  1. When will your commissions be open so I can throw my money at you for wonderful art?
  2. They start with this access because its entirely relevant to their job of managing their departments. They're also not out and about running everywhere, including maintenance, which janitors are prone to do. Once again, entirely relevant for their job and the argument that someone will let you into Medbay if you wait by the door can also apply to the Janitor's increased access. Why give him such if he'll get in anyway to clean? A janitor can still clean the station starting without the access outlined above, whereas if these individuals didn't have the access they currently do it would make it nigh impossible for them to do their jobs.
  3. There's also another problem with having the Janitor starting with increased access which is they'll essentially become a target for traitors to gain easy access to those areas if they don't have access and don't want to emag their way in and immediately get fingered as one. Just get the janitor alone, take him out, grab his ID, you now have access to every section of Medbay except the Chemistry Lab. Not only could they assassinate a target easily or sabotage cloning of their targets, they could hinder Medbay greatly just stealing the surgery tools from the ORs. It'll give them easy access to the gibber in the kitchen where they could gib a victim and well, make it extremely difficult to bring them back. I think the possible issues with Janitor starting with increased access, even just those areas, far outweighs the benefits of removing a mild inconvenience of just heading over to the HoP's line and asking for increased access which would leave a paper trail of some kind, if not physical then at least verbal, so if the Janitor's ID somehow gets in the hands of an Antagonist they'd have some idea about it.
  4. After pulsing the Test/Main Power wire of a door, if you snip it with wire cutters and mend it immediately after it'll reset regardless if the back-up power has kicked in or not allowing for a quick secondary pulse which I find useful if I need to backtrack through a hacked door. I don't suggest using this though if you don't have insulation since its a coin flip if you're going to get a shock from the snip. Speaking of insulation, the budget gloves aren't the only ones that have a chance of preventing shock, the fake insulated gloves have a chance of being insulated themselves, albeit a small one. Want to set up a trap? Pulse the door until the Check Wiring Light has been turned on. Congratulations in having turned the safety off and created a crushing machine. For quicker crushing pulse the Check Timing Light on as well. Tired of finding butt pictures scattered around the station? Apply an emag to the photocopier to punish those who wish to print out a picture of their ass to share with others. At best their buns are going to be toasty, if they decide to print out a whole bunch at once though expect to find a charred corpse lacking an ass on your photocopier. Miners all dead and Research isn't delivering tech disks? Pester Botanists for some produce to ship out or if they're also being lazy head to the Arrivals Garden to grow some yourself. Those metal tiles on the floor getting you down? Get a container, scrape some fungus off the wall and apply some blood to it for instant carpet. Not sure what the lower threshold is but splashing as little as 5u will get you a carpet tile. Need extra plant/chemistry bags because yours have gone missing? Get a Biomass Generator upgraded and you can print out some new ones. Feeling lazy as a botanist and want to play around a bit without the chef pestering you too much? Those plots of soil behind the kitchen can be self-sustained like the hydroponics trays with Earthsblood. Plant what the chef needs, toss them a plant bag, and let them harvest at their leisure what they want. Lacking plots to grow nifty things? Create some astroturf from grass clicking it in your hand, throw it down, dig it up with a spade/shovel, use the resulting sand to make sandstone brick. 3 will get you a brand new plot to toss down with which you can grow more plants with. Are you a vampire that needs medical assistance? Careful of the body scanners, they won't give you away outright but a keen doctor may notice that you have more blood in your body than should be there and might contact Security about the irregularity.
  5. While I disagree that what I proposed would make it irrelevant fluff I can't disagree with the extra form of grief and abuse that would follow since it is inevitable you'll get individuals who try to game the system at the expense of others. Maybe one day we'll have those nice things...
  6. I can agree that without persistence there isn't a scarcity of resources however I'm not speaking about establishing an actual economy in which there is a definitive supply and demand where a scarcity would drive up prices of resources while a surplus would drive down those same prices. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the point you're trying to make but what I'm suggesting is a simple method for making credits more relevant than what they currently are. Introducing an artificial demand for key items (in this instance medkits) isn't necessary, its just slapping prices on items that individuals outside of those departments they can be found if they do not wish to go through the proper channels to obtain them. Medkit on the bridge empty? Better go over to Medbay spend a few credits to restock the kit. Want some unstable mutagen for Botany? Better pull out your wallet to pay for some from Medbay or SciChem. Its just a fledgling purpose for the use of an item that at the moment really doesn't have much of a use outside of roleplay purposes and even then very rarely, or entertainment purposes in purchasing items from the cargo console, or playing the slots if you're really bored. While the idea of having a bank account that rolls over from round to round would be wonderful it simply shifts the balance in favor of those who can regularly play as opposed to those who can't and would further the argument against giving the credits a purpose beyond what they already serve now since to slap a price tag on items would suddenly make it all the more unfair for those who can't save up credits in a timely fashion to get goodies and in the end turn them off from playing the game all together.
