  1. So... I was playing around with a pda server I found in a super secret location...

I sent the captain a pda message pretending to be a CC Officer concerning details about a surprise visit. After this, I sent him a message from the NT Rep Sihsse Zsak (by simply putting in his name/title, etc) and I just let the magic happen. The first message at the top is from me, the rest after that is from the rep himself.

  2. Somewhere in deep space, three Unathi are at the mercy of a twisted admeme nukie...

This was a fun round... Rsik (me) had gone out exploring sector 9 with Emerson Hawker. We found the old unathi gas chamber ruin... pretty grim stuff. Emerson said he was going to stay behind and have a long snooze (ssd). Warned him against it, but he insisted. He ended up putting on a straight jacket (don't ask) and going to sleep. Off I go on my merry space adventures, although I said I'd check up on him later.

Sometime later in the round, I receive this rather mysterious message...

    Untitled.jpg.a6020594b4b8fdfc5ce97e8c814a0fa1.jpg

I had a sense of dread that something bad had happened to Emerson... I fly back out and I notice that suddenly there is power to the place. The airlocks are bolted, but even more alarming is the syndicate pod parked outside...

Unable to open the airlock, I rush back to get a multitool, and enlist the aid of Slith and Asrair after saying over coms that I think Emerson is in trouble.

All three of us ready and in two pods between us, we rush back out. When we get there, there is a lizard skin outside the airlock that wasn't there before...

Atmos has its fun with us as we attempt to get inside, as we do, we see a Syndicate Nuclear Operative sitting calmly behind a desk, a Tajarra called Kesrin Hadii. He wasn't holding Emerson captive, but he found it funny all the same to play mind tricks with us. Emerson was awake at this stage, and we fetch him, bringing him back to the station. Slith decided to stay behind however... After dropping off Asrair, myself and Emerson headed back to pick up Slith.

This is where things go a bit wrong... Turns out Slith was a bit silly and tried to slip up the nukie. He got himself put in a straight jacket. That's when we all suddenly started to get a bit brave thinking we could robust this operative... Slith grabbed him on the sly, while I slapped a pair of cuffs on him. Unfortunately he had a freedom implant, soon as he was loose, he started shooting disablers at everyone. I took out my retro laser, pew pew... I managed to catch the operative with a few hits but I go down after a few exchanges of lethal fire.

And that's how we all became prisoners of a unathi hating kitty...

Cheers to Guilty for making that a fun round!

  3. Love the idea.

Round start only, and have it cost higher karma, probably around 15-25 or so.

I think language like "they wouldn't not be given a license to grief and under normal circumstances attacking Crew or Security would only be when such an action could result in their freedom." Too vague and open to interpretation, leading to the role being abused as a mini-antag. Simply have them obey normal crew rules, which basically means they can still try to break out of perma, etc, along with stealing ID's and such, no more different than say greytiding for example.

Definitely sounds like a good idea. Also encourages the warden in performing their duties on extended rounds, since perma is often empty on such rounds. Well, sometimes at least...

I do hope this gets implemented and doesn't get forgotten about.

Having them spawn with a 'notice' from cc telling/informing them of their rights (which they have none) along with general SOP concerning their status on the station could help avoid confusion with the role as well.

Another idea is to include them into traitor objectives. A traitor might be tasked with freeing the convict from perma for example.

  4. An 'exodus' event would be cool. CC makes a report that the station will be uninhabitable at such a time due to (insert reason). Thus, the crew are highly encouraged to vacate the station. Meanwhile, traitors are given objectives to sabotage all efforts of the crew in building up this new station.

    Key/Essential roles:

Mechanic - required to build the pods to aid in people travelling to this sector, with designated 'cabbie drivers' ferrying people to and from.

Engineering - Good engineering team required to aid in the construction of this new station.

    Important Roles:

Science - Focus on getting teleporter capability to efficiently and quickly teleport folks over onto the new station.

Security - Will need to have a presence on both stations to ensure compliance with the law. A suggestion would be to have sec borgs on the construction station for the start of the exodus (cuts down on eva incidents).

Other possible additions to the event: Engineering are forbidden from setting up the engine since they won't have time or manpower to maintain/guard it. As such, power will become an issue, and will encourage engineering to setup a new engine on the construction site.

Medical can more or less maintain a presence on the station up until the construction site is ready to take them on. Having a basic medbay setup on the site however could make things easier.

