  1. As of the moment, the shadowling icons we have are of a rather generic, boring, bald human, with the only differences is on depending what eye color your character had previously.

I suggest that shadowlings are given different appeareances based on whatever species they previously were, where they keep the shape of their species, but with shadowling based variations..

    Examples are:

Humans - The boring, current shadowling sprite.

Unathi - Red glowy horns and frills/fins.

    Tajaran - Red glowing tails/whiskers?

Vulpkanin - Red glowing tail/fur markings.

Slime - Black, trasparent body with red glowing veins.

Vox - Glowing quills, tails, and beaks.

Drask - Red glowing eyes, along on making those weird arm things red and glowy.

IPCs (completely odd that IPCs can turn into a organic being, but oh well) - Red eyes/screens with glowing red wires on their bodies.

    Skrell - Glowing, red tendrils

I also suggest on maybe making the ascended version also have species based sprites.

  2. This will most likely be very controversial, but...

I think the hulk gene should be removed (or at least disabled so it can't be acquired via number means, such as through genetics).

Hulk gene is so overpowered, it resists almost all forms of stuns, and it can be used to break through almost everything (walls, reinforced walls, anything that can be destroyed).

Not only that, if it's coupled with any other equipment (hard suits, science garbage meme chems, traitor/antag abilities) it ends up even MORE overpowered. Hulk gene is also notoriously also abused by non-antags at times.

Even though the hulk gene makes the user end up having with their DNA very unstable, it's still very strong.

Hunting antags, unfortunately,  is kindof essential to AIs, specifically to satisfy their lawsets (e.g. no crew harm/no expenses), as antags are usually destructive to the station in one form or another, although it's certain that some AIs just do it to validhunt instead for the sake of the lawset.

I agree that a "Mr. Just in case" is the worst thing ever, both as a non-antag and as a antag. Not only is it crap towards the antags, it also looks competely unprofessional from a crew stand point, as doing something for "just in case" isn't a really valid way to do a job. I seen Warden's order weapon crates in green alert, especially ten minutes in the shift.

One phenomenon I've noticed is sec officers removing the security locker from the sec checkpoint at the start of every shift "to keep it safe".

The locker in that security checkpoint should honestly be removed. All Security mains would hate it, and it's literally there just for the free security radio access, stuns, and immunity to flashes and flash bangs for antags.

I also agree, random engineers who come into my area as a command member to reinforce stuff without even asking me or any staff in the department are annoying. I'd accept it if it was against the stupid greytide, but not for the reason to be a antag blockade.

When Scientist doesn't hand out everything to everyone, except being a antag? Most Scientists nowadays are decked with a magboots, bag of holding, a full tool belt, and that welding mask for.... what reason again? They never have a reason to have that nonesense, but they still equip said items. And when it comes to handing stuff out to random people, especially civilians or people that have no business with said items (e.g. magboots, experimental welder, CE tier tools like the jaws of life to a Civilian/doctor), they have no restraint.

  4. I am proposing two suggestions in regards of vampires, namely their mechanics.

    > Make glare go off any time - As of the moment (or at least to my current knowledge) the vampire glare only goes off if the vampire in question is adjacent to any mob. This means that it's almost a 100 percent guaranteed stun, as if the vampire is next to a person (or animal) the person in question will go down and have no chance to go against the vampire since the glare is almost fully effective.

I am proposing that the glare to be made so it goes off anytime it is called, being next to a mob or not.

    > Sleeping Carp incompatible with vampires - As anyone who had mained security or played a decent amount of security, and have encountered them, especially during that time where there were quite a bit of powergamers COUGH , vampires with sleeping carp is literally hell to deal with. There is almost no real tactics with dealing with sleeping carp, besides Security ganging on the vampire (which, unfortunately, is unlikely as Security is usually at some extent incompetent and disorganized), hope that the vampire somehow ended spaced and dead, or stooping low to crappy tactics (such as that grenade lance thing that has been mentioned or a pressure cannon full of shards).

What I am proposing is to make it so that vampires are unable to use the sleeping carp scroll on themselves, because a vampire with also a traitor status is considerably strong already.

  5. Don't forget about constantly flashing the Warden/Security into extreme loathing towards everything, while they try put you into permabrig!

Or, being a vampire with sleeping carp, security would love to destroy  you on the spot, burn your corpse and scream curses at you during the whole time for being stupidly overpowered you!

    Age: 27

    Gender: Male

    Race: Unathi

    Blood Type: B-

    General Occupational Role(s):

Head of Personnel, Chief Medical Officer, Captain, Coroner, Chef, Janitor.

