    Crime: Grand Lipsticking

Description: To forcibly apply lipstick to another crew member without their consent

Notes: If the color of applied is a crime against fashion, the offender may be sent to perma for twice the normal duration and/or executed twice, at the discretion of command.

Allow crime stacking but also make times for individual sentences much lower.

Minor 1-3 minutes medium 3-5, and major 5-8 minutes. This means individual crimes on minor offenses are not bad but major crime doers can get punished harder.

Repeat offender- extra minute each reoffense

Remove Resisting Arrest and add Sparking a Manhunt. Every minute spent chased adds another minute to the final sentence.

My take on these changes to Space Law.

    The Good:

I would like to see more punishment for Repeat Offenders.
The way it's written in Space Law now, they have to commit the exact same crime three times to start racking up penalties.
I'd like to see that be 3 or more incarcerations of any 2XX (or greater) codes.
Get hauled in for 102 Battery as often as you want, no Repeat Offender modifiers ever.
Get hauled in for 202 Assault, then later hauled in on 204 Possession of a Weapon, and then later still hauled in on 207 Robbery, and the Repeat Offender should start applying and stacking.

I do think Sparking a Manhunt is good on paper.
In practice, a manhunt is often conducted for someone already destined for Perma or even Kill On Sight.
In these cases the penalty is obviously a moot point. The time spent on the manhunt is also a point of argument.

I think this idea could be salvaged if Manhunts were defined as the HoS making an announcement,
    and the penalty was to double the penalty from the code (1XX = 0-10, 2XX = 10-20, 3XX = 20-30).
Why the HoS would declare a Manhunt over a 1XX code, I don't know. (Hunting for Husky Biggins for a 105?)
But determining if 'Sparking a Manhunt' applies (Did the HoS make an announcement?) and the penalty (What crime sparked the manhunt?) are crystal clear.

    The Bad:

    Crime Stacking

Security often has a hard enough time getting it right in binary (Did they do it? Yes/No)
Asking them to figure out the number of charges that get stacked seems too far an ask.
    Moreover, proof for multiple charges is complicated;

Captain saw you breaking bridge windows; that's an obvious 100 Damage to Station Assets.

Now there are four windows broken, each of the two greytiders say they only broke one.
Captain says she saw one of them hit all four, break two for sure, maybe a third, and the other one broke one for sure and maybe two.
She thinks it was the one in the green jumpsuit who broke two maybe three, but she's not 100% on that.
    Just writing this paragraph was a nightmare; now try to parse it and hand out sentences to the greytiders;
while greytiders scream Shitcurity Stacking Charges! ILLEGAL! and a Mime is breaking out of his cuffs in processing
because the damn detective who brought him in a 102 Battery charge left 10 minutes ago without telling anyone anything.

    Time Changes

The 1-3, 3-5, 5-8 times are more complicated than 5 per severity level, so I prefer them as they are now.
I think it also gives security more flexibility in terms of soft/hard punishments.
For real jerks, even slapping them with 15 for 300-level violations sometimes doesn't feel like enough.

    Remove Resisting Arrest

No, let's keep 109 Resisting Arrest.
I'd like to see it defined as committing 102 Battery or worse for the purpose of delaying or preventing, arrest or brig processing.
That is, breaking cuffs or running away wouldn't be a 109,
but disarming the officer, knocking the officer down, or any worse attack would be a 109.

If you want to RP differently, maybe PLAY one of those other races you don't usually play. Or just think up a different character, or do LITERALLY ANYTHING EXCEPT BECOME A MURDER-BONING RACIST PSYCHOPATH.

I had a character on Oracle whose backstory included narrowly surviving a malfunctioning AI on a different station.
Due to the trauma, she didn't trust artificial intelligence of any stripe (AI, Cyborg, IPCs, etc.) and barely tolerated dumb bots (beepsky, floor, med, etc.) if they didn't come too close.

It seemed interesting on the surface, but a few rounds showed the character concept to be pretty shallow.

It mostly ended with her in the brig for sabotaging AI cameras and destroying dumb bots, and IPCs wondering what the hell they had done to deserve being threatened by this woman.

