So I live in the USA (Midwest) and have flown out to the West Coast to help a friend move back to my town. I'll be driving cross-country with him to bring his car home. We're planning on taking a southerly route through the states - think Los Angeles to SW corner of Arkansas in terms of the parts that's up for grabs.

Those who have been in the Southwestern quarter of the US, any ideas about stuff worth seeing/experiencing besides the road?

So far, our thoughts include such large and small things such as:

    - Grand Canyon

    - Yosemite

    - Sequoia Nat'l Forest

    - In & Out Burger

    - Places featured in "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives"

(Yes, three national parks, a fast-food chain and good, cheap, restaurants. Good views and good eats. Priorities.)

Also, any ideas on good unique souveniers besides the usual kitsch you can find on such a trip?

I cracked up when I saw that happen. I mean it was funny for its sheer WTF value. I was dealing blackjack in the bar and that's where Joey ended up when the server became death.

He spammed his comms message in local chat like 40 times as the explosions went off, taking a page from yet another rockstar griefer, the Furry Freedom Force.

    What an idiot.

  3.

And it's more or less a way to deny other antags the chance to revive their friends.

Less. Do surgery to remove it. This addresses the problem that medical and security don't share subchannels and the green light on a tray typically means "GO" to a doctor. Yeah, yeah, incinerate or space, but this provides a new option that actually provides a better chance of revival for an antag than those.

So I think that was like my third round or so after being unbanned and I had sec officer on medium for some deranged reason before I got banned, I was like "shit, I don't want to play this job, bad things happen." So I changed into a botanist, so glad did even though somebody broke in and took a hatchet from me...

But at the end of the round some dude ic named Joey yelled in game about jayfeather being shit and then welder bombed the whole station

Nobody yelled anything, and if they did it wasn't even over radio.

Actually the guy did yell a crazy rant, on the radio over general comms. I was there. He blamed Jayfeather. There were like 5 screenshots floating around, including this one:

You can see Joey's comms rant in the screenshot there. Whoops.

Security doesn't have access to the morgue, so I don't know what this whole "cloning implant" thing is.

Just label your morgue trays, and if you're not doing that you're not doing your job correctly.

Also, genetics is a crap department as it is.

I'd rather they had nothing to do with medical, and didn't even have access to the cloner (They don't use it anyways).

The cloning implant suggestion prevents medical from cloning a body that has been executed/killed. You can go to the suggestions page yourself to actually read it before rejecting it before even seeing the idea. Go, provide your expected dose of snark and say "strongly oppose."

But it's gotten some +1's so you may have to call the rest of your frownface brigade this time.

The more likely to be implemented suggestion is "make more toolbelts available at fixed spawnpoints at roundstart."

I'd support an extra toolbelt in primary tool storage, wardrobe, secondary tool storage, cargo should really have one for every member of supply, also.

  7.

Regardless, there should be some sort of work around so that the person could end up back in the game. Whether that is an emag ability, or something else, needs to be discussed.

It's an implant. It can be surgically removed. High risk, high reward.

This needs to be a thing but I really do not think there be any changes to the morgue tray colors.

The benefit I see of a different tray color is that there's a paper trail for the admins to follow when someone ahelps with "HALP! I'M DEAD IN THE MORGUE BUT I'M ACTIVE - MY TRAY IS COMING UP RED BUT I'M HERE!" (or "HALP! MY TRAY IS GREEN AND THEY AREN'T CLONING ME!")

Can anyone comment on the potential coding difficulty for this implant? I imagine it would at least be moderate difficulty as this is an implant that interacts with two different pieces of equipment (cloner and morgue trays).

I mean, come on. It's NanoTrasen.

I don't want fascism on this server.

Are you sure we don't have something awfully close to fascism on this server already? And I don't mean the fun-killing admins. I mean Nanotrasen.

I'm not going to go all political philosopher here, but a case can well be made that the political system we are in IC is one or two degrees short of fascism. The understanding I have of the backstory is that Nanotrasen isn't just our employer but very much administers all aspects of the lives of employees and their families. The Syndicate organization is a little more extreme but is yet another "great power" in space.

It's still pretty darn right wing that a corporation with a profit motive coordinates all elements of society. And if you look at a lot of elements of fascism, many are there here. Extreme nationalism. Uniting against a common enemy. Highly dangerous tactics that endanger life and limb of the people to accomplish goals. Regulation and censorship. Forcible suppression of any any all opposition to the state (404, Death squads...).

I mean, the Syndicate is closer to fascism in their tactics.

Of course, Nanotrasen would want us to think that, right?

On another thread, it was lamented how medbay often isn't told that a corpse dropped off by sec shouldn't be cloned. So that's where I'm starting from.

Here's the suggestion. A box of implants, either out in the armory at roundstart or in the Warden's office, that can be implanted in a body of an identified antag killed or executed. The implant will prevent the body from being scanned in the cloner and will turn morgue trays either red, or a unique color (orange, blinking red, yellow, etc). The implant can be surgically removed and then the body cloned, of course, but since medbay and security don't share each other's comm channels, this is an easy way to communicate "this body should not be cloned." Also this would eliminate the need for coroners to manually label bodies "DO NOT CLONE." I'd suggest the coroner be given a box as well, but that would be too OP for a potential antag member of medbay to get their hands on, and would almost certainly result in griefing preventing cloning. So keep it in the hands of the loyalty implanted to prevent such an occurance.

I really like everything put forward in the original post. I was a proponent in a past thread for Vox to become a side-antag because it's non-sensical that the round abruptly ends when the Vox leave. Since the Vox only tend to interact with a mere fraction of the crew, the rest of the crew get a sudden, often unexpected halt to their round. Not fun when you've invested that time in your job to suddenly get the scoreboard in your face.

I think that the Wryn idea is great and can be something that can stand alone or work fantastic with an adminbus. Wryn have a kidnap objective, but Comms Officer Jenkins would love to get his hands on some useless relic (or fantastic weapon) that he contacts the Wryn and orders station heads to hand over all male Vox on the station to meet the kidnap objective for the Wryn so that Jenkins can get his prize. So it would end up being a Wryn vs. Crew vs. CC round, not just the first two. Would add a unique spin on the gamemode if an active admin played CC.

As someone who is highly skeptical of the US in general, I find this positively hilarious.

Also the fact that apparently your police forces think this is so utterly inconsequential they can just afford to wait until they get bored/hungry/laden with dysentery.

I think our agents are so afraid of the optics of these far-right radicals going down in a blaze of glory and becoming martyrs ... and of the disaster that was Waco, Texas...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waco_siege

However, I feel the feds should have arrested these guys much sooner. Like I mentioned and a lot of people have suggested, if these men were black, we would have gone in there immediately.
