NT bodyguard and free lance mercenary? job roles

Hey! I really like the bodyguard idea cause just getting the HoP to change your name from sec officer to bodyguard doesn't really give much trust towards the person you want to protect, I think you should get a choose with who you want to protect.. obviously should be one of the heads first! Or maybe CC send a random person for you to protect each round.

You'd spawn in with handcuffs and taser similar to detective maybe (non-lethal), you could also double as a assistent since you'd be a "NT" bodyguard.

But I don't see much happening with mercenary because it'd still be a non-antag and you can't do much different than what a civilian can. Or maybe the mercenary can be the first bridge between non-antag and antag because you could be used to do someones dirty work for them, for a price of course.

Or maybe it could be more of a bounty hunter role, that'd be cool or clearing the asteroid for the miners. keep carps away from the station? similar to pod pilot maybe too?

But please let me know? suggestions? good idea? shit idea? plausible?

All ye said about the "bodyguard" is filled by a job called Blueshield. His job is to protect the heads by any means and escort em around the station.

When it comes down to life and death, blueshield must always choose a head to save, before security guard, scientist, clown etc. If couple of heads are downed, HoP, Captain and CMO, Blueshield must save em according to Chain of Command (Captain, HoP and then the rest).

Hmm.. Merc job would be interesting, have a outpost in space, wait to be contacted by a traitor/ling/vampire or even nuke ops to distract the station. In term of equipment maybe have similar system to the syndies that ye order stuff... scrap that, CREDITS! Would give meaning to traitors money bag, have more use for ATMs, briefcases and mercs can use them credits to buy themselfs equipment. Lazors, tasers, armor, meds etc.

Since Mercs are neutral until someone pays them, station could hire em to explore gateways missions (moon outpost has xenos so maybe clear em out ( tough as fuck, if ye do not know what yer doing)), recover the white ship for the station etc.

Bodyguards already exist... In terms of Mercs... Ok... So...

I'm not sure how much things change with time, but I've been roleplaying online for 8 whole years. Medieval, Modern, Sci-fi, Post-Apoc, weird ass fictional steampunk universes, movie/book universe stuff. I've seen quite a bit.

And in all of them, there's always a group of people that want to go the badass neutral mercenary role, the middle man, the assassin, the whatever. And, out of experience, it never works. Ever, not once. Occasionally there will be a good bruiser or mob man, but they're generally aligned with something.

There's a clear line between good and evil on this station (maybe not in the LORE, but confined to JUST the space station, there are clear good guys and bad guys). It makes the players lives easier, the admins lives easier, etc. Adding a neutral party of heavily armed Mercs that don't have a side will make things much harder. And those are just surface problems.

Also we have ERTS and they fill the role of shit-fixers just fine.