Biography: Shesikor hatched in a distant, small mining and supply based station, non-affiliated with Nanotrasen. After reaching adulthood, Shesikor ends up accruing some debt, leading him to end up getting a contract with Nanotrasen. Before starting a employment with Nanotrasen, Shesikor decides to attend a Nanotrasen college to get some training (And getting even more debts). He ends up getting a minor degree in the medical area. After some years of being part of the medical system, Shesikor decides to return to college to study management (getting more and more debts from tuition).  As of now, Shesikor currently continues working for Nanotrasen, with no end to his contract in sight, although he gets the occasional work leave due to medical reasons.

Qualifications: Management, Bureaucracy, Medical treatment and surgeries, minor qualifications on station maintanance (cleaning, building).

Employment Records: Originally started working on Nanotrasen vessels as a Doctor, has progressed into management positions, with the occasional break from it. Previous records has also found that Shesikor was a minor salesman, although such employment has been found to run along of fraudulent and scam artist activities.

    * Minor Assault - Attacked someone that looked like a lawyer, thinking they were a "bloody corporate tax collector after my stationary supplies, money, and scales".

    * 56 Sound Complaints - Extremely loud yelling and screaming, usually towards other people. A moderate amount of the sound complaints that was recorded was after Shesikor entered a singing contest, complaint were filled three minutes within the time they started singing

    * Petty Theft - Found to have stolen some money after threatening someone to audit them. Said audit was found to be false and was in fact a old receipt for a lamp.

    * Forgery - Has been discovered in forgering a official corporate document with a degree of success, in a attempt to get more stationary supplies.

    Medical Records:

    * Poor Eyesight - Patient has been found to be suffering from a genetic based damage rendering the patient to require prescription glasses to be able to see. Has declined any medical alternatives to heal the damage due to "tax reasons" and "the bloody jerks in genetics would probably try to give me super poor eyesight."

    * Slight Madness - Extensive work and prolonged stress has led the patient to suffer from occasional, slight madness. Usually leads to the patient to have a higthened sense of paranoia, along with a decrease ability on social skills, has been found to be largely harmless.

Yeah cap really drop the ball. AI on wront lawset, he considered nuking the station, but after the BS couldn't open the vault door kinda gave up. He picked up the command remote door control, but just sat there at the bridge waiting for the end to come.

Also like half the crew was dead already and the only fax at central was "AI is not responding orders". AI had to beg CC for a ERT after cap died.

I believe I was the AI there. Captain completely neglected to give the Quarantine law. I was extremely relieved that the Captain left the communication console logged in (even though they died shortly before) to contact CC.

Appeareantly the Captain didn't request help from CC?

  8. With cult, chaplains are somewhat essentially, as they can provide quick access to holy water and be able to remove runes, if they have the null rod that is.

With vampires, while the chaplain is immune to their powers, chaplain isn't really essential in most cases, besides providing holy water for testing.

And with chaplains, roundstart vampires, which are usually very weak, are even weaker against the chaplains who not only are immune to vampire powers, but also have access to a weapon. In a lot of cases, chaplains would simply default to murder, the vampire in question cremated/left for dead, and the chaplain resulting uncharged for being a murderous vigilante (or complaining a lot if the rare occurrence of them being charged with murder).

  9. As it has said, Security has always been a subject of negativity of playerbases through the different SS13 and past times, but I think it should honestly be discouraged. Security already has to deal with antags (who often are ends up murdering for the loot or for 'muh greentext') and capturing and dealing with non-permabrig prisoners (who often times tends to be the sort of garbage/unpleasant players to deal with), they do not need someone demoralizing the whole department just because of one staff member happened to go out of line or made a hasty mistake at the last minute (which often happens) or some clique showing up and bringing some issues or said prisoners causing issues after they are released (like getting in the way of stuff later on or blocking/bolting/electrifying the brig entrances).

I believe these are some of the things that causes Security to have a very high turnout, along with a very small number of (often temporary) sec mains. It doesn't help that they tend to have a higher chance of getting killed compared to the other roles, coupled with the fact that once you are dead, most likely you are staying dead and doing nothing, there not being any interesting ghost spawns (pets usually tends to be unenjoyable, and maintenance drone can be interesting for so much), discouraging any security numbers.

While, as it has been said, the admins are supposed to be unbiased in most/all circumstances, I think there should be a neutral and polite tone to all the pms. During the times I have done security roles, I had only a small amount of pms with admins, and they were usually fact finding. But there was one pm that stood out in a negative way for me.

I was a Warden for that one particular round, and I ended permabrigging two EoCs. Since there were two EoCs that were brought in at different times, I hastily dealt with the first one to deal with the second one, which in turn led to me to accidentally forget to provide the first EoC a headset (they ended with none). I shortly after, I  get pmed by a admin after permabrigging the second EoC, mostly in regards of the lack of headset for the first EoC, and it was largely two to three pms in between. But when the admin in question finished with talking to me, the last pm they sent honestly felt negative towards me and (while it may had not been their intent) it made me feel discouraged to play Security for a while.

