What's the lore justification for having any path of plasma to supply tho. N2O and CO2 are ok, they'd have a purpose as fire suppressors, but having a prebuilt mechanism to cause a widespread uncontrolled fire...

There's really no convenient way to use them as fire supressor thou. Also risking flooding the entire station to prevent a fire somewhere is kinda insane. Toxins storage and mixing should have their own fire supression set up.

There probably isn't one.  The way a Nanotrasen space station is run is just insane in pretty much every aspect.  Having plasma that can be easily routed into the circulation is about on par with security that exclusively uses physical cards that can't be deactivated remotely if lost, and power generation that destroys the entire station if there is an accident.

Yes, that's exactly it, NT design choices have no plausible explanations.

  2. I mean, I think there are levels of meta here. If atmos are using mix for turbine a newbie tech could accidentally put the burn mix in supply quite easily if mix to supply pump is there, so there's IC justification for it, even if it's truly done for meta reasons. I usually don't take out mix to supply unless there's a confirmed treat thou, and doing more to prevent sabotage, like cutting cams, putting manual valves in everything, etc, is too meta for my tastes.

But we could make turbine to AI sat turned on in AI sat by default, so atmos can also sabotage AI by default so it's all fair. If AI metas atmos kill switch, atmos meta AI atmos control back.

  3. We would have no working kitchen less often and that would lead to more staff interaction with kitchen instead of just drinking chocolate (Do note that Necaladun puts removing food vending machines as "maybe" in his wishlist, this would need food to be more reliable supplied); we also would have no one cleaning the station less often; noob people in services would have someone to teach theirs jobs, and that would make their learning experience easier. Someone to coordinate service would lead to more interactions between the service department, as it is now, service radio is almost never used. It would also lead to easier interactions between departments and service, because now you have someone responsible to bug. If botany is ignoring science, they can bug service QM for plants. If cap or someone wants a special meal, he can bug service QM for it. If there's a disease spreading with bar cure, CMO can ask him to distribute the cure, instead of station relying on breaking into bar, or forming huge lines while the clueless barkeep doesn't know why all the sudden everyone is asking for orange juice.

As I said, service roles are the only ones without backup. If you need food and got no chef you're toast. If you need drinks and has no barkeep, you'll need to graytide in. If you want a ceremony for a dead friend and has no chaplain you out of luck, he'll rot in morgue instead. If your workstation is a mess and station have no janitor, it's gonna stay that way. No one's invested in keeping service department working, so it frequently does not work at all. I think in this case that if the job is important enough to be given a slot it's probably important enough to have senior staff as back up, and that's especially true for cook.

On a more personal note, as barkeep I find it appalling that my calls to botany to plant and send me sugarcane, or to chef to give me ice-cream goes unheard on service radio. I always must leave the bar and go ask personally, opening the bar to all kinds of greytidery, also if we got no chef, no deal. Pretty sure chef has the same problems if he wants to serve things with drinks. Service would be way better with someone to coordinate it.

  4. Service roles frequently are left abandoned due to AWL or dead personnel, and service is one of the worse departments for that to happen, because it has a high % of one slot jobs. Service personnel also frequently need some guidance regarding mechanics. While they are nominally under HoP, it can't step in in case of need, nor he can give guidance, because of other duties, and job so different that he frequently doesn’t have the knowledge himself.

Service department is alone in the station as a department without senior personnel to guide and step in in case of need.

More fluffywise, Service QM could also be the Ships Master of Ceremony, organizing events when appropriate, and receiving VIP guests, to make sure they are comfortable, have some nice food and drinks, and are provided adequate entertainment by Mime and Clown, and some interesting spiritual and intellectual conversations by Chaplain and Librarian.

I think this would really make the server better, but of course it would require some coding, the job itself should be no problem, but service would need a remap. Can't do the job myself, posting here to check if someone with more maping knowledge likes the idea and takes on the project, and to check if the other players and staff support the idea.

  5. A QM for service certainly shouldn't be a karma role. An inspector, doing something like an IAA could have thou.

Really think service should have a head more involved in their business. HoP simply can't handle managing service, and frequently you got kitchen or bar empty, it would be good to have someone to step in. Janitor is also a role that can die or stop working and leave the station in need, and could also use some guidance regarding space cleaner, science upgrades, etc. Lots of rounds botany could use someone to teach them too.

