  1. Because cryonics is a blind gamble and not everyone has insurance willing to pay for a blind gamble.

Everyone will eventually die, even the universe will inevitably cease being what we know it is and the next one could have completely different laws than our current. Its just a fact of well existing.

Even if I could prolong my life I wouldn't want to for these reasons.

    A) There's no guarantee I'm coming back. Technology does advance and they could bring me back to cure me of whatever it is I'm suffering from but its also just as likely for a meteor to strike the Earth and for everything to be wiped out. Or more plausibly since I'm putting my now suspended life in other people's hands, human error could end up screwing me over in an interesting and horrifying way.

    B) If I was able to come back and be cured/continue living everything I know will be different. My knowledge will be horrendously antiquated, all the people I know or care about will be dead and gone if they haven't undergone the process themselves. The diet and food consumption may be entirely different and be inedible to me (Remember hundreds of years ago people ate food with trace amounts of poo. Hygiene was very different back then.) And even if in the incredibly lucky off chance my country is still around when I come back I will have little to no money with which to establish myself with. Can't get even the most basic of jobs if I'm unable to understand even the most basic of things provided by decades if not centuries of technological advancement.

    C) No guarantee the things I do for recreation would persist. For all I know even the most basic of recreational activities will cease when I wake up and hell even humanity's approach to reproduction may take a more clinical turn instead of the classic insertions. That kinda puts a massive damper on the idea of visiting the future.

So yeah, not exactly the most ideal thing. In fact I would rate it even worse than having innate immortality where my genetic code didn't degrade over time since at least with innate immortality I'd be able to learn as time progressed and wouldn't be quite literally a babe amongst adults, who bonus, have no obligation to teach your dumb ass a single thing.

  2. Welcome to Paradise Kylah, where work is a privilege. Your shift may be quiet and uneventful, or you may be the unlucky target of the Syndicate, a group comprised of companies that wish to see your bosses fail. But that's not all! Your very identity could be stolen by a creature that collects DNA, your soul devoured by vengeful ghosts, or even offered up to a blood thirsty god that lurks behind the veil of Bluespace. Vampires can steal your blood or creatures of Shadow could steal your very mind and make you a mindless thrall for their nefarious purposes. Lets not forget the Wizards either, who have a bone to pick with the Mega Corporation known as NanoTrasen.

Last but not least the ever present eye of Central Command, who at times can benevolently save their assets or with the flick of a pen write you off as too costly to recover.

Its all in a day's work on Cyberiad.

As a new player make sure you familiarize yourself with our rules so you don't end up breaking any of them.

There are many fun adventures in your future, its just all what you make of the cards dealt to you during your shift. Have fun and welcome!

  3. I saw many of these suggestions and definitely will implement some as well as some more tweaks of my own next time I bring the Congress event out. If the rounds were longer I would invest in a proper election for the representatives of each Department however as it stands its simply not feasible.

I can promise that the next Congressional Room will have more space and have the option to be quite a bit less noisy than the previous one.

As for people saying that its only fun for the participants. There's nothing stopping from them contacting the representative to have them try to push a bill through for them. Either through bribery or coercion. Really, just have to use a bit of imagination on what to do with this. Similarly Robert is a good example of someone not a Representative participating and really making use of the power that Congress was given, even if his motion didn't pass.

  4. May want to discuss it with the Head Administrators and Maintainers before you commit seriously to a project like this. Wouldn't want to sink a bunch of time into a feature that'll never see the light of day.

Ironically, I'm actually looking into learning coding. Thing is, I'll be starting pretty much from scratch. I'll probably need a few tutorials to watch and some time to learn the code.

Start with something smaller, like adding items or fixing small bugs in the game. Build up to a project like this that will require a great deal of work to make it from scratch. That way you'll get experience in learning to code and finding out what the maintainers and coders we have on staff look for in PRs.

Then when the time comes and you've gained experience, you can pitch your idea to the Heads and Maints, who by then would have a better idea on your ability and how well you work which works better in your favor to make a larger project a reality.

  6. You're more than welcome to talk to the maintainers about the project and try to code it yourself. Otherwise don't expect such a system to come to light any time in the foreseeable future. Just off the top of my head I can list a few reasons why it would be a rather complex project that would require a lot of dedication for completion.

    • How would this affect IPCs who aren't flesh and blood and made of metal. If only organics are affected how do we balance it so that they're not given an unintentional buff?
    • How would this affect species that have unique organs? ex: Neither Diona nor Slime have livers that you can punch for the unique effect.
    • How would this alter the balance of combat in general? Would it be more advantageous to target specific areas and would the effects be abused to give unfair advantage?
    • Would the effects remain if the organs in question were removed from the mob or are the effects intricately tied to them?
    • How would this be implemented if the mob has cybernetic organs instead of organic ones?
  7. After getting use to being short and fluffier or more scaly?

Well if I'm fluffier probably develop a drinking habit while perpetually screaming at you all over comms while hoping an SOO is on duty to sort out wherever the hell we draw our ERT from. Praying there are no terrors or xenos, while spending my downtime practicing how to shoot to defend myself against the madmen that go on a murderous rampage at the end of their workday.

If I'm more scaly, I'd quit NT and use the millions I won at the slots to never work again. NT's bureaucracy has nothing on my paperwork skills and no contract is entirely air tight.

Still if we look in real life you notice survival instinct kick in and this might cause for unappreciated reactions.

This isn't real life this is a game. If you die in game the penalty is sitting out until you're revived or the round ends. The penalty for dying in real life is much more permanent. You can't equate the two and point to survival instincts. Even if we do apply it survival instinct covers both fight and FLIGHT. Nobody has ever got in trouble from running away from a fight in the interest of preserving their lives.

