  1. (Please ignore the code issues on the pictures they will/are already solved) The Idea. My end goal is to add a new method of punishment which securiy officers can use when dealing with criminals who may have comitted a minor crime and thus not really worth dragging them to the brig for 5 minutes. As well as adding a new tool that can be used for roleplay purposes between perpetrator and offficer. Often as a security officer when the tide is high or there's just so much going on that it is not effecient for you or the perpetrator that you drag their ass to the gulag. This project is a tool which will allow users to punish these criminals without brigging them? How By giving them a fine. How does it work? The tool itself is a handheld ticketing platform which can be carried in your pocket or in your backpack. Opon activation security officers can either choose to issue a new ticket or view existing ones. In order to prevent the good old fashioned stun, cuff and drag security officers will need to interact with the suspect as they have to swipe the suspects ID in order to load their details into the device. Security Officers can then select the violation from a pre-existing list which will display the reason, description of the article violated and the ticket amount. Officers will after selecting the reason be prompted to input an amount between a maximum amount and a minimum amount allowing for some variation in the ticket itself. After everything is filled out, they can then hit "Issue Ticket" which will print a ticket at the mobile ticketing platform. Deduct money from the registered account and transfer it to the station account(will be changed to securiy department account) and also add the ticket to the list of issued tickets. This list can be viewed on the terminal itself or by hitting the "Browse" Issued Tickets on the security record computer. So let me hear your toughts and ideas. Is this something that should be aborted? Or should I continue working on it? Do you have any ideas features to add to it etc. Questions I need answered. First of all there are still a few things I would like to discuss. Should there be a refund option on the security record computer? Is this worth it? What should the fine amounts be?(currently you can only ticket for minor crimes) Should it be able to deduct money from people who doesn't have any? New sprite?

  2. I've tried fixing up the White Ship - I got it working, I placed a bunch of cameras, and I even got the RD to make an AI! So sad the shift got cut short by a loose tesla, we were so close to make it useful.

  3. I actually managed to become one last night, starting from civilian. I tried to get transferred into xenobio but it was a no go, so got transferred into chem. In the interest of not blowing up the area on accident I steered clear of actually attempting chem and focused on my shadowy objective. After about 5 minutes of a Diona giving us new guys hell, we were escorted / darted into xenobio with said Diona (who was a bit perturbed) I asked very nicely for a green slime extract. Head back to Chem and remove the lights. Add plasma, extract, inject. Yey! Wait... My hunger is in the red... Oh damn... How am I gonna make it to the kitchen?!?! Well. Long story short I managed to remove the lights and get out to the general hallway, and stand in a dark corner saying OW if people came too close. Most seemed pretty ok about not igniting me. As i'm contemplating which lights to move rapidly to and remove next, a sec guard comes over and checks out the shadowy corner. While taken aback at first, they were incredibly kind. Turned off their lighting, and helped me acquire food (2 cups of Ramen better than nothing at RED hunger) they offered to help me get more by dragging me in a closet, which seemed very kind at the time. Apparently along our journey he got a call to report to arrivals. We end up in disposals main, where an officer is getting murderlated by a cultist with robes and a sword. Sec officer jumps to action, and I spring from the box and grab the culty things and dive back into my box. You know to keep them from getting them back. In security's haste to deal with the cultist i was left in disposals maint with my box and a cultsword of no worth to me as I was not culted. I did however have the chaps holy sword from earlier, due to him trying to murderbone the paramadic randomly. Figured it would be safer with me, and I was very lucky I had it with me. I yell out over coms that they left me there, and theres a cult sword I'm guarding for them. Enter Cult. They obviously don't like reading that. Suddenly I've got a cultist with me in disposals maint, they try to rock my work with a temperature gun, but I'm hard to see and heal rapidly in the dark. I manage to icepick em with a water tank, and Juke around to start attacking with the chaplain sword. I felt a little bad, but lord knows their Firegod wasn't going to keep it dark for me and it seemed like a life and death moment. I manage to chase them out with some heavy damage, and even take their temperature gun. At this point I'm begging my sec friend to come back and take this cult gear / temp gun / drag me the hell away from this place. Enter the Slith. Sec buddy shows up and we stare around the darkened disposals maint a bit and decide to head the hell out asap. Just as we decide to a wild Slith appeared. With sword and madness. he flashed me good, and got the drop on sec buddy. I managed to hit em with the icy beam once before he lit me up with his blade. Two good hits and I was down in a hard crit. Then slowly crispifying in the lights. Just before I died from photon exposure I was sharded. You know the rest after that. But I'm proud to say I managed to play a shadowguy and not get light lynched by the crew.