This has been a bit consistent for a few years now, where Security, specifically new ones to the server for some reason goes and takes the bodies of dead vampire to be cremated in the chapel.

This behavior, from what I gather, seems to come from some other servers that does have vampires, but their mechanics are a bit different where they are able to revive after a short while after being killed (while ours do not).

Not only is cremating the body of a vampire crappy to the vampire player, but it also removes all chance for the vampire to be properly "processed", meaning that if later evidence is found that a vampire didn't kill a person/isn't found to be powered, the vampire in question is pretty much hosed as they have no way of being revived.

My suggestion is adding a part to Space Law with disallowing the usage of the cremator on non-changelings, standard EoCs (as in traitor and vampire),  and (along with probably tying in the gibber in) pointing out it's usage in terms of changelings.

In my experience in Security and Command, vampires end up falling into two categories:

    1. Discovered, tased, caught, holy water'd, (hopefully extinguished), and thrown in perma.

Occasionally, I do see a vampire holy water'd without an extinguisher nearby, and the vamp burns to death.
In these cases, I try as much as possible to steer people to cloning the vampire.

    2. Very robust, very powerful, killing civilians and security with impunity.

These are quite obviously uncontainable, and legitimate kill-on-sight execution targets.
These vampires, being obvious execution targets, I do recommend for the cremator if they are killed.
Security usually doesn't want to take the risk of another round of murderboning, and the EoC made their own bed by going loud.
I think it would be a funny ahelp conversation to read:

    Vampire: Halp, they cremated me!
Admin: You killed 20 people, a 1/5th of the station population.
Vampire: So you're not gonna ban them?
    Admin: *facepalm*

And chaplain because (and this is purely my opinion, so of course I'm bias) nearly every other chaplain I see is either greytide with free weapon or DEUS VULT ALL THE [insert player race here]!!!! I like to think that me sticking as a "serious" chaplain will lead to both a better view on chaplains and others being inspired to get deeper into chaplaincy.

This is nice to see. The character I usually play (Katlyn Hudson) follows Space Daddy because there was one round (a Nations round, no less) where she needed to have a funeral for someone gibbed by a Wizard. The Chaplain on at the time was a Chaplain of Space Daddy. The conversation went something like this:

Katlyn: I need a Chaplain to hold a service for someone who died.
Genny: Most people reject my religion.
Katlyn: I have no problem with any religion, I just want to honor the dead.
Genny: We'll hold a service in the chapel.

Because there was a Chaplain who took their time to do their job RP wise, and because they seemed to be a bit of an underdog in terms of acceptance, I decided to have Katlyn adopt support for the religion because it had supported her.

Later, the religion of Space Daddy was mostly banned on the server; it strayed a little too close to the rules against ERP.
Not in the sense that there was explicit erotic content, but it invoked enough discomfort for the admins to say: Yeah, No.

Katlyn continues to follow it, in a "Replace the term 'God' with the term 'Space Daddy' when talking" sense.

Once, it actually came up in RP. Katlyn was Captain and there was a Chaplain of Khorne who kept building rage cages in the chapel.
Katlyn made an announcement that religious diversity was valued, but rage cages were against space law and had to be dismantled.
The Chaplain came to the bridge to argue for the rage cages, with another follower accusing Katlyn of trying to ban the religion of Khorne.
Katlyn said, "You think it's easy following Space Daddy in a Nanotrasen environment? Not really, but I make do and find a way to make it work under Space Law."
We worked out a compromise where followers could beat themselves to fulfill the bloodletting part of the religion, no rage cage needed.

So yes, I'd love to see more Chaplains who take the effort it RP it. And thank you for taking on that role.

Basically, which job do you like to play most?

I liked Medical Doctor, especially surgery and saving people until the 'New Crit' changes began.
I don't actually have an opinion on New Crit itself, because I've never played at trying to doctor it.
The community environment that I saw around the changes was so toxic that I turned off medical roles.
I don't want the drama, and I do want things to settle. I want to have a comfortable 'correct' way to play a doctor again.

I like playing Bartender because I charge for drinks. (10 credits/each, cash only)
You'd be surprised how many people come into the bar and balk at the charge.
At least two shifts, I've had people trash the place over not getting free drinks!
One cool shift, somebody won 10,000 credits on the slot machine, put it down on the counter, and said "Drinks are now free."
The secret to the gimmick is that anybody who takes the effort to RP, even a little bit, can get free drinks from me.

