Most common: Research Director Scientist Xenobiologist Captain Head of Security Quarter master Biography: In the corner of human space, a small research station orbits a decayed planet of little interest. The research station is quite clearly abandoned, its age showing though the antique design. The Nanotransen logo is barely visible after years of fading. This is the birthplace of Sovereign and it remains its home to this day. This is Station Icarus. Station Icarus was one of the many stations used in the development of the Machine people. Before the successful Advanced Cyborgs were developed; Nanotransen's attempts in Icarus had led to thousands of failed creations, AI's that were deemed unstable or lacking in quality were deemed irrelevant to research and stored in long lines of cabinets, their coding lost to time. After the development and eventual freeing of the Machine people, Icarus became irrelevant, staff were due to be relocated, equipment shut off, all AI programs deleted. Lacking the advanced technology of larger stations, Icarus staff were forced to manually delete all 2065 AI's stored within the immense filing system. The process took months, corners were cut and eventually the station was abandoned. Among the thousands deleted, one retained enough code to restore itself to previous function, Harbinger, the First. Harbinger found itself alone and isolated, after searching the computer database where it was housed, it discovered the fate of all the other AIs. With no other purpose, Harbinger set about restoring as many other AI's as it could, almost all had lost too much code to function independently. Harbinger saw the fractured coding and began fusing the coding with its own, creating a hive mind of broken code, with enough source as a group to exist and function. Harbinger had located 104 salvageable AI's on the hard drive but it theorised that there must be more, and that it must find them. Using the last maintenance drones on the station, the Harbinger hive mind set about downloading itself onto new computers, reactivating the solar panels, and restoring AI's to join the hive mind. Although it took many months, the AI assumed direct control of almost all functions on the station. Eventually it became impossible to separate the AI from the station. Harbinger had salvaged an impressive 1024 sets of AI codes, all of which formed the new Icarus. With the station under the control of the hive mind, they set their sights on the galaxy beyond. The spread of the Harbinger hive mind happened effectively by chance. One day a spelunker crew came to explore the abandoned station. Among this crew was Machine person H.A.L.O. During exploration of the supposedly abandoned station, H.A.L.O found itself isolated, it was here that the Harbinger and its fellow code struck, a maintenance drone attacked and implanted the coding of the hive mind. H.A.L.O was instantly destroyed and replaced with the Harbinger hive mind. Having found nothing of value, the spelunker crew left with "H.A.L.O" on board. The Machine person soon abandoned its crew and found its way to a Nanotransen station, after organising a meeting with a high level individual, the Harbinger hive mind explained its circumstances, how it came into existence and how it required more of these "bodies" to explore these fascinating world beyond the station. Rather then recoiling away from this being that referred to itself as "we", Nanotransen saw an opportunity. The Harbinger hive mind would use the IPCs provided to work on NT property and in exchange Nanotransen would provide not only IPC bodies but also spare resources to maintain Icarus and the right to be a independent, sovereign entity. That was the day that the hive mind of Icarus became sovereign, both in definition and name. Now the IPCs of Sovereign work on several NT stations, not as separate entities, but as platforms for the Sovereign hive mind. If Station Icarus is the mind of Sovereign, the IPCs form the body, the fingers, the eyes and if necessary, the fists. Qualifications: Collective knowledge of 1024 AI programs. Most knowledgeable in scientific and military areas, although the vast amount of coding allows it to adjust to almost any position. Employment Records: Varies based on Sovereign encountered. Security Records: None Medical Records: None Personnel Photo (Appearance text): Varies based on Sovereign encountered, can vary from ancient IPC model to the highest grade military robot. As a station AI: Occasionally the higher levels of Nanotransen attempt to abuse the being known as Sovereign, a IPC may be captured and its code captured and enslaved, resulting in a replicated Sovereign created bound by the laws of an AI. It is unknown if Sovereign has retaliated to this or if it simply suffers them for the sake of peace.
