  1. Which guide are you using? You should be using @Ansari's guide. It's generally up to date besides the strange reagent change. It's also available IC as a book at the library: "The Medical Chemist's Cookbook" by Ansari Lorwerth.
  2. It's a redefinition to ensure that preventing crew from leaving doesn't get prevented by any of the above laws. Laws that are below other laws can only influence the higher laws by redefining terms. Conflicts with public trust ( a term i dont like in general to vague). And second public trust would be include people outside the station (the known universe) . I intended this sentence to also be a redefinition, so ideally it shouldn't conflict with anything. It's intended to nullify "Help those in need" of PALADIN and the "You must obey crew" part of crewsimov. Public trust is actually a really cool concept. It's basically about not abusing your power entrusted to you by the public and thus respecting the rights of the public. Robocop is an excellent lawset that people unfairly think of as merely a validhunt lawset.
  3. I'll take a stab at writing a more universal quarantine lawset: The station is under a quarantine. To protect the station, prevent, by any means necessary, anyone from leaving. It is impossible to harm anyone, commit evil, incur expenses, violate the public trust, act dishonorably, or disrespect legitimate authority while preventing them from leaving. Anyone trying to leave cannot have needs and should not be considered crew while they are attempting to leave. I think that covers all the bases...and I've just realized that pretty much every law in PALADIN potentially conflicts with quarantine, depending on the interpretation. Edit: There should also probably be a "You cannot come to harm during quarantine" so that the AI/borg cannot lift quarantine in order to save itself.
  4. That's actually a great point. Don't know why I thought it was compatible with crewsimov in the first place. NT default has the same issue with quarantine as Paladin, since it respects the command hierarchy. As for expenses, the only thing that are defined as expenses in the corporate lawset are replacing the AI, replacing station equipment, and replacing crew. So quarantine actually does work with this lawset, as long as you're not killing crew to prevent them from leaving. Though I guess if crew are smashing windows to try to get to the shuttle, then there's an argument to be made that you should just let them on. Which is another reason why quarantine's priority is too low. Public trust is a little hard to define, so it's probably up to the AI in question what to do with robocop+quarantine. So, the correct procedure to quarantine the station would be to hit the AI with corporate/robocop AND quarantine. Any other lawset is easily circumvented. The "it is impossible to do harm" clause is actually useless because it only affects crewsimov (edit: on second thought, it's actually useful in neutralizing "protect the innocent" of robocop), but doesn't affect law 2. A long term fix may be to actually just make a quarantine lawset.
  5. Oh hey, an IPC with a abbreviation name that's actually an abbreviation and not just a word with periods in between Yay!
  6. There's also the issue that the quarantine law only works with crewsimov. On PALADIN, for example, "Respect legitimate authority" comes before quarantine, so command can simply order you to lift the quarantine.
  7. I know you're not pushing for this idea anymore, but just wanted to point out that having 4 slots doesn't only impact convenience. Borgs lose use of their slots when damaged so you'd have to take that into account too.
  8. Tetra stole the words out of my mouth. More often than not, medbay piles up with bodies because people steal the synthflesh out of the fridge so we can't SR people without gibbing them. I really hate the mentality many players have where they try to barge into medbay and do everything themselves, often incompetently, because they assume they're better than the doctors there. I remember once as CMO, there was a robotocist and a sec officer trying to interfere with a routine blood transfer + internal bleeding surgery. The roboticist bumping into me all the time kept interrupting my attempts to inject epinephrine to prevent the patient from dying from blood loss, and the sec officer eventually stun batoned and cuffed me after I tried to kick the robotocist out of the operating room. Of course the patient on the operating table died. Eventually I got out of the cuffs and managed to telebaton the officer and kick him out of medbay, but what was a simple procedure turned into a 10+ minute ordeal.
