I know the pokemon thing sounds retarded. Thats because it is retarded. I still think it would be fun if done tongue in cheek... but also retarded. its essentially just pokemon style pit fights. The implementation would be funny, "Clown, I choose you. Use Flower filled with poly acid! Its super effective!" But perhaps not the right crowd just yet.
Why can't it just be a pit fight in the thunderdome between two teams where the group 'leaders' have to pick a small group of people off the station to fight by their side via simple menus, and leave all the tired pop culture references out?

We could go down a list of all the words that could offend someone, which is probably in the hundreds and maybe thousands. Banning somebody over saying something is silly, if someone gets that deeply offended over the internet by being called a name than if anything that person needs to grow a pair and move on!

I can't tell if this entire thread is trolling or serious, I think only "Gay" should be banned since thats the only real thing that could deeply offend someone, the rest of these are just silly.
If it's possible for a homosexual to get deeply offended by 'Gay', even if it's in a completely different context with a completely different meaning that has nothing to do with actual homosexuality, then it's just as possible for a cripple to be deeply offended by 'Lame', even if it's in a completely different context with a completely different meaning that has nothing to do with actual disabilities.

Joke thread or not. This thread is moot. It is not your server it is their server and how they wish to run it simples. Accept their rules or leave. I have done it plenty of times in any online community.

I can see the logic, but I disagree. There are VAST amount of words that can be used to offend if you're going historically. Bad for example is believed to come from the Old English root "bæddel", which meant an effeminate man, along with a few other derogatory meanings. Evil too, once had a much more offensive meaning when applied to people. There are many more.
Yes, and that's the can of worms people open when they try to ban certain terms for being offensive. Where is the line drawn? If you ban words for racism and homophobism, but not for things like sexism and ableism, could that not be considered to be a tacit admission by the admins that they consider those lesser forms of discrimination? If someone is going to ban words for potentially being offensive, and trying to call themselves an unbiased and fair admin, they must ban all slur words that could be offensive, not just those they personally find offensive because they apply to their particular groups or are hot topics in their area.

What would they steal since no one would be carrying any money anyway?
Their ID, all the stuff they were selling, and maybe drag em off into the maint halls and torture their PIN out of them with a shard of glass?

So I was browsing the unban forums because they're usually something interesting going on there and nobody seems to post anywhere else and I saw this
That's the philosophy I've been hearing on a lot of servers with similar rules, and I love seeing it. However, I do have a problem with its scope. I do agree with the ban against racist and homophobic terms, but what about ableist terms? My suggestion is this;
Ban terms like 'Stupid', 'Idiot', 'Dumb', 'Lame', 'Crazy', and 'Insane', as those words are, in fact, ableist and mock the many, many people throughout the world who have lived with the crippling conditions they refer to all their lives, and makes them feel just as unwelcome as the people that post describes.
Not convinced that using 'Lame' as an insult is just a bad as using 'Gay'? Well, I think the easiest way to convince you would just be to compare the two terms.
Gay
- Originally created to describe homosexuals- well, originally it mean happy, but ignoring that- who make up around 3% of the entire US population.
- People colloquially start using it as a general insult to vaguely mean 'sissy', which is a stereotype that would be incredibly offensive to homosexuals.
Lame
- Originally created to describe people who are unable to walk, who make up around 3% of the entire US population.
- People colloquially start using it as a general insult to vaguely mean 'pathetic and ineffective', which is a stereotype that would be incredibly offensive to cripples.
Do I have to mention words like 'Dumb', 'Stupid', 'Crazy', 'Retard' and 'Insane' being used as insults frequently on this server, even though more then 1 in 10 adults in the US report suffering from the severely crippling illnesses the words refer to, who are already trying to cope with terrible mental diseases like Depression and Alzheimer Disease without having a bunch of assholes on the internet making it worse?
Not trying to tell you how to run your server, and I'm sorry if I came off as disrespectful, but this is an important issue for many people, so I really hope the admins consider it.

This charity is pretty unique in that, instead of feeling like you're throwing your money into an endless void where you're never really sure where it's going to go to or if it's going to help, you can directly donate your money to 'gifts' of specific items that will be delivered to the families that need it the most. These 'gifts' range from things like cattle to seeds and farming equipment to helping a young child pay for the tuition to go to school. It's also unique in that it goes by the 'teach a man to fish' mentality, as in, instead of just providing poor families with beef, they provide them with cattle and the training to raise and butcher them.
It also has a women's empowerment sections, that give women in areas where gender discrimination is the most rampant the training and resources to forge a name for themselves, create their own businesses and go to school, among other things, which is pretty cool.

4. accidentally mess up one of the biggest parts of the build half way through, have to build the whole thing over
5. hear of xenos and poisonous gas over the radio. start rushing to finish your build.
6. escape shuttle called.
7. panic, rush for the command department in a mad scramble to recall the shuttle.
8. too late
9. spawn in an e-sword and try to go out on a murderboning rampage to at least do something traitory so this whole couple hour round doesn't feel like a waste
10. get robusted by an assistant with a toolbox in the first 15 seconds
11. round ends
12. go into character selection options
13. toggle off 'spawn as antag' options, for you have proven yourself unworthy
14. close the game window and curl up in a secluded corner somewhere
