Flare guns

A simple idea for miners. Both loyal and traitorous.

Add two flare guns and flare ammo for them.

Flare gun - cheap red plastic single shot flare pistol which can fire flare round to light the area. Small enough to fit in any pocket and can fit on the belt/inside suit slot of hardsuit. You get it from mining vendor for 800 points. You can buy a box of flare shells here as well. You can also get a Flare gun kit for your mining voucher which replaces current obsolete mining scanner option. It contains flare gun itself and spare flares. Flare gun can be chambered with shotgun shells but have a high chance to blow up in your hands when fired - breaking bones in your hand at best and blowing it off at worst.

Military flare gun - good old soviet military flare gun made of gun steel. Same size of flare gun but with ability to safely fire shotgun shells - its effectively a compact single shot shotgun pistol. Its availible in the uplink for traitorous miners.

Flare shell - tiny but bright flare fitted inside standart shotgun shell. You can load it inside any flare gun or fire it from any shotgun. Lights a small area just like emergency flare but for shotter time. Immune to shadowlings skreech. Deals tiny amount of burn damage when it hits someone and set people soaked in flameable liquids ablaze.

I like it but lets mod it! A metal pipe to replace the barrel, so it have no change to back fire on you and hurting you, turning it into a single round shotgun but the downside to replacing the barrel with a metal pipe makes it longer so you cant hide it in your pocket but you can still wear it on your belt slot, and make it so that if the flare rounds hits a shadowling then it do a shit load of damage.

P.s. whats wrong with the mining scanner???

You get one advanced miner scanner in your locker for free now. That voucher option is no longer needed. It was valid in the past when miners started out with simple scanners and had to actually buy automatical one.

Also I dont think its a good idea to make flaregun upgradeable. That would make it a very very greytide weapon while military flaregun is a strictly traitor weapon. We also have makeshift shotgun already, the problem is that its reciever can be only made in protolathe.

well then lets break apart the flare gun and get a shotgun receiver from it, then they have to hunt down for the other parts.

Thats sounds like a better idea. Its easier to get flare gun from miner buy buying or tradiing one. Also would make it availible not only to science who have no need in makeshift shotguns - they can just make better weapons anyway.

Ya cuz right now you cant not make the makeshift shotgun without someone in command knowing about it, hell, by the end of the round the nerds in R&D have all the best weapon ready and loaded and just waiting for the end game credit to do some mass killing..... The solo reason i want to the the makeshift shotgun more easy to get is for self defends or incase of xenos easy long range weapon to make, and making a receiver for a shotgun is easy you know, there even no trigger receiver where you can just cover a end of a pipe with a cap and have a nail at the it that been flatten at the tip and there you go you had made a gun that can fire shogun shells all you need to ram the shell into the flatten tip of the nail.

Why not have a one size fits all flare gun with barrel inserts that convert it to 12 gauge. The inserts could be removed with something like a screwdriver and can be re-inserted without any tools. I think 3 possible conversions that would make sense to add are an official mining one that would probably be way overpriced and turn the gun into a carbine style, aka have both a slightly longer barrel and stock, a "greytide" version made with pipe, cables, a welder and a lot of time, and adds a long grey tube to the end when inserted, and a syndicate version which is has a barrel that is the same size as the normal barrel, making it a lot stealthier then either of the other two versions. Plus why not have the vender also stock 0 pressure rounds in both 12 gauge and 37 mm (or whatever size the flare is) that would work in a similer fashion to the kinetic Accelerator.

Hello, its me again, I made a prototype.

BbgoE35.png

It can shoot the new 37mm flares, has 3 barrels that convert it to a shotgun, and a box for the new 37mm flares. I know the sprites may not be the best, but its something I made in a couple hours. It also does count as a normal flare so it will disrupt shawdowlings. It also does 20 burn damage, this will probably need to be adjusted for any final release. If you want to try it out, please use this link.

To test out, you need to make a copy of the paradise code, drop off flare.dm in \Paradise\code\modules\projectiles\guns\projectile, ammo.dmi in \Paradise\icons\obj, and projectile.dmi in \Paradise\icons\obj\guns. Then you need to compile it in dream maker and launch it with dream daemon. It can only be spawned with game panel as of right now.

The barrels are just fine, the hand grip can be better but it will do, and the flares are just fine :D

this is give us a new weapon to fight the shadowlings! we can shoot them with fire!

I have to point out that just making metal insert into barrel would not make flare gun combat worthy. It would still blow up when combat shells are used. However conversion kit to fire some more specialised shells from vendor sounds like a good idea.

Maybe chance of blowing up would be reduced still.

So if you want proper one-shot shotgun pistol you would still need a military full-metal flare gun.

I think that the NT and syndicate made ones could have a reinforcement plate for the back to prevent blowouts. After all, these would be professional kits. Although these could also be bought separately and might give the gun a slightly different look if that would be better. As for the breach, the barrel would act as a new breach, as there are real examples of this.

I do agree that any home-made version should have a high chance of blowing up.

Hey, an update on the prototype.

WSAjklp.png

Added a new breech system. There are now two replacement breeches and in addition to the "old" plastic one, a normal version and a syndi version. The normal replacement breech adds a bigger release lever and a front sight. The syndicate version lacks these to keep it looking like a plastic breech. With the new breech system, I added a new 37mm round. This round will cause the gun to blow up if there isn't a metal breech put in. When you replace a breech, it drops the old one on the floor or in your hands. Also did some work on the sprites.
