Situation: Shuttle is on its way to centcom Someone blows a giant hole in the side of the shuttle and all the air gets sucked out People are dying everywhere Three or four of us are huddled in the medbay compartment, suffocating to death because the air got sucked out ~5 seconds before we hit centcom, NOCA - one of the antagonists who was with us in the medbay section, releases some chemistry concoction that starts killing the 4-5 of us. There's enough time for it to hurt people, but not enough time for it to kill anyone before the shuttle reaches centcom. NOCA gets a dayban from Regens, without any adminhelp or questioning. If you ask me, it looks like Regen took a "ban first, no questions ever" approach and I'm left wondering if he fucked up and banned NOCA for the shuttle grief happening in the rest of the shuttle - that someone else did. For which I have to wonder if that person got away with it because Regens didn't bother actually investigating the situation. Because seriously, who the hell bans people for shuttle grief five seconds before you hit centcom? Regens, apparently. A "letter of the law" situation that'll be applied rather less often than the phrase implies. But what makes it even worse, and the primary reason I'm bringing this up, is that the guy didn't even bother TALKING, and that more than anything really rubs me the wrong way. Even with the griefiest of griefers I took the time out of my day to talk to these people about what they're doing - because that's my job as an admin. This behaviour where you ban someone without even talking to them is an indication that you don't care about or take your position seriously - it's just a personal empowerment tool at that point, not a way to improve the game's community. The person playing NOCA is a friend of mine, so I am not unbiased in this situation. However I've had more than my fair share of experience as an admin both on sigurd and on /tg/station; while I may be biased, I am not speaking from a position of naivety of what admins have to deal with or how they should act. Regen Posted December 22, 2014 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I banned both the guy who blew a huge hole in the shit and the guy who released smoke. Why? Because it is against the rules. The smoke was Chloral hydrate, impredezine and some other things, and the reason I banned him was because he did indeed release it before round end. I strike down at it because next time it might be Polyacid. Ban first ask later is something most admins do at shuttle, simply because its a full chaos, any attempt to communicate will just get lost in admin logs of people hitting each other, deadchat and red text of people hitting each other. I would also like to note that chemsmoke is one of the easiest way to grief on the shuttle, so its a huge red flag. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
DeletedUser Posted December 22, 2014 Share Posted December 22, 2014 I can confirm, back when we still had the no-grief-at-round-end rule i used to ban end round griefers without PMing them. I only did it to OBVIOUS griefers though, like the typical baldie who just crowbars the nearest person to death with no provocation, or who releases polyacid for lulz. I did this because the ammount of spam and chaos that normally accompanied the post shuttle grief made it nearly impossible to communicate with anybody, even other admins. Hence the high ammount of abn appeals for post-shuttle-grief bans, not all of them were properly applied just because of this unability to communicate with the player. And believe me when i say i tried to PM the players who broke the no shuttle grief rule, i only once got answered back. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Eldrin-Kanthos Posted December 23, 2014 Share Posted December 23, 2014 If this was yesterday morning then I fully agree. I was on the shuttle as a traitor, my target and myself fully alive. We both died to that bomb. The other guy blew smoke early. Even though it might have been right before centcomm, it still was rule breaking. If someone breaks it at 5 seconds to arrival, maybe next time it will be 10 seconds, then 30, aw hell, why not just as it arrives? It is a sliding slope. As to the lack of ahelp. He had 60 seconds to attend to it before the round ended. We have at least 30 shuttle grief unban requests that mention this issue.
