  1. Mother of God... this is fucking beautiful... also, the Vox's face, LOOK AT IT! IT'S SO CUTE!
  2. I totally may or may not use a morph suit in real life every halloween to dress up as Slade, and I may or may not have made a mask and hat for it. (Will support this.) EDIT: Who the hell doesn't wear pants underneath morph suits? That's friggin' weird...
  3. This is all cool, that's all I want to say, but I've been told to be verbose, sooo... This is very, super, amazingly, sorta of, kind of, somewhat, like, ultra, omega, supreme, magic-based, fighter type, level 1 warrior, sleeping carp style, ninja, clan based, chinese bootleg, shady, very very very very very very very very very very very very very very good, I mean holy crap, this is pretty alright in my eyes, mostly because i'm not incredibly enthusiastic about it, but it's ok, because in my eyes, this is really, just super alright with me, because it's cool, I guess, I mean, why not.
  4. BEHOLD NOSTALGIIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAA
  5. Arrivals hallway. The big purple machine across from the gateway/vault. Just before the doors to primary central hallway.
  6. actually A) can't husk over time anymore, fire doesn't husk you B) pretty sure changeling'ed people are cloneable by cloning machine Huh, when did we change the husking over time, and fire? Also, can the scanner actually scan people by default now without the upgraded parts it required before? EDIT:We do still have bodies rotting to the skeletal level given enough time, which prevents cloning, although I'm not sure if it acts similarly to a husk.
  7. The way you described the objectives, I could only think of this. http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/ ... range_mood EDIT:It's also really damn cool.
  8. The main issue is, everything in the game that deals with player death(few things aside)) is built upon the function of cloning as it stands. I believe that the heart of the complaints is mostly based around the relative ease of negating death quickly, with little additional work, not necessarily cloning itself. Cloning, as stated over and over again in this thread, is one of the least efficient, if not the least efficient method of resurrection aside from defibbing a guy who has a million internal infections and all of his bones busted in. Be aware that antags are also given certain properties to benefit their health and at times, complete regeneration with little to no downsides besides time, changeling regeneration, traitor adrenaline/stimulant packs(Keep you up for a very long time, very hard to kill), wizard lichdom, shadowling darkness healing, cultists are able to revive other cultists as well as churn out tons of ghosts (Yes, I know it costs damage depending on length active), Vox healing needle gun, Nukeops medical beam gun, healing holoparasites, so on. This is in addition to the ways antags are able to completely prevent cloning, decapitation and spacing of the head/body, acid melting remaining organs, cult gibbing, disintegration gibbing, traitor explosive implants(has a gib option upon injection), throwing the brain of your target into the disposals trash compactor(Haven't tested it recently, but has worked on multiple occasions in the past, be the brain positronic or organic), cult soulstones, changleing absorption husking (requires advanced scanner or lengthy surgery), husking over time or due to fire effects(same as previous), spacing(works most of the time), most explosives, point blank ballistic shots(to the head), cooking a brain burger or brain cake(yes, I'm aware you need to cook it), staves of transformation followed up by damage spells(Simple mobs can't be cloned[but they can be lazarus injector-ed!]), singularities, cremation, etc. I'm just not sure that the main problem you have is with cloning itself, which is why I'm incredibly defensive of the way it currently is, because game balance in terms of lethality often times involves what it takes to restore the individual affected, if they can be restored at all.
  9. As stated above, we did have a period where you were unable to remember, then we had period in which you were able to. No CMD has worked out for the better in most cases, and netted us more players than we would have had with CMD heavily enforced. From an administrative and player standpoint, the hassle of enforcement coupled with the complete inability to prevent continual death (without violating CMD), would prove to be incredibly frustrating over time, especially since I, as an admin, wouldn't feel comfortable forcing people to roleplay a certain way in a certain circumstance, where I've never had to do anything like that in two full years. It just wouldn't feel right.
  10. This would make more sense than merging it with a civilian role.
  11. As my previous question was obviously ridiculous, Dinarzad has clarified and given points that I think are valid criticisms, so I'll stand by them. That's why it's a suggestions forum. If I had that sort of thing just on hand, It'd be a PR instead. My previous question wasn't about if you had the resources, but more if you had a plan to get them. What kind of style did you want, how would you balance it, where on the map would you add it, what do you think it would take codewise, and how would the functions of the new system compare to the previous system of cloning? They were questions aimed at what you, as the person making the suggestion, thought about how this should work out to fit your idea, not a question of "Do you have this on hand or the ability to do all of this yourself without help?"
  12. This sounds cool, but how about the art assets, the code, the mapping, the balancing, and basically replacing the entire functionality of the current cloning with the new system?