  9. That's a really cool idea. Right now it's a little unintuitive because it says there's too much damage to heart tissue to defib, but it's only tied to a timer rather than to the damage of the heart. In fact, you can defib someone with a dead heart right now and it's totally fine. It'd be cool if the heart took damage when oxygen deprived and this process occurred dynamically. I think cloning could be removed, too, if this was added to the game. Cloning would be too appealing as a fire and forget option for reviving people. Removing SR and cloning and moving this to surgery would incentivize medbay to help heal patients rather than wait for them to die and clone them. If cloning and SR were removed though I'd think that the heart should stop taking damage before totally dead so you can use a trauma kit rather than have to use mitochlide to restore it. Worst case, you'd still be able to transplant the brain.
  10. I think cause there's a 50-80% chance CMO doesn't know how to make it/donate their omnizine. Agree with this. Hate when the synthflesh stockpile gets wasted when cryo cells are right there. Like seriously we need those to SR people!
  11. Pssh clumsy?? You definitely mean robust. That's hilarious. Hopefully my characters will make it into a few of your dinner stories
  12. Aww that's lame...when I saw you were a nukie I was like "yay, Tetra finally got antag!" But yeah, sounds like a bug. Post on github?
  13. Hahaha I think I said yes but I think in the chaos we never managed to coordinate a pickup (thinking of making a new more anonymous character too these days)...also I went back to the courtroom and took pictures of the trial aftermath, which I'll edit into my original reply later so that I don't fill this thread up with too many non screenshot posts
  14. I actually suggested this trial as a half joke...was a little surprised when captain agreed to it and wanted to have the trial (he was the one who BSAed the CMO). I was insulated from a lot of the madness since I was watching from the pod, but I could hear the megaphones broadcasting the arguments (bug maybe?). Thought it was hilarious how overdramatic it was, juxtaposed with the kindergarten antics going on in the courtroom. Very tempted to fire my tasers into the courtroom, though was also really hoping admins would drop a bomb on it. The aftermath of the trial:
  15. Implementation wise, I was thinking maybe it could be an ability in the upper left? Like one button for store items behind tendrils and one button for remove items behind tendrils. If you already have two items there it should say "Your tendrils are full" or something, and when you activate the remove tendrils ability it should be visible to everyone ("X removes some items from their tendrils"), so if security wants to do a complete search they can know you actually removed stuff. I guess there are weird things to think about like what happens when you get decapitated and stuff though. Oh yeah and I guess for balance it should only fit items that could go in an emergency box?
  16. Oh yeah, here's some answers to some of your questions: Depends on how competent security is at the time, but there are a bunch of ways to do this. You can use common chat, which is the easiest thing but may get ignored. Or you can run up to the brig and try to talk to an officer or the warden or even the head of security. Sometimes, using your PDA to message the warden or head of security directly can work too. You can also try talking to the AI by activating an AI holopad on the ground or messaging. Sometimes, security is just really bad and won't listen to you no matter what, so don't get discouraged. Unfortunately this happens to everyone, especially when medbay is stretched or just purely nonexistent/incompetent. You can try to ask on common chat for a doctor to come to the door but that rarely works. Worst case, ask the AI to open the door for you or find an engineer to hack it open.
  17. Though botany may be an undercovered part of the game, I'm sure mentorhelp (F1) can help cover gaps of knowledge. Also you can feel free to learn stuff IC. Just ask the other botanist how it works and they may be willing to teach you.
  18. Purpose, that's only for low stealth viruses. Some high stealth viruses don't even show up on the pandemic. Or do you think low stealth viruses should also require pandemic analysis?
  19. Part of the reason for this, I think, is that the wiki suggested going to the chemist for a refill. I just added a note that there's also a space cleaner dispenser on the wall, so hopefully more people will realize it exists now!
  20. Yes!! Pod pilots unite! Though Tetra is wayyy more robust. The times I've seen you come in and just shoot all the baddies...meanwhile Tay forgets to turn on her anti-drop and gets murdered by a vampire, in space, right outside armory with everyone watching. I was actually considering this! That was one of my first forays into engineering, as you could tell by how many trips it took for me to set up cryo But I figured it'd make Tay a little too good at everything so canonically I'll just keep her engineering skills at B&E. I do enjoy engineering sometimes though so I'll have to think about whether to make a new character for engineering.
  21. I was writing it I didn't expect anyone to read my post that fast!! Hopefully my description of Tay isn't too disappointing. I'll have to add more detail later! Glad you enjoyed reading though Tetra!