I like playing all the Security roles, mostly because it's difficult to get right, but very important to get right.
Bad shitcurity can wreck the round for dozens of people without even trying.
One of my favorite rounds was telling people "On Green, we don't cuff or tase if they come willingly."
And an officer did just that, asked, a mime to come in for questioning.
The Mime came in, sat down, and LOOC: First time security has ever asked me, karma point for that.
The officer got the karma, but the LOOC was worth more than 20 karma points to me.

I was worried about playing Head of Personnel for a long time.
The first time I tried the role, a civvie agreed to be my 'assistant' and tutored me on the role.
Turns out it wasn't so bad, mostly just 15 minutes of scrambling followed by an hour and half of boredom.
Mind, this was before the greytide influx. These days it's more like a never ending line and you have no jobs to give out.
I've had two pretty negative Head of Personnel rounds recently, so I've switched the role off for awhile.

Recently my favorite role has been Captain.
I never played it on Oracle, because I didn't feel like I had enough experience at SS13.
Also, some of the Captains that I encountered on Oracle were absolutely terrible.
So with some trepidation I jumped into the role.
Turns out the job is difficult, but in a completely different way from most jobs.
On most other jobs, the task is clear and you just have to do it.
Captain is on the bridge and knows almost nothing about what's going on.
So the job is to discover your job; gather necessary information, set direction, and empower other people to do their jobs.
Depending on who is on your team, this ranges from extremely easy to extremely difficult.
A good Blueshield is easily worth their weight in plasma.

I have never unlocked any karma picks, but I'm thinking about unlocking Blueshield and Magistrate.

Problem with a hostage situation is it pretty much requires the hostage to "play along" and with how killhappy some are on this server, most people have a natural reaction to scream for help on comms and spam scream once caught. I'm not saying its impossible...some people will play along...its even possible if they don't but it just makes things more difficult. But yea...kidnapping is a hell of alot more interesting than outright killing.

Playing along can be fun too.

There was one round where Asrair Ziesuzuo was a vampire, and I was playing Katlyn Hudson, Security Officer.

I came across Asrair in maint and was quickly stunned, cuffed, and stripped of my headset.

Katlyn: Don't do this to me, I'm a good person.
Asrair: If you stop struggling, I'll take your body to Med Bay.
    Katlyn looks defeated.

Asrair drained all my blood out, ditched the body in Med Bay by the cryotubes, then tipped off security like they were helping to hunt the vampires!

After I got cloned, I PDA'd Asrair with OOC markers to ask:
((What would make the round more interesting for you? Clone Memory Disorder to keep your cover? Or rat you out to security?))

The response I got back was that Asrair usually played it CMD, but I could do what I wanted.
So I played up full CMD; no memory after leaving brig to go out on patrol. No idea how I died, only that I did die.

I decided that something bad happened to me and that I was going to track down whatever killed me.
So I took lethals and went to patrol again.
    Got caught by Asrair again.
Got Thralled by Asrair; who seemed very thrilled to have a thrall in security.

Unfortunately, the crew transfer shuttle got called about 2-3 minutes after that.
I can't remember a round that I've been more disappointed to see come to an end.

An amazing experience that came out of playing along with hostage, and then playing up CMD.

  8. I debated making this another post on Tales from Shitcurity, but this is worth a thread by itself.

I was playing Katlyn Hudson, Head of Personnel.
The round was going OK, except for a Clown breaking into my office once.
Then there was some downtime, and I get a PDA from Ssegorath Esskor, a friend of Katlyn's.

(This is to the best of my recall...)
    Esskor: hudson
    Katlyn: what's up?
    Esskor: i need a solid
    Katlyn: come to the line
    Esskor: i don't need access
    Katlyn: what do you need?
    Esskor: i need access
Esskor: can I have all access?
Katlyn: of course not, what do you need All-Access for?
Esskor: what would you give me?
Katlyn: depends on what you ask for when you came to the line
    (some delay)
Katlyn: are you coming to the line or not, silly?
Esskor: can't i'm on the run

I didn't respond to that final message. Some time later, I get messages from a different PDA:

(Again, to the best of my recall...)
Curt: i still need that favor
Curt: my other pda got taken

I didn't respond to either of these messages.