  13. "What do you mean I look suspicious? I'm just scavenging here!" "Oh, the blood? Nothing really, just for show." EDIT: Got bored and made a wallpaper.
  14. Ah, rehumanization, try magic instead of wackjob German scientists, it might work out smoother! Of course there are other alternatives, if you decide to work for shadier organizations, I guess.
  15. In terms of your suggestions for leaving the brain after extraction from a corpse lifeless, I'm not entirely certain how that would work, mainly because the body procs death, then the brain pops out, at least from what it seems, otherwise, removing the ability for a dead player who has had their brain extracted from ever returning to the round, or in general, somebody who died being unfixable unless caught relatively quickly is definitely going to be a huge turn off for a number of people. Be aware, while this probably would stimulate more RP in the sense of self-preservation, it would only stimulate RP for the people who would actively enjoy that type of RP, otherwise, the new functionality or outright removal might cause people to flat out leave the server. In addition, a lack of cloning would likely lead to a much more blatant traitor if they have the death objective and a much more reserved traitor with anything else, especially with our current treatment of antagonists and how they can complete their objectives (not to mention the validhunter culture that, while bannable, is nowhere near gone). Removal of the ability for brains to be removed from corpses would force revival via defib to be a rush for time, and that's without the plans you have for nerfing that element as well due to pre-existing corpse and organ rot. If medbay isn't at its peak at all times, chances are, anybody who suffers lethal damage is going to stay dead for an entire round, with the other changes mentioned, not specifically the original topic of simply removing cloning. This would cut living pop down severely over a round, as well as cause things to become increasingly sluggish over time due to the rising body count from the common lethal hazards (Shocks, hostile mobs, hostile players, accidents, explosions, infections, viruses, space exposure, poisons, etc.), at least without constant medical vigilance. In general, keeping players out of the round is going to keep more players leaving the game or generally being more bored than they already would be in deadchat, even with the ability to alt tab, watch a video, or do something else. Keeping the game moving is an incredibly important part, especially the speed at which it moves, and I personally believe that this would cause the game to move too slowly, causing players to leave the current rounds or slow production drastically due to lack of taking risks, or flat out leaving the server due to a confliction of playstyles.
  16. Now that I have another quick second to write, I'd also like to point out that, if cloning is removed, the more competent doctors will just use a UI UE and a monkey, then transfer the brain and defib the recently deceased monkey, which completely negates the cloning process altogether already. So if you'd like to strip out all things equivalent to cloning, you'd need to pretty much remove genetics, at least the more useful parts of it. There are always ways around it, even with increased requirements. (Do note that I am an advocate for simply leaving cloning be, no changes.) Also, quick note, but keeping players out of the game for longer is a fairly bad plan, especially to keep things moving, a good traitor can already keep a deceased player from returning via use of chemicals, engines, spacing, genetics, disfigurements, dismemberment, and otherwise common methods for a traitor (most recently witnessed a round in which a QM was spaced, suit sensors toggled off, nobody could find them for two hours. They were actually found and cloned later on, but still, two hours of being completely and totally lost.)
  17. I agree with most of the points here, but I have a feeling that making cloning more difficult is not going to change all that much, as those experienced with medbay and chem will find ways to make the increased necessities easy to achieve in mass.
  18. So, I thought it'd be about time to throw out this idea. I've got summer ahead of me, and so that means I have a lot of time to go through the painful, yet joyous land of spriting. I'll take a few requests, sprite the ones I think would be the most interesting, be as specific or as vague as you like. Currently I'm working on a new Necrius Cybernetics manufacturer, themed around the sp00ky skeletons we have. All of these will come with their own monitor version as well as a standard head, human head formats can be requested, but won't be added by default (Mostly because I personally don't see many of the human heads fitting themed sets as much as the previously created ones.) Sample Necrius Images Necrius Skelehead (including lit eyes) Necrius Monitor (BSOD) If you have any ideas that I don't get around to or end up taking too long on, I'm a horribly lazy individual if unmotivated. If you end up deciding you'd rather sprite it yourself, I can give some pointers on how to make your IPC spriting easier (Especially on human_face.dmi, that's nothing but pain!)
  19. Screw making holes, phasing THROUGH the wall is better than breaking it.
  20. I'm horribly against this, mainly because we have nothing currently in place that could reasonably adjust the majority of players to dealing with this new system without heads turning, armageddon occuring, and the heads of everybody involved on spikes. That and I disagree with the principle behind it due to it being a relatively unnecessary thing.
  21. No need to restrict it to any particular race really, if you want E cigarettes, just have them a resprited kind of version, mostly because organics don't really have a readily available substitute unless botany gets off its ass.
