Much of what I would say has been said already, although I would like to add on to a bit of the over-defined bit of the fears. One major issue with overdefined rules is that in the event somebody skirts the rules, but doesn't necessarily break them, they can get away with a lot more with a fully explained and definite rule. It allows the type of people who like to inch their way around the hammer and still grief while not technically doing anything where we could do very much against them, even if they were well known for causing issues.

In terms of your suggestion, I believe the original wording is fairly accurate, as serious issues can often end up in murder, whereas the minor altercations should rarely if ever involve death of any kind.

In terms of your outlook on the staff playing God and banning out of anger or for fun, I'd actually really like to hear who you've dealt with, as I've not seen much truth to that. In your appeal, which is publicly visible as it entered the Accepted section, you go as far as to accuse an admin of metagaming by utilizing the check antagonist panel to determine whether or not you legitimately killed an antagonist, which is part of the job itself. The main reason as to why you had been banned was that you murdered somebody on suspicion of enthrallment, which is a bit of an issue when there's a lack of solid evidence. I only bring this up as you seem to believe that the rules were stretched unfairly against you in a case that was purely or at the very least somewhat for the admin's own benefit. There is no ban quota, there is no karma for applying bans, and bans are not a measure of the admin's worth. They could have a thousand bans or ten and still be a good admin depending on how they act in regard to and serve the community while representing it's best interests. If you do suspect an administrator of being powerhungry or out for themselves, admin complaints are meant to be handled by anybody but the min being complained about. They may make their case or defend themselves, but the final judgement call is based on evidence and the opinion of a higher ranking third party in the majority of cases.

I don't think that the rules need a change like this, as they've been more than serviceable throughout their time on the server, but I could understand a potentially expanded definition, though still as broad so as to keep things in leeway and fit more situations.

In response to the arguments of cliques, internal drama is, as it should be, kept internal. There are a variety of opinions in the staff, to the point where a number of us are far apart from viewing things how the other administrator would. Some may give a warning where others may give a perma, and plenty in between those two amounts. Again, the issue was explained by the admin handling your ban appeal, although in less than verbose and relatively simple vernacular staged as a rhetorical question.

I'm not sure that the ban was stacked in the admin's favor as, again, bans are an indicator of next to nothing when it comes to an admin's worth or proper judgement. They can be wrong, and that's why we have appeals and complaints.

In addition, as you post frequently and provide a number of arguments in your posts, murder is not only reserved for antagonists, it only becomes an issue if done for minor and often inconsequential reasons such as "X insulted my friend, so I took a bottle of whiskey to his head, lit him on fire, and shanked him until he bled out so as to be sure he wouldn't mess with my friend again."

    Great idea!

    Code it.

Already done, thank KasparoVv. I'm spriting the greyscale stuff for all the IPC heads so that we can do that robits, so really, all we need is the hair sprite split into two pieces, one for color 1, another for color 2.

  3. I'm voting yes, as I think this feature would add a bit of style and some cool undercover cop such and such, as well as letting civvies try to hide a bit of armor, or maybe giving antags a way to conceal it if it were stolen. The problem I can see with it, however, is usage of already armored jackets and coats and stacking the protection values, assuming the armor would simply add to, not overwrite the protection variables already on the jacket/coat.

Because often times experienced players have already done all there is to do and enjoy the freedom civilian offers, allowing you to do a lot more with much less responsibility in the game. This in addition to being accepted for nearly every role in the game, and more likely to be able to have time to do more interesting things (gateway, space exploration, large construction projects, D&D games, etc.) due to a sort of expendability that only the civilian role offers. Many don't wonder where the greytide come from, it's generally understood that people who are new to the game are less experienced and worse at it than experienced players, thus gaining the name, greytide. The fact that there are too few roles in the game has been stressed to death, and it's more than likely that it would need a map change to accommodate the additional slots necessary to support our often 100+ population, which is why metastation is being widely discussed in the "It's time for a bigger map" thread. Limiting the server doesn't do the server any favors in terms of adding to the game. It artificially limits people from joining, which can suck big time regardless of what role the person attempting to the connect has in staff or the server. It removes more from the experience and will drive off more players than it will help in the long run, especially now as we have an aforementioned amount of over one hundred people playing at the same time.

In short, I disagree with the statement that an artificial limit on total connections should be placed under any circumstances, and believe that the primary goal of those who play civilian often is to enjoy themselves and the game in a fashion they see personally fulfilling.

tl:dr / Why the hell are you using a long argumentative format? I like to mess about without responsibilities and being a civilian is one of the only good roles besides mechanic (assistant with a spacepod and roundstart toolbelt) to get that. Also I like talking on end without needing to say "Well shit, the job calls! I've gotta go! See you maybe never!" It's also fun to fill any job role I like if I happen to get in the mood and the HoP is feeling nice.

The reason you're misunderstood is not the way your wording things, but more that you haven't said enough on what you want to happen. It's telling us that you want change, and you're clearly upset with how things are now, but there's no place for seeking a remedy, as the rules in general are the only topic you'll give. You bring up admins a lot, so one could infer you meant that we should remove the phrase "The Staff Members have final say on the server", yet that would cause a number of issues by itself and may not be what you actually mean.

You say that there's shit to stop, but what is the shit? Admins talking to you in game about things that aren't against the rules. That makes sense, but at the same time, Administrators are meant to give a judgement call in-game, and this leaves the player to leave a respective complaint or unban request if they felt that the admin was handling their case improperly or giving them unfair treatment.

It doesn't seem like you're bad at posting stuff in terms of displaying your opinion, it just seems like you don't know how much is necessary to give out to get what you want fixed, fixed.

  6. While I agree that clarification is key to a smooth experience when it comes to rules, I will point this phrase out from the rules " The general idea counts, not the exact wording. The rules are guidelines for the server and should be interpreted to suit the situation at hand, not manipulated to suit your needs." The rules won't be perfect, and often times, admins will need to be called in to talk things over and pass judgement. The admin has the final say over things, but if you feel it wrong, you can post complaints and if you were banned for it, unban requests. This isn't to say that things shouldn't be expanded on and clarified for the future, just that it will never be perfect.

You did not read the whole thread, right? We came to conclusion that special MMI which is mechanicaly resprite of posibrain is just fine. Like human brain permanently encased in armoured shell.

I'll admit, I only read the title and post #1, mostly due to horrible laziness.
