  1. Exactly it is about adding direction to the players who aren't antags, adding a sense of purpose and direction to the station. Actually have goals in place for people to follow and the general to crack on with.
  2. I quite like this suggestion, I just think the current setup doesnt encourage the crew to actually do their job, it stiffles gameplay and hinders players actually LEARNING the mechanics of the game.
  3. Could the cargo ship not be coded to accept items listed as an objective? I thought the cargo ship already had the ability to 'take' Plasma and resources? Objectives such as mining, smelting ect should really be station wide since that is what the station is there for... If there arent any miners HoP could assign people the position as and when necessary - new players could be 'guided' towards the mining/cargo role, it isn't too intensive and you learn LOTS from playing it. It just gives departments something to do and the station something to work toward.
  4. Hey chaps, This is a suggestion I made many months ago that got a fair few folk on side but it's something I believe could really work well within SS13. Admin ran 'Productive Rounds' where the station as whole (and some individuals) receive objectives to complete. I often find myself getting annoyed with SS13 as there is generally a lack of motivation amongst the playerbase to get things done that frankly should be our core tasks when initially starting a round. This is generally the case because realistically for most players there is very little reason to get anything done! Every round seems to devolve into 'waiting for the station to go to hell' or 'waiting for the Antag to strike' and then of course waiting for the 'inevitable shuttle call.' Sometimes nothing of note happens at all and a 'crew transfer vote' is called where everyone is left scratching their collective heads "What was that all about?" Well I believe there is a very simple solution to this problem that being admin controlled 'Productive Rounds' where 'Station Wide' Objectives are set. I guess you could call them 'mini-events' as they should really be the norm and the aim of Nano-Transen at the start of every round, we're supposed to be working for a money grabbing corporate body anyway, why is it our corporate masters never seem to question the fact that NOTHING EVER gets shipped to them? No Plasma No Raw Materials No Smelted Materials No Manufactured Products No Grown Products ect Core Objectives could primarily be around mining, smelting a shipping but you could add all kinds of objectives, from research and development, patient care, construction, genome research through to fullfilling specific orders of food or plant types. You can also have your antags running around causing your usual problems but this would give the station more of a 'focus' at the start of the rounds and ultimately give the command staff some direction as to their leadership direction. I just figured it'd be a good way to get people motivated, admins/player heads could even expand this by awarding enthusiastic players with a little extra Karma for getting things done, alot can be said for an efficiently ran Cargo & Engineering bay. SS13 just seems at times to be so 'anti-team work' that there really is little point working with one another but its odd since alot of the nuts and bolts require team work in many respects. Throwing it open to the floor, Cheers, Radish
  5. "Oh I wonder how he died..." This is why I play SS13, you can always count on the player base to bring a smile on your face. Seriously though expand the mortuary area and implement a coroners office.
  6. From a practical point of view you're right but realistically... not so sure. Still a point we can agree on is that the role needs a proper office with access to paperwork, scanners etc.
  7. I don't know, it'd be useful to fax reports on to Security - potentially cent Comm as well depending on the nature of the death (command staff) The coroner should be it'd own stand alone role - not just a part of the MD role. The role of coroner is very different to that of a doctor, they don't treat patients, the look after the dead and ensure autopsies are carried out accordingly. Their role is a very important one in the grand scheme of things.
  8. Agreed, The mortuary seems to almost be an after thought with medical but in reality it is such an important area that sees wide use almost every round. The exam room is useless never seen a need for it since coming back, it just feels massively out of place - a proper coroners office would be much better I'd like to see the coroner get a proper office with the following: Paperwork Files/folders Pens Filing cabinet Photocopier Stapler Body Scanner Fax (to fax reports to Security/Cent Comm) Coroner stamp (to authenticate autopsy reports.)
  9. Great, could we have the paperwork and files left in the room?
  10. Greetings all, Was playing as a coroner for a little while today and realised fairly quickly stationary is very limited as is the office space in general in the morgue. I had to run outside to grab paper, I didn't have access to folders for individual cases (all important photo and report need to be kept together in my opinion.) The coroner can be a really interesting and in depth role when played properly I just think more needs to be available to the coroner.
  11. Just came across this on the steam page, totally flew under my radar but it looks awesome, cannot wait to get playing this. Firaxis has to be one of my favourite game developers at the moment, they aren't afraid not to stick with the mainstream audiences and will actually go out of their way to develop interesting and thinking mans games.
