  1. Security are the 'defense' force for a corporation that employs deathsquads, on a station that has nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons.

The general idea of the use of force is to go one level above what the suspect is using. Hence if they're using stuns, you use lethals. Security shouldn't be honour bound to use the same level of force against people to be nice and give them a fair chance. They're jackbooted thugs of an evil megacorp.

I don't see why we should try to decrease the lethality of sec encounters for people who attack them. If you don't want to get gunned down by sec, don't use weapons against them and run away instead.

I have only gone under one in game name, Norm Flex'Donald

You previously asked to have another name reviewed? We have logs too - you've used multiple different names in game.

Denied because you're lying and in a really dumb and provable way. Lie to us again and I'll just outright ban you.

  3. Hi there,

That name seems fine to me, I could see why someone is cautious but yeah, it's a real word (and a cool one). Spell it Dip'thong or dipthong, whatever you prefer.

    Name review approved!

  4. Part of the rules say you have to do the role you signed up for. Protesting and striking is the opposite of that.

Giving people "Some antag status" for starting a union will mean people will do it constantly for a free antag role.

This is something the staff have 0 interest in for the server. It's only fun for the people doing it, not for everyone else trying to do their jobs.

You can Ahelp for permission to do it, but there's no way this will be allowed automatically. It gets very old very fast.

Add an Abstain vote button for those who dont particularly care for which map, but they dont want to add to the box pile

Sure why the hell not. Good to get the data to see who doesn't give a shit.

Force the vote window up on vote start

I think this will be fine and not too annoying, we can always change it later if it is.

MAYBE lock out pvp until theyve voted as incentive? This one is highly contentious so will need actual thought behind it, but this is my 3-piece guaranteed more votes piece.

Hmmmmmm let's try other options first I think.

@AffectedArc07how hard would getting better logging/graphs/etc for votes be?

Other suggestions highly welcome - admins chatted a bit about rewards for voting and decided heavily against that.

  6. If there really is a high demand for non-box maps, then encouraging people to vote more seems to be the best option. Not removing people's ability to vote for their preferred option.

Forced pop-ups, sounds, a bigger icon, all that seem to give the players on the server the best and fairest choice. Removing the option to vote for a map entirely comes across as grossly unfair and the 'sour grapes' option.

  7. With low voter turnout, then it should be even easier to switch to a different map if enough people cared about it. That not happening shows it's an incredible minority of people who want a different map - it should be pretty easy to get Delta voted in with such low turnout, so this just shows that other maps aren't popular at all.

Taking away what is clearly the top choice 50% of the time seems quite wrong to me. Blaming it on people being 'conservative' discounts valid criticisms and dislikes of other maps. It's no surprise to me that people would prefer the map with 9+ years of work done on it. I can't remember the exact numbers or even where they are, but the tests we've run of other maps have generally shown a clear preference for Box.

  8. Hi there,

To call a jobban '100%' immoral is frankly ridiculous. Even a wet blanket like Kant would likely look at this and say 'dude it's a videogame, chill.'.

Getting demoted generally means you're not acting in the way we expect from command - you should be trying to keep your job. Especially for command positions, you're held to a higher standard - the minimum standard is 'don't get fired'. You didn't live up to that. You then went on to further break the rules by creating a manhunt during a code red situation.

Being incompetent at your job is not a free pass to go around as a 'tider' and cause shit for security during a code red situation. Admins can often take time to determine what the appropriate punishment is, and your actions after the demotion can tie into their decision as to whether you are suitable or not for command roles. Overall, the spirit of the rules is more important than the letter. Perhaps you are right and a job ban was not appropriate, and a general server ban would have been more appropriate - in this case @Dsdiy went with the lesser of the two options. Considering this is roughly 24 hours after your server ban was lifted, @Dsdiy was a lot more merciful than I or a lot of other admins would have been.

If you insist, we can of course rectify this, but I'm going to assume you'd prefer the command ban stay in place. In this case, I think it's appropriate to give you a chance to take some time to re-earn the trust to play command roles, so that hopefully you can do them in the future without being demoted.

Complaint is without merit and resolved.

  9. Hi there,

It appears you broke the rule about OOC in IC chat, talking about powergaming and game mechanics ICly. This is against the rules, and you were warned for this.

    image.png.e09cf60f977af92d42fa085c0f515f45.png

You escalated this to a ban, which was  at your request, as opposed to simply saying 'ok I won't', which would have been very easy. You should well know about OOC in IC rules, as someone who first logged into our server in 2014 - we've had those rules the whole time.

It's quite acceptable for people to attempt to escape being cuffed - that isn't considered powergaming. Antags especially are expected to attempt to escape.

Even if it were powergaming, it is still unacceptable to use OOC terms in IC - you should use the proper channels such as Ahelp to report rule breaking.

    Complaint is without merit.

  10. Given the context of you originally choosing an utterly unfitting name, I can see exactly why 'banana' and 'gorilla' were denied - they're silly names, and should be reserved for a clown or the like.

This is in no way an abuse of power or someone 'flexing their authority'. It seems to me @Dsdiywas attempting to preserve the RP environment we're looking for. There's nothing about those names that's needed for the character or help the RP at all.

    Complaint is without merit.

  11. I'm unsure why having Stewart as a last name is an issue, or why it would be forgotten after 57 years -  barring extreme dementia, no one would forget their own name. The Seniors I work with IRL are generally much older, and have 0 problems with remembering their names, even those with dementia.

As for NT's records, I'm not sure why they'd be lost after 57 years - I've done work for the National Archives with handwritten records, and despite being over 80 years old we still had them, so that doesn't add up.

Honestly, I don't see what's so hard about having Stewart as your last name, or why not having it listed on your ID is vital to your RP. This isn't an attempt for admins to "flex power" as you said to them, this is us trying to create an RP environment that makes sense.

Review complete, a last name will be required.

  12. The 'lazy' part of this system is to reduce coding bloat and snowflake code. We've had many variations on how it's worked, some were lazy - in that it wasn't sanitized and HTML and other code could be inputted into it, among other exploits. It's had exploits in detecting nuke ops, and been horribly exploited in various ways. The efforts gone into by the coders stopping players from abusing it are anything but lazy.

Telepathy is much easier on other telepathic races, and that's working as intended. It isn't exactly meant for full conversations, just quick spooky messages and a few other little tricks that can be done with it. Group conversation is not the intent here. We don't want clique-private chat rooms, frankly. Greys can group chat with all of their race, and even that gets rather poorly RPd at times, sadly.

I'd be ok with maybe a bit of expansion of it, but I'd like to see other cool and useful abilities as long as they aren't too snowflaked all for one race that might not even be present in a round. I am completely against any 'pop up' or annoying thing like that. Maybe a quiet, short sound. Having it cancel once someone leaves the range would mean the code would have to check where the target is every second or so too, which is quite annoying.

  13. "If you pursue this conversation will result in a ban" means if you pursue it you'll get banned.

You pursued it. You got banned, instead of going to through the proper channels. We don't have time in a round to argue all day - and you trying to get the last word in is just annoying af.

We perma ban here if you break the rules. You did, and got a ban. You can appeal the ban. This isn't the place to talk about your feelings or complaints.

You come off as someone who isn't quite with it I'm sorry. Complaint is without merit, bizarre, and a waste of my time. Post an appeal if you're ready to follow the rules and for the love of God please keep it brief. We're volunteers here, we're not being paid by the hour to read your horrid prose.
