  1. Heya everyone, I’m GunDOS. Some of you will probably know me better as “Aurora”.

    This is a kinda sad day for me, I’ve spent a lot of time here on Paradise. It’s a server I love with all my heart, and a server which helped me get out of my darkest moments. Earlier today, I lost my adminship. For reasons that are well and truely my fault. So, I’m writing this as a kinda goodbye to all of you, it’s honestly just too painful to stay for the time being.

    I joined paradise a couple of years ago, I believe it was late 2014 or maybe early 2015 when I started playing often. I was going through a traumatic period in my life, and I was in a very dark place.  I played here for a good bit, with various characters. Then I started playing as an A.I. called “A.U.R.O.R.A.”, soon after I met a friend who very much helped me. One “Peppy-Bashline”. She gave me a group of friends I still have to this day, and made me realise I was actually worth something as a person. I played like this, until roughly late 2016 where I applied for mentor, and was accepted. This period, apart from some minor in comparison incidents. Were the happiest few months I had on this server, I played hours a day. I made so many great friends, and I helped a lot of people learn to love this game, the one I love so much. About this time last year, I applied for adminship. During a time of great upheaval in the staff, it was a time where there was a lot of politics going around, which I stuck myself right in the middle of. And, after that I just became more and more obsessed with the staff. Employing more and more of my free time into it, eventually all of my free time was made up of paradise, if not directly to do with it. Then with other tertiary projects surrounding it. I’ll say, I did have fun. But it made me a different person, I was unreasonable at times, brash and I made a number of enemies. It took my almost failing my admin trial, and good friends giving me a smack in the face, to realise why I applied to admin in the first place. But, I sadly never realised my arrogance until right now, looking back at my time as admin. This I deeply regret. I did so much, following my own desire of what I thought was “better for the players”.

    So, a few weeks ago, I made a big mistake, I lied to my fellow staff about something big. And it ate away at me, resulting with my admitting to what I did. I soon after, lost my adminship. I personally apologised to everyone it affected, but I had lost the trust of my fellows.  What happend was perfectly just, I’d have done the same in their place.  I want my meaning in that to be perfectly clear.

    I want to say I’m sorry to anyone I affected, I say that from the bottom of my heart.

    So, this is probably goodbye to a lot of you. I may come back, but I honestly don’t know. I feel very guilty, and I’m not sure I’m going to shake that.

    Thank you all for the lovely time you all gave me, it’s made my life better. And given me such happiness.

    If you can boink people for improper executions, you can boink them for unwarranted blowing (and already do.)

    You’re not gonna get much support from the staff, if a feature requires admin supervision to work. We’ve a lot to do every shift. Babysitting one more thing isn’t something anyone, especially myself likes.

    Don’t be afraid to try new jobs. Anyone who yells at you has forgotten that at one point in time they were new too. My suggestion is to pick a job and try it out! If you ever have any questions ask them! Either in Game or using mentorhelp!

    Pretty much this, be sure to check the wiki also. The wiki curators and wiki contributors work hard to keep it up to date and informative. If you see any issues with it, contact myself or shadybutts.

    I read wiki but sometimes it's out of date on some information and i find it more useful when people make guides on the forums

    It's perfectly up to date, last time I checked. We updated it when new-genetics was implemented.

    Plasmamen don't just start with a hardsuit,

    It’s a soft-suit, not a hardsuit. And you don’t get slowdown from those. Movement speed, is really not an advantage considering they can’t take the suits off. In addition, they also suffer slowdown if they somehow manage to don another suit other then the standard plasma one. As for heparin, you have a point. I forgot they had no blood.

    Plasmamen can be SR'd just like Slimes and Vox can, so reviving them isn't any harder than reviving those races. Easier, really, since you at least have the option to clone if you want it

    They still catch on fire when S.R’d. And you cannot always rely on S.R being instantly available, that is why we have all treatment options open at roundstart. I’ve said in my previous post why it’s inpractical to clone them.

    The main issue with allowing RnD to make plasmaman suits is you've just given access to hardsuits to science, and hardsuits is like the one thing science doesn't have. (Hence why plasmaman or vox are both great races for science powergaming antags) I believe other hardsuits can be used as alternative to plasmaman suits, but I'm not 100% on that

    I refer to the above point, it’s not a hardsuit. And other suits can be worn instead of the plasmaman suit, the issue is the new suit does not extinguish them. This effectively kills the plasmaman before they are extinguished when they remove their original suit, making such a suit-swap inpractical for a lone plasmaman. This can be solved by my “several second” fix I posited before. If you want an example of this, I suggest setting yourself on fire. And then trying to put yourself out without stopping-dropping-and-rolling. That’s a good simulation of what it’s like.

