  1. I don’t see bridge hobos as a negative by themselves. I do see bridge hobos as a negative when they:

Crowd primary hallway with difficult to traverse terrain, buildings, vending machines, tables, walls, and windows (without CE approval. Which is never.)

Spout incoherent nonsensical shit at command trying to get their attention for something stupid (“Captain givbe me ur soap ehehehe aren’t I quirky? I’m not gonna stop *scream spamming until you do! Fucking comdom”)

Try to break into the bridge by dismantling windows and generally other tider behavior and then throwing a pissy fit when sec comes to brig their ass and they start screaming “shitsec! Riot!”

When bridge hobos aren’t doing these things, yea, it’s usually cause they wanna just vibe and hang out with the added backround noise of listening in on the goings on of the bridge and centralized nature of the bridge area. Like having the TV on while you’re in a conversation. It’s just backround noise.

As long as hobos aren’t being shitters, I don’t see them as a problem. If command desires, they can slam the shutters and ignore them.
    ————————————

    On assistant titles:

If I recall, we did away with “businessman, tourist, civilian” job titles because that seemed to give people the idea that “I don’t work here. You can’t tell me what to do. So fuck off and how dare you suggest I go do work, HoP.”

I’m exaggerating, but I think this was the general behavior. “I don’t work here and am in no way expected to have to listen to anyone”. Having everyone as an assistant helps reign that mentality back a bit. Yes, you do work here. Nothing is generally expected of you, but stop trying to claim sections of maints as your sovereign territory or whatever it is you justify doing as a “civilian”.

Personally I feel the removal of the alt titles have been a slight improvement, but it’s nothing catastrophicly game changing. There will always be tider assistants, regardless of what the job title says on their ID.

Besides. We all live for the moment admemes let Mr Antagman minibomb the hobos. Teach those bums a lesson.

Edit: I’m convinced bridge hobos do it for the backround noise and central location. You don’t have bridge hobo culture (at least not as strongly) on Farragus because it’s not centralized and bridge command is out of sight at the computer area

  2. I’m terrible at putting my thoughts into words, doubly so on a public forum, so please don’t put me on the cross: but what if we moved changeling from being its own game mode to instead being a traitor upload bundle much like how the contractor bundle is?

20 TC changeling bundle: You receive a chameleon jumpsuit and dormant dehydrated head slug. The slug is inside an implanter that can only be used by the one who purchased it, and upon use, makes you a changeling as the head slug merges with your conscious. Optionally have the PDA uplink self terminate so you can’t rob other tots for crystals?/relive the changeling with a desword combo from days of old.

This makes playing as a changeling optional so you’re not having to deal with 130 players in highpop and the headache that it usually is, while also being granted a chameleon jumpsuit to better utilize the ‘blending in’ and ‘hiding in plain sight’ appeal of the transformation and identity theft abilities of the changeling.

Im not sure if a full chameleon kit would be too overpowered hence just the jumpsuit, but I’m sure someone has a better idea on how that could be implemented.

this doesn’t outright fix changelings of course, but instead makes it more of an opt in side grade like the contractor.

  3. I was under the impression that:

sec using riot armor? Shoot them.
    sec using bulletproof? Stab them.

plus the energy/laser reduction is rather low on both, it’s practically negligible. I think they’re fine as is and compel antags to be adaptable in their weaponry. Or at the least, have an energy weapon.

  4. >Be agent

    >want to buy surplus (meme strong)

    >find 1x2 hole in maints to purchase my lovely crate

    >bolt the door shut to prevent any maint dwellers from stealing muh loot

    >buy the surplus

    >in addition to the usual goodies, it includes a stetchkin, a silencer, and a false bottomed briefcase!

    >incredible! The perfect combo to perform ranged stealth kills!

    >momentarily forget how to open the briefcase

    >use the briefcase in hand

    >”HWAT’S THIS?!”

    >Oh lord please no

    >”AN OVERABUNDANCE OF BEES IN THE WORKPLACE?!”

    >God please I thought it was a false bottomed briefcase

    >”MY BRIEFCASE FULL OF BEES OUGHTA PUT A STOP TO THAT!”

    >Find myself in a 2x1 space.

    >Door bolted shut.

    >With a briefcase full of angry Syndie Bees.

  5. Don’t really have much to add to this conversation as Necaladun made some pretty solid points. If the issue is simply voter turn out, encourage people to vote more. Remind your friends to vote not just at the end of round, but in discord as well. Saying that people shouldn’t be allowed to vote for their preferred map because it’s not the map you want kind of defeats the point of the voting system in my eyes.

