Random Events are events that occur throughout the round after round-start which have varying rarity and severity depending on their type. These events can range from simple new stories that have no impact on the crew, to minor nuisances like APC's shorting out, to full team antagonists such as Terror Spiders that are capable of ending rounds early. Some events are announced to the crew while others happen silently. Events are classified as either Mundane, Moderate, or Major events as well as an assigned weight within that classification which dictates their rarity and frequency.
Event Cycle
Events fire off in three cycles based on the event classification. Each event classification has a possible initial wait time after round-start before the first of its type fires off as well as a random interval of time in-between each consecutive event after the initial. Additionally, the more players in a round, the shorter the interval between events.
Mundane Events do not have an initial wait time and fire off every 10-15 minutes. Moderate events have an initial wait time of 25-40 minutes and fire off every 30-45 minutes. Major events have an initial wait time of 55-75 and fire off every 50-70 minutes. While events have these preset time intervals, they can also be forced by administrators.
Event Weight
Once it is time for a new event to be fired, one is randomly chosen based on a preset weight and a few variables. The higher weight an event has, the more likely it is to be picked. Much like wait times, each event has a preset weight interval. In addition to base weight, certain events are given more weight based on the number of crew members in specific departments.
All Events
Mundane Events
Random events that have little to no impact on the round.
Event | Description |
---|---|
PDA Spam |
Random crew members will receive spam PDA messages with various offers, including the infamous wetskrell.nt website supposedly endorsed by the Nanotrasen Morale Division. These messages are harmless, if mildly annoying, and cannot be replied to. More likely to roll the more crew members there are. |
Economic News |
A story on the newscasters will be released revolving around economical news in the galaxy. This tends to detail catastrophe's, markets falling out, or economy booms. |
Trivial News |
A story on the newscasters will be released revolving around trivial news in the galaxy. This tends to detail boring everyday things you'd find in the sidebar of a newspaper. Good for learning about the general on goings of the galaxy, however. |
Mundane News |
A story on the newscasters will be released revolving around mundane news in the galaxy. This tends to detail minorly significant things that you may see on the second or even third page of a newspaper. Good for learning about the minor on goings of the galaxy. |
Vermin Infestation |
Lifesign Alert - "Bioscans indicate that [VERMIN] have been breeding in the [CHOSEN AREA]. Clear them out, before this starts to affect productivity." Mice, lizards, or spiderlings appear in a random location on the station. While mice and lizards are generally harmless, the spiderlings, if left unchecked, can grow into Giant Spiders which pose a threat to crew health and station integrity. More likely to roll the more Janitors there are. |
Sentience |
(Player-Controlled) - A random creature onboard the station suddenly becomes sentient and aware. When this event occurs, ghost players with "Sentient animal" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a sentient animal. The animal will be able to speak Galactic Common, will have its health increased, and will able to attack objects and people. For more information, see Animal. |
Wallrot |
Greenish brown wallrot fungus appears along a random amount of walls somewhere on the station. If not dealt with in a timely manner the wall becomes unstable and can disintegrate on touch! Wallrot can be dealt with by either using a welder on it or simply letting the wall disintegrate and then rebuilding it. Only able to roll if there are Engineers on the station. |
Fungal Growth |
Orange fungus appears along a random amount of walls deep in the maintenance tunnels. Scooping it into a beaker gives an ingredient needed to make a few chemicals, notably Spaceacillin. Can be completely removed with standard cleaning supplies. More likely to roll the more Chemists there are. |
Koi School |
Lifesign Alert - "Unknown biological entities have been detected near [STATION], please stand-by." Various large groups of Space Koi fish will float into the area around the station. They are generally very friendly and cute, but if you hit one they tend to get upset and smash a few things. |
Camera Failure |
1 to 3 cameras across the station will randomly fail and be disabled until someone comes to fix them. More likely to roll the more Engineers there are. |
Fake Virus |
A small number of crew members will suffer from fake virus symptom messages. |
Bureaucratic Error |
Paperwork Mishap Alert - "A recent bureaucratic error in the Human Resources Department may result in personnel shortages in some departments and redundant staffing in others. Contact your local HoP to solve this issue." One or two random jobs will be picked and have their available slots decreases or increases by up to two. |
Mundane Disease Outbreak |
The next crew member to board the station will be infected with either a randomly chosen preset virus, or a completely new one with random symptoms. Severity of the virus ranges from barely noticeable effects to slight annoyance. More likely to roll the more Medical Doctors there is. |
Moderate Events
Random events that have a minor to moderate impact on the ongoings of the crew.