    As for your statement on powergaming antags. In my time here. I’ve seen plenty of Vox, but zero plasmaman successful antags. This however, is just my personal experience. So please take it with salt.

  6. Personally, as far as plasmaman go. They only have a couple defined positive features;

    A: They spawn with a spacesuit, and are space-proof. And due to the fact they wear helmets, are immune to gas/smoke.

    B: They serve as a status symbol for players who’ve racked up 100+ karma.

    As for negatives;

    A: They explode immediately on contact with air, meaning any antag can instantly kill them by stunning/stealing their helmet. This doubles as making the plasmaman uncloneable, as they will just burst into flames again on being ejected from the cloner. And due to the lack of helmet, can’t be extinguished.

    B: As antagonist changelings, if they change form they will catch on fire. And if you are not fast, you’ll die. As traitors they cannot change clothes, meaning once security disovers the bad guy is a plasmaman. Bye-bye stealth. As shadowlings, when they turn into the shadowling antags they eject their clothes, which has a high chance of killing them outright due to fire.

    C: If you die as a plasmaman, that’s it for you. Cloning is arguably impossible for them, unless you either have a highly competent experienced medical team. (You need two of them for the quick method). Or you need to be put in a new body, which at that point. Why not just make them uncloneable?

    My proposed solutions;

    A: Instead of the plasmaman going on fire instantly, make it take several seconds. This gives you a chance to both clone them properly. And for the plasmaman to react to their attacker.

    B: Instead of the plasma suit being an “exosuit” make it a jumpsuit and keeping the helmet as is. This lets you put items over it, allowing you to customise your plasmaman’s appearance somewhat. It also lets antags change clothes to preserve stealth.

    C: Either change how changeling transform works, or shadowling transform works. To only ejecting clothes at the very end. Or remove shadowling and changeling from the roster of what antags plasmamen can be.

    D: For the sake of synthetica, allow RnD to make the damn suits!

    TL;DR: Plasmamen suffer from a multitude of issues, and debuffs. With very little in the way of buffs bar “muh karma status”.

  7. Hey there @DaKittaX
    I had a chat with my fellow administrators and discovered I was wrong in this case, One of the first rounds I played on paradise I was bwoinked over the use of this word, I was under the impression "dogbeast" was netspeek. I'm sorry for causing you undue stress and the note I placed on your record will be removed. Super sorry!

  8. And, here we go. Thoughts people?

    1. The Gateway is only to be opened/used by authorization of the captain and research director. Violation of this is to be considered Major Trespassing (code 309) or Breaking an Entering (code 210) into a Restricted Area,  depending on circumstances;

    2. All weaponry/equipment brought through the Gateway is to be processed and catalogued by the Head of Security. All lethal weaponry and Syndicate equipment must be kept in the Secure Armory unless otherwise authorized by the Head of Security. Violation of this is to be considered code 300 Possession of Contraband.

    3. All personnel entering the Gateway are to be recorded by the Head of Personnel. The job title of  "Gateway Explorer" may be given to facilitate this. Violation of this is to be considered Major Trespassing code 309;

    4. In the event of serious biohazard being located beyond the Gateway (e.g Terror Spiders),  the Gateway is to be sealed and Command must decide whether or not to continue Gateway exploration,  via majority vote;

    5. In the event of a loss of contact with the Gateway exploration team, a rescue team is only to be sent with the written permission of the Captain, Head of Security and Research Director. The Nanotrasen Representative may veto this.

  9. Now we’re getting into SoP, which requires the heads of staff to agree to. I’ll say that considering gateway explorer is a makey-uppy job that any SoP written will almost certainly be more general, E.G gateway SoP

    SoP is always a big project. I’ll look into it.

  10. The gateway has no set procedure, it’s there on the station primarily for people who don’t want station jobs to do. It used to be that with xenoarch you could get artifacts and things from it but that’s gone, meaning the only role that uses the gateway is the “gateway explorer” and that’s an unofficial role made up by HoPs.

    To finish, I don’t see the need for a wiki page on the gateway until the time it becomes something more then an optional extra.
