  1. Not shutting this down would be a disservice to the community. Start at 0.
  2. Dave was working on this, but he dropped the project. Anyone is free to continue if they feel like it. https://github.com/ParadiseSS13/Paradise/pull/5218
  3. I had no idea. :v I guess I need to add another shrine for Kasparov in my basement.
  4. Well, if you put your vest underneath a coat, your arms don't get magically covered with armor. One of the problems we had to work out when I was adding the security jacket was the random chance of hitting an arm instead of the torso, making a jacket that has armored arms, but the same armor values a much more powerful part of the security arsenal. You can't just ignore something like this, I'm afraid.
  5. Adding to what Tully said, it would be impossible to implement this without completely overhauling the system for armor. You can't have armor values only on some of the limbs that a suit covers. It's all or nothing.
  6. Wait. Can we just take over the count? 17 merry Senior Admins smiting the filthy mortals below them.
  7. It's not as easy as that. Admins that can check the logs tend to be better at judging if it's alright to touch the SSD player than other players. Adminhelping won't take up too much time for you and if they wake up you might as well get on with whatever you intended on doing in the first place.
  8. As Farya said. The rule isn't there to completely blacklist all interaction. If you adminhelp, more often than not we'll say it's alright. If you find their SSDing body in maint, then it's an issue of just not being a douche towards the other player, whose internet probably cut off. Adminhelp, people!
  9. Does security really need a buff? :v It's not like the balance of security is in a place that would warrant a buff to the department. I've long been an almost lone supporter of removing a certain aspect of their armament, but adding more guns that are incredibly powerful is something I think not many people an get behind. While it sure sounds like a cool idea, there's just no way to balance this properly, because if the guns end up being useless, nobody will use them, while if they prove to be powerful, they'll be the go-to pick for security, rendering their other gear, again, useless. This doesn't really make the game more interesting, as security already has a set of ranged weapons they can use to subdue both single targets and riots (not like any ever happen anyway). I like the sprites and all, but I don't see this getting accepted into the code.
  10. 0 Dumbdumn5 now counts as a cute baby seal in this thread. That's Slade.
  11. Welcome to the server! This also means the amount of free time in your life is about to drastically decline for the next year or two. Feel free to join our Discord server if you want to chat with some of the people around here. And most importantly - HAVE FUN!
  12. A job that is centered around creating improved organs that medical or science can later put into people to make them better? Yes, please. This would need a lot more work on the concept itself, including properly balancing it all and making sure the organs won't create godlike security or antags, but I think this is a pretty good idea.
  13. If we were to start working on a new map, we'd need to browse through all the suggestions and come up with a list of features and general design guidelines that would help us make the map suit Paradise better. It's definitely doable, but as others have said, would require a massive amount of community input, not mentioning the sheer manpower needed to design the map, and then detail it properly, as well as lay out the infrastructure such as pipes and wires. I'd be interested in helping out where I can if someone were to try to run a project like this, but we'd need way more than a single person on this.
  14. I just wanted to put it out there: with the feature freeze around, work on a map won't get interrupted by a new aspect of the game you have to account for, making RIGHT NOW the best time ever to start working on a new map. If we were able to find a skilled and motivated enough team to make this work, that is.
  15. In my opinion, we should strive to make species as different as possible, many times at the cost of gameplay balance. This is already the way it is, look at Vox, for example; skrekbirbs are completely resistant to space, meaning they can easily break out of perma without anyone caring in the slightest, while their drawback - being impossible to clone - is completely irrelevant 99% of the time. They're most definitely not a balanced race and THAT'S NOT BAD. You still have a chance in a fight against a Vox, you still can throw them into solitary confinement, you still can do things. That makes the game more interesting for everyone involved. Security officers fighting against a Vox need to think about ways to counter his strengths, making the pursuit that much more fun for them. This isn't a game in which you'll win every single time, but it's one where you can have fun if you want to.
  16. In my honest opinion, I think that all species aside from humans should be karma-locked. In a similar manner to a whitelist, this would allow us to expect a slightly higher standard of RP from all the non-human players, especially considering the sizeable amount of lore that we'll probably be pushing out soon enough, and the fun character building that will be possible with it.
  17. I couldn't figure out how to craft in this game. Either I'm too dumb for it or it's too dumb for me. Sorry, guys.
  18. It is my pleasure to announce that for the past two days I've been slaving away at a lovely new (kinda new, but not really, but kinda, yeah) gamemode - Raiders (a.k.a. Space Pirates. Sounds better.) A detailed description can be found here, as I don't want to litter this place with copypastes. While a lot of the stuff is already done, I'm going to need some help figuring out the exact ideas I'm going to put into this mode. The questions I still need answers to: - Who exactly do the raiders work for? - What COOL AND INTERESTING objectives could be added to their pool besides stealing high-tech gear, murdering specific people and kidnapping other specific people - What interesting weapons/gear could be given to the raiders that would make them more interesting? (stuff that we can add to the game, not just preexisting ones) - Literally any other thing you want to say about this, the plan is making the gamemode as fun as possible. I will also probably need some help with the sprites. Before I run to the default bunch of spriters, I've heard a lot of people are willing to contribute, so I'm asking here. If anyone is interested in shoot me a PM on the Discord and I'll get you hooked up with some PLASMAMAN SPACE PIRATE SUITS to sprite (also less amazing things, but that one's #1.)
  19. Really lovely art. Can't wait to see more!
  20. My first IPC character was named C.H.A.R.L.I.E. Coincidence?
  21. Yesssssss, another soul to-- I mean, welcome to Paradise!
  22. It's already possible to transplant an MMI into an IPC body and I don't think denying gibbed IPCs cloning is related to species balance outside of downsides for the sake of downsides. There isn't any karma system gaming here if you can't make more IPC bodies, which is impossible. Getting yourself transplanted into a Drask body is not against the rules unless you make the Drask body yourself using a knife. To be fair, the one downside to this I can see is that the choice would be obvious for someone more interested in powergaming.
