  3. This speaks to me on an emotional level.

You can see from the liberal use of green that the artist feels comfortable with expressing their "greener pastures"; flaunting, just humbly enough, that they are on stable footing and not afraid to speak their mind. The brightly contrasting red shows us that the artist's life, much like even the poorest of pauper's, has strife.

    Very deep, very awe-inspiring.

    What? What's that?

    What's the blue for?

Er, well. I don't know. But it looks very neat.

  4. Yeah, I don't mean to piss on your parade, but none of this would really work, especially not on our station.

For starters, we don't have enough ruins for 5 explorers to make good use out of. You thought it was boring when it was near the end of the round? Yeah, welcome to an entire round of that, but with 5 people. You'd be in space for all of half an hour and then you'd be in cryo because you've done it all - and that's if the shift has rolled interesting ruins. Most of them are fluff, because it's not supposed to impact the game as much.

For seconds, you don't have to make it a department. That's not the point of the Cyberiad, it's not home to a flotilla of space pods. If you want to make a pod group and subsequent garage as a Mechanic that round, fuckin' a, go for it, fill that niche, it's your gimmick - but just because it's cool once or twice does not mean it's compelling for an entire constantly running departmental type. People would get burnt out of this wicked fast, and then you're back to one - maybe even zero - Mechanics; left wondering why it was even implemented at all.

If you want a more likely-to-be-implemented version of this, you'd be looking more at making Gateway Explorer a real job as opposed to "civilian with a deathwish".

  5. I'm the admin in question in this complaint.

I apologize that the inclusion of a Central Command officer was considered insulting and abusive, and I agree with sincerity that I have a lot to learn about tact when dealing with a generally shitty situation for all sides. I'm still - after months - not terribly certain where the line should be drawn when bringing an SOO on-station. Is it something for a severe "you fucked up" scenario? Is it for fun, small tidbits that make the crew feel like their company "cares"?

I confess I don't know. I also don't know how an SOO should be portrayed - like an omniscient that knows everything that occurred, or as someone who hears and reads what's given to them in a fax or on the radio and works with that?

In the end, it doesn't matter. I screwed up here, and I'm sorry you feel your reputation was "squandered", somehow - even though we're supposed to follow the "remember the good, ignore the bad" aspects, I understand our community doesn't always work like that, especially during something as public as a field demotion. Hopefully this doesn't discourage you from trying in future. A note was not applied to the account because I considered it more of an in-character roleplay sort of thing, rather than anything I should punish you OOCly for.

This isn't the first time I've made this sort of mistake as Cheriyaya; I do try to portray her as an actual character, as opposed to how I myself view a situation, but I suppose that's not how the regular player sees an SOO. I reiterate that I have a lot to learn in this regard. As such, I'll probably either delete her or put her on the very, very furthest back burner while I try to figure out the boundaries in place.

I look forward to hearing from the head admins about this, so I may learn or be punished appropriately. A player's voice is always important, and I'm glad it's being heard in this complaint.

You know, whenever I Sling'd. The only reason I couldn't outright murderbone security and other mindshielded people was because the admins always told me "Stop that." Nevermind the amount of light and other tricks the crew can pull. Now that shadowlings can't thrall mindshielded people. I can murder all the mindshielded people I want. Instead of a nerf, this is more like a buff, because now I have a valid reason to kill off security and hide their bodies permanently. Instead of a nerf, this is more of a buff for shadowlings. I don't know which admins thought this was a good decision for nerfing, but it really just means that our current shadowlings don't have to pull any punches. Mixed feelings.

That's not a good thing. Generally most of us don't want our antagonists to outright murder everything that remotely gets in their way.

Maybe a better solution to this is to prevent the potential for an early game locked in ascension by preventing slings from melting mindshields until they have a certain amount of thralls, or requiring one or two thralls to be present for the melting of a mindshield.

This would do wonders, honestly. I'd prefer this line of thinking over "well it's a playerbase problem, let's not change anything."

  8. aye, all the PR did was make killing security become the be-all end-all necessity that slings require in order to win the round. reverting it would probably be best, although it wouldn't change much in the end.

slings kinda suffer from being ass on either sides if you swing changes to them one way or the other. it sucks when slings recruit security because it's too easy, it sucks when they have to kill security because it's too hard. slings just...sort of suck, honestly, and they'd need an entire re-write.
