  1. Yeah I meant the Binary Channel. I don't see why they WOULDN't have access to it, even if they cant talk on it. And technically the maintdrones DO have access to the AI private channel. they can set Intercoms to it.

  2.

First thing that comes to mind for me is for someone to fix the crossbow so it actually hits people, been broken for ages and it just seems to keep falling through the cracks.

    Other things...

Magboots for Maintnence Drones so they don't get constantly swept around by atmosphere, and replace their Plastic sheets with Plasteel ones so they can actually fix reinforced walls.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, a problem with the Diona code, or some weird temperature problem in maintenance tunnels, but make it so that Diona don't spontaneously start taking burn damage while walking around the maintenance tunnels. (seriously, it happens.)

hmmm.... thats all I can think of off the top of my head

  3. Oh most definately. Honestly it seems like something that mentors might get access to. That already requires a certain amount of vetting in and of itself and its a lot simpler to screen applicants from a smaller pool like that then the server as a whole.

  4. I'd certainly like to see this, or, if possible, become one of these. Could help bridge the gap between Admin-Run events and the general rounds by letting the CentCom Officers inject some fun Roleplay elements into a round that don't require any admin powers to do. Also means someone is almost always on hand to handle faxes and that can be fun/useful too.

  5.

At the moment it looks like some of the names of Diona organs don't match their purpose. Namely, their 'Brain' is their Gas Bladder while their 'Heart' is Neural Strata. Considering that most surgeons never have had to perform surgery on a Diona before, it seems bad to have it be even more confusing to have the names be so misleading.

I suggest we just swap the names around so Brain is Neural Strata and heart is Gas Bladder.

  6. if they do have some clipping, maybe the design could be tweaked to at least make the clipping look 'intendted' much like how Diona tendrils clip through their clothes. If Kidan plates poke through at certain spots it could be handwaved away as just poking through slots in their jumpsuits. Course this is more of a problem with EVA suits....

  7. Thats why you don't just use a 'piece' of tape. You gotta wind that stuff around their head a couple times at the very least. Better yet, shove something in their mouth like a sock to muffle them then put a couple winds of ducttape around their head to keep it there. Course, this just makes the whole process take much longer and stripping the headset probably would be easier at that point. Might as well just add a mechanic to stuff an item into their mouth instead.

  8. There should probably be something in here about access in emergency situations and/or to deal with breaches. Their job usually involves going into other departments to fix something, but unlike Sec they do not wield the threat of brigging for non-compliance. Perhaps part of of the CE's SoP should be to communicate with the heads of the other departments to ensure that their engineers are always granted access to needed areas (I'm looking at you, science. It takes more time to be let into science than actually fix the damage sometimes.) or include somewhere in the Engineer SoP about times were engineers are legally allowed to hack doors to access damaged areas. Also need to include SoP about hacking in general, as the engineers are the best equipped bunch to do so. I know when I play Glow of Moonlight the first thing I do after setting up the engine is I head over to the Construction area and quickly pulse all the door wires to ensure I know what they all do.

  9. I'd like to see mice (and all small pests, really) be able to be picked up and carried around. This could be all sorts of fun for reasons stated above, but also nice as it would give them an inventory size so you could do things like put them in a box and wrap it as a gift, keep them in pockets as portable pets, and of course fill someones chest with them.

I was part of this round, if very late to it, so I thought I could share some input on it. This appears to have just been, as ZomgPonies has admitted, a poorly executed event that got out of control and unfortunately negatively affected the round. I think they could have thought the event through a bit better before executing it, and perhaps there might have been more that could have been done to prevent the Tesla's escape, but in the end it was just a mistake, and we all make mistakes. Punishing mistakes, especially when they have been owned up to, won't stop situations like this from happening again. All that it will do is discourage people from running events at all, and I think that is the exact opposite of what we would want.

Hopefully all the feedback from this will be taken into consideration and if we are lucky we can prevent these types of accidents in the future. If a review of the Admin's Event Guide could help avoid these situations going forward, then id put my support behind that.

  11. +1 for sure! I enjoy playing maintenance drones a lot (its like being in engineering without the drama!) but the fact that they slip and slide around due to pressure makes it impossible to deal with some things like hull breaches, ESPECIALLY since you can move over/under most objects in the game and can't pull anything.

  12.

Well hey, being remembered isn't what's important! If you can grab screenshots and example pictures, I can draw just about any character. You're right, though, I've never really tried to draw a diona since...well, I'm not even sure what they're made of. I can always try if someone gives me ideas as to what they'd be similar to.

