Standard Cyborg

This idea is essentially Making the Standard Cyborg a sort of Jack of all trades Giving them two upgrade slots where a cyborg upgrade can be created

Standard Engineering:

Completes the Toolset that the Standard Cyborg has, gives them floor tiles, and Rods, letting them fix minor breaches, but no walls

Standard Medical:

Gives them a Hypospray of some kind, perhaps Inferior, and upgrades the medical Scanner

Standard Security:

Gives them Zipties and Security tape

Just In general:

Can we add soap to the Standard cyborg?

I don't understand this suggestion.

if you want to be a mediborg, use the medical module, etc.

Standard borgs aren't really meant to be useful, it's just there.

the point of this would be to make them an actual sort of jack of all trades, able to upgrade themselves to be useable, albeit worse than a specialized cyborg. For example.

Medical Cyborgs can do surgery, revive the dead with defibs, have carts, and things of that nature. A circuit for the standard would essentially give the standard cyborg the ability to do basic healing, by giving it a hypospray of some kind, and upgrading its existing scanner. The part that makes it a jack of all trades, is it would have that basic healing, and able to have another upgrade, such as engineering, which would complete its tool set, and give it metal rods and floor tiles to fix minor damage to the station, while the engineering cyborg can do so much more, and actually construct as well as repair.

The point of it is to make a standard cyborg actually considerable to take, rather then just a joke useless cyborg, I mean the service borg has more useful applications in comparison.

I think this is a very bad idea.......BUTT!!!

i think that all borgs that come from the Rogue AI borging machine should come out like this.

But they also should have some really easy to notice neon sprite so when you see them you know shit hit the fan.

As for if it should be in just as a standard borg ? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

theres already enough salting about the sec borgos being too OP. If this was a thing nobody would even pick sec borgs since here you have a stun baton + energy sword if emmaged.

Sec borgs get laser guns when Emagged I believe, and as for the sec, they already have stun batons, this would just be adding an option so the standard borg doesnt just stun someone over and over while dragging them to security. Sec borgs have disablers, which are ranged and with just 2-3 shots can essentially take down the average person to walking speed, which makes it next to impossible to escape. Also, they would need boards installed into them, so a robotosist would have to actually print it out, meaning it really wouldnt be all that useful for a rogue AI borg.

As a start, security borgs can get lethals either when it is emagged. Or an illegal module is installed. The latter is quite common for robotics to have at around 30 minutes.

Now, as for standard borgs. Personally, I think they are fine as is, diversifying standard borgs with lots of modules makes them very powerful in my mind. As @Spacemanspark said, "if you want to be a mediborg, use the medical module, etc." making a standard borg a jack of all trades is a little much. And if this was added, I would certainly feel that people would pick these borgs over their specialised brethren.

As for soap, I'm personally for that!

The problem with saying that people would choose this over any other, is that Im not sure they would. Engineering borgs would be able to do so much more, as they can create chairs, tables, walls, repair major breaches, create APC's, while the standard upgrade would just complete the toolbelt and give them MINOR repair abilities, Medical borgs can use Defibs, do surgery, create rollerbeds, fix othercyborgs, most effective killing machine non emagged, and the med standard upgrade would upgrade the scanner they have and give them Basic healing capeabilties. Security Borgs have disablers, which can be used at a range, letting you chase down people much easier, and they have universal recorders for damning evidence. The Standard cyborg already has a stun baton, with this I actually propose we remove the stun baton, and give it to him with the sec upgrade, also gifting them zipties.

For the Standard Cyborg, I'd be fine with a Epinephrine-Only Hypospray and an upgraded Health Analyser. They can determine the problem, stabilize the patient, but they can't treat them (without dragging them into Medical machinery), nor can they create a roller bed like they Medical Borg. This would keep them separated from the Medical Cyborg which can heal and mend people.  Soap would allow the Standard Cyborg to do something in their past time, which is something the current model really lacks besides thinking why they chose Standard.

The Standard Cyborg already has Standard Security equipment, a Stun Baton. My huge problem is you're suggesting a Synthetic with full range of tools, a stun weapon, and the capability to restrain others. On top of it, the suggestion for Security Tape, what is the real reasoning behind this? If the borg is getting Sec Tape, and is supposed to cover as a Jack Of All Trades, why Sec Tape? If zipties are added, the Stun Baton probably should be removed to compensate.

The complete tool-set is a point which probably makes people uncomfortable being that the borg is honestly made to work with Traitor Roboticists and Rogue AI, being the obvious Stun Baton + E-sword duo. What pazneria12 is recommending almost mirrors https://tgstation13.org/wiki/Cyborg#Standard, which would be a honest improvement over what we currently have. Though if a tool-set isn't provided besides the Wrench+Crowbar, at least give the Standard Cyborg a unique function. I'd gives my own personal suggestions, but I don't want to derail the thread.

My question is, if the Standard Cyborg is meant to have zero viability as a non-antagonist, why is the Standard Cyborg even in selection? It's obvious it isn't cared for or considered in any situation. Being that the Standard Cyborg still has a flashlight despite all other borgs getting theirs removed, they aren't even touched with other cyborgs get updates or overhauls.

It's already a jack of all trades. If you want to do something department wise, you pick that departmental module. There's not really a point in buffing or nerfing it.

Spark, Im sorry but I dont understand what you just said. The standard cyborg is already the jack of all trades, if you want to choose something, be something else? or am I misreading this to lack of sleep.

Edit: Hang on, do you mean that the standard cyborg already IS a jack of all trades? If so, I have to disagree with you, its the reverse in my opinion, it is the master of nothing, able to do what its best at. Its the Antag module if you want an Esword, thats about all I can think of use wise. Also with what Teryan said, I was just thinking of how to balance the sec borg, but yah, removing it and giving it zipties would work, as I had forgotten that flashes were a thing, not very useful, but it can distract someone for a moment.

I don't think a borg should be a jack of all trades.  Borgs are generally better at doing the thing they are designed to do than organics are.  The trade off is they can't do anything else.
