  1. Hate using telebatons personally but the only command I play is HOS so I'd just pew pew pew or bash you with my shield anyways (or die when you EMP my mechanical heart)

I store it in my box to use in a pinch. I've never had to except just to take it for a spin.

I could see the need to add a longer cool down to the telescopic so it can't chain stun. Don't think it needs to be outright removed.

  2. Where does the breathing under water thing help? Not saying they don't need it or anything...just wondering how it helps...maybe it could be something more...useful?

This thread also made me look up the unique traits of other races that I was unaware of. Apparently my Unathi can eat mice. Neat!

A Security Guard, for example, is basically saying he's volunteering or preferring to stay in the Brig and help the warden with prisoners and manage records, keeping it orderly.
But just because that is what he WANTS to do, doesn't mean he's absolved of normal Security Officer duties if there are too few or no Officers on staff, you'll be expected to step up because it -is- still very much your job.

Exactly. Again I know all this can already be accomplished by conversations IC, but having the titles will help coordinate. It will show what you'd PREFER to be doing and help organize who's doing what without as much foot work.

It's not like if all doctors spawn as coroners they have a party in the mourge and ignore medbay, you just have alot of doctors running around medbay in black jumpsuits.

  4. This idea spawns from me working both medical and sec primarily (sometimes a barfly and/or mime?) This also came to mind due to other posts I've seen suggesting new security roles.

Medical Doctor has several variants. They technically all have the same access and can perform all the same tasks but for both keeping things organized and RP purposes, the variants help.

I could see a use for a similar system in security. To start, anyone who works security alot knows that the Warden is overworked. Officers SHOULD be helping the warden with all the duties they are capable. Processing, keeping an eye on prisoners, and updating records.

My ideas (or ideas I've gotten from others):

Officer (primarily front line and patrols...the role most officers currently play)

Dispatcher (sits at the front desk making sure records are up to date, keeps an ear on comms as well as security inquiries in the lobby, helps coordinate officers when there are calls for help)

Guard (make sure prisoners aren't breaking out or killing themselves and assist with processing)

I'm aware this will sometimes lead to rounds where you have several dispatchers and guards and no officers. Just like medical has rounds with several coroners. In those rounds the coroner's obviously split off and perform doctor and surgery duties because they all can't be in the mourge. It'd just be the HOS and Warden to see who they've got and coordinate appropriately.

I'm not saying make a new class, just variants of a class that already exists. I know that all this stuff can already be done by officers without variants but so can all the stuff in medbay. It still helps keep medbay organized and run smoother. It can do the same for sec.

...and please save the "Guard and Dispatcher is the wardens duty" crap. Try playing warden in a busy high pop round and then tell me the warden doesn't need help. It's the equivalent of if they CMO was responsible for all cloning, chemistry, and surgery while the doctors just sit around waiting for patients to treat for lesser injuries.

  5. I like this idea. I've had more positive interactions with admins than not, and most of them humorous, so I could write a few of these myself. Several related to Spaceman if I'm not mistaken.

Just as there are ban appeals and denials to help show people the right and wrong way to do things, maybe we need both an admin complaints AND compliments section so people can share thier positive interactions with admins as well to show everyone that admins aren't just big brother in the sky awaiting to dispense justice.

Probably my daughter babbling, farting, or watching a TV show. Often simultaneously.

The best sounds. Yet another one of the reasons SS13 is great. I can't play many games while watching my toddler because they'd get the hell scared out of them (either by the game or by me raging...often a mixture of the two ;)

I CAN play SS13...only rage SOMETIMES whIle I play it. Mostly due to lag at the least convenient times.

  7. I like the new maint. I especially like the sci maint area that looks like it's an expansion of the station in progress. Could even be used to expand the station at some point...who knows? ;)

Lots of possibilities for people to create custom rooms down there as well...sorta like restoring old bar.