  4. Yar, it be that time again. Here's some more casual Skrell outfits with Cali and Zeke. who says your casual look can't be fancy Ever thought what Zeke would be like in a fighting game? Probably not, but don't worry, I'll show you anyways. Shoot characters with your Double barrel shotgun or take the time to make up a Molotov cocktail and throw it. If another play comes up too close, throw them over the closes table, use one of your many Bottles and smash it over their head, or use your quick abilities to Mix drinks and splash it into their face to throw them off. Getting close to winning? Use your finishing move by calling for your trusted blue space corgi named Sax. The struggle Weird Kinks? Zeke shouldn't be allowed to pick what they wear for a costume party? Is this just a weird dream? *flails arms in the air!* who knows!!

  5. What is the class that rarely gets picked? We all know it. It's the internal affairs. It is basically like playing a Civilian with Security access. Why? Because IAAs have basically no power. The way they're described in the Wiki is closer to a possible workhorse of the Head of Personnel, but they have really limited access to the station even though they're supposed to look after the crew. Nobody really goes to the IAA either because people know that because of the limited power that this position has - it's entirely pointless instead the more reasonable thing to do would be to go to the Head of Personnel. This is also what I heard when I had a dispute with another person "Go to the HoP if you disagree." Unfair demotions, departments not doing their jobs, ect. are so very common in Paradise Station but still nobody really thinks twice of contacting the IAA because the IAA is a useless position. Because they have no access it means that they can't really look into disputes either and lead investigations, because they're situated so far away from HoP it means that even if they find people who are mismanaging their jobs - they still can't really do anything about it. You'd have to badger the departments for maybe a guest pass, but even that is so rare to get. If they have to go with the often overburdened HoP with all manner of problems (and HoP rarely ever use the IAAs to investigate either). That is why I think that the IAA needs to have powers more similar to those of the Head of Personnel. They need at least basic access to all departments so he can get inside and he also needs to have the power to at least suspend a person from their job (such as maybe a timed ID lock?). I also don't see the reason to merge titles such as Lawyer or Public Defender with this title, yes - lawyers look into civil disputes as well but lawyers operate from the law where breaking it can have serious and profound consequences. In SS13 Paradise Civil disputes are rarely more than a minor crime and might suffer a person what... 10 minute brig time? Real world laws are also large, complex and actually cover civil disputes. If you look in the wiki there is very, very little work having been put into the matters of proper procedures within the departments and there is basically nothing about civil disputes in Space Law. Also since most rounds cover around 2 hours or less - it means that IAAs don't have the time to make as large and comprehensive investigations of disputes of the departments as their job description demands. That is why I suggest these changes to the IAA: He gets the ability to suspend an ID for any person that isn't part of command for up to 10 minutes, but not to demote anybody. He has basic access to all departments, but maybe not the wings (he might be able to walk into science but not into Robotics, walk into medical but not surgery, walk into cargo and mining, ect). This would mean that he actually has the ability to reach and establish contact with the personnel aboard instead of having to rely on people having the initiative to contact him (why would they - when HoP is a better choice?) The IAAs' superior are the Head of Personnel and their office should eventually be moved closer to HoP so they and HoP can actually establish contact and actually do their jobs with some semblance of effectiveness. I think this would still make him somewhat weaksauce but it would definitely allow him to actually do his job instead of forcing him to be some random guy with a briefcase and sunglasses.