Event | Description |
---|---|
False Alarm |
A random event announcement is triggered, bringing chaos and fake news to the station! |
Appendicitis |
A random crew member gains appendicitis. Without treatment the condition can be fatal! Only able to roll if there are Medical Doctors on the station. |
Carp School |
Lifesign Alert - "Unknown biological entities have been detected near the [STATION], please stand-by." Groups of hostile Space Carps and Mega Carps surround the station's exterior, attacking anyone in their sight. More likely to roll the more Engineers and Security there is. |
Rogue Drones |
Rogue drone alert - "A combat drone wing operating out of the NSV Icarus has failed to return from a sweep of this sector, if any are sighted approach with caution." "Contact has been lost with a combat drone wing operating out of the NSV Icarus. If any are sighted in the area, approach with caution." "Unidentified hackers have targeted a combat drone wing deployed from the NSV Icarus. If any are sighted in the area, approach with caution." A group of rogue Combat Drones starts orbiting space around the station in search of anything to liquidate. More dangerous than Space Carp, as they can shoot lasers! Only able to roll if there is Security on the station. |
Space Vines |
Nasty Kudzu vines start to spread from a random hallway with a random hostile mutation. While not a terribly dangerous threat, if allowed to grow large enough it can be almost impossible to contain. More likely to roll the more Engineers there are. |
Meteor Shower |
Meteor Alert - "The station is now in a meteor shower." The station enters a meteor shower, causing havoc and destruction as it starts getting hit by oncoming meteors before passing the shower. Only able to roll if there are Engineers on the station. Not to be confused with the more devastating Meteor Wave. |
Solar Flare |
Incoming Solar Flare - "A solar flare has been detected on collision course with the station. Do not conduct space walks or approach windows until the flare has passed!" Everyone who has a clear view into space begins to take heavy burn damage and gets blinded. On a positive note, solar arrays get a boost by generating 40 times more power than usual! Only able to roll if there are Engineers on the station. |
Meaty Ores |
Meaty Ore Alert - "Meaty ores have been detected on collision course with the station." Lifesign Alert - "Unknown biological entities have been detected near [STATION], please stand-by." Slightly different than a meteor shower in that instead of rocks the station is damaged by fast-moving space cows which burst into a gory mess on impact! Only able to roll if there are Engineers on the station. |
Communication Blackout |
Attention - "Ionospheric anomalies detected. Temporary telecommunication failure imminent. Please contact you*%fj00)`5vc-BZZT" "Ionospheric anomalies detected. Temporary telecommunication failu*3mga;b4;'1v?-BZZZT" "Ionospheric anomalies detected. Temporary telec#MCi46:5.;@63-BZZZZT" "Ionospheric anomalies dete'fZ\\kg5_0-BZZZZZT" "Ionospheri:%? MCayj^j<.3-BZZZZZZT" "#4nd%;f4y6,>?%-BZZZZZZZT" The station's radio communication network experiences a sudden blackout, temporarily rendering all headsets useless. Intercoms and handheld radios bypass this and still work, though with a small delay between messages. Has a chance to not be announced but the AI will always be informed of it rolling. More likely to roll if there is an AI or the more Security there is. |
Prison Break |
Security Alert - "Gr3y.T1d3 virus detected in [STATION] imprisonment subroutines. Secure any compromised areas immediately. Station AI involvement is recommended." "Malignant trojan detected in [STATION] imprisonment subroutines. Secure any compromised areas immediately. Station AI involvement is recommended." All of Security's prisoner containment areas suffer a sudden malfunction and have their doors bolted open and lights, releasing all the potential prisoners into the wild! Only able to roll if there is Security on the station. |
APC Short |
Systems Power Failure - "Overload detected in [STATION]'s powernet. Engineering, please repair shorted APCs." Randomly chosen APC's get their power wires cut and their breakers turned off. More likely to roll the more Engineers there are. |
Electrical Storm |
Electrical Storm Alert - "An electrical storm has been detected in your area, please repair potential electronic overloads." A randomly chosen section of the station will have it's lights overload, causing all the lights in the area to spontaneously shatter. More likely to roll the more Engineers and Janitors there are. |
Radiation Storm |
Anomaly Alert - "High levels of radiation detected near the station. Maintenance is best shielded from radiation." Emergency access is granted to all maintenance airlocks, and after 40 seconds, a massive wave of radiation hits the station, irradiating and mutating anyone outside of maintenance. No, going outside into the storm won't give you super powers unless you are very lucky. More likely to roll the more Medical Doctors there is. |
Spider Infestation |
Lifesign Alert - "Unidentified lifesigns detected coming aboard [STATION]. Secure any exterior access, including ducting and ventilation." Similar to the Vermin Infestation event, although it's only spiderlings with an increased number of them dependent on the amount of crew onboard. More likely to roll the more Security there is. |
Ion Storm |
Anomaly Alert - "Ion storm detected near the station. Please check all AI-controlled equipment for errors." The onboard AI receives a randomly generated Ion Law that will be higher than all of it's normal laws which can drastically change it's behavior. It can be removed with a law reset board in the AI upload chamber, though it's likely you will find it hard getting there if the law is bad enough. Has a chance to not be announced at all. Only able to be roll if there is an AI on the station. More likely to be roll the more Cyborgs, Engineers and Scientists there are. |
