  1. So, over the course of my time on the server, I grew dissatisfied with having to manually write up each template for every form of paperwork. And then it occurred to me to use the wiki to store some blank templates.

So, without further ado, I guide you towards my stash of paperwork. Feel free to snag them as you desire. They are also listed under the sample templates located elsewhere on the wiki.

  2. Because we need it.

Who are you, who do you play, and why do you follow the path of Synthetica?

I use both Hyperion and the Communist Canada Admiral R.A.S.P.O.U.T.I.N.E.. I've always been of the opinion of why play a human character in a game when I am a human in real life. When I first started playing, I saw lots and lots of IPCs, and pretty much fell in love with them. They continue to be my main species of choice.

  3. Ran another round tonight, except we used a queen, a white, a red and a purple to start. Gamma was also called earlier, as well as a code red ERT. The red ERT managed to win, thus granting the crew a win. A janitorial ERT was sent to clean, and I forced some swarmers in for the deadchat, as they were getting a little restless.

  4. As per the request of multiple people, I've done it with terror spiders now.

It went as badly as expected, with even more players waiting around while a deathsquad played hide and seek with spiders trying to find a nuke.

  5. What is a Xenomorph Shuttle?

The xenomorph shuttle was an event I put on, where a xenomorph queen, hunter, drone and sentinel were all spawned on the Central Command ferry, modified to be blank, with some thematic elements to redesign it in a more fitting style. Windows were removed, so the shuttle contents were to be a surprise. Unfortunately, during the run I had, the special airlocks allowed people to see right through them for some reason, and the surprise was blown away instantly.

Once the xenomorphs and shuttle were ready, I made a Central Command announcement about an out of control shuttle about to crash into the NSS Cyberiad. In this run, I had crashed it into the glass bridge in science maintenance. Once the crew had located and opened the shuttle, the xenomorphs were able to do as they pleased.

In the run that was done, a code Red ERT and a code Gamma ERT, as well as the Gamma Armoury, were called. After the defeat of the second ERT, I started a round restart vote, which resulted in a continue. Scrubmcnoob was to take a death squad in, and due to a server bug, ended up leading an army of death commandos into the fray, resulting in the nuke being detonated.

    Win Conditions

Should the crew terminate all the xenomorphs, the crew wins.

Should the xenomorphs spread and manage to kill everyone, the xenomorphs win a major victory.

Should the station nuclear fission device detonate, the xenomorphs win a minor victory.

  6. Oh dear, oh my, what have I stumbled across.

    1. Unfortunately, we are lacking in RP, in both Security and Antagonists. Is it unfortunate? Yes. Is it going to change overnight? No. Will it ever change? Prrrrrrobably not.
    2. If a character is known to be an antagonist, it's not unreasonable to have wary suspicion of them. In the case of Ares, people don't even bother trying to stop them at this point because, as pointed out by Kyet, they have proven they can disable and or eliminate everyone who tries to stop them.
    3. If you are becoming suspect of being an antag 24/7, it may be time to either start RNG naming yourself, or just cooperating with security/change your behaviour towards them. Alternatively, you may want to start running a character rotation. As pointed out above, if you have proven yourself robust multiple times, people are going to be wary of you.
    4. It is in brig procedures to stun/flash before removing cuffs. Expecting officers to do otherwise is wishful thinking.
    5. As pointed out earlier, Security and Antags both metagame. See point 1.
    6. As for the permabrig mecha HoS incident, look at it from Security's point of view. A perma prisoner is walking out of perma with a deceased Head of Security. It is very unlikely any tale you tell would be true. Not to mention that it would appear that you are actively trying to escape. Can't exactly blame them.
    7. IAA are a privileged, not a right. You could always try calling them over common comms instead of relying on your security overlords the officer who brigged you.
    8. Newbies are newbies. You won't escape them. Besides, everyone starts out somewhere.
    9. As for tase first, questions later: SoP does say to talk first, but 98 times out of 100, people are going to take that time you spend typing as a head start. When the crew doesn't cooperate, why should security.

I'm pretty sure I covered most things here. Now can we tone down on the salt/unfriendliness? You are expected to act civil on the forums.

  7. First off, love the title. It implies you have implicit knowedge of the staff chat, specifically that that we have regarding PRs. Which, unless out are an admin parading around in a disguise, you don't.

Secondly, not everything is a clear cut yes and no. In regards to Norgad's PR, it is a discussion of aesthetic and functionality, like the one part of maintenance that is literally connected by 4 panes of glass in two hallways. Sure, it's cool, but why glass. The staff have requested changes, and from what I understand, these changes keep being fought. Part of that issue is maintainers, but the other part is the creator not cooperating with the requested changes.

In regards to the sprites, a party not wishing to be named and who does spriting for a living, contacted the maintainers about the shading, and how it actually affected the quality of the models. Naturally,  this affected the animations of said sprites and, all in all, would be a downgrade in the long run.

And back to long PR times. Depending on how many files are changed, it could either be a quick PR or not. If it changes the map in a semi major way, you need to wait for the special token to do so. And it also boils down to the availability of the maintainers. Remember, staff aren't just machines. We have lives and other commitments. This is something we do with our spare time,  not our life's work. We don't get paid to do this.

As I close off this series of statements, I am going to finish with what I always seem to have to say: just because something isn't made public doesn't mean it's not happening.

  8. As for my advice, I suggest paperwork. It's easy to use and keep track of. Use your judgement, and don't hire yet another clown. Fax Central Command if someone is requesting a karma job, such as blueshield or mechanic. Ask heads if they need more staff.

    Shameless plug to paperwork here.

And do note, as a non antag, it is griefing if you open multiple clown slots.