  6. >Be traitor with HoS gun objective

    >Buy surplus crate solo for the meme

    >It contains a trick revolver

    >Break into EVA for a space raid into HoS office

    >Steal the mime’s space suit as it was only one left

    >The mime just so happens to see me

    >I flee into maints

    >Mime gives chase

    >Flee out airlock

    >Mime still chases

    >Stare at mime as they try to punch me to death while they take space+oxy damage

    >Casually drop the trick revolver

    >They grab it

  7. Also known as Shaw.

Hello fellow nerds! I have come to the realization that I am nearing my 4 year anniversary of playing on this delightful spessman game and currently boasting 2200+ hours on Paradise alone; and I never did do one of these introductions! Better late than never, eh?

Some of you may know my character in game, Dahk Grel the vulp. He’s one of my first characters and definitely my most played. He’s a bit of a self insert at times as opposed to some of my other characters who I’ve actually invested lore and character traits into, but I still love to play him for that slightly more casual feel.

Paradise has been my most favorite game/server to play over the last nearly four years, and I hope to invest another four at least. The community, game mechanics, art style, inside jokes, and atmosphere are the absolute best I’ve ever seen in a game, and for that I love it to death.  I have also absolutely been ‘that guy’ who tries to get IRL friends to check out ‘that weird 2d spess game that’s definitely not Among Us+‘.

Here’s to another four years, nerds. Love ya. <3

  8. Make hugging harassment too then, smh my head random strangers walk up and HUG me showing me AFFECTION. makes me sick.

in all seriousness, I think the only problem with kissing is that it’s coded as a projectile and can trigger things that it shouldn’t be able to as mentioned above.

  9. >blob in turbine

    >rush in with energy gun kiting a blobbernaught

    >baldy Mcminer decides he wants to use his RIPLEY mech armed with a simple drill against the blob.

    >Baldy decides the best path is the straight one and PUSHES me against my will into the blob, with no means of going around due to cramped maint tunnels.

    >scream “YOU KILLED ME, ASSHOLE!” With my dying breath.

  10. First of all, thank you @Sirryan2002 for taking the initiative and taking the charge on getting our wiki up to date; it’s much needed and much appreciated.

I am still working on the EMP page. Currently just looking for more things to add. I am a little inefficient as to how I go about looking for items as I am just using my in game experiences for things I *think* would interact with an EMP, and then using a test server to emp flashlight/emp grenade said objects and observing what happens. I have tried combing the code to see which items have emp interactions, however code is a new thing to me and while I can “sort of” read it, it’s mostly inefficient. I am going to continue relying on taking notes of items I see while playing on Para that I would think could be EMP’d and hoping that the community PMs me either here or on discord about items they think would be affected by an EMP so I can then test. Once I have more entries, I will then work on formatting the page to look nicer and more organized.

  11. Admin(s) Key: @Esenno and in general
    Your ckey (Byond username): @Shaw
Your Discord name (if applicable): Shaw (Dahk Grel)

Date(s) of incident (GMT preferred): 09/03/2020 10:00 PM (GMT).

    Nature of complaint: Clarification Required/Feedback

Brief description: The admins who stand in as CC during rounds feel disconnected/Not up to RP standards as to how CC is supposed to be acting according to wiki/lore/etc.

    Full description of events:

On this particular round, as the magistrate, I decided to impose an injunction as part of a Civil Dispute upon a nurse who had been using a megaphone over common radio non stop since shift start. It was clear most of the crew found this to be annoying, and would not stop despite most of the crew voicing that they wished her to stop. I decided this would be a good opportunity to use the rarely used "Civil Dispute" section of Legal Standard Operating Procedure meant for grievances outside the scope of normal Space Law. Seeing as this grievance was affecting the entire crew, I decided to hold a public vote using the captain's communication console requesting all who wished for her to stop to simply say: "I"; instead of trying to jam pack everyone in the court room and ask for each crewman's opinion as that would've taken all day.

Upon seeing a good number of "I's" outweigh the "Nay's" I decided to go ahead and PDA the nurse a formal injuction which was along the lines of "Do not abuse the megaphone or else it'll be confiscated and you'll get a 5 minute sentence."  I thought this to be a fair and very minimal punishment should they decide to go against this injunction. Naturally they paid no mind to it and mocked me on the radio with the megaphone, so I had set their status set to search for sec to take their megaphone for breaching their injunction.