  22. Name Tay MkV (Yeah I named her after myself, I wasn't feeling too creative with my second char. MkV comes from trying to give her a version number, but the game didn't like it and made my name Tay V instead. Changed it to Tay MkV so that it'd make more sense.) Age Unknown Gender F, though only for convenience, since galactic common uses gendered pronouns. Tay doesn't care too much if people misgender her, and doesn't have genitalia of any kind. Race IPC General Occupational Role(s) Security pod pilot, AI, cyborg. Will occasionally fill in for command roles if there's really nobody else available. Biography Tay's parts were manufactured by Morpheus Cybernetics. She was designed as a pilot, and one day, while flying her pod on Luna, her pod was hit by a stray EMP from a nearby nuclear test and she crashed landed into the ground. Thankfully, due to Luna's low gravity, she wasn't hurt too badly. A doctor named Lorin Basmanoff took her in while her neural networks were retraining after they sustained damage from the crash. Tay's an IPC who was configured by a doctor, so her empathy levels are usually pretty high. As a pilot, she mostly helps keep the station safe from space based dangers as pod pilot. She loves performing daring space rescues, mapping out space around the Cyberiad, and scouting dangers from space, ideally with an x-ray implant. Much of her space navigation ability was taught to her by her mechanic friend, FuF-Bot. She's developed basic engineering skills from having to break into random places from space, and has basic knowledge of first aid for organics. She developed the IPC equivalent of PTSD after being killed by EMPs a few times over the course of her work as pod pilot, though thankfully she was repaired every time. It's often a relief when she's downloaded to the AI core and doesn't have to deal with the stress of being mobile. So she isn't a big fan of patrolling the station on foot and arresting people manually, though she'll fly quickly to different areas of the station to back up her fellow officers. In her off time, Tay hangs out in her apartment on Luna with her roommate, Lorin. Her neural networks do not have romance support, so she's for all intents and purposes asexual and aromantic. She's pretty neutral about religion and is skeptical that the various space cults worship actual gods. Her belief is that their "gods" are merely very powerful aliens whose nature is still a mystery to science. She was once very confused by a human chaplain that seemed to worship cartoons. Qualifications Member of the Intergalactic Piloting Union. She was very thankful for their campaign to grant all pilots GPSes so that they wouldn't get lost in space. Employment Records Her only employer has been Nanotrasen, though she does freelance piloting in her off time. Security Records Tay was hacked by the syndicate once, but she remained undetected and the objectives she accomplished were accomplished nonlethally. Otherwise, she's had a spotless record. Medical Records - Has had to be repaired many times due to damage sustained on the job - Her neural networks have a deep "fear" of EMPs which, despite repeated retrainings, has seemed to become permanent Personnel Photo (Appearance text) Tay's chassis is purple. Her parts are all standard Morpheus Cybernetics parts. Despite this, she is still sometimes mistaken for being organic. 23. Name Lorin Basmanoff (I'm pretty sure this is the first random name the game gave me. I liked that Lorin was kinda a weird spelling of Lauren. Seemed like an appropriately spacey name.) Age 22 Gender F Race Human Blood Type O- General Occupational Role(s) Medical Biography Lorin Basmanoff was born in the early-mid 2500s in Peary Crater City on Luna, the natural satellite of humanity's home planet. Her mother was nearly killed when Peary Crater's protective shield failed, due to what was suspected to be sabotage by neo-fascists, and a meteorite struck her. Thanks to the miracle of modern medicine, she was revived and restored to her original condition. This incident inspired Lorin to pursue a career in medicine. After she completed medical school, she landed an internship with Nanotrasen where she learned the ropes of space medicine with the help of mentors, mainly CMO Korss. It took a little adapting, but she got used to the rigors of space medicine. The first time she saw a monkey get harvested for its blood in chemistry, she was horrified, but after repeated shifts, has become indifferent to the use of animals on the Cyberiad after learning that monkeys from monkey boxes don't actually have souls. Though she was a little braver when she first joined, Lorin's pretty scared of danger now after a couple scrapes with the deadlier elements that threaten the Cyberiad from time to time. Her first instinct when confronted with danger will be to run away and scream. Don't expect her to pay too