I think there should be a discouragement towards being shit towards Security in general, especially when its the same players doing it. These are my thoughts, and pardon that if it sounds negative.

  11. Vampires with carp are literally the worst thing to deal with as Security.

Not only do you have to get close to the vampire to the vampire, but chances are that you will end up being glared, a ability which in itself only activates if said vampire is next to a mob, making it a almost 100 percent guaranteed stun

And in most cases, the only few ways to deal with a vampire with carp is only if you gang up on them with several people, and that's if said people get organized, and chances are that by the time Security realize this, the vampire is already powered and with Security gear.

It honestly makes, a often times strong antag (if they survive into late in the round) a unbalanced antag

In my opinion, they shouldn't be able to be able to acquire/use carp at all.

  12. Why not make shadowlings be separate individuals?

Meaning that they do not communicate with each other, nor do they share the same thralls with each other or know the thralls of other shadowlings.

That way, they have to compete with each other and go beyond their abilities, since they are immune to their own abilities, instead of it just being mostly a shadowling vs. sec thing.

I never understood myself to why shadowlings would work together, since you are ascending to godhood, why should there be others to share/take your spot?

  13. This may not be as relevant now, given that I haven't played on the server on a while, but here are some points that may affect the number of security players:

Security valid to Antags: Security is often seen as valid towards antags, be it for their gear or that Security "gets in the way" of their objective. One of the main reasons I hate to enter maintenance, let alone leave the brig. This also tends to lead the station with little to no Security staff in some rounds, giving antags free reign.

Body/Brain disposal/destruction: Where antags just go and destroy your head/brain or cremate/gib/space your body. You may had been able to have called out the antag to Security, and maybe they ended being captured, but it seems moot to one while being near to or fully removed from the game. Another reason why myself never liked entering maintenance.

Powergaming: More so by antags than Security. Nothing is more than FUN!!! than dealing with a powergaming antag with riot shields, magboots, maybe Security gear and other RnD or similar equipment, right? Whenever I hear of a known, and I say this politely, powegamer being a antag, I just want to up and cryo, because chances are that they are going to steamroll most of the security department.

Greytide: Huge nuisance when things are heated (e.g. blue/red alert), insults you, or are broken out by other greytide while you were busy. Can range from annoying to demoralizing.

I honestly think antag behavior should be more regulated, less of a valid view on Security, discourage the destruction/disposal of their body, and less powergaming, because why play Security if you are just going to be killed, have your body removed or destroyed? And double points if it's done by those who always seems to take those approach.

And on greytide, they should have more severe sentences/punishments.

  14. So a long time back, as a Warden (it seems I tend to encounter incompetent security staff as a Warden), I start getting ready and whatnot. I don't hear any introductions in the security channel, and I start getting worried. I pull up the Crew manifest and see that we have several security staff, including a Vulpkanin HoS, who speaks a moment afterwards. Everything goes well for a while, only worried a bit about the HoS late response on somethings and extended silence.

After about 30 minutes, Central Command contacts the Captain that they are sending something (top secret) for 'safe keeping'. I notice the HoS didn't relay any orders to the Security Officers to go and ensure said object was secured and kept descreet, so I had to request the Officers to do so (the HoS shortly relayed this to the Officers).

During this time, I was really nervous, because I thought it would be that SCP statue thing. It turns out it was just a secured crate, which was then placed in the AI upload.

Things went quiet, me nervous that whatever was in that crate would turn out to be some sort of deadly entity that would escape and kill us all.

30 minutes later, I hear calls of Nuclear Operatives attacking the Bridge, telecomms then shortly goes down. I quickly arm the Officers and wait to see what happens.

15 to 20 minutes has passed, with no information from the Bridge attack, I was tempted to leave the Brig and check, until I see the HoS. I thought all went well, and that the Operatives were dealt with, given that the HoS came to the Brig, with no visible injuries. I approach them and ask them about the Bridge Operatives. They say "Is that still going on?"

    FACEPALM

I just died a bit in the inside when they said that. Shortly afterwards, telecomms came back on, the Operatives dealt with, and me being extremely questionable about the competency of the HoS. Eventually, the HoS brings in some people into the Brig, which they did some dumb stuff, which didn't count as a crime. I point this out to them, irritated at the fact that they were wasting time, they threaten me with demotion for being "disrespectful" (which technically was disrespectful, but it doesn't count if they are clearly incompetent). Ten minutes pass, the person still in the Brig, and the HoS still not doing anything about it. Eventually, I get fed up on this, I tell off the HoS on how incompetent they are. They walk out, and I release the person in the Brig.