Ill try and grab some pictures next round I play as Glow of Moonlight, though its basically just going to be a Diona in an engineering Jumpsuit with a hard hat, dufflebag, hazard vest, and shiny green Mesons glasses holding a flashlight. He's not particularly exciting xD

My own description of Dionae in the spoiler below, because I'm terrible at editing myself down to a suitable length

I kept re-writing this over and over, trying to cut it down, but I kept rambling on about lore and such, and in the end, I decided that I might as well just stick it in a spoiler for cleanliness of the thread and just get what I was trying to say down into a post. Who knows, maybe this can help you figure out what Dionae look like in your head, maybe not. Hopefully its an entertaining read at least.

As for what Dionae themselves look like, well, a mature Diona is quite literally a mass of nymphs that have melded their biomass and consciousness together into a larger, more complex form. The result of this fusion is something of a playdough-like person, a collection of biomass that is humanoid in form but lacking in detail.

The Dionae have bodies made of intertwining masses of tough, greenish-brown, plant-like biomatter sporadically embedded with crystalline orbs which they use to absorb light and radiation. Despite their durable and sturdy biology, however, the bodies of Dionae are actually very fluid and malleable. They have no skeletal structure, no circulatory system, and an underdeveloped, decentralized nervous system, all of which contribute to their ability to withstand brutal punishment and recover from lethal wounds.

Their 'hands are a collection highly dexterous graspers, and are often described as looking like the arms simply become unraveled at the ends. These can be shaped fairly freely to fit the job at hand, be it delicate tendrils to manipulate the tools of surgery, powerful gripping vines to swing a pickaxe, or gnarled clubs to strike an opponent with. They can also easily emulate the shape and movements of humanoid hands, allowing them to use gloves without modification. Their 'feet' are little more than a mass of anchoring ligaments that spread out from the lower legs to support the lumbering Dionae frame. Just like their 'hands', the malleability of the Diona form means that wearing shoes is no problem for them.

The face of a diona is strange, even among the menagerie of species aboard the Cyberaid. Made from the same fibrous biomatter and crystalline orbs as their body, it is almost completely devoid of features save for its 'eyes' and 'mouth'. The 'eyes' are a pair of highly developed, compact versions of the eyes of nymphs, lacking any iris or eyelids. Their mouth is little more than a gap in their face that they vocalize through when conversing with other races, as they have no respiratory system and require no physical sustenance.

As for an image reference, I've seen Groot tossed around here and there, and I think that its not a bad comparison, though less the recent movie version and more the comic book version. Here is a link to one that I think looks a lot like what a Dionae might look like, except the glowy bits would be green rather than red.

Hopefully this wasn't too long... ^^; I get over excited about Dionae >.>

Also, damn, thats spooky o.0 You make good spooky drawings!

  13.

My main characters are Glow of Moonlight (Diona) and Mimsy Muffins (Human Clown)

Glow of Moonlight rarely ever actually takes time off. When he isn't working in engineering, he's usually busy trying something new or learning a new skill. Since he requires neither food nor rest, the only reason he works in shifts at all is because NT requires him to do so. When he does take a break, however, he'll often strap on a pair of mag boots and just bask in the radioactive glow of the singularity, or go for long spacewalks on the ship's hull. He also lectures other races about the Diona occasionally, being one of the oldest Diona known to exist outside the Dionae Gestalts.

Mimsy spends her off time working on her Masters degree in clowning, Majoring in Pie-based physics and Slipology. She hopes to one day write her thesis on the 'infinislip' theory and be recognized by the highest institutes of Clown-Learning and do the Honkmother proud. She also takes weekend courses at the Dojo of Master Slip-Ze, Legendary Clown Ninja and author of Shadow-Peels: The Art of the Stealth Banana

Now that Ive made that book up, I'm probably going to have to write it....

  14.

Man, all of these are great! I can see why so many people use them as their forum avatars xD you really have improved as well. Makes me want to get in on the action, except I don't think I've Been around long enough/become memorable enough yet for my character to be remembered.

Plus, Diona are weird to draw for most people xD they all kind of look alike, so its usually only their clothes and personality that sets them apart.

  15.

I would love one of these things. I would call it Chompy. I would make it make cute noises then throw up a human hand.

All in all, I really like these things and would love to see them in game. Only real problem is that pest control is rarely a problem (outside spiders and spacecarp) since things like mice dont breed in maitnance. Or anything. If we made it so that more pests appeared around the station, then I could consider those justifiable (along with any use of mousetraps or Beartraps. As it is, its pretty much useless to use any of those things.)