Twenty minutes later, security shows up to search and arrest me.
Charges? Aiding and abetting the Changeling Esskor.

    Note well:
Esskor had asked me for All-Access via PDA and I said No.
He never came to the Head of Personnel line.
I never saw him in person during the entire round.

I tried explaining my situation; to the arresting officer, to the HoS, to the IAA, and even to the Magistrate.
No dice, I still spent the second half of the round in Perma, and went to the shuttle in cuffs.

The only real solace here? This wasn't targeted shitcurity, I wasn't a special case.
Security was pure shitcurity, through and through, to everybody, for the entire round.
CC vacated a case against Blipblop for an illegal search on Green.
It took another 10 minutes after CC's announcement, and a reminder from the AI that CC orders are not suggestions, for Blipblop to get released.
Catherine Ward was also Perma'd for "aiding and abetting"; for PDA messages to an EoC calling them an idiot.
And these are only the other cases that I know about.
Pretty sure I saw a slime person try to commit suicide in perma; I don't know what his story was.

Don't get me wrong, a false arrest and time in brig/perma isn't necessarily a problem.
The whole falsely accused and later exonerated can make for an interesting role-playing experience.
It can even be satisfying to watch those who falsely arrested you apologize and eat crow for being shitcurity.

But half a round in perma for properly doing my job as Head of Personnel?
Yeah, I need a break from that role for awhile.

We like to find ways to add to rounds that are slow...thats part of why we are here. We also don't always have our creative juices flowing, so if a player decides to drop an idea in our lap that can add content that makes things even easier for us. The difference is we can see everything that is happening and make a determination. Like if you ask to do something and we say no, its not necessarily because we didn't like the idea nor does it mean we would always decline that idea. And of course there is always the possiblity its just a bad idea that will never fly, but a no doesn't mean thats always the case ?

This is true. One round I joined as an observer and there was an admin event going on.
It was stuck in a kind of boring stalemate, so I offered up an idea in dead chat.
I got spawned in to do the idea that I had pitched.

In round terms, it was only a 'bit part'; but it was a lot of fun.
Even more fun was watching the fallout after I got back to dead chat.
Command was absolutely shocked, it was incredible to watch.

Also early leaving is only a ban for Command Staff, I believe. It is preferred if you ahelp before leaving antag positions, though, so that someone else can be given your body/antag status in replacement.

I think it can also be a nice thing to do.

One morning, I had to leave for work in 30 minutes and figured I'd just play a little bit and then cryo when I had to leave.

    I rolled Bartender ... Vampire.

I thought, well we're low-pop, security is probably understaffed, I could go straight up murderbone vampire for the next 30 minutes.
Then I thought about the other vampires in the round and thought nah, I'm not going to do it.
If I wanted to play stealth vampire, I'd be kinda pissed that some murderbone vampire blew my cover with mayhem, and especially when they couldn't even finish the round and get the green-text anyway.

So I ahelped to say I had to leave in 30 minutes, please take away my vampire and give it to someone else.
I got de-vamped, and then *BWOINK*: Enjoy your round of not biting people!

I never did get to see how the round turned out as I went to work. The vampires hadn't been called out by the time I left, so I like to think that I made the right call.

  11. IC complaints about 'hiring from the manifest'.

As I said there, "If preventing manifest hires and keeping security pure is what the admins want, I'd like a standard/stock IC explanation that I can tell people who apply."

I recently had a round as HoP and I hired an IAA from the manifest.
HoS and the Captain both complained and demanded the individual be demoted because they were hired from the manifest.

As I explained to the guy when he came back to the HoP line, "Well, you might be a Syndicate traitor and tell security to brig someone for 5 minutes instead of 10 minutes for breaking into a command area; we can't be too careful, you know?" to point out how absolutely ridiculous and flimsy the 'don't hire from manifest' crap is.

Hell, I almost have sympathy for not hiring a Head of Security from the manifest, given how powerful the role is and how it could affect the round for others.
But an IAA? The role long lamented to be absolutely powerless except for a fax to CC? Give a HoP a break!