  7. Rather than having a persistent economy where your bank account rolls over to each round, what about a simple economy where there are set prices that are unaltered for products that are charged to personnel outside of the department with the same randomly generated bank account system that is given at round start modified with a paycheck based on the job that is selected that is deposited into the accounts every half hour of the round. All charges for products don't go to the individual's personal account but instead go to the department account which can be used for the benefit of the department or the employees within at the discretion of the head of that department. The request console can be used to order something from cargo and instead of using up Supply Points there can be a choice to pay for it from the Department's Account with the order being recorded in the Accounting System which can be reviewed by the Head of the Department. In the sense of how it could be implemented through such departments like Botany, place fridges that can be loaded and would pre-set a price for the product itself that can then be obtained by whoever wants to pay for the product so long as they have the funds to do so, whereas intradepartmental acquisition of resources like between the chef and the botanist are completely waived since the resources acquired would be for that department's use. That will prevent an unfair advantage that come from players that can sink more time into the game than players who can only spend perhaps a round every other day playing since the bank accounts are reset with each round. It will curtail the problem of painting targets on the back of individuals who accumulate a great deal of wealth since the wealth accumulated would be based entirely upon the job that is being performed, those with the biggest targets on their back being members of command who shouldn't be in a position where they'd have their information/ID stolen to begin with. It would resolve the meta/grudge problem since as before, there isn't a great deal of wealth centralized in any one place since the accounts themselves are still randomly generated. The self-antagging is a simple resolution as a simple modification of Space Law to either include the stealing of a certain amount of money to fall beneath 'Petty Theft' 'Robbery' ' 'Theft' 'Grand Theft' or you could even create a new category specifically for the theft of funds from the station. In order not to allow the HoP to get away with the crime completely free, allow the Heads of Departments the ability to see and manage their department's accounts along with the Head of Personnel so there isn't just a single individual with control of the information. In this way we can make credits more relevant in the game without completely breaking the current system. A slight modification to the slot machines either increasing the cost of the credits used or cap the maximum payout to 10,000 credits with the same percent chance as winning 100,000 or even 1 million credits so it still encourages the use of the slots without entirely breaking the balance. I think focusing on a simple framework for an economy instead of trying to tape on a framework that would introduce more problems than solutions to the current issue would be the best course of action in this sense. Then later as it becomes solidified and the bugs are worked out of it we can introduce different aspects of the economy and make it a bit more in depth than what we started with.
  8. Hello, I play Sihsse Zsak, better known as the fabulously dressed in red with pink scales Magistrate that is only OCCASIONALLY ignored now. I can also be found lurking in Botany or the Arrivals Gardens and from time to time crawling maintenance for treats. Otherwise I'll make a little hidey-hole or break in to the rarely used Engi Outpost for some quiet time.

Character Biography Background: [REDACTED] Family: [REDACTED] History: NanoTrasen keeps a tight reign on his background, whether it was at his own request or at the request of his superiors only a few within Central Command are privileged enough to know it. Official documents released to the public has his history starting from when NanoTrasen acquired him from Moghes, where after lengthy medical stay he found work within their Law Department as an assistant, filing papers, sorting, retrieving books for the various Agents and Magistrates. Being well read and with a decent education it didn't take him long to get a grasp of Space Law and Operating Procedure that rivalled many of the Agents and even some Magistrates. His calm personality and tendency to enjoy paperwork had served him well within the department and he quickly found himself officially employed in Internal Affairs as one of their Agents. Eventually after several reports of various issues, some even including fellow Internal Affairs Agents, he was deployed to the NSS Cyberiad to watch and report back the operations of the staff and when necessary even the Command. After some time spent on the NSS Cyberiad working in their Law Office and occasionally in the Medical Department, he has received a promotion from the NT High Court to the position of Magistrate. While excited by the new job trepidation was felt, as it was a job that he knew could easily make him more enemies than it did friends.
