  1. Yesterday I we had a similar incident. Situation: Si'Makra, a great surgeon at Paradise, had his ribs broken and some internal damage. A surgeon fixed his internal organs (standard internal organ repair procedyre), and now, his ribs where to be fixed. What happened: No matter what we did, we could not get his ribs fixed. Damn anoying. three surgeons (including Me) and one chemist where painfully trying to help their colleague. [*]Regular procedure did not work... stopped around the bonegel - bonesetter somewhere... making the surgeons attacking the poor Si'Makra instead of aiding him... Blood everywhere... lots of pain. [*]We tried cauterise and start over again. [*]We tried re-putting him on the table. [*]We made sure no-one where pulling/grabbing him. [*]We made sure to heal his torso with trauma kits, and even bicardine, he had 0 brute when starting procedure. [*]He refused using anesthetic, which IC made things worse for Me, seeing his mistakes causing great pain in his friend. [*]Me refused to participate in the ridiculous "fail-fest", and recommended to cryo-tank him a little while before trying anew, leaving the theatre with a bad conscience. [*]Dunno if they gave Si'Makra a cryo-bath and re-tried... hopefully he got better. Anyone have any tips about such cases? Have had similar experience with patients having brain damage AND broken cranium. What do we do after one procedure have already been completed, and a second one needs to be done, without causing a ridiculous "fail-fest"?
  2. Fantastic, that was exactly what I was looking for! Gotta test it out asap. I've done the alien embroy extraction many times, but I usually don't use anesthetic (which may take a while to prepare). After watching the Alien movies, I don't feel it's bad roleplaying to just throw them on the table, scream "HANG IN THERE BUDDY!" and start opening them up as the embroy obviously are moving around inside them. It's also very fun having them roleplay fear and pain as the surgeon rushes the procedure, crossing his fingers it will be done in time. After closing them up, I always drag away the embroy, and let them know "It'll be alright" (unless embroy victims and aliens are swarming the theatre). Then I start regular procedure by scanning them and using anesthetics as usual for anything else... like broken ribs and such. Yeah, I believe it will take less time fixing multiple location at the same time, but I don't for two reasons. My character have a compulsive need to keep things organized and be totally focused on one thing at a time, so dual-wielding surgical tools is a no-go. Secondly, I also belive this is the safest (I feel REALLY bad every time i hurt someone unintentionally during surgery), minimizing the risk of making a mistake.
  3. Good day, Mebday. :!: Here are some notes to reduce frustrated surgeons and others performing surgery! NB: Don't use scalpel. An advanced trauma kit should be used to mend internal organs. Daniel Me (my character) would probably write a technical documentation about the following procedure below, calling it a "D-Me Bypass" (pronounced "Demi Bypass"), distributing it to Medbay in general. Internal organ damage (including ruptured lung) AND broken bones in chest (obviously) 1. (Optional) Complete Prepping for Surgery. 2. Aim for the chest in the Damage zone. 3. Use the scalpel to make incision. 4. Use the hemostat to stop any potential bleeding. 5. Use the retractors to open incision. 6. Use the saw to open the ribcage. 7. Use the retractors to open ribcage. 8. Use the advanced trauma kit to mend the organs. 9. Use the retractors to close ribcage. 10. Use bone gel to mend the cut ribcage. 11. Use bone gel again to mend the broken bone.* 12. Use the bone setter to put the bone in place. 13. Use more bone gel. 14. Use the cautery to seal the incision. *I can't say for sure that this step is nessecary, but this his how I've learned it and how I do it every time. I do know that there is a similar two-in-one procedyre for fixing both brain damage AND broken skull. I need a bit... *experimenting* to confirm those steps... If anyone know any more "nifty" procedures, I'd like to know em. I'll update this post when I learn more.
  4. Thanks Haddock. I still have a few things to learn though before mastering the art! I remember the Isabella character too. Yeah, hope we get to play more. It's fun getting to learn the "regulars" around Medbay.
  5. Hmm. Interesting. That's lot of qualifications and doctorates for a seven-teen year old human. What did the Company do to you...? For a regular 17 year old human, I believe (pure rpg-wise) it is ridiculous that anyone have all those qualifications and doctorates, and it also kinda is opposed to Rule #2. But as you probably already know this, and have something planned, I guess that how and why you aquired all these skills is classified? I did notice the "yearly body switch though"... so perhaps she is a LOT older than seven-teen? *dramatic music*
  6. Yeah, the same to you too! You have NO idea how many times how many times I was completely sure that you would kill Me. Alone at the theatre... alone in the mourge... alone in the maintenance tunnels... Me probably pissed his pants a few times though. Hawke is sort of a... Pandoras Box. It is cool do have one around, but poke it to much and you have NO idea what will happen!