Wouldn't mind if we just overhauled maint every couple of months to keep things fresh  (tho I have no idea what kind of work this entails)

  8. I don't think IAAs that are unimaginably annoying are bad IAAs I actually in a wierd way they are the best IAAs. They cause disruption in an already volatile environment. They take departments that would normally run a vanilla routine and throw a wrench in it  (most of the times to my detriment as I work sec primarily) but standing back and looking at it as a whole, they make it more interesting.

...and that's what we are here for. Or at least what I'm here for. Interesting.

  9. There is a survey up asking for new jobs people want. If you wanna see this job exist as much as I do, go take the survey!

Click blue text below. Medbay Guard under both Security and Medical. Show your support! Let's make this happen!

  10. Another old story...this one probably deserves it's own topic but it fits in with "Tales from Shitcurity"...the story of the "PIMP WARDEN"

I'm playing as sec and we don't have a warden long enough for me to volunteer. I get my ID changed from pilot to warden, but the HOP doesn't close the warden slot so within 10 minutes another warden shows up. Can't remember his last name but his first name was Ricky. I meet him in the wardens office to give him a rundown of what's been happening, he opens his locker, points at me and says "BITCH! GIVE ME MY PIMP GLOVES!"

I'm thinking great...another asshole warden who just wants to be a glorified officer with cool gloves. I give him the gloves and beg him not to be bad at his job. He's just like "BITCH I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, DON'T ORDER ME AROUND, I OWN YOU"

Oh lord...I go to the HOP and revert to pilot. This warden is acting very questionable. I run into him walking around the ship and his title has been changed to "Pimp" and he points at me as says "Hoe, how are you supposed to service customers in all that armor?" (Was wearing my EVA) I'm like "Are you fucking kidding me?" Tell him to get back to the brig and do his damned job. I inform the HOS and captain of his antics and the round proceeds with him continuing this routine, butting heads with everyone in Sec, various complaints about him doing a bad job to which he argues "You bitches may not understand my methods, but I'm really INSPIRING you to work harder"

HOS either dies or cryos...can't remember, Captain asks me to come be promoted to acting HOS, Ricky argues it's his job per SOP. I'm mortified by the notion of this fool being HOS so I protest, but IAA gets involved and the Pimp is now our HOS. He does this routine where he literally refers to officers as his "product" and criminals as "customers" and keeps complaining that he shouldn't have to service customers  (process prisoners) and that his hoes (officers) aren't doing thier job.

At this point I've had enough and I AHELP because this is just absurd. I explain a routine like this would be sort of acceptable for a greytide but we can't have something as important as the warden and especially the HOS acting like this. I was fairly new at the time so wasn't aware something like this could be handled IC. I beleive the captain was one of the admins so we end up going through a process IC where he gets demoted...forcefully...and that's pretty much that..

  11. I'll even volunteer myself to create the wiki page for this class as long as someone who is capable of adding it to the game does it. I'll do anything I'm capable of to help make this happen.

I'm aware this isn't something that can happen overnight I'm just trying to keep it alive till someone says they are working on it lol

Do I need to start a topic in code discussion or do I just cross my fingers and hope? Who do I have to befriend? I need to know where to start lol

  12. Bumping this due to playing in the test runs on Metastation. The resources to create this class already exist:

Take the locker and it's contents from the sec checkpoint in Metastation medbay.

Take the current map used for Paradise and change the northern most isolation room (which are *NEVER* used) from Medbay into a sec checkpoint. (They just completely overhauled all of maint so I imagine one little room isn't that much work)

Take the code for brig doc (which already has all the necessary access), copy and paste, change the name and some appearance gear. For a uniform I've tried a few things but my favorite has been white jumpsuit, white cap, jackboots and black/fingerless gloves.

Done deal. Medbay guard is then born. Overextended security force on the overpopulated server gets some relief. Antags get a bit more of a challenge.

It's not just antags job to make the game interesting, thier opposition is meant to make it more interesting for them as well :P

It'd even give antags another potential location to steal gear from like they already do with the arrivals checkpoint.