Even someone having a bad day letting of steam here will let their emotions out of controle

If you're having a bad day and that leads you to breaking the rules, you shouldn't be playing a very social game on a bad day. Just because you're having a rough time doesn't give you a free pass to be an asshole to someone else and give them a bad day as well. I have bad days myself and sometimes I play the game, doesn't mean I'm about to take it out on someone who isn't even associated with what made my day bad just because they've done something that may have impacted my fun. If I'm not having fun after playing for a while, I stop playing. Simple as that. No reason to play if I'm not having fun and potentially ruin the fun for others with my sour mood.

I was thinking in the matter is it possible to find out a way when things get to heated and mistakes are every where how do you help the station to calm the flames around you in a more ic manner.

A lot of what you're describing are OOC issues that IC issues aren't really going to resolve. Either there's IC issues that should be resolved ICly or OOC issues that will be resolved by staff if it becomes a problem. They don't really overlap where you can resolve something happening OOCly with IC actions.

    3 minutes ago, robveelben said:

true. But then again if the entire station gets to heated how do you calm it down when your in command sec or any other role that tries its best to keep the order.

Being a good leader, being a kind and empathetic individual usually helps. Building a reputation of being someone who can be relied on and trusted does wonders. I played IAA for a long time and that role relies very heavily on your character's reputation for being able to get things done, be trusted, and knowing what the hell they're doing and suppose to be doing since you literally have no power. The same goes for Command roles. You build a reputation for being a member of Command who can be relied on and trusted and the veterans will follow you and the newbies will look up to you as a role model. There's no instant solution to this. Show good qualities as a leader and set yourself as an example, the others will listen more willingly and help you.

  9. Simple: You are responsible for your actions, regardless of what the cause may be. Whether it is in the heat of the moment or calculated beforehand.

If you get angry at someone and do something that would break the rules, that's on you. That's an anger issue that you need to resolve and something the community can't and isn't obligated to assist you with. If someone disarms you and your first reaction is to beat their face in until they're bleeding and dying on the floor, once again that's on you. You took things too far and you need to know when a series of actions is inappropriate for the action that was done against you. Mistakes will be made and staff can discern when that happens. We are willing to speak and work with players to ensure that it doesn't happen in the future, however you only get so many mistakes before it becomes an issue that cannot be let go.

The mentality of eye for an eye is a terrible one to have. Seeking revenge on someone for their transgressions against you won't lead you to happiness or fulfillment and only serves to propagate the misery that had started it, making you a further part of the problem instead of the solution.

The solution is quite simple. If players have these issues they need to look at themselves and see what they need to do to be better individuals so that they don't end up warned or banned. Its tough to do but really is the only viable one since the alternative is going to lead you to have future issues and potentially not being welcome on some servers.

  10. Your story and insights show me you'll grow into an outstanding Head of Security.

Keep up the good work and remember that a good HoS isn't necessarily one that robusts all the antags, its one who can keep the Security Team from being Shitcurity and does his best to uphold Space Law fairly.

I like the idea of IB leading to septic wounds instead of blood coughing, unless its a middle/lower torso wound where such a blood cough would make sense.

My guess is to be an indicator you have IB. If for instance you receive IB and it goes into septic wounds instead of coughing, there's no indicator of it until it reaches the septic state making it more of a silent killer.

If I'm remembering correctly, internal bleeding doesn't provide chat prompts and there's no obvious sign of it with using examine. So if you manage to acquire it, you wouldn't know something is wrong until you start getting chat prompts from lack of blood.

  12. I like some of the idea however a few points I'd like to make.

    • Unlimited talisman use or talisman use in spell form should cost some blood each time its used since blood is needed to make them originally.
    • Aside from a minor regeneration, I feel they don't need x-ray vision, arcane bolts, or strong resistance to stuns, same with the binding a slaughter demon to them. They're going to be exceptionally powerful already with the talismans and ability to perform most if not all but the summon god ritual by themselves.

Yes super antagonists are over powered but there is still the possibility of killing or overcoming them, if you throw in too many perks you're going to make an antagonist that's so powerful no matter how admins play them it isn't going to be a fun time for the crew because its just way too difficult of an obstacle for them to overcome. If you add all these things together, I'd have to literally play this guy passively and wouldn't have an option to be aggressive since I'd wipe out pretty much anything I came across or would be able to easily retreat even if I'm surrounded, not that I ever would be since I'd be able to see through walls.

  13. The first suggestion isn't a terrible one. Something I do, and this happens often, is I note down the individuals who I want to award karma but was unable to do so, so that I can do so in other rounds since there are some rounds I feel that nobody really earned my karma.

Second suggestion is a no-go in my opinion. Karma is meant to be a reward for individuals from player to player and this makes it less of a reward and more of a farmed resource. Nothing encourages the individual to do the job with the objective well, it only encourages them to do the job until the objective is complete.

All in all, the karma system isn't perfect but it does work. I myself can go a very long period of time without receiving a single point if only because I play roles that have little interaction sometimes and really dislike playing antagonist roles so you can imagine it doesn't rain on me like a metaphorical monsoon. However I've earned a nice chunk over the year I've played, enough to unlock what I want from the shop. So it isn't impossible to earn enough to get goodies, it just takes a bit of time and patience.

I'm not sure how I could prove my case, but even that doesn't really deal with the idea that giving miners the opportunity to become overpowered killing machines without the restrictions and duties of being security has not resulted in a good play experience for me at least.

Its not up to you to prove definitively whether someone is breaking the rules or not. The point of alerting us is so you draw our attention to them so WE can investigate whether or not your concerns are valid.

At worst, you worried over nothing and everyone moves along just fine. Otherwise you could aid in us catching rule breakers just by alerting us to something fishy going down.