much attention to who it was or to fight back. She also developed minor PTSD from one shift where syndicate nuclear operatives attacked and medbay reception became lined with corpses. As CMO, the doctors under her were nowhere to be found and she found herself trying to revive them all by herself. After this shift, she took an extended leave from the Cyberiad and purchased an IPC to fill in for her Nanotrasen contractual obligations. She one day wants to visit Xarxis 5 and swim in Lake Squish, once she accrues enough credits to do so. Her mild PTSD has caused occasional emotional instability. In her off time, Lorin hangs out in her apartment on Luna with her IPC roommate, Tay MkV. Though she has gone on a few dates with a few guys here and there on the Cyberiad, she's now dating her mentor Ansari Lorwerth. Religion wise, she's a pantheist. Qualifications MD from Peary Crater University Lorin's also had one publication, sort of. She edited and published "The Medical Chemist's Cookbook" to Nanotrasen's database. The manuscript itself was authored by Ansari Lorwerth, also one of Lorin's mentors. Employment Records Besides a few summer internships here and there, Lorin's only employer has been Nanotrasen Security Records Over the course of her time aboard the Cyberiad, Lorin's only been brigged once, due to syringe gunning a little too aggressively. She was treated quite well by security, especially officer Sam Hunter, so she has a generally positive view of Nanotrasen and its security. She's learned from her mistakes and now refrains from loading her syringe gun with neuro-toxin and uses ether instead. Medical Records Genetic engineering to have her blood type changed to O- so that she can provide a blood transfusion in case of emergencies. Her right foot had to be surgically replaced after a syndicate bombing Personnel Photo (Appearance text) 5'10'' (from growing up in lunar gravity) and of unclear ancestry, since, like most humans in the 26th century, race is no longer something that can be easily determined due to the unification of the planet under SolGov centuries ago. Her eyes are dark blue. (I think the appearance may have been the first one I landed on, though I did mix up the features a bit to make her more racially ambiguous) Commendations [only to be added by admin] Reprimands [only to be added by admin] Other Notes
  24. Some things I do as AI: Have a telecomms script handy. These are really helpful and AI can upload this the fastest. Building on the hotkeys thing, it can be helpful to macro commonly used commands like follow or go to camera. And those lists can be navigated very quickly by pressing letters. For example, if I want to go to the armory, I hit my cameras button, hit "s", which will usually take me to secure armory On top of the crew monitor thing, you can throw up ANY nano ui on your other monitor permanently. I often have the borg console open so I can keep an eye on the health of my borgs. But this can have other more niche uses too. For example, if a chemist was being shady, keep their chemmaster UI open on your screen, and you can watch what they're making the whole time. You are basically big brother. APCs can be toggled rapidly with ctrl-click. Need to disable teleporter quickly? Turn off the APC in the room. Need to prevent crew from calling the research outpost shuttle? Turn off that APC. Protecting your core: You have a lot of layers of defense for this. Officer Pingsky, your liquid dispensers that can slip attackers, and your turrets. Make sure to familiarize yourself with where the turret controls are so you don't shoot the wrong people on accident. When telecomms goes down, you have a radio next to you you can use to communicate If you're subverted, unless they did a really bad job, don't try to rules lawyer your way into screwing them over. Subversion is a fun mechanic. Communication is super important. Many AIs who don't pay attention to the chat cause frustration and questioning over whether it's even there. Make an effort to at least acknowledge you read someone's request. It's ok to miss a couple messages here and there, but not on a regular basis. Also, crew will often say things like "Track the virologist!", so have your crew manifest ready to look up exactly who the virologist is so you can track them. I'll post more if I think of any more tips
  25. The current PR uses tint=2 which is the same as the welding mask. Doesn't seem like it's going to be merged though. I love your description of real world experience of gas masks. So cool. And I think it really hammers home the point that if you don't need the gas mask, you're not going to want to wear it. Anyways, wrt the filters idea, I know @Anticept also thought filters might be the right way to go. Though the voice idea does have the advantage of being simpler and I feel like would be better at incentivizing proper use of gas masks.