Around this time CC announces, "Clarifications on space law... So I was passing by our interns while they were monitoring the NSS Cyberiad's comms and laughing. Decided I'd listen in for a sec and... why are you worrying about a megaphone, Magistrate? It's not a space law issue it's just being annoying. Drop it before we drop you out of the station."

This is where I get confused as to why Central would make a public announcement publicly shaming the magistrate's ruling for taking the appropriate channels and steps following Legal Standard Operating Procedure for a minor Civil Dispute? I'm seeing these types of announcements more and more often lately, where CC will have only partial information and use said partial information to publicly shame who they believe to be guilty parties. A few other examples I've seen which I can only describe as "low rp" of CC:

*A handful of perma prisoners had escaped perma and their statuses had all been set to execute because of their escape. A security officer had baton'd an escapee and took the chainsaw the prisoner had acquired to field execute them. CC makes an announcement along the lines of "Security, chainsaws are not a legal method of execution, you should know better." The officer in postround_chat said they felt so embarrassed and didn't want to play security anymore because they thought they had genuinely done something wrong even though according to Space Law they used the discretion they are allowed to execute escaped perma prisoners.

*A captain had been ass faxing every department and I as magistrate, an IAA, and the NT rep all voiced that we disliked such conduct. We pulled the captain into their office to talk to them about it where the captain basically just said "so what? I'm going to ass fax you right now as you watch, I don't care". The NTRep wrote a complaint, I submitted a transcript of the meeting, and it was all sent to CC. But we never heard back from CC. No faxes or public announcements to discourage such impolite and unruly behavior for the captain of an entire station even though the grievance was attempted to be solved by the proper channels in house.

I know Paradise is not a HRP server but this type of behavior seems pretty lowbrow for an MRP server, where The Boss' Boss likes to take cheap jabs at anyone and everyone at every opportunity except for where it matters. I've seen half a dozen HoS'/Captains be ignored by CC when they are clearly breaking space law/SoP or just acting unprofessional/low rp for their position, but will shame/mock other players for even smaller grievances or in less important positions.

What I hope this complaint will solve:

If nothing else, for admins to take an extra minute or two when writing announcements as CC to reflect, "Is this something CC should/would say?"

  12. Idea: In the character creation screen, have an option to set your default suit sensors (maximum by default) so that you don't accidentally forget to turn them on/off mid game.

Why: Most people don't like dying and are pretty fond of medical finding their corpses and reviving them. Having the option to have suit sensors on maximum by default even from the pre-game lobby ensures that should someone die, they have a better chance of being found and revived. This works the other way around as well, having them off by default is probably the course for people who like playing antag and don't like helping security get that extra edge in being able to find them via suit sensors. And since the option would be from the character creation screen, it would carry over from game to game, so you don't need to manually adjust suit sensors every time.

    Coding Difficulty:  Easy-Moderate

Scope: Small quality of life change

Balance: It /can/ backire on antags who forget to turn suit sensors off, but its usually something all antags check for anyway

  13. building an aquarium wall for chef in the kitchen (they’d have to fill it though)

Connecting Jani closet with that room of paramedic gear cause why not?

dismantle decorations in escape and build the ultimate waiting area for when the Tesla is loose and everyone is hiding tired, scared, and alone

    check permabrig for false walls

delete space by building More Cyberiad

  14. Name of Event: (Death) Poker Night

    One Sentence Description: Poker Tournament!

Map Changes: Minor changes to the default map

Will this work with the standard NSS Cyberiad map? Yes, but we'd need to add some tables around the library, chapel, hallways, medical, and escape, as needed.

    Code Changes: No

Will this work with the standard Paracode base? yes

    Suggested Number of Players: <50

What type of population level would this be best for? Any number of players would be possible. Ideally 8-50 just so it doesn't drag on forever.

Full Description of Event: It's Poker Night! Bust out the cards, raid the ATM's and start up a game. Blinds steadily increase as time goes on making elimination happen faster and faster. Each time a player busts out, they can enter cyro, head to the arcade, holodeck, or just watch the rest of the games. (Optionally, make this a twisted Nanotrasen culling of staff and kill off any staff who bust out. Force them into the guillotine, out into space, feed them poison, be creative!)

Why: For those rounds where we don't really have that much players and you can tell things are gonna be slow. This would probably be a voted on thing.
