  1. How well would they be able to interact and help each other? Both will want to get gaia trays, both will want to have a few traits like perennial, both would want to have mutagen, botany for a few more food plants like meatwheat and mutating yield or potency.

  2. A ripley is nice if you use a crusher as weapon, as it'll be faster to mine with a ripley than the crusher. Fighting is handled out of the mech. In the mech, you can ignore ashstorms and lava (at least as robo-ripley). So in a way, the ripley can function as mobile base, load up a crate to work as slow-access storage.
But yeah, ripleys probably could use more slots/tools. I don't think there necessarily should be loot only usable with ripleys, but shared usability will be good, like goliath plates.
The movespeed and drill cooldown has to be fixed, checks for a pressure under 20 to work as they should be for mining, lavaland has a higher pressure.
As for buffing the drill as weapon, not sure how needed, it should work for watchers, goliaths, and tendrils, even with loot, if you are quick on loading up the crate. But the problem would be anything that has hit and run tactics or fleeing, swarmers or legions need to be clamped, which might be too weak. On the other hand, if ripleys indeed just get turned to mobile bases, might not even be required.

Related to this issue are robo-ripleys, meaning brains directly installed into the mechs, currently, not worth playing. First, you have a hard time even getting to lavaland alone, you are unable to move the shuttle or cycle the airlock, which is the only way out. Asteroid mining outpost had airtight flaps passable with a ripley at least. Then you have the inadequate weaponry, inability to repair yourself, or apply upgrades. No GPS to find out where other miners are, to get repairs and upgrades applied, or big fauna to avoid and not die. Most seem to be solvable by teaming up with a miner, which probably would be held up more, especially given the slow movement speed for the pressure, but there is also the issue that they don't have (working) mesons (might have broken issue, think was able to see space behind walls, otherwise nothing/black. There is no space on lavaland, so fully useless there). So in the end, they'll be less usefull than a Kidan miner without meson implants and active magboots.

On the other hand goliaths have lost the eye-flashy tell they'd do when they were about to attack.

They didn't fully loose it, but their eyes turn red instead. Given how small the eyes are, hard to notice, but possible.

  4. Goliaths are only strong enough for guaranteed bone breaks on hands and feet, if they are unarmored. Unfortunatly, said appendages ARE unarmored with the normal explorer suit.

I'm don't think this is necessarily intended, and as far as i know, TG has the whoole body covered, since they lack a differentiation between hands and arms, same for feet, and are covering that.

Tweaking this should help a good bit against goliaths, but their timer might still need increasing, given slower movementspeed and possible lag.

  5. There already are multiple ways to open up the crates, with a at least half being achievable by normal station crew, but still have at least some work behind it. The options include EMP, correct (stolen) access, shooting, drilling, and maybe a few hostile mobs. Not sure if there really need to be more.

It might also make it too easy, you either have a 100% chance to open it with abundant tools, or you have it a bit like the bombs. No matter how you do it, 50/50 chance to defuse or blow, so you can just go quick. Sure could shift the balance around, but seems somewhat flawed and probably resulst in the same. Depending when you do it, might just be able to order 2x crates when you have a 1 in x chance to open them, and be done. And with it "just" permalocking, you can still do the forced opening, so it might just give you a timesave/quieter way.

They basically blinded you with it, given your description, sounds like a very good distraction to me.

  7. Yeah, it's probably a bit of QoL instead of 100% realism with the backpacks, i think one problem with making it fixed storage is where? The normal inventory is already in use, lower part of the screen is already quite packed, where the whoole inventory lives.
Then codewise, it probably needs a good bit of special handling, can't just take the simple storage type handling.