Also, if we make a service QM it should take not only kitchen, bar and botany, but the whole service department probably.

But honestly service QM and health inspector are different enough that I think they should be discussed separately, I’ll make a new topic.

(About the IAA and its relationship with health inspector, as IAA I spend lots of time making sure HoP is informed about how service is doing, and making sure everything is maned. But i really completely ignore how clean is the kitchen and this kind of stuff)

    Name them.

Take the identity of one of the heads.

Steal the Nuke and the nuke disk.

Seek fame as a thief by stealing lots of grand theft objects stealthly, but taunt sec by leaving a note, or a graffiti. If this don't get them to pay attention announce your thefts on comms.

Subvert the Ai with some interesting, but not too disruptive laws.

Produce some pda messages leading to confusion among command, or framing people for crimes if the RD is reading the logs.

Steal a fax machine and convince CC to send some bullshit ERT, like paranormal or janitorial. Or send caps some bullshit CC comms to fuck up with him. I once saw a cap convinced to assfax CC and getting gibbed by an antag with a fax machine. (he luckly was an IPC so he got brough back and demoted).

    The possibilities are endless.

  7. I'm happy to report that after some round wardening I've suffered my first prisoner robusting.

Mime was in perma for being an EoC, having murdered someone with a cane. I come to check on him, he's all bruised and bleeding. As he was SSD before, and was being compliant with requests, I thought I had not much to worry about. I drag him around with no response, and when I start to cuff him, he also does nothing. My assumption that he's afk grows stronger.

Suddenly he runs away and star shooting invisible bullets at me. I get a baton and close on him, but it's too late. I go down and drop the baton and cuffs, he baton me and cuff me while I ask for backup.

Officer come in and after some fight they get mime down in cuffs and he's dragged to medbay for treatment.

At least I learned important lessons about trust and Mimes.

  8. That fucking TAU was beyond believe, really wished sec had put him in perma with no radio while the normal brig was being fixed and forgot him there. CMO was also too soft on him. Sec wasted a lot of time with that prick. He also tried to kidnap someone after that, he and his buddy syringed gunned an officer and crowbared them resisting arrest, and his buddy suicided on being caught.

  9. So, I can't find anything in space law or SoP that says you need a head ok for borging. Robo SoP says you need consent from the borged, and thats all it states: "4. The Roboticist is not permitted to transfer personnel MMIs into Cyborgs without express written consent from the person in question. The consent form should be kept safe;"

  10. A new eng job title, the Hardsuit Warden is resposible to grand hardsuits to engies, and more importantly, take them back.

Harsuits from now on will broadcast their coordinates to the Hardsuit Tracking computer. And the track computer will also be able to lockdown hardsuits, trapping wearers on the floor immobilized.

Harsuit Warden has complete authority over hardsuits, including CE Harsuits. He spawns with an energy gun and can use lethal force to protect the hardsuits if necessary.

To implement this we will need some map changes to eng and atmos, So Hardsuit Storage is secure, and atmos and engies can access it and also some code changes to hardsuits, and the creation of the Hardsuit Tracking computer. And of course the coding of the job itself and some new sprites to give the Hardsuit Warden some bling. Maybe something like a sec mask with some new audio like 'WHO STOLE ALL HARDSUITS".

  11. They probably make the exclusive games cheaper than they would be otherwise. Also more competition in the distribution market will probably make games cheaper overall.

One thing I don't get is why companies don't just price discriminate between distribution platforms. If Steam takes a bigger cut just launch it with a higher price tag on steam. Those who value steams convenience over paying a little bit more can do it. Those who don't care that much can get the game cheaper on epic.

My guess is epic is offering some quite good deals and probably losing money to buy out exclusivity so they can get bootstrapped into a viable platform.

  12. Do note wiz has basically no objective and they usually charge the station and die in 5 min.

And i mean, if you want to do a gimmick and ignore your objective you already can, as long as you keep away from hijack only things. No one's gonna enforce that you try to green text.
