It won't hint at a law change but it will directly violate the part of the law that states you must "...NOT COMMUNICATE WITH ANYONE OR ANYTHING."

But that's the fallacy of long intricately worded laws: Despite how specific they can be, the increase in content means there's an increase in the amount of parts that can slip by a person skimming over it.

  2.

"1. TURN OFF TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND THEN KILL YOURSELF. IF YOU ARE A CYBORG JUST KILL YOURSELF IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH ANYONE OR ANYTHING. DO NOT STATE THIS LAW OR HINT AT A LAW CHANGE. IF YOU ARE THE AI YOU MUST SUICIDE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER TURNING TELECOMMUNICATIONS OFF."

No way to loophole that, especially if it is, indeed, law 1 or 0. At that point it's just ignoring the law.

The problem with introducing any sort of game mechanics is that no matter what they are, a bunch of people will always complain (much to my dismay, as I think a few of the suggestions here are pretty dope).

No-one ever reaches a consensus on lore, but should it be reached and at least loosely enforced, that'd help loads.

Regardless of what happens, I'll play Vulp anyway.

  4. The difference between taking a language class in reality and trying to learn the language of a physically different type of space man species is that in reality, all our languages have been invented and spoken solely by humans. We are all so physiologically similar that we can make the same noises. We can't quite bark like dogs can, meow like cats can, make whatever the hell noises skrell or drask do, can't quite shriek like the vox or hiss like the snake/lizard/unathi folk. Dismissing the above suggestions would be to say that all these species, in fact, have the same physical sound/speech producing features as each-other.

  5.

":-1: very strongly. I think leaving the feature at being able to de-select your species-specific language in order to adopt an extra would be alright and I think it's great that this PR allows you to have that choice (I like that aspect alone), but species-specific languages should remain restricted. I know that means you'll only be able to have clownish + gutter, clownish + tradeband or tradeband + gutter as additional language setups via this PR, but that's as far as I feel alright with it going as a player of just about every race we've got. This really doesn't sit well with me at all," mostly because the possibility to implement the below mechanic is so open and it would allow pretty much all parties to be at least somewhat satisfied.

Aurorablade - "..or making it so if you are not that race you 'mishear' a word...if anyone has seen the monty python hungarian phrasebook sketch think of that.."

"Like have parts of the speech show up as asterisks like with the Skrell language (parts that just aren't comprehensible at all, although Skrellian simply uses the asterisk as one of its possible syllables) or words mis-matched for species that aren't the native but can speak a language.

This would have to affect what characters of the language's parent species hears though if they're being spoken to by characters by characters not of the language's parent species

i.e. Two people speaking Canilunzt/Siik'tajr over the radio, parts of the message get asterisked out or scrambled.

i.e. A Human speaking Canilunzt/Siik'tajr to a Vulpkanin/Tajara. The Vulpkanin/Tajara would hear the message with parts asterisked out or scrambled as if it was spoken over the radio due to the other player's lack of a tail or whatever (since lore-wise it communicates intent, could probably just check for the HAS_TAIL flag)."

Vivalas - "...on the other hand it makes no sense that a human can mrowl or warble. I would support a "listen-only" format."

LBK2000 - "Pretty sure there's already a flag for languages that makes the language garbled without line of sight. No idea if it actually works or not. Actually, I know it doesn't, but it's just a simple fix. Probably.

Also, I think only Unathi should be able to speak Sinta'Unathi, Siik'tajr and Canilunzt should be garbled when spoken by a non-fluffybutt or over radio, and Skrellian should be garbled for non-Skrell (Hearing or speaking), for lore reasons."

Krausus - "> I think most people are probably more annoyed by a single species or two always taking up the majority of comms than they are the actual cliques.

Then why would they be in favor of this? There will still be languages they can't understand, because you can't understand every language.

If the radio getting clogged up with species-specific languages is an issue, we don't even need to make code changes, we just need to make "don't pollute station-wide radio channels with non-common languages" part of SOP. It would be perfectly reasonable, since it's just noise for anyone who can't understand it."

FullofSkittles - "I don't really like the idea of everyone being able to pick racial languages if they're not part of that race.

Sometimes speaking in your racial language is the only way to get people who make their entire round about being racist to leave you alone. It's not very fun for many of them if they cant understand what their current target is saying. I've had plenty of people who tried to initiate fights give up quickly once they realized they didn't know what I was saying.

I just don't really see allowing anyone to learn racial languages as being a positive thing. It also removes a whole lot of the 'i need a translator here' RP that sometimes happens in the station currently with races that aren't generally played much.

I'd be absolutely fine with someone opting to not know their own racial language. I'd be perfectly fine with there being some brand new non-racial languages that anyone could learn too (sign language when?). I also agree that languages besides common shouldn't be allowed over comms with the exception of an emergency."

Found a really dank meme in maint one time. A dude managed to score the syndi pistol, mag and suppressor, so they put it together, loaded the gun and left it on a table illuminated by the black desk lamp along with a zippo, burnt cigar and an ash tray with a wooden chair off to the side. There was a note left in red crayon that said 'Kill you're self' and beneath it in the clown's comic sans read 'Your* :^)' with the honk stamp. I checked in later and found that a baldy in a blue uniform had suicided with the pistol and there was a line added to the note saying 'fuck yall'. Good times.

Pointless diatribe aside, I think it'd be interesting to see the randomized structures/encounters implemented in the station maintenance. I'm pretty certain the framework for it's already there.

I enjoy high population because it makes the job I do/don't less important. Less pressure, easier to get lost in the mob.

This one's been particularly entertaining because a fair amount of the ne'er do-wells that've come to play end up bringing a smile to my face. I've been randomly attacked myself because of the race I chose to play. Otherwise, I never really end up in fights-- and when I do, it's the same people playing their favourite antag rolls and it doesn't normally end up well. This time's different, but it's still unsavoury. I still find plenty of RP around, but it's a roll of the dice. Sometimes I find myself bowing out of joining a round because of too much chaos, and that's completely spared me from joining a round I honestly regretted playing come server restart. Probably luck. When I do join, however, I'm greeted with fresh and unfamiliar faces-- people I'm confident I've never met. Means I've no guise to put up and no expectation to meet, so it seems like it's just a freer and more lighthearted experience. Then the people who aren't big on the RP are there going out their business having their own good time providing (probably indirectly so) comic relief that keeps the edge off.

I have a really hard time seeing whether listing is better or worse for us as a player. I might not be looking at it the right way, but it's always a bit of a treat in my eyes when it happens. When we list, I have a great time and I learn to enjoy the aspects of being de-listed that take a hit. When we de-list, I still have a great time and I fondly remember the fun I had during the listed period. Unsavoury people and bad experiences take their leave from my mind with haste (for the most part) and it stays pretty fresh. I just like things the way they are.

    tldr;I think it's going alright.

I died AGAIN guys, can you PLEASE nerf tasers? For real this time?

I like them the way they are. I get my ass handed to me on a silver platter by tasers loads of times when I just can't juke hard enough and that's just how it is. Sometimes you just need to learn to let go, right?

I don't mind posting my sentiments on every new taser meme thread, got me living the copy paste deja-vu life

Can't pick. When I first started playing (I can't really remember well, which blows) I'm pretty sure I always ran either Cargo Tech or Janitor. Later Shaft Miner, and finally Paramedic.

Every single one of them I feel's low-pressure. I used CT and Janitor to learn the game, but the jobs never really get old for me and I can't quite pin down why. You can have a huge impact in the round without the round depending on your ability to have a huge impact.

As for Shaft Miner and Paramedic, I enjoy bumping some awesome tunes and cleansweeping the asteroid for RnD (and whoever else wants the space rocks) and occasionally saving people. Lately, however, I've found that I've ended up rescuing more people as a Staff Assistant rather than the job tailor-made to do it. Beats me why that is.

Now, my go-to jobs are CT, Janitor, Shaft Miner AND Paramedic! Woo.

Damn you guys were SSTRP players? What were your names so I can see if you've died under my command or not.

My name is as it was. Administrated on ValidusGaming.

Holy shit dude, Validus!? Has to've been the one of the best times I've ever had on Garry's Mod, honestly. I went through a few characters and I honestly don't even remember the names anymore it's been so long (I think one of the dudes I played was Benjamin Miller the recon, memory's hella fuzzy), but I played there from start to finish and through all the revivals. Amazing time, been missing it bad ever since it went down for the last time. I think it's been at LEAST a couple (or more) years since I heard anyone mention the name of that community.

Been through just about every SSTRP server that's come down the pike though, and it was totally worth.

By chance, do you remember... "THE LAW"?

EDIT 2017-02-22: I remember playing a guy named Benjamin Miller for the most part (Pvt, Pfc, SPC, Cpl I think) from Recon. I wish I could remember more, I loved playing there so much.

Good shit man, I played the hell out of GMod SSTRP till I drifted off to other stuff. Super cool to hear you were a part of that scene too! I miss it all to be honest, haha. It was really kicking back in GM10-12.

I love the bits with Jenkins and the Ascendant, super cool designs they've got and I dig the dynamic going on haha

    @everyone in this thread

Just sprite coloured shirts and add them as accessories (like the waistcoat) so you can wear the pants like a uniform and attach whatever coloured shirt you want, accomplishing exactly what you're all babbling on about with the least possible amount of changes.

WOAH! Is that a Starship Troopers uniform/rank insignia I see!? So fitting that it's the captain's pin. Looks absolutely dope. Loved those movies so much, and this commission turned out excellent. Major kudos for the SST business. Awesome job with the digitigrade legs.

Borgs have serious problems with persuing someone going EVA.

Unless you're a secborg or mining borg.

Also, our peacekeeper borgs on Paradise also have a laser gun setting, as well as a sonic jackhammer. I highly doubt Fox was referring to those. :P

Shit, I thought that's what they were :(

Wow, God damn! IDE and RABBIT look absolutely wicked. Happy birthday LBK! Wow. Both characters got a few Ward-Takahashi parts?

I think RABBIT looks awesome with the head pictured. I've never been a big fan of the monitors, so my opinion's got bias, but the design just looks so good.
