How To: Be a Cultist

A Comprehensive Guide to Worship of Nar'Sie

Worshipping Nar'Sie can be a difficult thing! The average aspiring cultist relies on their brothers and sisters of the hood for their spells and activities. This, while good for teamwork, is a very bad thing to do! Collectively researching spells, as opposed to selecting one person to research and the rest to prepare, is a far greater solution. So, to begin, let's learn Spell Research.

Spell Research

The cultists who awaken, rather than being initiated, will always remember one of the ancient, powerful words of Nar'Sie. The following is perhaps the most important thing to do with a communication talisman: Reveal the word you remember, as well as its meaning, to your brothers. Without this, research may be slow or simply never done, and a cult without their dark arts is hardly a cult at all.

Something to remember, all words of the dark, ancient language can be discovered given only two words.

Once you have confirmed at least two words of power, you must select a spell from your tome that requires two words you know, and one you do not. Once you have, sacrifice will be needed, and not the spell; You must change your perspective and notes, filling each unknown word with the meaning you are searching for, and testing it by drawing the rune. This may require you to injure yourself repeatedly, but the realm of the physical is unimportant to the knowledgeable initiates of Nar'Sie anyway.

Keep doing this until you have fulfilled all knowledge your tome has to offer! Note, however, that some spells require components, and may simply fail without them. Of particular note is convert, sacrifice, raise dead, and manifest, but still more may exist. So, if you plan on testing with these spells, ensure you are not disheartened by seemingly being incapable of finding a word; It may simply be a fault of the physical, not the ethereal, realm.

Co-op Culting

Knowing the ancient spells is one thing, but implementing them is another! Besides research, no cultist is better alone. It is called a brotherhood, after all. With teamwork, there is no being that can resist the guile and charm of Nar'Sie's faith. Perhaps they may need some coercion, such as a swift kick to the head to ensure they do not struggle, but I assure you, they will appreciate it when all's said and done!

Most importantly, some spells require more than one robed rapscallion to accomplish! If you are at a lack for friends of the faith, it is never bad to turn to the otherworld for help! Manifest a few ghosts, and you will surely be ready to tackle any issue.

The Blessed Constructions

Are you a brother formed from pure spirit and stone? Excellent! You have been blessed with a physical body in the name of Nar'Sie! There are many kinds of you, and all of them can be exceedingly useful to your fellow felons. Know your powers, and be present where your brothers require, and you should have no problems with your new existence.

Finally,

Enjoy your service to Nar'Sie, it's not every day one is initiated into a horrifying death cult grand service to your god!

Quick Tips:

  1. When experimenting with runes (Spell Research), activating the rune itself is not required! If you draw the rune and the Geometer blesses you with one that glows bright red, rather than saying dull, it means it is blessed with the power of Great Nar-Nar;

  2. The Engineering Outpost is a fantastic place for Spell Research, as rarely anyone ever goes there. The bathroom, especially, is a great location, since it has no windows;

Several types of runes can be imbued into papers, but these papers need to be blank (so no grabbing a bunch of supply requests from Cargo)! Perhaps the most useful of those are the Stun Papers! If imbued with a stun rune, you can have about 15 seconds of freedom over whoever you just smacked on the face;

Wall Runes are a fantastic way of keeping enemies away if you happen to be cornered, and give you plenty of time to either prepare an escape plan, or be teleported out!

Related to the above, make sure to grab two Brethren of the Hood and make a Summon Cultist rune if you happen to know one of your Brothers or Sisters is imprisoned. If executed correctly, they will vanish from thin air and reappear on the rune!

Related to the above, Communication Runes are perhaps one of the most useful things you can use, allowing you to send a message to every cultist, everywhere (actual cultist action not guaranteed);

Whacking a new tome with a tome that already has all the Words scribbled into it will transmit the Words in the tome, allowing for quick and easy distribution of brochures;

You can retrace your runes, destroying them, by using your Arcane Tome on them! This is instantaneous and great if you need to quickly erase any evidence!
