Can't believe I never thought to share this one: Rivera's apartment bedroom, before she moved into a larger house. (Drawn about April 14th, 2021)
I'd love to do more of these, they make great practice and are actually fantastic for character building. Maybe another for the house she lives in after her apartment?

(Also, this was 100% inspired by the drawing Heather did of Chikitita's apartment.)

Finally sitting down and making a bio for Rivera. She has an official Nanotrasen Crew Record as well. This is more personal.

Personality:

Rivera has a calm and cool demeanor, and many would consider her level-headed and rational. She has a fair level of confidence about the way she carries herself, and her actions often border on being outright smug. It's hard to make her genuinely angry or upset. When she is, she usually tries to hide it, as she hates the thought of being vulnerable.

Despite her overall personality, Rivera has a tendency to be more reckless when she isn't feeling well, and secretly has a low self-image. She will often throw herself into danger with little to no regard for her own self-preservation or safety. She cares for others around her much more than herself, and may come off as hypocritical when criticizing someone for doing something she wouldn't think twice about doing herself.

A woman in her early 40s, Rivera stands at about 5'2" (~157cm). Her skin is brown with warm undertones, and and she has messy, wavy dark brunette hair, fading into a lighter brown at the ends. Her hair usually covers her right eye.

Her eyes are cybernetic, with glowing blue irises against stark black sclera. Her left arm is also cybernetic up to her shoulder, and it is accented with blue rings along the metal.

She looks like she may be a bit tired.

History:

Born to Muriel Kirkland on Nanotrasen's NXV Eclipse (considered by many to be the predecessor to the NXV Luna) as a result of bad timing (as well as outright negligence on Muriel's part). Though not ideal, those in charge of the ship found the situation so amusing that the newly-born Rivera was given a medal emblazoned with the Nanotrasen logo and a "Certificate of Guaranteed Employment".

Rivera grew up alone with her mother, who acted more like a teacher than a mom (and even calling her a teacher was pushing it). Her father is unknown, and Rivera had figured out quickly that her mother would not entertain the topic. Rivera was treated more like an unpaid intern and assistant rather than a child. Muriel was smart, though, and Rivera learned a lot from her and quickly gained an interest in various fields of science. She constantly sought out ways to impress her mother, and though she was never given anything more than backhanded comments at best, Rivera ended up with large amounts of motivation that carried her to the top of her class in high school, earning her several scholarship offers.

Ultimately, she decided to attend the Lunar Academy of Research and Technology. Just after arriving and before classes begun, she was informed of her mother's death. Unsure of how to cope with the loss of her mom and the conflicting feelings she felt following, she poured herself into her schoolwork and once again found herself top of her classes, working herself ragged. She graduated at age 21 among the top students at the academy with a degree specializing in genetics.

At age 25, Rivera disappeared without a trace. Kidnapped by the Syndicate, Rivera was used as a means to test an early and experimental version of the mindslave implant, and turned into an assassin for the gain of the Syndicate. Often assigned to Syndicate Infiltration Teams, the results were deemed very positive, though the mindslave implant needed very frequent maintenance.

Rivera was never caught while under Syndicate control, and she has successfully taken out every target except for one: Tidal Kirkland. After Tide had escaped, the device began to fail and she pushed herself to flee from the Syndicate. Though she escaped through a series of close calls and luck, she did not escape from the organization unscathed.

She reappeared 16 years after her initial disappearance, found bleeding out on an abandoned building settled in a meteor with no eyes and missing her entire left arm. Rivera was lucky to have been found quickly by a random pod pilot who retrieved her body and sought out medical attention. Cybernetics have since replaced the missing body parts, and the strange Syndicate device was removed from her body.

Though she was severely questioned, she has no recollection of the time during her disappearance. Due to this, she was involved in many neurological studies that became a somewhat well-known news story to those. This leads to people bringing it up around her on occasion, much to her annoyance and frustration. The studies payed fairly decently though, and her bank accounts have more way more credits than she knows what to do with, so she can't complain.

Shortly after her reappearance, she came across three young adults who had fled from the Syndicate presence pursuing them on Earth to the moon, including Tidal. In an attempt to keep them as safe as possible while also grappling with feelings of guilt, Rivera watched over the three of them and payed for them to stay in an extended-stay hotel. After gaining trust in her, the three opted to move into the spare rooms of her apartment, and she considers the three of them family.