As I close the airlock to the Brig after letting the person out, I notice a huge, red wanted square over me. The HoS then states that I am to be demoted for being disrespectful. I say to myself "NOPE, NOT GETTING DEMOTED BY A INCOMPETENT IDIOT". At that moment, the worst happens, Pandora's box the Secure crate from Central Command ends up being opened, which was some sort of explosive device (it lagged the game very bad) and it destroyed the Gravity Generator.

So there I was, trying to move around with no gravity, with terrible lag, the HoS trying to taze me down, me trying to taze the HoS down, Beepsky after me for the wanted warrant on me, explosions from the south, me trying to unset my arrest, me also trying to set the HoS to arrest. Then both of us running out of tazer charge, me charging towards the HoS with a baton, Beepsky chasing the HoS down for their newly set arrest status, the HoS running out into the lobby.

Eventually, Beepsky gets the HoS in the Brig Lobby, and I grab them and take them to the Brig. The Pilot comes by and the HoS tells them to arrest me, the Pilot says no, they also seeing the HoS as being incompetent.

Shortly afterwards, the round had to be restarted due to the severe lag caused by the crate being opened.

  15. Usually, for a long time now, a certain amount of people usually end up rolling antag a lot in a row. This doesn't usually bring much diversity from the same players who keep rolling antag, especially if they are the kind that are notorious in killing all of security/command.

My suggestion is to add a "cooldown" or less chances for a player to roll antag after being one. This would give a chance for other players to try also to be an antag.

  16. It was a changeling round, I started of as a Life Support Specialist (and a changeling). I had the Chief Engineer as a target, and was unsure how to deal with them.

Until my other partner, a Atmospheric Technician, mentions that he thinks that there is a changeling in the engineering department. At that point, I smile evilly internally, a plan hatching.

About five to ten minutes after my partner mentions his fears, I approach him and have some small talk, before telling him that the CE is rather suspicious, wandering around maintenance and being rather quiet. Then I mention they may be a changeling, and the reaction of my partner is nervous and of being unsure about it. I tell him that, for our protection, we should investigate if the CE was actually a changeling.

We hatch a plan (fake plan for me) on luring the CE to the turbine, stunning them, and cuffing them, in a attempt to provoke some sort of changeling behavior from them (I was evilly laughing internally how I had the Atmos Tech all tricked). I go get some cable cuffs and two stun prods.

We go to the turbine, I set up two chairs, my partner oblivious or unconcerned with the presence of the second chair. We call in the CE, to "get a opinion on the turbine setup". They come in, I mute sting them and stun them, cuffing them to the chair. During that time, my partner exclaims at the CE to give up the act. Moments later, I mute sting and stun my partner, cuffing them to the second chair. I remove their headsets.

I proceed to tell them that, yes, there was a changeling in the turbine, but it wasn't the CE, it was me the whole time. I tell them kindly that they both will be disposed of, and that I was hungry.

As I start to absorb the Chief Engineer, I discover the Security team running towards the turbine (I had thermal eyes, and I was unsure to how I was discovered). Knowing how changelings are dealt with by Security, and that I didn't have much offense abilities ability, I split and jump into the turbine disposals (Security for some reason went after my cuffed partner, stunning him, giving me the chance to escape).

I end up floating out into space. I quickly replace my coat and hat with a space suit set I found earlier, which I discover was fake. I end up "dying" and reviving, all the way to the derelict, where I stayed for the short duration of the round.

I wasn't able to complete my goals, but I had some satisfaction on my evil plan and in tricking my partner.

  17. How about something for each species diet? Repeatedly eating a food their species doesn't eat could make them sick (making them vomit/get food poisoning), some food gives them a bit hunger satiation, while specific ones gives them more hunger satiation.

    Humans: Omnivore

Can eat almost all food stuff.

    Unathi: Carnivore.

Moderate or high nutrition gain from meats.

Can get sick and get no nutritional gain from fruits or vegetables.

Small nutrition gain on everything else

    Vulpkanin:

Somewhat same as Unathi, but should have a slightly different favored/hated foods or Omnivore (?).

    Tajaran:

Similar to Unathi, but with slightly different favored/hated foods.

    Skrells

A fish diet could give a good amount of nutrition gain.

Regular non-fish meats could make them sick.

Regular/low food gain from everything else.

    Diona

The H2O stuff and light is good for them?

Eating anything makes them sick? (Are Dionas even able to eat?).

Science ones.... are already in science lockers.

There's only 2 to 3 science lockers, and departamental lockers usually only have one department headset.

  20. Currently, there is a limited/less accessible headset/keys for those who transfer to a department (specifically the service, genetics, and science ones), especially if there is high pop.

My suggestion is to provide the HoP/Command team a machine that prints out specific headsets (I would say no to Bowman headsets, given that security has a abundant number and is a bit of sensitive equipment) or it's keys if you swipe a ID with a specific job (e.g. Geneticist ID gives you a science medbay one, Janitor ID gives you the service one, etc.).
