN" and I just fucking crossed paths with them.

It not only makes things less confusing to the player, it gives situations more meaning, impact, and weight. It builds on the story the game and the player work so hard to make.

    Take Another Example:

You hear a massive explosion, it shakes the station and leaves you a bit dizzy from screen shake. Without Commons this would likely result in you, once again, writing it off since you have no reason to care about it.

Now imagine that right before that explosion, over comms you hear:

[Common] John Ham [Security Officer] "THE CLOWN'S GOT A BOMB!"

[Common] Chuckles [Clown] "Get me the captain or I'll blow it all to hell!"

Now that explosion isn't just any generic explosion, you understand the importance of it as well as getting the chance to experience the outcome of other players' experience even if it's across the station. You are brought into that experience, that story, by just listening in to what other players have to say.

On top of context, commons provide organization for the entire crew. Communication has to be collective and not forced through the bottleneck of bureaucracy that is command, otherwise it will take 5 minutes for command to come to a decision and make an announcement about Blob, Tspider, Syndies, War, etc which can significantly reduce the crews chances of making an organized assault. This also has implications for special events and players doing gimmicks where now your average player has no way to advertise themselves besides begging a head to make an announcement.

    Spoiler

Communication amongst your department, to the crew, and in aggregate for command, is unceasing, but no one really has the option to disable any channels, because they all carry some amount of information worth appraising.

This is precisely why we should not limit commons, you are taking away player's access to information. You have the very easy ability of just disabling commons on your radio headset if you do not want to listen to commons. I think you are grossly overstating how often commons is used, it is not a constant flood of chat messages, certainly not enough to take away from an interaction you're having face-to-face with another player.

Forcing players to run over to an intercom or sit by one in order to enjoy the benefits of commons actively makes this game less fun.

I see absolutely zero benefit to this addition, all this does is make it harder for players to communicate and understand what's going on.

  5. Hey everyone! Updates are solid this month, also I've been tied up in learning trialmin stuff so I haven't hadn't a ton of time to work on stuff. But here's everything that's going on.

Licensing is a thing that we've really dropped the ball on. After some discussion, ALL IMAGES need to have licenses included on the page(I'm working on doing this en masse with tools). However, if you upload an image to the wiki YOU MUST specify the license it uses. There is an option when uploading to select the license, when in doubt, use CC-BY-SA 3.0 it covers the majority of sprites in our codebase, anything created by our server contributors or taken from another server without special license(goonstation) is covered under this. If you know that the image you're using is a goon asset, use CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0. Otherwise, if you're uploading a wiki specific image (flowchart, diagram, splash, etc) please use  GNU 1.3+. Please manually add them(copy and paste into file wikitext) if you're updating an image. Otherwise, me or shadey are going to virtually slap you.

    July Change Log:

    This Months Contributors that I haven't recognized yet: @Xerdies @Longpipe23 @PacifistDalek

Good work this month everyone, we're making solid progress. The fact that I feel dead on the inside from having to write this months update means that a lot of shit has got done (enough that I literally can't add all of it). Edits this month have been some heavy organizational stuff which is just upping the quality of our wiki by a lot. Every day we get closer to the goal of scholastic perfection.

if you were @'d on this post it means that you contributed meaningfully to our wiki in some aspect and I'd hope you are willing to stay around another month to keep doing so. If you want to get involved with editing the wiki and don't know how, @ me on the discord and I'll happily sit down and teach you stuff when I get the chance. 6. This is mostly for head approval and for anything else to drop glaring issues(not things you only disagree with).

Artistic Toolbox is listed as Class-S which I'm guessing is supposed to be His grace since the artistic toolbox isn't really a thing anymore I'd like to just change it to "His Grace"

I would like to alter the Class-C Chameleon contraband to include all chameleon clothing except the SecHuds and leave the other chameleon utility items(flag, projector, etc) as Class S.

Make cult items under Class C take up two columns(for readability and formatting)

Include the Nuke as an example under Grand Theft

I wanted to move syndie docs out of contraband, but the more I think about it, withholding syndie docs from command/security def warrants a perma sentence IC wise.

Also, should we consider donksoft long arms like the LMG and SMGs to be considered Class C

  7. When people shit on wiki articles very rudely. In LOOC, Dsay, OOC, discord, or whatever. Most of them never actually think to bring attention to it in #wiki-development and when some do they just come there to bitch instead of actually contribute solutions or actually offer to lift a finger to god forbid edit it.

We have max maybe 8 people who contribute 30 edits a month and 3-4 people who regularly maintain the wiki.

  8. Hey everyone! The wiki is chugging along nicely, improvements are being made slowly but consistently which is always a good sign. It always makes me happy to see that new people are stepping up and offering their writing ability and creativity to contribute to our ever growing wiki.

Now that Shadey is back, we've been discussing what steps we want take regarding lore and the appearance of the wiki. I know I keep saying I want to get a lore project started and that date keeps getting pushed back for when we will start, we're getting closer. I have a list of lore pages that are going to need to be written/revised as well as some drafted guidelines and expectations for them. When I get the green light I will make a forum post.

Other things: I'm currently attempting to develop a dark theme skin for the wiki. This entails me redoing the CSS and HTML of the actual webpage. All that's left to do with it is some styling and then I'm gonna offer it up to the community to judge.

    Projects in the Work:

    • Lore Project is slowly but surely inching closer to being ready to start
    • Images on the wiki are slowly but surely all being updated to be 64x64
      • Almost all of them are updated
    • At some point I would like to see all location page images be updated so that windows are fulltile but that's more a QOL thing and not 100% necessary to do unless someone feels up to the task
    • The looks of templates/articles/tables on the wiki may been rebranded soon
    • Guide to Editing the Wiki needs to be updated   (admin stuff, I'll likely get to this before July)
      • I will hopefully be expanding this so that there are proper tutorials to learn sprite upscaling, creating proper location images, how to use wiki syntax, and more
      • I will try and integrate(and split up) my current syntax guide in my user page for this
    • A dark theme for the wiki is in the works

Good work this month everyone, we're making solid progress. Our wiki team is growing and that brings me much joy, if you were @'d on this post it means that you contributed meaningfully to our wiki in some aspect and I'd hope you are willing to stay around another month to keep doing so.