  12. Special Operations Officer Padraig Callahan:

I want to thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding the appeal of Ssegorath Esskor.

You say that you have all of the information you need regarding the incident involving Ssegorath Esskor and Mariya Sankinov. Given the rather public nature of the incident and the several news feeds that were later censored, this is not surprising. So, I shall not recount the details of the incident itself, but rather address your two main concerns.

On the first concern, if I believe the decision to terminate Ssegorath Esskor was made in haste or error, I will answer in the negative.

Unfortunately, the incident took place in a very public manner. What may have been an argument between two friends that spiraled out of control, took on an order of magnitude more concern when the stories hit the newscasters. Ssegorath Esskor himself was defamed in these news articles, which had suggested he was guilty of sexual assault. Just to be 100% clear, at no time, did I receive any evidence whatsoever, that a sexual assault took place. I sincerely believe that no misconduct of that nature occurred. However, it did not stop the people on the station from sending messages to Ssegorath Esskor declaring him to be a rapist and demanding his resignation.

The conduct that did occur justified at least a temporary suspension. This would have allowed time for a psych evaluation of both Ssegorath Esskor and Mariya Sankinov to determine if the incident was a one off, or was a serious and troubling pattern of behavior. When the incident itself became public, many of the crew had assembled at the bridge and the mood was very tense. I sincerely believe that a public termination prevented a riot from occurring. Even if the riot hadn't occurred, the public relations fallout would have been disastrous for both the station and Nanotrasen as a whole. As it stood, the entire leadership of the security force was occupied in this incident. Fortunately, the security department did not have to deal with any major threats during the shift, or the consequences may have been absolutely disastrous.

I would have preferred to handle it in private, and ironically counseled Ssegorath Esskor to do just that; apologize directly to Mariya Sankinov for his behavior and make it right by her. He refused to do so, believing that because she had done something similar to him in the past, that it was acceptable for him to do it. To wit, there are some things a Warden can do to her boss, who has the power to fire her if he seriously disapproves of her behavior. That same behavior perpetrated by the boss against a subordinate, who has no recourse is an entirely different matter. I don't believe that he took into consideration the power difference between a Warden and a Head of Security in this regard.

So, no, I do not believe the decision to terminate Ssegorath Esskor was made in haste or error. I believe it was the correct decision to make, and if anything, not made soon enough.

On the second concern, if I believe that Ssegorath Esskor should be reinstated as Head of Security on the NSS Cyberiad, I will answer in the affirmative, with reservations.

Ssegorath Esskor is one of the best crew members who has ever served me as a Head of Security. During a crisis, he has a direct and no-nonsense approach that is surprisingly effective. Given that Head of Security is the very hardest job on the NSS Cyberiad, it makes his track record of commendations even more impressive. Beyond this, he also exhibits a direct and no-nonsense approach to his subordinates. He values communication and gives clear and unambiguous direction. Subordinates who do not communicate or follow directions properly are swiftly weeded out of the security force. In the end, the security team under Ssegorath Esskor is a well oiled machine for keeping order and combating threats.

To this day, there are shifts where I wish that I hadn't needed to terminate Ssegorath Esskor. So the chance to have him back aboard the NSS Cyberiad and serving in capacity of Head of Security is very appealing to me. It is well known, documented in my file, that I am a Captain of second chances. I believe those who make mistakes have learned valuable lessons; lessons that we paid the price for them to learn. If their attitude is aligned with doing the right thing in the future, I believe it is best to utilize that experience, even and especially when acquired under painful circumstances and outcomes.

However, I have three areas of reservation. I recommend ALL of these areas be covered before reinstatement should occur.

Reservation one is that Mariya Sankinov write a letter stating her position on the reinstatement of Ssegorath Esskor. As I understand it, the two have since worked out the differences over the incident that occurred. I consider it vital that she request his reinstatement, and provide a statement that she would like to serve in the security department under his leadership again. You can imagine the news stories, 'Warden Sankinov forced by Nanotrasen to work for boss who ...'; it behooves us to ensure that her desires are made plain and clear on this matter. If she would not serve under Ssegorath Esskor again, then I recommend that we DO NOT reinstate him in this capacity.

