add one or two ''tick'' thingies in the brig

 

what it does is LATCH PAINFULLY on the testee and injure him/her in the process...while looking for body parts exclusive to the changeling and testing the blood...after a while it falls off and prints out the results and if its a ling it also says what abilities it has active and how many victims he has husked.

 

you need the item itself which is in limited in supply but can be used infinitely to test people, so no mass testing.

 

also its super painful and injures the guy being tested from a scar to a pretty big flesh wound. painkillers are adviced.

 

i have no idea what im doing here.

How about:

 

Lings don't take fire damage?

 

It gives lings a bit of a buff (but not to a huge extent), and replaces the test with something that will injure heavily if falsely tested.

 

That would plain destroy the balance of lings.

Fire damage is the primary way to kill lings, via the Incinerator, Crematorium, or a hail of laser rifle fire. This would leave only decapitation to permanently kill one.

The crematorium doesn't deal fire damage, the incinerator can't actually make lings unable to regen (besides pressure popping the head off), and have you even considered the fact that it would encourage lings to burn the entire station to the ground for 'lulz', then calmly walk around and eat all the burning corpses? This is not a 'bit of a buff', it's a huge disbalance to the entire game, not to mention the absolutely atrocious snowflake code it would require.

 

TL:DR; Lings not taking fire damage? No.

What if instead of making it harder to test lings, we just make it less perfect. What if you could get false positives?

 

Like, if you're stung by a ling, then for like... ten minutes or so, you'll test positive for ling-ness. They leave enzymes in your blood that make it react the same way that theirs does, but those wear off after a small but significant amount of time.

 

This means that security can't just instantly kill someone who tests positive, because they might be an innocent victim. Instead, they have to hold onto them for a while and confirm the diagnosis. This gives lings a better chance of escape, gives them a way to throw off their pursuers, and also reinforces that healthy paranoia we all know and love, because if you're not a ling, and you test positive, then you have definitely been near someone who is.

we could have the tests have percentages in it, and it will never be 100%...

then make it so that the longer the test has taken the more accurate the percentage is to a cap.

Honestly, I think ling tests need to get less accurate, not more accurate. Currently if an unlucky ling gets brigged for a minor crime on a ling round, chances are they'll be tested and intermediately executed.

->Stun, handcuff, weld subject in a locker.

->Throw the locker into the singularity.

->Wait a minute or two.

->You got BWOINKed? He was innocent. Better luck next time, but on another server.

->No BWOINKs? That guy was a ling. ALL HAIL LORD SINGULOTH!!

 

100% guaranteed effectivity.

 

Also I like that after-sting effect thingy. It would cause more people to buy the cheap "useless" stings I bet.

we should focus on these:

*the test hurts the suspect and does a great deal of pain so people are less likely to accept the test for a stupid reason like disarming a security officer

*instead of a straight yes or no it just gives you a estimate, maybe a estimate based on how many victims the ling has husked or how much stuff the ling has stinged

*only two testing devices are availible but can be used infinitely, so its impossible to test every person you see

*the test takes a while...

 

and maybe give the ling a starting ability to be able to sting anyone with false lingblood to throw off security.