After having what little belongings she had returned to her once investigation surrounding her disappearance was formally considered closed, she found the certificate granted to her as an infant tucked away at the bottom of a box. She considered it silly, but approached Nanotrasen about a job and after some confusion over the document, she gains employment as a geneticist. Rivera works infrequently as she doesn't need the money; mostly using it as an excuse to leave her home.

At some point, she meets both Angel and Idunn and the three start dating. By now, Rivera is trying to make piece with what has become of her life.

So, hi! I avoided making one of these for a while since I didn't think anyone would even know who I was, but at this point I hang around so often I feel like one of these things is finally warranted. I still have plenty to learn about this game and there's still several moments where I feel like I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm glad to be a part of a community who seems overall receptive to teaching and helping!

My name's Skyler, most people just call me Skye though. My most frequent character at the moment is Rivera Kirkland, but I also play many others like Tidal Kirkland, Luke Rosensteel, Lace Masuno, Sybil Swords and C.I.T.R.U.S.. I mainly play genetics, but I try to do an actual decent job of it; I've heard a lot of horror stories unfortunately.

I also draw a lot. You may or may not have seen my art around, even before I became super active again because Chikitita's player is one of my best friends so I draw Chiki a lot. I hear my art gets around, apparently?

Anyway, it's fun to be back! Thanks for havin' me here in paradise.

Looks like the librarian is hosting a photoshoot in the library to create a scrapbook for Pride Month! Stop by if you'd like to have your photo taken for Nanotrasen's UNOFFICIAL Pride Scrapbook, or if you'd simply like to watch and wait for the inevitable chaos once the station falls apart.

I'm a bit late, but in honor of pride month: I thought it'd be nice to make a place where everyone can show off their characters for Pride!

I'll start off by sharing one of my own characters, Rivera Kirkland. :D Since she's a geneticist and constantly looking for mutations, I had her hold up the lesbian flag with telekinesis, haha. The other flags are the polyamory flag (bandana), the trans flag (bracelet), and the flag she's holding is an idea I got from some pride art @SlimeBird did with Chikitita: the Nanotrasen Corporate Pride flag.

If anyone else has Pride-related character art to show, I'd love to see it! :D

Another post, this time focusing a bunch on my character Tidal!

Here's her takin' a power nap on a bus with her sister Lace.

 

Here's a small thing I had done of her hiding in Angel's ( @punkalope's character) absolute mass of hair. Tide's not usually the shy type, but they are still a teenager and get intimidated easily.

 

Aaaand one more, full of a bunch of doodles! This gives a brief look into their backstory, since Tidal's childhood was... a bit of an odd case! They were raised by a (now deceased) diona, and he's the reason she was inspired to try and learn medical at such a young age.
(In character, I like to believe her connection to Idunn helps her get a foot in the door to achieving this so early on.)

Thank you all for the kind words about my art ahhhh! I'm a bit shy so I haven't been responding directly to them all, but just know that each of them means the world to me ; ___ ;

Today I thought I'd post something other than humans for once, lol. Here's one of my less played characters: Luke Rosensteel! He's a random vulpkanin I had been assigned for the animal clinic mob spawner, and I grew very attached to him, so I made him an actual player character for future shifts. He had miners in and out since he was so close to the base, and was eventually brought on board and given shaft miner permissions and welcomed by the mining crew. He took his two pet shrimp with him and now he has taken a particular interest in shaft mining as a job.

The shrimp are named Scapi (pink, and no that's not a typo) and Gallagher (blue). He loves them very much.

God damn, kudos to @MrSynnester for an amazing round where Idunn (and eventually Rivera) were being haunted by a demonic voice! I sorta interpreted it as a ghostly Shesi hanging around Rivera being all scary and sinister. Mostly just a doodle, but hell if I wasn't going to draw at least something after all that.

Also... awkwardly-drawn hands aside, god. I'm really pleased with how I made the second Rivera look like a puffed up cat. It wasn't completely intentional but damn is it fitting.

Today I bring forth... character IDs! Arranged in the order I finished them in, with Rivera being the first (April 26th) and Lace being the most recent (today, May 30th).

Made this small little template myself for some of my characters. Nothing fancy, but I tried to emulate the in-game sprite itself for it, and I'm generally pretty pleased with how it looks. (Side note: I like to imagine certain things like blood type are on the back. Maybe I'll design a template for the backside at some point...?)

Biography:
