  2. Congratulations! :)

The wiki is a labour of love, but it's also a community driven project that's constantly evolving and changing.

We owe a lot to our contributors and our wiki thrives exclusively because of them.

Echoing SynthTee here... If you've ever been interested in editing the wiki, please don't be afraid to lend a hand here and there!

Problem is, both species and antags are used in other places.

All the FPXXX ones probably should be though, yes.

The FPXX ones should be front page only, period. I upsized and uploaded them specifically for the front page when I designed it! :)

The schema shouldn't be used anywhere else to my knowledge.

  4. The QM is still the head of the supply department and a member of it.

If you want to upload the correct file, feel free & I will push the edit to the template, though this reminds me that all front-page image files should probably be protected against changes.

I'm going to disagree with Spark here; I think IPCs are genuinely powerful. I know that sounds bonkers considering a single laser gun blast can take off our leg, but being an IPC means:

    - There are very few chemicals that are harmful to you, and you don't have to worry about being poisoned, or viruses. You're almost completely exempt from chem-memery.

    - You don't have to breathe, you don't need to keep emergency O2 on you, and you don't have to worry about the station filling with plasma or N2. Even being able to continue speaking in an airless breach is useful.

    - IPCs are *completely exempt* from the effects of radiation. As an antag you can make life hell for the rest of the station with irradiation and not be affected. In addition, radstorms give you a station with every airlock open and the ability to roam around freely.

    - You don't need to eat, and borg chargers and APCs are (generally) everywhere.

    - You can repair yourself with common household items. Like, think about what a big deal medicine is for organics, to the point where even wizards teleport to medical storage first. Different conditions require different chems, defibrillation might be necessary, or a sleeper, or you have to wait to get cloned, or maybe you're crashing from a meth overdose. As long as we have a welder and a length of cable (and aren't in crit) we're gucci.

    - You can *continue to see and speak when debrained*.

    1) There are also very few chemicals useful to you. You have no healing over time. Your access to adrenals and stun-resistance is highly limited. Viruses are almost always positive. You're still susceptible to any kind of fire-based chem or acid.

    2) Nobreathe is almost functionally pointless. A topped up yellow tank does the same thing.

    3) Situational functionality during a single event isn't terribly useful, it's merely convenient. Sources of radiation aren't common, and deliberately irradiating yourself to affect others is something that would be restricted to a hijack antagonist.

    4) Chicken noodle soup exists.

    5) Food heals organics. Medbots heal organics. Clicking on yourself with a widely available automender for .2 seconds heals organics. This ties back into #1.

    6) You also can't ghost and maintain role eligibility. Your speaker can also be turned off, which makes this moot.

The only meaningful buff that IPCs have over other species is that they can't get IB, but this is more or less moot because they tend not to survive encounters that would typically cause them to begin with.

As another point, you can't be cloned and *must* receive surgery to be revived. This makes death a much larger hassle, as it's dependent on someone having knowledge + tools + time, rather than three clicks on a cloner (or one, with it upgraded).

    that sounds disgusting

Wetware/cyberware. This is the basic dichotomy that's been around since the 80s. It is the staple definition of cyberspace/cyberpunk genres. The only real deviation from this is Shadowrun which uses the term "bioware," but this is specific to vat-grown and genetically enhanced organs.

You don't like it, you can take it up w/ Bruce Sterling or just about any other foundational writer in this genre. I have literally nothing to do with any of these definitions.

  7. We used to have wizards w/ objectives before.

It ended up creating incredibly tame rounds that dragged on for hours on end with no satisfying conclusion. Wizard shows up, pretends to be friendly, completes their objective silently, then farts around w/ Command for 1:45. Their current objectiveless schema is very intentional.

  8. Hello,

This response has been reviewed by Necaladun.

Please read the rules carefully and attentively, sentence by sentence, and you will find the phrase. Do not skim. It will be obvious because the sentence containing it specifically mentions to use it in an appeal.

The reason you're being asked to do this is so that we know you're fully aware of all the rules, not just the one you've broken.

Actually forgot to refer to this. First of all, revive drops cuffs, so that does quite significantly change the dynamic, because a reviving cling can and will overpower an officer given the chance, if they're the better spaceman. Second of all, being dragged to the cremator gives other clings an opportunity to save you, like the cooperative antag they are. SRing or decapitating clings immediately upon capture cheats them of their entire revive mechanic. The SOP clearly states they are to be cremated, so presumably they are meant to be lifeforms that can regenerate from anything less than that.

It feels incredibly gamey to do something else due to game mechanics working like they do. Clings are weak, their abilities generally suck in comparison to the other antags' analogues, and they're meant to make up for that with persistence.

Thanks for the heads up. Been awhile since I played as them.

Quite honestly I never noticed because when a changeling gets dragged to the crematorium, they're typically being beaten by three different people who all possess instastun. I honestly didn't notice because changelings escape rate after being caught is so abysmally low. When I have noticed them escape, it's as headslugs, and they generally spend the rest of the round in the vents.

as recently I see a trend of Brig Physicians rushing to medbay to get SR the moment clings are confirmed. This is clearly powergaming, and it can ruin a cling run completely.

Brig Physicians aren't to be chasing down changelings in any way, shape, or form.

    They're not officers.

If they're acting like officers, ahelp it.

If the cling gets caught in security and the brig doc SRs them, that's on the cling for being reckless and trying to infiltrate a secure area. No different than a changeling going loud in medical and getting decap'd by the CMO or a surgeon at that point tbqh.

SR already requires a changeling to be dead. If you're dead, and killed by security, chances are you're also cuffed and being actively beaten every time you attempt a revive. SR doesn't change the dynamic here.

Hello everyone, I wanted to get community input on this since it's been something that hasn't really been made clear. Should we use Damage/Armor Values on the wiki? What I mean by this, is how much damage say a crowbar/toolbox would do or how much brute damage a space suit would protect from.

Other wikis such as the Pararussian downstream and Baystation both include it but we don't currently(for the most part). Generally, I don't include it for reason such as preventing article bloat and discouraging meta-gaming but that may not be what's right. Is including this information appropriate for the paradise wiki, is it only appropriate in some cases (guns, traitor weapons, exo/space-suits, etc?), or not at all.

IIRC, the security page includes armour value listings on all the equipment. It was an eventual goal to have a full inventory of all items w/ damage/armour.

I think it would be much simpler to just explain the armour formula at the header of the relevant sections.

  13. Hi everyone,

I recognize it was probably a bit improper to leave without so much as a bye.

I've had a lot of fun over the five or six years I've spent here. I've spent a lot of hours frittering away on projects (wiki out of date ree) and spent even more time just shooting the shit with members of the community (including staff!). It's been a pleasure having the opportunity to work/play with all of you and I wish you all the best going forward. It's my hope that someone will eventually take up the reins for the wiki (most of the hard work is done!) and that the community continues to be the warm, glowing, and sometimes stressed out and shouty place it's always been.

Paradise is a project that I've easily sunk several thousand hours into, so I hope and look forward to all the best things in the future for both the server and the people who elect to continue playing/volunteering here. I have tremendous regard for the community here and I know that you'll all continue to diligently work, play, and contribute to making Paradise the server that it is.

    Godspeed, Cyberiad.

I mean, Plasmamen are obscured by the potential that they were previously humans who are now suffering from a unique disease. Creates mystery while explaining their shape and disposition. Overall great writing.

Not humans specifically (this was an earlier iteration of the lore), but a remnant species deserted on a planet for countless generations (their homeworld was likely a penal colony for an earlier spacefaring race).

@Shadeykins Any thoughts or input? Aside from 1, maybe 2, admins- no one seems to be giving input despite clear community support being present.

At least from a wiki stand-point we really haven't had any progress or at least no one seems interested to actually do anything. As far as in game changes there's been a lot of posturing but, again, no action.

From a wiki standpoint they're complete--the lore was rewritten with all the other lore.

If people come up with a cohesive writeup of lore that's better/more fitting and works with the existing lore (there are cross-references in our lore and a timeline), I don't see why we wouldn't implement it. Lore changes on that scale are not at my discretion however, they're a matter for headmins.

Hello! As the original creator of the species it should be noted that none of the lore that has ever been posted for vulp was written by nor approved of by me. Even the name of the race wasn't intended to be what it is. Vulp got merged in too quickly when they weren't close to being finished and there was a sea of drama surrounding their implementation that lead to the choice to back off and let things settle as there was a chance they would be outright removed. I did not want to risk wasting time on something that was going to be slated for removal.

While I had no say in anything regarding the current lore and am unsure who all worked on it or why they made the choices they did I can at least comment on some of my intentions for the race and a bit of explanation on what my original goal was for them.

    -neat ideas here-

You were given an extensive period (6 months) with constant requests for feedback on lore. Vulpkanin went without lore for about eight months initially because you refused to provide any input on the matter whatsoever despite having joint authority over it (you were even told a simple yes/no to the proposed lore would have sufficed--there was three different lore documents floating around at the time as well).

You declined to give any feedback after being asked on four separate occasions by myself, by Flattest at least two or three times (to my knowledge), and by headministration once or twice at the time.

A lore team was later established which you also did not apply for or offer any feedback. The new revised lore produced by the lore team was then announced publically at multiple junctures (five times to the community) for feedback to be given. The lore then sat for another six months during a feedback period where we were actively collecting input from members of the community and people who were interested in the lore (quite honestly anyone was welcome to provide input and spitball at this time).

You didn't give any feedback/input at this time either.

    Quote

Ultimately people who were uninvolved with the creation of the race made their own lore without any idea of what the original plan/goal was for them. It was just people being particularly unwilling to wait for the dust to settle and pushing their own ideas through and now we're stuck with it. I honestly just ignore vulp lore because I find it really silly and boring.

People wanted your feedback on the lore and actively tried to include you in the process.

I am glad you've actually stated a few of your original ideas (they're valuable if the lore gets revised again), but this is an incredibly unfair statement to anyone who worked on it. People repeatedly tried to involve you in the process and framing it as though you were patently glossed over is completely untrue.

If you--as the creator of the species--write something, I can guarantee you that it would be incorporated.

As for lore discussion, it's always welcome; idea generation is valuable. The only thing to keep in mind is that lore mirrors mechanics, not the other way around. This is probably the biggest reason why none of the lore is terribly bold or adventurous for the species as nobody wants to implement active contradictions between the lore and the game server.
