  1. I'm against because it doesn't seem at all fun for really anyone. Need to assassinate a few targets? Buy the Death Note, jot their names down, easy peasy. Heart attacks are easily treated if medical personnel know what they're doing and the individual is actually in Medbay, if they're say out in lavaland then they're pretty much screwed. There's also really no risk involved in using this item along with it being a near guaranteed kill as heart attacks are surprisingly lethal and for good reason.

    So yeah, agreeing with Spark. This isn't interesting, only serves to be an anime reference, and it needs to bring more to the table than that if you want support for it.

    I'd come out of retirement just to shoot this idea down if anyone even took it seriously.

    Before I turned grey I had an event with my Syndicate Intern in which a crew botanist with 100+ Killer Tomatoes made it a literal headache for me to do anything and that was using everything at my disposal short of a mass delete command. They're stupidly overpowered in numbers and can easily take out any mech (especially since they took out two dark gygax) if the poor thing gets surrounded.

  3. Antags already have it hard enough. This just makes the entire idea of being one completely unfun.

    Between Security and a Station out for blood, they'd be screwed 9/10 times by the auto-last message feature you're proposing.

    While it does make a little sense and is kinda interesting, gotta ask in what way would this be fun?

  4. Right so... I've got good news and bad news for you.

    The good news is that this sounds very interesting and I wouldn't mind seeing it myself, if only as a test run.

    The bad news, what you think would be simple is actually a pain in the ass code/mapping wise and unless you're volunteering to do it yourself I doubt we'll ever see it come to fruition.

    Advice: Learn to code and to map.

  5. Its not about metagaming and more about there should be no guarantee or favoritism. The opposite could be said about someone who is new to the game and finds this role and wants to play the ghost role. They're new and won't be as quick to click on the prompt as more veteran players, regardless if either observed from the beginning or if they died, the newbie gets the short end of the stick all the time since they won't nearly be as fast as the veteran.

    If someone is sore because of this, they're playing the game with the wrong reason in mind. Joining with the expectation of getting the role and not getting it would be why they're sore. If it was a simple hope then they wouldn't care either way. This expectation is something I would like to see discouraged and the RNG factor does that wonderfully.

    As someone who observed a hell of a lot of rounds before I even became an administrator, you shouldn't go in with the mindset of 'I'll get that special role' when you do. I used observation when I didn't feel like playing but I wanted to watch and see what was going on, chat with other observers, and just have a good ol' time commentating on what went down.

    When I became a mentor, I'd frequently use it so that I could dedicate myself to answering questions and I wouldn't have to divide my time between playing and the job I had attained, which carried over when I became an admin.

    The long rambling point is, that observation isn't for special roles and you shouldn't expect one when you do observe. There isn't anything unfair about RNG and people who observe from round start because the mechanic was never intended just for special roles.

  7. Throwing my two cents in.

    Ethering someone trespassing, like the clown breaking in to Meachem, I not only find favorable but preferable over even disarming as it can quickly prevent escalation of the situation while keeping it non-violent.

    The caveat is the amount for me. 15u? Sure. It'll take a while to cycle but doesn't lock them out of the game entirely. Slamming someone into a sleeper and pumping them up to 80u? I'd bwoink you and ask why.

  8. As someone who has planned and run successful events I can honestly say this is a bad idea.

    Events don't have to be fun for absolutely everyone but they do have to offer the opportunity for fun to everyone. As Gaty stated above, this event will produce salt, encourage bad behavior, and only really provide fun for the few who mindlessly focus on combat.

    No dice sir. Try a different idea.

  9. Sorta siding with Neca on this one.

    Parole isn't going to tackle the Us vs Them mentality of antagonists and Security. The root of this issue goes a bit deeper and wider.

    An example, as a Magistrate with two brain cells and the fact that we don't restrict knowledge of antagonists I'm fully aware of the Syndicate and that some items are only obtainable via being a member of the syndicate. That leans heavily against the antagonist getting parole, especially if they don't turn themselves in or they've already committed a crime. There's simply no valid incentive ICly that wouldn't break suspension of disbelief completely for me to do so. So changing when I can hand out parole isn't really going to change how I hand it out based upon the factors of how my character would conduct themselves as a Magistrate and what they would feel would be in the best interest of the station and the actual law abiding crew.

    Another example is the display of the objectives at the end round. There's a sense of glory that's been praised among players to get green text and accomplish those objectives which drives antagonists not to complete them in interesting ways but to complete them as efficiently as possible. Sure there are players who will sometimes do interesting things with objectives or ask for something different from us but that's an outlier instead of the status quo. This is less incentive to increase role play and more incentive to min/max power game if anything. For the glory of having your name in the end credits with all that lovely green.

    These are just some things off the top of my head that actively works against what you're trying to encourage here and if not adjusted/outright changed will, I feel, render the parole change a moot point.

    This is going to a bit of a deep place.

    I'd want the ability to make myself and others feel happy.

    Not some kind of hazy euphoria but a gentle contentment that one feels from knowing that everything is all right and going awesome in life. The kind of happiness that gets people up and going to meet the world and spread it to others.

    I've lived with a lot of misery so those moments are very rare for me.

    The cliched part? The community. Everyone here has been quite friendly to me, for the most part, and really I have no complaints.

    The not so cliched part. The structured order of Paradise's rules. I've seen some other places and while they have their own rules and structure the chaos is a bit much for me with something as detailed as this game is. There's a bit of comfort to be had in order and while chaos can make us appreciate the comfort, too much can make us yearn for it all the more.

    Overwhelming. I actually stopped playing because at the time I didn't find the intricate level of interaction fun until it tickled my more creative side a month and a few rounds later.

    Otherwise it was stereotypical civilian except I wasn't a baldie. I think I spent half an hour setting up my character.

    Maybe? I'm doing it for a multitude of reasons but I don't see why other people shouldn't.

    As a member of staff I sometimes feel as if I'm a bit unapproachable for most players and I remember the feeling of intimidation talking to someone who could flick a finger and scoot me out of the community for the first time.

    So this is in an effort to make a better connection with the community I serve and to feel less scary to them and more friendly.

    Also I was chewing on this idea ever since the first year I finished as an Admin, now I'm quickly approaching year 2 and I've already pissed my 1000th post away on an appeal might as well let my hair down and do something silly.

    If I had to pick absolutely one occupation its Medical Chemist.

    I've always been fascinated with Chemistry and I'm amused and delighted by being able to mix various reagents together to make not only medicines but poisons. Med Chemistry in particular because there's something that feels wonderful about supplying an entire department with much needed medical supplies that fills me with warmth and accomplishment when I do it. Especially when I'm watching doctors actively distribute and use the medicines I've created. Nothing is quite like it.

    I prefer sweet or floral teas, greens and whites, along with classic iced tea with lemon. Unsweetened these days. (Which sadly means no more sweet teas.)
