Vote was tampered with (any which way you look at it) so the results can't be trusted. There was some legitimate discussion in the early pages, and everything seems to have been said. What's left now is wild accusations and ad hominem attacks. Locking this before it degenerates any further.

This thread is for the community to voice their opinions on this race, as it seems that this feature was not received as positively as other races. We look for feedback, constructive critique and the general point of view of the community, so helpful posts and comments are welcomed.

WARNING: This thread is to be taken seriously, and the discussion to be kept civil. Inflammatory language, hate-inducing comments, personal attacks, mean "jokes" or general smart-assery won't be tolerated and will result in posts deleted and forum warnings issued.

"and the deliberate attempt to ramrod this race through/avoid or otherwise minimize community scrutiny"

And please stop making conspiracy theories up. As we've explained in detail time and time again, this is a complete lie. The race was added just like any other PR. Get over it. I'm getting sick of you trying to create a new narrative, if you keep making blatant lies, you'll be forced to make them elsewhere than in this community.

  3. Make a dmi file with all the jackets properly listed with their directionals, and I'll merge in code sorta like the detective gun so that the sec pod pilot will be able to choose his jacket.

I think a lot of this discussion stems from misinformation as to the level of community involvement we allow in server and code decision. E.g. since I opened up the codebase to more community feedback, some people feel that they can now try to mob mentality the code. Unfortunately unlike for example the 'stun removal' discussion, this species discussion got tainted with bigotry really early on. At that point, community feedback becomes a lot less meaningful to us.

This has NEVER been a full democracy no matter the wishful thinking of a few players -- For those people still unhappy with the status quo, the codebase is open source, go start your own competing server with your own vision of how things should be done.

@ Ponies: Great, because I've coded a bunch of shit; I look forward to the merge and greater influence once I've found time to finish bug testing and QA.

From what I saw, the only things you PRed were ridiculous buffs to borgs that all got shot down. Not surprisingly, you pretty much only play borgs. This makes the PRs you've submitted as self-serving if not moreso than anything Fox has made. This invalidates the entirety of your accusations against him.

If someone's saying derogatory terms, please bash their head in with the deadliest object you can find.

Umm no. Don't encourage griefing. You ahelp it, and if there's no admins on you note the time and ckey and then you either make a player complaint (best) or forward the information to an admin once there is one available.

I'm sorry there wasn't any admin on to monitor the round, this happens once in a while. We try our best, but nobody can be active 24/7. All I can suggest is that if it's too much to take, don't play on Paradise when there's no admins on.

As far as language goes, racism, homophobia and bigotry are strictly forbidden and we have a zero tolerance policy regarding those. If an admin had been on, the wizard would have been punished.

This server and it's code design has never been a pure democracy. For a year and a half up to 6 months ago, players had NO input at ALL into design decisions. Since the advent of the maintainer system and my push to get community more involved in the process, we've gotten really good feedback on a range of issues.

    These are the Github rules:

Features are frozen a minimum of 24 hours before they get merged. If there's a lot of controversy in the comments, then the freeze lasts as long as it takes to resolve the issues and get a solid majority of maintainers, coders, staff and hopefully community on board. It is up to the community to follow the work being done on the Github. No we will not slow down our development process. No we will not order developers to work on specific features (other than cleaning up after themselves and the bugs they create).

If this system doesn't work for you, find a codebase like BS12 that has a much slower development pace. Or learn to code, contribute to the codebase and gain a greater voice in how we do things. At the end of the day if you're not contributing code, sprites, map edits or volunteering your time as staff you're a passive influence on this process. Your opinion will be listened to up to a point, but you're not directly sharing in the vision we have for this server and codebase.

A station with 50 borgs on it is boring. Removing free will from people is boring. The whole thing feels contrived and gamey to me. Just because 2 things are in the codebase doesn't mean they work well together. This one one of them.

A better solution, which I suggested in the previous PR, is a virus/disease that slowly converts your limbs into robolimbs, eventually turning you into an IPC. That's a much more realistic interpretation of nanobots as far as I'm concerned.

Anyways, that's my take on it.

  9. I don't intend for our main server to drop to LowRP. However it seems a lot of people are impatient and trying to think of drastic solutions to somehow magically fix the problems we do have. Server 2 would be a place for those people to go and remove the more mmm extreme voices from the slow and long-term process of bringing Paradise back up to medium RP. I think in the end, everyone will be happier.

  10. All servers with veterans suffer from metafriending. By moving our current metafriending problem (which typically involves players who have higher than average levels of RP anyways) over to the new server, it will 1. fix the issue on the primary server 2. Pass on the issue to admins who can/will be more attentive to it since ANYWAYS they will have to monitor against metaknowledge and what not.

  11.

If those regulars that want a more RP-experience would just POPULATE the 2nd server, it would work out fine. But people like to bitch and moan about their ArPees and when handed a perfect solution completely ignore it for the sake of the primary server.

Fuck playercaps. Put up a second medium/high RP instance of Paradise and get all the regulars who are unhappy with the current levels of RP to migrate there and STICK TO IT. Change the rules for that server to flip towards medium/high stuff (like not knowing about antags, shit like that). Get some more RP-focused admins to hang out there and provide their services.

It's really not that hard guys, and doesn't require tons of speshul code. The second server doesn't even have to be unlisted, it just needs stricter rules and the admins to enforce them. Oh and with summer upon us, populations will rise. So I don't think populating it will be a problem.
