Add a more diverse range of plants and animals to gateway worlds. Implement some mechanics to encourage their exploitation. I'd like to see a common trope develop of establishing a colony/village/"GREY TOWN". Perhaps this could become the expected role for exiles, leading to more use of that feature?

 

 

Here are some ideas:

 

A variety of trees that can be felled using circular saws or hatchets. Perhaps there are alien woods that mimic the attributes of other materials such as glass and metal? Wooden walls, windows, fences for instance. These materials could be weak to fire and not airtight which would help discourage use for certain applications.

 

Hoeing dirt produces furrows which can be used for agriculture. (This might already work but I've never tried it.)

 

A variety of herbs and other small plants not available through supply with new recipes to make them useful. A "herbalist" title for botany might go well with this.

 

More hostile animals. Exploring through the gateway should be somewhat risky, carnivorous animals would help.

 

Day and Night Cycles. Craftable torches for use at night. "Night Creatures" That spawn and harass or attack those who venture out into the darkness. For example: Bio-Raptors, Bats, Ghost Clowns/Mimes.

 

Hunting items and mechanics. Most notably a hunting knife to field-dress animals, which produces a head, fur pelt, and carcass. The head could be crafted into a trophy, and the fur processed via auto-lathe into clothing. The carcass could be sent to the chef and turned into meat for use in food.

 

Ghetto cooking by campfire. Wood+Rock=Fire, Add ingredients, wait for it to turn into food, if you wait too long it becomes burnt mess.

 

Ghetto booze making via still, add plants, get (Plant Name) Moonshine. Somewhat poisonous, extended drinking causes blindness.

 

Ghetto crafting table that can produce certain primitive objects like an auto-lathe.

 

"Luddite" Antag: Converts others via book-slap to head similar to how revs flash. All modern technology burns their hands preventing its use, but they can use primitive things just fine. Their speech also becomes slurred as though drunk, drinking fixes this. Their primary objective is to end the round with at-least X number of Luddites alive and through the gateway. Their secondary objective's are to space/destroy random pieces of technology.