  12. I have had this happen before, as captain I had CentCom give me an objective. It did not go so well. People HATE being inconvenienced, and will flip the fuck out when it happens. Whats that? I can't just hang out in the bar, you want me to contribute something? BLAAARGH!! IM GONNA BREAK EVERYTHING FAKFAWNJLBFLAWNBJF!~!!1 Whats that? I can't make a clown mech with all this metal? You want me to use it to create mining mechs to help mine all the plasma CentCom wants? Better riot! Whats that? You want prisoners to go and mine? Better attack guards with pickaxes as soon as I pick one up. Whats that? You don't want me to run around and color the floor with crayons? Better depressurize the room. The round ended after spiders ate all the rioters. Good times. Another occasion I told the miners that we needed a certain amount of metal. They flipped the fuck out and tried to secede. I had to send in officers in riot gear to get them to do fuck all. To be fair that borders on admin involvement territory. It's one thing to refuse to do something (and have all your access revoked and be demoted down to civilian) but it's another entirely to start smashing up the place because you've been asked to do your damn job - I'd admin help that but that's just me. At the moment the station isn't even being remotely run as a station - if necessary add a Karma point to all non-antag crew members if station objectives are completed during a round - promote actual 'role playing' in truest sense of the word (i.e you picked a role and you did your damned job and got things done.) Just my opinion.
  13. I believe there needs to be a little more 'focus' in the rounds to give people not only something to do before the sh*ite hits the fan but to also to encourage people to learn their chosen roles. My fix for this would be to have a Cent-Comm station function as a Cent-Comm station until things go horribly wrong, have station wide objectives - give event GM's something to do. It's been brought up before and I'm bringing it up again.
  14. Metallic Monks - Fallout. One of my favourite pieces from a game, I find it very calming.
  15. Well bodies are often delivered with their ID cards intact along with uniforms - I've had command bodies delivered to me with all of their equipment left intact. Pretty easy to get ahold of items from said corpses plus out in the real world Coroners are fairly responsible people, it could be seen as an 'elite medical role.'
  16. The morgue just seems to be an area of the game that gets ignored or is poorly executed when used. In rounds where the brown stuff really hits the fan bodies generally pile up.
  17. Coroner/Mortician Karma Role StreakyHaddock mentioned this last week however the suggestion was lost with the server wipe/roll-back. Anyhow, just had a round where the bodies really did start to pile up, I was playing my usual surgeon role and ended up more or less operating the Morgue, labelling the bodies, ensuring correct storage, autopsies ect (personal note here but for future reference if you're medical staff AT THE VERY LEAST ensure the bodies are put within a body bag, don't just put them direct on a slab to decompose... This really irritates me for some reason.) At one point we just seemed to be dealing with the dead and corpses, then the chaplain ended up getting fried in the chapel whilst trying to dispose of the bodies I had already processed! It was all very stressful... Basic job of the Coroner would be to maintain the morgue, ensure bodies are stored correctly, perform autopsies to determine a course of death at the request of command staff, Security Personnel and last but by no means least the detective. Their primary purpose will be one of forensic investigation, much like the detective their role will be vital into determining the cause of a persons death (if at all possible with the broken/buggy nature of the autopsy scanner.) Bottom-line is there always seems to be something going off to merit the role, in most rounds corpses come in thick and fast so this would really add a bit of depth to the game. As always please share your thoughts and opinions and thanks again for reading, -Radish
  18. Here was my similar suggestion a few months back. I honestly believe this style of round should be the norm with admins adding antags as and when, there should ALWAYS be objectives from Cent-Comm to keep the crew motivated and working together, with Karma incentives to get this things done for various departments (I quite like that idea - miners have a raw deal when it comes to Karma since they're pretty isolated.) Again I support this suggestion 110%, the game shouldn't be about waiting for the station to go to hell, it should be about people carrying out their roles to the best of their ability.
  19. I suggested something similar a few months back and to be honest these rounds *should* be the norm with perhaps admins adding antags as and when. Every department should have a set objective, research and mining especially. Cargo should have to ship various ore and equipment back to cent-comm. These should be standard objectives with perhaps the odd special objective thrown in for good measure i.e "Due to a mining accident on the Terra-Prime facility Cent-Comm are requesting you dispatch three additional Ripley Units." It'd be great to have the station function as a station with everyone working together as best they can.
  20. Not a massive fan of anime to be honest, I find that while their concepts and underlying plots are GOOD and often imaginative there is often a sense of 'silliness' that ruins a good story. As an example I really quite enjoyed the themes within 'Elfen Lied' - the opening to the first episode is one of the best openings i've seen in modern media, it however quickly degenerates as a series into stereotypical anime fashion with overly sexualised dialogue/scenes (which makes little sense in the context of the show) and also there's plenty of just awkward stupidity in alot of scenes, characters themselves turn into one-dimensional stereotypes. That being said the themes of that series were generally good, brutality, loss, genocide, moral ambiguity ect, the good story however was ruined because Anime simply seems unable to take itself seriously (sexual themes aren't handled in an adult fashion, in one laughably awkward scene a female scientist talks about coming on her period... randomly... on the phone to her boss... Just what was the point? Distasteful at best.) I recommend watching the first episode if anyone is interested, it's very, very compelling (warning, strong violence and nudity.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8XpTz8mviM
  21. Cheers Rum, That means something man! But seriously the whole random name thing for Vox is idiotic, that really should change. Mods? Any chance of this happening?
  22. Five minutes is a long time in SS13. A minute is more sensible.
  23. Are we going to have a list of upcoming medals/commendation types?
