  1. Turning pod pilot into an engineer isn't really what I had in mind and I think a lot of pod pilot players play pod pilot to be an officer with emphasis on space stuff. Changing them into an engineer would turn off many players who like the way the role currently is, myself included

snip because this post is getting long

When I thought of this Idea in my head I thought you could also tie in some of the other suggestions that people suggest for new security roles but always get shot down because there is not enough for them to do. Like someone suggested in the security a thread a person who's job is to go out and get more stuff for security (from cargo or science). Maybe this roll can tie into that as well. The brig technician could go order a bunch of AeGs or worth the brig phys to have a bunch of implants delivered to sec to be put in officers. I think it would be a positive thing to move that stuff out of the warden's jurisdiction because I think a lack of leadership makes sec stressful to play. If we were to phase this kind of thing out of the Warden's duties instead and give the warden more emphasis on dispatching / keeping track of everything that's happening and letting the Head of Security know whats important and helping give the HoS who can have a hard time leading on his own a helping hand could improve leadership in security

Also another reason I liked this idea was that often times people like to do projects to build and expand new stuff in their departments, but security isn't one that can really do that and this would make it to where it is. They could build high security airlocks, reinforce the armory from space and make it harder to raid. Build various machines that would make sec's life easier. Help expand the operations of brigbay. More competent technicians could possibly end up with brig bay being a mini med bay, with cloning and chemistry and all. None of this stuff is stuff that players can't do. It's just stuff no one has time for since currently security has their hands tied doing other things most of the time and don't have the time to commit and finish projects like these. Sometimes an over achieving brig phys might accomplish this type of thing, but that is very rare and I thought pretty much every other department gets upgrades throughout the shift, so why not make sec consistently get upgrades too.

The brig tech would make that consistency. They would bring in new stuff from science, make sure brig bay is up to snuff, build new machines that would assist sec, they could reinforce areas of the brig should it be deemed necessarily, and they would be taking burden away from the warden allowing him to spend more time doing things more important

  3. Right now an alien literally cant devour you if you macro resist because you can spam it while you're on the floor and the hunter will grab you to devour you and your grasp will just be broken and you wont be able to devour them. Grabs also might have some combat application besides throwing people and grabs that start upgraded if this were the case too.

  4. Yeah Acutal Marshall law could help too, espeically applied in conjunction with my idea. Things are going to shit and you want to be an asshole running around the hallway slipping sec when they don't have the time to stop? Well you can just get shot instead.

  5. The main reason security is shit is because sec needs teamwork and at least a little bit of competence to succeed and the competent players don't sign up for sec because they know its a massive gamble and they likely wont get either of those things.

It's hard to foresee the consequences of this. but white listed security (maybe only a few white listed slots and some public?) could definitely solve the competence issue. However, this could make low pop even worse and it may not help. It's hard to tell what would happen

IE Create a security white list. Maybe add 3 white listed regular sec officers. (For coding issues you could just create a separate role that is white listed and add a little more hierarchy to sec, like Senior Security Officer.) HoS would also be on this whitelist. Warden and the rest of the sec officer slots could be public. To reduce the problem of low pop. Rather than taking away from regular public sec slots maybe just add 3 whitelisted ones and the HoS. In the case there is no whitelisted on in low pop you can still have an acting HoS.

Yes you would be increasing the number of base sec slots but as things currently are I think that is far from a problem.

  6. Don't know if I like this. Seems like it would just get annoying and most players would see through it. It would also breed more distrust over comms and I dont think thats a good thing.

The sec thing also seems annoying. 4 civs in the bar and one of them is disguised, better tase everyone and search them becaues its code red and I can do that.

Asides from plasmaman having a free space suit, they cant wear anything else like a helmet or exosuit unless its fireproofed and their suit too, doing so  is a risk cause itll set people around on fire, plasmaman ALSO gets more damage with brute or lasers, they got a bigger chance of bone broke as far as i remember.

I was looking around to try and find this damage weakness but I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. I see no such damage modifiers in https://github.com/ParadiseSS13/Paradise/blob/master/code/modules/mob/living/carbon/human/species/plasmaman.dm

Also I think if a non plasma man tries to put a plasma man suit on they just get "your species cannot wear this." If this is not the case, this should be made the case then the suits made printable in R&D. Also the delay on setting on fire sounds good.

    WHAT DOES HE WANT???

He wants to make it where if a Borg disables their camera (blinding themselves) they are immune to flashes as long as it stays disabled

Problem is, and this has been subject to discussion earlier, is how we choose to classify contraband. There seems to be a shift away from it being strictly what you can get only from Syndie-Uplinks being totally condemning, to the danger posed by the device.

We need to pick one and stick with it, and adjust accordingly.

Definitely needs to be according to danger for sake of balance.Wicker Doll is a perfect example. 14 TC that hardly gets anything done and gets you thrown in perma.

They need actual functions. They should be the jack of all trades bot that can be the first to respond in any situation, but they won't be the one to fix the situation. A hypospray that injects epinephrine to stabilize dying people, A metal foam spray to fix breaches to space, pepper spray for breaking up fights but not the tools to conduct an arrest themselves.

So standard that actually works? Why not just adjust standard at that point

Miners can find it in the asteroid.

As for why it shouldnt be class S when linked, I can't think of a single helpful, useful or good function it has. It can only be used to sabotage the station and the people inside. It has no good use, so if you have it LINKED to someone, you're clearly not trying to help them.

One time a miner gave me a wicker doll as a chaplain (non-antag) and I just used it to play with people and make them say stuff to convince them my god was real. I even managed to convince some dude who talked (typed?) with a weird accent. He ended up going to some dinoa that came from botany with a shield and a spear and challenging him to dual and saying "crabby is my armor" (my god was crab'sie) and because of that I used the wicker doll to help him.

Just a bit of a story on how it can be harmless even when linked and its definately not a good tator item. Any chaplain who buys this is either doing a very weird gimmic, memeing, or has no clue how bad of an item it is.

I'm okay with unlinked Voodoo Dolls being downgraded to Class C contraband, but a linked one should still be considered class S since... you know, you clearly intend to do someone harm. IIRC you can also make people say things with the voodoo doll which can be very damaging if you're in a communications position like Command.

Its a chaplain only traitor item that costs over 10 TC and is only slightly lethal. It should either be reduced in contraband level or price, not to mention if you use it on someone theyll instantly know and say theyre being wicker dolled.

I mean seriously, Someone recently got only 8 mins for having an automatic carbine with a grenade launcher. THAT DOESNT FUCKING ADD UP DOES IT. Apparently automatic weapons like that when had by civillians are only "Restricted weapons" and not contraband. and only net them 10 mins in brig. 8 if they come willingly. Hooolyyy shit. That shit should be the sign of someone having something they really shouldn't if they arent sec. Maybe possibly Expand the categories? Automatic weaponry and the like have harsher punishments? Im just pretty sure a weapon like that is a problem

The only way to acquire said weapon is space loot and its guarded by turrets. Nukies might be able to get it but I'm not sure on that. So really the problem is making it class-s Contraband leads to putting non antags in perma which is not ideal.

Ultimately this will help solve 'shuttle cheese', where people call the shuttle at Blue, realise it's longer, recall the shuttle, go to Red, then call the shuttle again.

Could just make shuttle time boost by 5 minutes when you go from Blue to Red, except in cases where a delay is used, (sling engine destroy and cultist orb). This would be better posted as a suggestion than here though