Immovable Rod |
General Alert - "What the fuck was that?!" An Immovable Rod tears through the fabric of reality and penetrates the station in a straight line. Ducking for cover will prevent you from getting hit! Only able to roll if there are Engineers on the station. |
Mass Hallucination |
Attention - "The [STATION] is passing through a minor radiation field. Be advised that acute exposure to space radiation can induce hallucinogenic episodes." A minor radiation field causes the crew to suffer from hallucinations. Hiding in maintenance will not protect you, though protective clothing will! The hallucinations are generally harmless, at worst causing crew members to pass out for a few seconds. |
Brand Intelligence |
Machine Learning Alert - "Rampant brand intelligence has been detected aboard [STATION], please stand-by. The origin is believed to be [TYPE] vendor." Rampant(tm) Brand Intelligence infects one vending machine on board the station. Infected machines give voice to strange marketing slogans and shoot their wares at passers-by. If left alone the virus will spread to other nearby vending machines until all vendors on the station are infected, at which point they will all explode and/or start attacking the crew! To deal with the infection you must find the original rebel, open up it's maintenance panel and either cut all the wires, disable the voice switch or dismantle the vendor completely to prevent it from spreading further. More likely to roll the more Engineers there are. |
Dimensional Tear |
Anomaly Alert - "A tear in the fabric of space and time has opened. Expected location: [AREA]." An otherworldly dimensional tear appears in a random place on the station and releases several dangerous creatures which will attack any nearby crew. Only able to roll if there is Security on the station. |
Honknomoly |
Honknomoly Alert - "A Honknomoly has opened. Expected location: [AREA]." A tear in the dimensional fabric of sanity appears in a random place on the station and releases several dangerous clown creatures which will honk any nearby crew to death. Out of Rotation. |
Vent Clog |
Atmospherics alert - "The scrubbers network is experiencing a backpressure surge. Some ejection of contents may occur." A backpressure surge in the scrubbers network causes several locations on the station to be showered with a variety of chemicals ranging from harmless (Water, Flour, Hot Cocoa) to amusing (LSD, Psilocybin, Methamphetamine) to outright lethal (Amanitin, Neurotoxin, Fluorosulphuric Acid). |
Wormholes |
Anomaly Alert - "Space-time anomalies detected on the station. There is no additional data." Wormholes spawn across the station. Stepping into one teleports you to a random location of the station. This also includes space and walls, so be careful where you walk! |
Anomalies |
Anomaly Alert - "Localized hyper-energetic flux wave detected on long range scanners. Expected location: [AREA]." "Gravitational anomaly detected on long range scanners. Expected location: [AREA]." "Pyroclastic anomaly detected on long range scanners. Expected location: [AREA]." "Localized high-intensity vortex anomaly detected on long range scanners. Expected location: [AREA]." "Cryogenic anomaly detected on long range scanners. Expected location: [AREA]." "Unstable bluespace anomaly detected on long range scanners. Expected location: [AREA]." A randomly chosen anomaly will appear in a random area of the station, causing damage depending on it's type. They must be defused within a 99 second time-frame, or else they will have a special debilitating effect, ranging from causing a large explosion to temporarily disabling gravity! For more information, see Anomalies. More likely to roll the more Engineers there are, unless it's a Gravitational Anomaly. |
Revenant |
(Player-Controlled) - A ghastly Revenant will come from the depths of the underworld to haunt the station to it's doom! When this event occurs, ghost players with "Revenant" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Revenant. For more information, see Revenant. |
Morph Spawn |
(Player-Controlled) - A grotesque Morph sneaks onto the station through a ventilation shaft. It's goal is to devour as many crew members as possible through disguising themselves as everyday objects or even people! When this event occurs, ghost players with "Morph" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Morph. For more information, see Morph. More likely to roll the more Security there is. |
Pulse Demon Infiltration |
(Player-Controlled) - A demonic being of pure energy pays a visit to the station as it zaps everyone and takes control of all the station machinery! When this event occurs, ghost players with "Demon" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Pulse Demon. For more information, see Pulse Demon. More likely to roll the more Engineers there are. |
Moderate Disease Outbreak |
The next crew member to board the station will be infected with either a randomly chosen preset virus, or a completely new one with random symptoms. Severity of the virus ranges from moderately annoying to dangerously lethal. Not every medical team will be able to deal with this event, so it's best to be prepared for quarantines and vaccines production! More likely to roll the more Medical Doctors there is. |
Door Runtime |
Network Alert - "Hostile runtime detected in door controllers. Isolation lockdown protocols are now in effect. Please remain calm." All doors, firelocks and lockdown blast doors are closed and shocked temporarily. After 90 seconds the system reboots and this is all reverted. More likely to roll the more Engineers there are and if there is an AI. |
Major Events
Random events that have serious implications for the crew during the round. Due to the time in between these events they often only happen at the middle point of the round (and also at the very end) which is why they are often referred to as midrounds.