Other 'fun' stuff that could be added: Since the construction site is quite small, there may not be enough room on the station for everyone. Hence, a lottery system is conducted to see who gets to go and who doesn't.

  5. I've seen blueshields who take up the slack of command when command is absent. I've seen hop blueshields, I've seen acting captain blueshields, I've seen blueshields go into the gateway to get away from the big scary spiders on the station... on their lonesome, and not to fetch a head.

Such actions only distract from your purpose in protecting command. Every action spent not protecting a head only puts them further in danger.

  6. Around 147 in total, with about 90 spent. I've got everything i want, all the jobs that I'm interested in and races.

Would like to see more stuff added to the karma shop. I think command positions should be karma only but that's a debate for another time and place, which I'm sure already has been discussed about.

An interesting point I've seen being posted on the internet is that Paradise doesn't release significantly many new updates anymore and I think there's some truth to that. Since playing on Paradise station I haven't seen much new except a few new cosmetic items and a rework of some parts of the station. Another issue that I thing actually has quite a lot of merit is the grievance people have with admins, calling the game the "admins' playground".

Paradise station is advertised of being a "medium RP server" but many restrictions that admins come up with ultimately just enable people to be asshats or jerks and has the side-effect of locking people out of many RP opportunities.

From my own personal observation, Paradise seems to undergo regular updates. Changelog shows this. They not be the feature enhancing updates you might desire that you may get from other codes, but I think Paradise updates are significant enough when all added together and I find the Paradise server to be superior when it comes to quality of life improvements that I enjoy on this server, that aren't present on others. Particularly when it comes to control and movement.

As for the hate that Paradise gets, well, kinda comes with the territory of being the most popular SS13 server with exception to Colonial Marines, of course. Top two rated arguments of 'Muh, Paradise Sucks' that I see is 'Furries' and 'Code', none of which is a solid foundation.

  8. What I normally do if I have my eyes on a karma job, I'll observe that job for a couple of rounds (hopefully from a competent player) to see if its something I'd enjoy. It's also a good way to learn the job before you hop in.

I find pod pilot to be my favourite karma unlock, so far. I will say it's a bit of a head scratcher though seeing people go pod pilot and never hopping into their pod once or not frequent enough during a round. Understandable if there isn't enough sec to cover patrols on the station, but if there is, might as well go standard sec if you're going to do that.

Blueshield would be second, but I really have to be in the mood to play it, and it does depend heavily on who is in command. Blueshield requires patience though. Most of the time you'll be shadowing a comdom or standing on the bridge looking fancy. Some good RP opportunities but its a role that if you end up getting bored in, you'll find yourself doing things you shouldn't be doing as the Blueshield, and you don't want that!

I find mechanic is good when I'm tired or just want a nice relaxing round in which I have zero responsibility and the only job I have is to build a pod, which I can do and then fuck off into space to be forgotten about. It's my favourite hang-over job!

Shitcurity is a common word tossed around when people get salty as shit about how they are treated by a security officer, 9 time out of 10.

I have noticed, at times, people doing something, such as breaking into the gateway. That IS against space law, and when someone arrests that person for doing it they are slapped with the label of Shitcurity.

    This, so much... ^^

Another thing is, some people have issues against authority, just because they are authority. And a lot of that can end up being soaked into how they play, how they interact with security, when it shouldn't.

  10. Although not in relation to Paradise at all, this happened on my second playthrough on Aurorastation. Wanted to try out a heavy RP server for awhile now, and figured I try out Aurora before I check out Bay12.

Now usually, I don't have a problem with Sec on Paradise, because anything that does pop up that I might have a legit issue with, could get resolved via the IAA/Magistrate, or if unavailable, then ahelp normally solves the problem.

And I can see now that this might be a recurring problem on servers like Aurora, where IAA/Magistrate roles are non-existent or not played at all, and you have to rely on admin presence to deal with the issue.

So when my  character gets put away in a cell for 35 minutes without formally being charged with anything and just 'wordlessly' thrown into a cell, I'm left with complete disappointment rather than anything else, and on a heavy RP server I'd expect some layer of roleplay to be involved, but didn't even get the basics.

And what dastardly crime did I do to get put away for 35 minutes?