  13. I'd just like to see how the autopsy will help the investigation. Let's take this example:

Dead body is found. Detective scans it. Fibers from medical hardsuit and black gloves. No DNA, no fingerprints. Not much to go off. So we know we are looking for someone potentially in a medical hardsuit with black gloves. Autopsy reveals the additional info that the death was caused by an energy sword. What additional info was revealed that will help determine who did it? If someone was seen with a real energy sword we would arrest them anyways even if they hadn't used it to kill anyone.

Security pretty much only has a strong lead to go off if they get DNA or fingerprints. The type of weapon that killed someone doesn't really help unless someone is walking around waving the weapon around. If the weapon is a common item (hatchet, fire extinguisher, etc) anyone could get thier hands on one, if it's uncommon it's already contraband and illegal if we find someone who has it. Most of the time sec already has a name and it's just a matter of finding the person wherever they are hiding, especially because cloning sickness isn't mandatory (which I wish it was...but let's face it admins got enough crap to deal with and this would be one more thing they'd have to police). Half of victims wake up and are like "SO AND SO KILLED ME!"

Don't get me wrong I'd LOVE for autopsies to be more important. If they could reveal DNA of the attacker they'd help. Or something more? Dunno...

  14. Honestly Birdtalon was probably somewhat right when I first posted this. Not that I had just died to it right before posting but I had recently experienced it alot. I've died to stupid crap so many times at this point I don't even care anymore. I've also gotten much better at dealing with the stupid crap. Bring it on :)

I'm willing to admit when I'm a bit salty. Pretty sure I'm fueled by salt ???

  15. I'm from the USA and we are the teenagers of the world. Much younger than most other countries and naive enough to think we are smarter and better than everyone else...and the obsession with that notion is actually our greatest downfall.

We are the spoiled rich kid who gets nearly everything they want but still complains they don't have everything with complete disregard and unawareness of those who are truly needy.

  16. I'd be a fan of something different from Metastation. Paradise did a few Metastation tests yesterday and it has some aspects to it that are good but I feel it has alot of flaws, and I don't mean bugs, I mean design flaws. Overall I still feel like the current map is a superior design to Meta so I'd love to see a completely different design.

Liver already does. Liver damage causes you to take toxins damage, and no liver means you get instantly drunk.

Is it the liver damage that makes you take toxic damage or is it just the alcohol? Because again, my liver and kidneys were literally dead (as damaged as possible) and I was having no ill effects from it.

I think the liver and kidneys take damage from toxins but I don't think the liver and kidneys are the cause of any negative effect.

I'll experiment on my monkeys more with alcohol and gasses n stuff.

  18. I wish autopsies were just more...necessary. Early on I played coroner a few times. Did autopsy reports where I wrote the cause of death, signed it, attached a photo for EVERY corpse that came in. I prepped and tagged every body appropriately. Even stored all thier stuff in lockers and returned thier IDs and PDAs to the HOP.

Was super excited that security might need the reports at some point but every shift it resulted in me carrying a folder of lots of effort that nobody was ever gonna see or need to the shuttle.

It was sometimes interesting RP wise but I lost the drive to do the detailed reports.

  19. I had a match the other day where alot of misfortune happened that resulted in both my legs being replaced with robotic legs but I had broken hips most of the round. Due to the robotic legs it didn't make me walk slower like it normally would. I wasn't suffering periodic damage. Just kept getting messaged about bones moving in my hips.

Sometime later I finally got surgery to fix my hips and was informed that my liver and kidneys were completely dead. I carried on the rest of the round suffering no ill effects from this.

Decided I'd test this out and went onto snowstation. Completely removed all the lower body organs from a monkey, then set it up side by side with another monkey with all the organs in tact. Gave them the same amount of toxin. Same results on both. They even metabolized charcoal at the same rate.

If your brain is removed you die (duh)

Damage to your heart and lungs or if they are removed it causes you to suffer oxy damage.

Your kidneys and liver should have some link to causing AND curing toxic damage.

Adding such a function would do two things. It would make these organs more realistically necessary, and it would also make it so people don't need to find charcoal when suffering a minor amount of toxic damage.