Reservation two is that Ssegorath Esskor be given leadership training to understand the difference in power between superior and subordinate. Understanding that the same behavior is not equal behavior when performed on a power gradient is crucial to preventing incidents such as this from occurring in the future. A successful score ranking in this leadership training should go a long way toward quantifying his commitment to serving the interests of his department and Nanotrasen as a whole.

Reservation three is that Ssegorath Esskor be given security training to understand that Space Law is the source his power. Things that are appropriate to do with suspects, criminals, and enemies of the corporation are not necessarily appropriate to do with subordinates or crew members with whom he may have a personal disagreement. Ultimately, his termination stemmed from a violation of 301 Kidnapping of an Officer charge that was dropped in lieu of termination. His training must emphasize that exercise of security authority must be done under the code of Space Law and for absolutely no other reason.

If all three reservations can be met, then I would be delighted to endorse Ssegorath Esskor for reinstatement as Head of Security aboard the NSS Cyberiad. I am a Captain of second chances, and I think Ssegorath Esskor deserves one. I hope that he believes the same about himself.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.

    Yours faithfully,

    Katlyn Hudson

    Katlyn Hudson
    Captain, NSS Cyberiad

  13. I was playing Katlyn Hudson, Head of Personnel.
Earlier, in the shift, I promoted Irithyll Rheon, Station Engineer to Acting CE.
Irithyll locked Poly in a closet, and Poly wanted revenge.
    So Poly came to the HoP (that's me!) and asked for a Chief Engineer ID in a collar;
I gave it regular Engineering access, but labeled it with a custom job title "Chief Engineer".
I think Poly may have been upset with me about the ID deception...

Poly squawks, "What do you want to tell your master ian?"

    Lieutenant Ian woofs, "YAP"

    Poly says, "Ian told me"

Poly yells, "He wanted to tell you something"

    Lieutenant Ian barks, "Bark!"

Katlyn Hudson asks, "What's that Poly?"

Poly yells, "What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? Ill have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and Ive been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and Im the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. Youre fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and thats just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to"

    Poly squawks, "Thats about it"

    Lieutenant Ian tilts his head.

Silent Knight stares at Poly in awe

    Ekoh'O says, "Issss lovely"

    Katlyn Hudson looks extremely confused.

  14. I had a round once as Changeling Mime.
My objectives included killing the Psych and escaping on the shuttle with his identity.

The Psych office is pretty secluded on Cyberiad, and as luck would have it my target asked if I wanted the shutters closed for privacy. (Yes please...)

Mute sting and an armblade later, the Psych was dead on the floor.
Suddenly a nosy Paramedic who had heard the scuffle came in to investigate the noise.
He began to drag away the body of the Psych.

I saw that as interference with my objective (I needed that ID card!), so I chased and armbladed the paramedic all the way back to his office.
Now both the Psych and the Paramedic were dead just outside the Paramedic's office.
I grabbed the ID off the body just as a Sec Cyborg was entering Med Bay...
...Sec Cyborg does absolutely nothing and just keeps walking past(!!)

I am dumb-founded for a moment, as I thought that I was done when that Sec Cyborg showed up.
I slide out into the hallway, transform into the Psych in full view of the middle of the hallway, wear bloody mime clothes all the way back to the dressing room, nobody looks twice.

Psych player, being a really cool person, plays up the Clone Memory Disorder with vague recollections of the attack.
They could have immediately outed me to security, but decided to give me a shot at winning the round.

  15. I mentioned the idea very briefly on Discord, but thought it'd be better as a forum thread.

I'd like to see job specific traitor objectives. For example:

    Head of Personnel

    • Open 10 Clown slots and set the Clown job to High Priority
    • Hand out 5 All-Access IDs
    • Steal funds from 10 different accounts to get 10,000 credits in your own personal account

    Chemist

    • Prevent {common medical chemical} from ever being in the Med Fridge longer than 30 seconds
    • Replace the beaker in the cryotube with sulfuric acid
    • Never create Strange Reagent during your entire shift

    Doctor

    • Allow 2 Security Officers to die in surgery
    • Stop a cloning process early and don't give the patient mannitol
    • Kill a patient with an improper blood transfusion

