Mail chutes for all departments

Mail chutes would be an easier way of transporting materials and products between departments, plus a fun an original way of commiting B&E. It would also be cool for engineering to be able to ship materials to where they were needed or possibly for the chef to send food to people.

Some objects would have to be not allowed in the mail chutes, like bombs, or else every rev round would just be science going IRA on command and shipping a max yield bomb to the bridge.

A central routing depot like goon would also be effective, possible allowing for someone to scan the post for bombs or traitor items.

Yep, that's one of the uses for disposal chutes.

The issue with that is that it goes in with the rest of the trash. Tossing a package with a hand label into disposals and praying that the belt is off in cargo, and that someone'll pick it up in the next hour is rather a lot of bother, compared with just dumping it on the desk of the department you want to give it to. A better idea would be to have a separate belt in cargo for wrapped and labeled/tagged boxes go there, and either a cargo tech will have to tag the package or it will be tagged by the person sending it. If packages were tagged at the disposals chute, then there should be an x-ray machine or similar that logs each package, it's destination and where it was sent from and gives a rough idea of the contents, so that bombs aren't being mailed everywhere.

If you can beg/bribe/steal wrapping paper and a Destination Tagger (the gun used by cargo to mark wrapped packages) then you can mail anything you want that fits in a disposal chute to anywhere the gun recognizes. This is actually how Drones traverse the station by setting their tag and crawling into a disposal's vent.

 

You can even mail yourself. Get an object, anything from an O2 tank to a piece of glass or a plate, wrap it and tag it, drop it in the chute, climb into the chute and engage it. Viola, you just mailed yourself, potentially somewhere you couldn't even get to with you current access (Like the HoS office or Bridge)

Disposals/mail/ everything to do with disposals is outdated and in dire need of an overhaul.

 

Problem is, I don't really know how it could be fixed.