  6. I always tell criminals to contact IAA of they think SOP is being breached or they are being treated unfairly.

  7. I'll throw in my two bits as a long time IAA player. It's weird to think about, but the IAA really is an underling of the HoP. While the IAA is supposed to answer to the magistrate, the IAA also benefits from having solid connections with the NTR, HoP, and Captain. The NTR, because the NTR is meant to focus on SOP and make sure that the station is running according to NT's standards, which falls under the IAA's duties. HoP, because the HoP manages demotions, and it's good to have a connection with the HoP for when someone needs to be demoted. Captain, because the captain can authorize a demotion for anyone, and the captain is typically one of the last people to contact before contacting CC. The connections the IAA should be making with command are usually neutered by the IAA's strong connection with the Magistrate/SL. A very large majority of the community underestimates how long it takes to write a solid report, move it through the proper channels, then have it enforced by those in power. Enforcing/seeing an output from a single report can take anywhere from ten minutes to more than half an hour. I don't know about suspending IDs. Perhaps if the IAA can cite a reason as to why, then yes, but there's too many shitty IAAs and very little ways to screen for shittiness, aside from reactionary measures like banning IAAs for abusing what very, very little power they have. It's a good idea, and something that could be very powerful in the hands of responsible IAAs, but I would rather have that power be available for the HoP/Captain. From an IAA's perspective, I support basic access. Any agents abusing that access to steal shit from departments will very quickly get banned, considering how important the role is from an OOC standpoint (A frequent response to adminhelps is, "It's an IC problem". If the IC channels for solving such a problem are blocked by greytiding IAAs, it completely defeats the point of the system). Having basic access would benefit proactive agents, and would encourage agents to leave the office and actually go looking for work to do. That's not to say that agents should be sticking their noses in every damn department and every minor dispute, but a good agent knows how much effort to put into a case, and when to step back and not bother. On the other hand, even security doesn't get basic access for all departments. Security has all the reason to have this access, but it's limited to only the HoS. I personally don't think this makes sense from an IC perspective, but it's the admin's choice, and there's not going to be any change to this unless they come together and agree on the change. It's clear that community opinion makes little difference in this regard. However, giving basic all access always presents an inherent risk, for very obvious reasons. Imagine if the clown had basic all access... As for the IAA becoming a direct underling of the HoP... As I said before, the IAA is more like a foster child, who gets bumped around from parent to parent. I used to support having the IAA be under the joint control of the magistrate and NTR, but now I think the IAA really doesn't need an overseer. If there's a concern for the IAA abusing their power, the captain/NTR/HoS could approve their dismissal, depending on the infraction. In short, IAA IMBA, volvo rito blizzard admins plz

  8. Quite a few years ago, there used to be riot grenade launchers in the brig armoury, next to the riot suits and shields - these could be loaded with standard flashbangs and teargas 'nades as necessary, and launched grenades still had a slight delay before detonating. I had quite a few good rounds using it against blobs in particular, and I'd love to see it back in the game. For bonus points, let traitors steal it and load it with more sinister ammunition such as minibombs or IEDs. As for general utilities, I'd like to see a prisoner implant management console placed at the dispatcher's front desk - officers already should have access to one near the labourcamp dock, but the majority of sec players are not aware of it. I'd like to see one or two extra security biohazard suits added to that one locker in the armoury. They hardly receive any use, but they're very handy if medbay needs security present during a major disease outbreak. On the topic of safety suits, I'd like to see one or two security softsuits added to the armoury - they wouldn't need to be as protective as Sec Hardsuits, but they'd allow sec to respond more effectively to atmos flooding or mass-depressurization. This would be especially useful for Nuke Op rounds, where vast swathes of the station usually end up getting vented due to stray bullets shattering windows or explosive implants poking holes in the floor. This might not be useful, balanced or necessary, but I'd like to see some throwable spike-strips in the armoury, too. As with the real-world counterpart, rolled-up spike strips could be thrown into the path of a vehicle, snapping open into a vehicle trap that tangles itself into the undercarriage of any vehicle that drives/walks over it, dramatically reducing their speed, or perhaps stalling them entirely until the pilot jumps out to remove the spike strip by hand. Syndicate mechs like the Gygax and Marauder often prove incredibly resilient to the ion rifle, plus the ion rifle is often never where it needs to be when it's needed. These spike strips would ideally be too bulky for a backpack, so they would only be deployed when the specific situation calls for it. I'd like to see a return of the handheld sec hailers. The basic "Halt, security!" noise isn't particularly intimidating, but it was a good way of grabbing someone's attention without needing to carry around the full sec gasmask. On that note, a greater variety of underbarrel mount items would be great. As an alternative to a flashlight, I'd like to be able to mount hailers and/or Compli-O-Nators as underbarrel mounts for sec weapons. This idea was shot down once a long time ago, but as long as we're discussing extra sec items, I'd like to hear opinions about adding a 'hannibal lecter' anti-bite mask, alongside the straightjacket in the brig: for the full effect when an antag in the brig has proven themselves dangerous enough to warrant rollerbedding, straighjacketing, handcuffing, legcuffing, and electropack-mounted before they can be safely moved around the station. This would also mesh with our new restrictions around executions, as I suspect security will be required to handle and contain more 'innately' dangerous antags without outright slaughtering them on the spot. While I'm on the topic of electropacks - if the brig didn't get their electropack back, I'd like one added somewhere near the execution/infirmary area, just for the odd situation where a criminal needs their hands free for something, but they're not trustworthy enough to just be uncuffed without a backup measure (mimes that are requesting to write something down come to mind, here). This might require a bit of snowflake code, but the detective's dromedary co. cigarettes should count as a mask for the purposes of whether or not someone gets nauseous by being near to a rotting body. I envision this would enable the hard-boiled detective cliche, where the detective is so grim and desensitized that they are completely unfazed by smells or sights that would cause most others to vomit with revulsion. On the note, if the detective had access to a sterilized white crimescene hazsuit that never left tracks in wet blood and never left clothing fibres, that would be an interesting way of further specializing the detective's role, so that they can't be fully replaced by any officer with a forensic scanner. For bonus !!FUN!!, make the crimescene jumpsuit storable in a backpack, so that traitors or other antags have a reason to steal it.

