  1. If that's practical at the time. Once things spread I often see people just go for the kill.
  2. To be fair. Human skin is space resistant. You don't just instantly die in space.
  3. Perhaps add a karma role in the form of a centcomm enforcer? Solely there to back up the IAAs with firepower if needed.
  4. I meant "Easier in the context of a space station where pipes that can hold thousands of pounds of pressure inside them are commonly available to random interns who for some reason feel the need to build ghetto weaponry." Especially when some past assistant took it upon himself to design a reciever to handle all the complicated bits that you can just screw a pipe into. And that's just it. You don't NEED it to get any decent kind of range. The station isn't that big. It's a five minute walk from one end to the other. Most fights are taking place at a distance where MELEE is possible for crying out loud. And have you SEEN the spread on the improvised shells? It's basically useless unless you literally pull it out right next to someone and headshot them while they're down or you get tech shells. The few times this isn't the case are the weapons that have scope features that let you extend the length of your screen, A La the mauler and the sniper rifle. That's not a sword. That's a sharp hunk of metal. There is a difference. Personally I'd suggest either a fire helmet or a engineering helmet with reinforced glass and metal and duct tape.
  5. See, I like planning a permabrig escape. If I know there are traitors and such already captured.
  6. Do you WANT Borer hosts to get purged with fire? Conversion antags are kind of high priority kills.
  7. Seems silly, but personally I LIKE permabrig and wish there was more use of it.
  8. Yes. A match and a sealed tube with one open end. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_cannon Mind you, the improvised shotgun /is/ in fact shit compared to every other firearm in the game. And that's with it using a high tech receiver designed to be cobbled together with what's on hand. But crude firearms are thousands of years old. And the requirements are things already on the station. A sealable tube meant to withstand extreme pressure, a combustible material, and something to be propelled by the reaction.
  9. Because swords are hard to make and shotguns aren't? Bombs are also traditionally easy to make. Personally I find the spear goes well with the shield. But if we're proposing alternatives, I'd suggest an axe before a sword.
  10. Hmm. Personally I like the idea of the labor camp as an alternative. Perhaps as a two birds one stone thing, have the labor camp go to lavaland? Or in the mean time an asteroid that isn't the mining one? Still gives options for escape but it's no longer easy.
  11. You shouldn't get blinded or stunned by a flash when blind. For example, you're head is no longer attached to your body.
  12. I was once found in maintenance three seperate occasions by three seperate officers. I had a glass spear, and a bonfire going, and I was hurling books I had dubbed heresy from the library into it. Not one of them stopped me, searched me, or even questioned why I was sitting in the maintenance tunnel behind the library burning books like some kind of tribal savage on red alert. It wasn't until one found me in the main hallway that they asked me to hand over the spear.
  13. Just gonna say this is gonna be abused to hell.
  14. I play this now and then. Not recently. I finished my playthrough of the Holy Norse Empire like, a year ago and then moved on to Stellaris.
  15. The Very Easy Way. 1.) Join the Greytide. 2,) Smash the Cluwne. 3.) Drag Cluwne to the incinerator. 4.) Remove cluwne from existence via fire. 5.) the existence of the Cluwne is now fixed.
  16. Actually, to correct you. Both the head of security AND the captain can pass out weapons permits to any crew member they please under current space law. This is something that's already in the system. It's just rarely used Because the only firearms are the hilariously lethal shotguns.
  17. I didn't mean to suggest that MAD would hold. I merely mean to say this would shift the balance of power towards those willing to RP for tools and access.
  18. And? You can get improvised shells NOW. Heck, theoretically you can even have a permit for them.
  19. It would lead to less disarm slapfests if only because people could shoot at you.
  20. It's a star trek thing. In Star Trek it was for non-human/alien threats like engine malfunctions, docking, power failure, that seperation thing they do with the two halfs of the enterprise splitting apart. Basically. Blue Alert was for environmental and technical hazards that weren't going to destroy the entire ship. Red Alert was for 'we gotta fight people now.' or 'Oh shit, the entire ship is about to explode.'
  21. Pretty simple idea that can be used for any number of RP purposes. Add an input in character creation called association. In there there will be one or two free Societies to choose from. For example maybe one consists of disaster preppers. Or a fraternity from a Martian college. Karma ones could be more interesting, like membership in a famous mercenary company or whatever. No real mechanical advantage aside from giving people a reason to be friends with strangers and a shared background.
  22. I like necahaluduns idea. Also wow I butchered their name. Sorry.
  23. Had him as my vampire kill objective once. Full power vamp with a subverted AI comes after him while his arms are broken and the floor has been lubed... And he escaped.
  24. Antags and sec will always vary in power. So much depends on sheer luck, as an example recently I was killed, hauled across the station in a locker, then fired out of the disposals mass driver without incident.... Until my corpse locker darn near collided with a space pod. Immediately recovered. The best plans with the best execution can fall by the wayside just because someone happened to be watching the cameras. Or walked in at the wrong moment. And most things you can do to prevent these only draw attention.