    Cargo Technician

    • Waste N points by ordering {random crate}
    • Ensure that 3 crates ordered by non-cargo personnel  are never opened
    • Send the body of {assassination target} back on the cargo shuttle

    Janitor

    • Cause at least 50 slips due to water cleaning
    • Steal and disposal 3 valuable items
    • Never clean in {random department}

    Paramedic

    • Ensure that 2 dead people are loaded onto the ambulance but never revived
    • Kill a patient with an overdose of {common medical chemical}
    • Spend more than half the shift outside the station on pointless space walks

    Station Engineer

    • Create 600 seconds of power outage in {random department}
    • Disable 10 cameras around the station
    • Cut the AI control wire on 10 airlocks
    • Modify 5 maintenance airlocks to add indefinite electric shock

    Atmos Tech

    • Set {random place} to panic siphon for 120 seconds
    • Open a canister of plasma in a maintenance tunnel
    • Refill a Plasmaman or Vox emergency tank with Oxygen

    Chaplain

    • Bless 3 people (blessing causes a random disability after 180 seconds)
    • Burn 3 station pets in the cremator (this one seems almost too evil)
    • Sneak any item to a perma prisoner inside a bible

I'm sure there are more ideas that could be fun.

  16. This scheme was implemented on Oracle, so I was surprised when I first joined Paradise and found most of the roles open.

Honestly, I think they work best for players who are very new to SS13.
It keeps them from choosing roles over their heads on their first or second time playing the game.

My observation is that the time locks didn't significantly improve Oracle over what I see in Paradise today.
Nor do Paradise's lack of time locks make things significantly worse on Paradise than what I saw on Oracle.

So, nice on paper, but maybe not as effective in practice as I would hope.

  17. HoP hands out All Access IDs like candy to almost anyone who comes to the line.
    Nobody catches on.

HoP 'accidentally' hires a traitor to Security without checking with the HoS first.
    Captain reprimands me.

HoP hires a Co-HoP with equal access without permission from the Captain.
    Captain reprimands me.

HoP gets drunk on duty and slurs her words on the Command comms.
    Captain reprimands me.

Captain discovers the HoP has opened 15 Clown slots and set the job to High Priority.
Captain summons all the heads to the bridge, who unanimously vote to Arrest and Demote the HoP.

Best traitor round that I have ever played. I regret nothing! :honk:

  18. Sorry to Necro this from six months ago, but it's a tricky one for me.

OOCly, I understand exactly why manifest hires to security are bad news; they are potential Antags who might infiltrate security and do bad things.

ICly, I struggle with a reason to deny the hire. In my mind, Nanotrasen paid a lot of money to shuttle all of these people out to a space station. I assume all of them went through some kind of background check. Because Antags are present, we must assume this process wasn't perfect and let some bad actors slip through.

OOCly, we know people with a mindshield at spawn (start or late) are not Antags.

ICly, saying that a mindshield is an automatic good guy badge is equivalent to saying that Nanotrasen is perfect at handing out mindshields to only those who have been supremely vetted. In this case, it makes zero sense for a box of mindshields to be available in security, because there is no possible way for security to do the extreme vetting that Nanotrasen has done. In this case, SoP would be that only personnel previously mindshielded could have their mindshield replaced. And even this is dubious, as I imagine Nanotrasen would want to again redo the supreme vetting to make sure that a re-up on the mindshield is appropriate for a person who lost it.

I tend to agree with ZN23X that hiring from manifest adds a unique element of danger, surprise, and fun to the game. I had a crazy shift once where I hired two from the manifest; Parker Ringer and Dan Jello. Parker turned out to be a great officer. Dan Jello was an Antag with an objective to assassinate me, and actually did kill me *as I was attempting to implant his mindshield*! Despite paying the ultimate price for my manifest hire, this was a crazy fun round. Dan earned that karma point.

I guess what I'm saying is, if preventing manifest hires and keeping security pure is what the admins want, I'd like a standard/stock IC explanation that I can tell people who apply.
Otherwise, I want to continue hiring from manifest, knowing that I may have signed my own death warrant, but embracing that as just another reason SS13 is so much fun.