I used a cleaning grenade and slipped up two officers in an attempt to rescue a fellow revolutionary. My slipping didn't yield much results sadly, and I was tazed, and battered to the point that my right arm was bleeding, despite not offering any resistance. They didn't even know if I was part of the same group but they could have safely assumed as much by my actions, but not a single word was actually uttered at me or indirectly during all of this, and I was thrown into a cell wounded.

Having quickly reviewed their space law regulations, nothing I had done would have condoned that sentence. So I ahelped it...

I got nothing in response, and my ticket was eventually closed, again, without a response.

I didn't actually have to spend a full 35 minutes in jail because about 15 minutes later, a gang of fellow revolutionaries show up to rescue me, but failed in the process.. and from then on, I'm dragged around by the CAPTAIN cuffed and bleeding out.

    Heavy RP my ass!

"Lastly, I do feel like security cadets should be a thing. Armed with basic equipment (pepper spray, flash, no batons or tasers) and very limited brig access, these people's job are to handle minor crimes and general peacekeeping."

Not sure how the cadet idea would function. Problem with the concept of having cadets only deal with minor crimes is that they'll end up getting drafted by HoS to deal with major shit going down especially if sec numbers are poor. It would also mean a change in access levels and probably mean revamping the whole brig area to accommodate that. It also may not help with actually increasing sec numbers, especially if people flock to the cadet role.

"First thing is the fact people treat sec like shit, that needs to stop. It encourages MORE shitty behavior. Many of the punishments for greytiding are not strong enough, and it's basically just a game to fuck with sec at that point."

People are going to shit on sec regardless of the punishments - but yes, I do think punishments as a whole could be increased. It won't actually make that much of a difference as a whole, since you'll still get greytiding, you will still get people acting the bollox and making sec's job harder, but having stiffer sentences supported by space law could cover your back from a Bwoink should the perp feel that the sentence is unjust, when it really isn't.

I know when I'm misbehaving, a hardy sentence of 10 mins or so certainly does put me on good behavior. But not everyone is like that - some people will wreck their cells or kill themselves when faced with stiffer sentences. So... its difficult to do as it could end up causing more problems.

"On other servers, even slipping security is punishable. Many of the space laws are double the time what we have here for even simple crimes. Maybe punishment for slipping them is a bit much, but anything more than a simple prank SHOULD be briggable."

I have cuffed and brigged peeps for slipping me on a code red and usually when I'm after someone. Context is important here. Slipping someone up on a code blue/red should be dealt with harshly especially if its repeated slipping.

"Next, the other reason people don't like to play sec, is the game is not factoring in sec population in gamemodes. This is probably the big one. It's shitty being a sec officer when you're the only one, and there's literally 8 traitors. You are going to die. So you don't queue up for sec anymore.

I hate going roundstart sec. There's hardly anyone to help anymore."

Yes - This I feel is the heart of the problem. There is no balance or scale. And I also have ended up not going roundstart sec for this reason. There needs to be balance in the game modes. Only a few days ago, I was the pod pilot and there was the warden, detective and one other officer. We had 4 (maybe 5) vamps roaming about, 3 of them were very active and murder-boning everyone. We had a space blob spawn in right in the brig during all this, and then space vines down in engineering... All while the vampire threat was only getting worse and was chewing through sec as new sec officers arrived. I generally have a high tolerance for shit like this but that was just madness.

So balancing that out would definitely go a long way to easing the pressure and making sec a generally much more fun role.

"Lastly, right now there's a lot of issues with stuns going around. One misstep and you're dead. This goes for antags and security alike. I would much prefer a stamina approach where at least there's a bit of a fight rather than instant stuns. NO ONE likes to die without even a chance to get a shot off."

Yeah I would favour this, sec should have an advantage over average equipped antags - getting one-shotted by tasers and that. But I doubt anything is going to change in this regard, can't see the combat mechanics ever changing.

".S.: Admins need to refrain from shittalking security on announcements. I've already complained about this. It's a shitty thing to do. Just fax or bwoink them, don't call out players on open comms. Especially with sec, it makes things extremely embarrassing and completely overboard.

Announcements should only be used to stop an infraction in progress, not to berate people after the event happens."

To be fair, I've only ever seen this happen a couple of times or so, and they were generally warranted - talking really crazy shit happening, a major severe breach in SoP that has led to unauthorised executions, etc. But I do get what ya saying - it shouldn't really be announced to the whole station. It's usually funny though, but as you said, not for the person playing the role, even if they deserved to be called out on it.