Event | Description |
---|---|
Carp Migration |
Lifesign Alert - "Massive migration of unknown biological entities has been detected near [STATION], please stand-by." Similar to Carp School, but now there is more carps than before! More likely to roll the more Security there is. |
APC Overload |
Critical Power Failure - "Overload detected in [STATION]'s powernet. Engineering, please check all underfloor APC terminals." An overload in the station's powernet causes a percentage of the APC's to suffer a loss of power and it's terminal while getting it's breaker shut off. Out of rotation. |
Blob |
Biohazard Alert - "Unknown biological growth detected aboard [STATION]. All personnel must contain the outbreak." (Player-Controlled) - A blob infested mouse will enter the station and will burst into a blob after 120 seconds. A blob is a hostile growth which only goal is to expand as much as possible, consuming whole stations in the process! When this event occurs, ghost players with "Blob" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Blob. For more information, see Blob. More likely to spawn the more Engineers there are. |
Meteor Wave |
Meteor Alert - "Meteors have been detected on collision course with the station." Considerably more severe than a Meteor Shower. Multiple large meteors hit the station in several waves. Repair efforts must be swift and efficient or evacuation will be necessary! Only able to roll if there are Engineers on the station. |
Abductor Visit |
(Player-Controlled) - A pair of Abductors, one agent and one scientist, will choose the station as it's next target in expanding their knowledge of other species. They will stalk and probe any loners they can find with strange organs, being stealthy in their work. When this event occurs, ghost players with "Abductor" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as an Abductor. For more information, see Abductor. More likely to roll the more Security there is. |
Alien Infestation |
Biohazard - "Xenomorph infestation detected aboard [STATION]. All personnel must contain the outbreak." (Player-Controlled) - Predatory Xenomorph larvae will appear in the station's ventilation shafts, the amount depending on the number of crew onboard. They will grow into monstrous Xenomorphs, infecting anyone they can find with parasitical embryo and taking over the station in search of new prey! When this event occurs, ghost players with "Xenomorph" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Xenomorph. For more information, see Xenomorph. More likely to roll the more Security there is. |
Traders |
Trader Shuttle Docking Request Accepted - "A trading shuttle from [LOCATION] has been granted docking permission at [STATION] arrivals port 4." (Player-Controlled) - Two traders from a randomly chosen faction will dock to the station near the arrivals shuttle, selling various wares to the crew. When this event occurs, ghost players with "Trader" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Trader. For more information, see Traders. NOTE: If the station alert is Red or greater, the event will still trigger, but the traders will not spawn, and the crew will be notified that they have been denied docking permission due to the raised alert. Expect many groans. |
Terror Spiders |
Biohazard Alert - "Terror Spider infestation detected aboard [STATION]. All personnel must contain the outbreak." (Player-Controlled) - One of the randomly selected types of terror spiders appear in the station's vents and begin to spread wide by infecting crew or laying eggs that grow their numbers. When this event occurs, ghost players with "Terror Spider" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Terror Spider. For more information, see Terror Spider. More likely to roll the more Security there is. |
Slaughter Demon |
(Player-Controlled) - Bloodthirsty spawn of Satan known as the Slaughter Demon comes from the underworld and onto the station, hiding in a pocket dimension anywhere where blood is and attacking crew with swift surprise attacks. When this event occurs, ghost players with "Demon" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Slaughter Demon. For more information, see Slaughter Demon. |
Shadow Demon |
(Player-Controlled) - A creature morphed from shadows pays visit to the station, feeding off the darkness and killing off crew one by one to spread it even further. When this event occurs, ghost players with "Demon" turned on in the Antagonists tab are polled for the possibility of playing as a Shadow Demon. For more information, see Shadow Demon. |