  7. I've been playing a surgeon a lot lately, and I totally agree with OP. I belive that if you put a patient in the scanner, it will read "open", if there is an open incision. But this really don't indicate at which step in the current surgical procedure have been done, which is, as other have explained... problematic. Few things looks more unprofessional than a surgeon rifling through all the tools in the theatre and "experimenting" to save a dying patient.
  8. Good day, roleplayers! My name is Daniel, and I play (almost without exceptions) Daniel Me. I started playing the game after a few friends of mine explained hilarious stories about this game, and I just had to try it myself. I tried the game somewhere around january 2014, and this is the greatest computer-game I've ever played when it comes to potential fun/crasyness and pure replay-value. In the beginning I did not read the wiki, and was quickly spoken to by admins, but as I understood more about the concept aroud SS13, and the Paradise Station culture, I've really come to love the game and this server. Apart from that, I love learning new things, and getting real good at what I do. I starterd my character at Cargonia (Hail Cargonia), and after a few months I delved into surgery. Oh the fun I've had... I've never been antag, and probably will never choose to be one, unless I somehow run out of material and stop having fun being a productive and helpful worker! I might be somewhere in a grey area between antag and regular character... you kow, hacker, black-marketeer and such, something in the future - who knows!? Of couse I've been converted to revolutionary and cultist, and thats fun, as long as it is roleplayd. Normally I am suspectible to threats, trickery and manipulation if the roleplaying is done right. I usually don't ignore those efforts, and it's really fun (please don't take advantage of it and just plainly kill my character though)... just Ask Freestylalt aka Hawke Boertison... All those moments that character scared the shit of of Daniel Me, hah! How memorable it is! Also, I've learned the game reading wikis, asking players and admins. If I do something wrong, I probably have not learned to do it the right way yet. But I try to stay in character... Daniel Me don't know genetics, even though he is a Surgeon - so don't try to make him clone someone! Anyway, lastly I just wanna say that I am sorry for all those that died or got hurt at my surgery table! Either I was in the learning process, stressed out and made a mistake, or the wiki is wrong (perhapes even recent changes in coding). Patients with internal bleeding die fast (yes, I usually give them blood and inaprovaline). I'll always try getting these poor patients cloned whenever possible. Looking forward for more (crasy) fun shifts at Paradise Station where there always is new things to learn, great people to play with and helpfull admins avaliable! RP Challenge: If ya read on Me's profile about The Practice, and find the source from where it is inspired, there is great potential for some really horrible and dark roleplaying... Likes: [*]Good roleplaying, especially when doing a lot of improvisation. [*]Creating lasting relationships (good/bad) with other crew. [*]A productive shift! 8-) [*]Keeping everything clean, nice and tidy! [*]Professionalism. :geek: Dislikes: [*]Characters without a proper name, or those with a title in their names (exception being non-humans). [*]Breaking Rule #2 unless they have a good explanation why. [*]Antags who abuse the roleplaying element of other characters to kill them (without any roleplaying themselves). [*]Whoever gave that damn Clown "all-access"! [*]People who thank you with the business end of a circular saw, after waking up from extensive surgery.
  9. Yeah, great idea. Could be tricky to do, but very entertaining. Would be cool if ya could choose MPD under disabilities for your character. And this would be like waiting for a pAI do upload itself, just that instead - another player can become the MPD. Mabye a "trigger" or "spell-like" ability (with cooldown?) could take control? Thinking about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Mabye he head trauma or holy book can "switch" personalities. I'd totally choose an option for this once in a while. Mabye even psychiatrist coul'd cure it? Mabye we even could "remove" one of the personalities and stuff it in an (p)AI, MMI, cyborg or MP.

There is a significant loss in confidence when his balding hair is exposed, and thus, Daniel Me is almost never seen without some sort of headwear. Wounds: Lost both legs due to incident at Paradise Station at the locker room. During a crisis at the station shortly after, his legs were replaced with prostetics by, Medical Doctor Cryptic. Some time later, he was the victim of a magnetic and balding virus and extracted to CentCom and cured. His balding hair remains as a testament after the horrible virus. CRIMINAL RECORDS Daniel Me was let off with a warning by acting Captain and Security Officer at Sigurd Station for arresting an Assistant without following procedure. Nanotrasen have been monitoring his activites over the station through security cameras. During his re-education, Daniel Me have been observed tampering with Nanotrasen electronics including MULEs, airlocks, APCs, vending machines and autolathes, but no sabotage have been detected or recorded. Nanotrasen Central Command recommend keeping him under observation as his experience in variety of different fields might make him both an efficient resource to the station. Certain evidence also indicate an interest into the occult. Records from the library document his interest in something called “The Practice” and solving something called “The riddle of flesh.” Little information is avaliable on this subject at the moment. Daniel Me seems very productive and loyal, but also a bit to "free spirited" and naive to be given responsibility as a Station Head.