  9. I'd say the thing that makes security most unenjoyable is the troll players who get off on doing everything in thier power up to and including getting banned to make security miserable. Not really sure you can fix this by adding equipment. Tranquilizer gun? A purfeudicecalin patch dispenser to mute them? Sleep grenades? Make it so the cells dispense sleeping gas instead of having a flash? Some sort of a way to remove cuffs from them without them attempting to beat the hell out of me or disarm spam me? Maybe just something that works faster than putting them in the sleeper and feeding them Ether to put them out. Even then they'll still complain to an admin even if you did everything properly just to get you bwoinked and waste your time. Best way to deal with all that is to not let it get to you, and if it is bothering you, sure as hell don't show them. Easiest way I shut up chucklefucks is by having fun with them and not getting annoyed. As soon as they know they are actually entertaining you and not making you miserable, they usually go SSD. Most importantly, IC I reward good behavior and cooperation with reduced sentences or even no sentence and just a warning, and "reward" the opposite with maximum sentences while letting them know how much less of a sentence they could have gotten If they weren't an asshole.

  10. Name: Krichahka Age: 26? Gender: Male? Race: Vox Blood Type: A+ General Occupational Role(s): Engineer, Surgeon, Chemist Biography: Made to be an engineer and scavenger to patch newly acquired ships to Arkship's shroud, which role he served for several generations. By a quirk, or perhaps upon his cortical stack being dropped too many times, his current generation focused more on making the shroud more aesthetic, which resulted in deconstructing many of the components and modules bolted to it that he would say 'Doesn't fit there / Doesn't look good there'. To keep him away from dissassembling the arkship, he was tasked with acquiring and salvaging materials with raiding parties. He was reported to have been looting trading ships of Sol origin, yet according to the reports, casaulties of the crew were minimal as they were allowed to leave via escape pods. During a botched raid on a Nanotrasen installation where they attempted to steal a shipment of plasma, allegedly he destroyed the stash, along with half the station, and some of it's crew as he allegedly ignited it. He was captured and was offered a deal of working off the damages he caused in the service of NT, which he was forced to agree to. His old habits of building and re-designing areas remained and was put in use as he is often tasked with engineering duties. His assimilation to the crew is rather a mixed bag: he is rather friendly and helpful to crew, and buckles easily under authority figures, and follows a sort of code he calls 'The Inviolate' but tends to be cowardly and rather run away unless the threat would make escape impossible. On the other hand, he has 'sticky fingers' and things tend to 'disappear' around him; furthermore, he is extremely protective of other vox, and it might override his peaceful and friendly personality if they get in trouble. After several years of service and good behaviour, he was allowed to have one of his personal possessions back: a battered radio backpack (Voxcaster) of Sol origin with the words "Swift-Talon" scratched into it. It appears to be not functioning, as it seems he dismantled the radio of it's components and seem to use it as storage space. Security Records: -Robbery and arson on NT Station [REDACTED] via causing a plasma-fire. Minor incidents: -Theft of gold, plasma, and other valuables he deemed 'shiny', and using it in his personal construction projects. -Assaulted a crewmember after the victim called him "Swift-Talon". Charges were dropped due to 'cultural misunderstanding'. Medical Records: -Prone to use illegal substances, and is fond of 'fliptonium'.

  12. Then why have a borg? Borgs ALWAYS have absurd powers. This is downplayed by the fact that they are borgs and are very specialized to be good at what they do. Don't try to robust a combat borg. EMP the shit out of them from a distance. Or just run away and weld a door.

  13. That's ultimately a balance issue, in theory, one would not be able to acquire everything simply because there's only so much blood you could acquire in two hours, That being said, the idea is that you would only be limited by how crafty you are. For balance reasons however, static increases in package cost should probably be implemented after x number of purchases.

  16. We really can't get behind a campaign started the way you did there. If anything I'd prefer cross server fundraising for byond for specific coding goals than to start out with a passive aggressive approach communicated via prs and reddit posts. The idea of punishing lummox seems risky, and a bit mean. We don't know his or byonds finances or situations, and reducing the income could result in less time being dedicated to it.

  17. I mean, having to kill your IC friend/wife/husband/ex is /great/ for RP. Because you can interact and not do it wordlessly. Make up some context. "You know how I said I sorted the money problems we had? Yeah it isn't handled and They want me to do this..." blah blah. Sometimes having an established character do criminal things is good.
