Laptops

Ponies recently implemented portable laptops which I believe have a ridiculous amount of potential. I'll write down some of my ideas:

Server room

Basically the transformation of the old nearly useless R&D server room which only really controls PDA and research.

Components

Server racks

The server racks contain data sent from external sources. Each rack can contain data for one service. If all of them are full, then trying to upload a service is denied. If a service is forcefully uploaded, the server crashes and all data is lost unless saved to a backup drives. When Emagged the rack forces services continually until the server crashes.

Input processor

Before anything goes to a server rack it is first sent to this location which can be set to auto (initially set this way), manual or safety mode. Auto allows all services into the server, manual means that someone must personally allow it in and safety mode which automatically scans the program for any generally considered malicious programming (self replicating, breaking laptops ect.). Emagging this sends the received data to any random service. This could lead to other services failing.

Output processor

Data sent outwards is tagged towards a laptop labelled by the service. Emagging it would result in sent out data being received by random laptops.

Services

NT sanctioned

Workplace services are hard coded into Para by Ponies basically. Medical monitering, games which make you jump to a body elsewhere in some random plane (The thunderdome in the bar wink wink hint hint) or anything else players really should not be able to achieve without admin access.

Freeware

Stuff made using the power of NT code (tutorial on wiki somewhere) to create services that the general public may access via a data base (like the library). Software that allows communication between two spessmen must make it's way into a server rack to function properly which can be achieved by either:

1. Giving the RD a disk to compile into a data tray which must then be slotted manually

2. Upload it via NT link

NT link come standard with any laptop. It does take a while to upload however. (Might also need an admin laptop, suggestions within suggestions pl0x)

The RD must place the disk into the DCS (Disk compile set) to convert the disk into a tray that can be slotted in.

Traitors and laptops

Laptops cannot be simply Emagged. One must unscrew the cover revealing the insides, take out the battery and swipe the hard drive. From there you can bypass the normal input processor standards. You must however configure your own virus if you wish it to be effective for anything else other than crashing the server.

Maintenance

The entire room is colder than average, but not lethally. If the room returns to normal temperature then the machinery slowly fails. A machine that fails needs to be screwed open, pried open and then have nano paste applied. A rack that fails simply requires a replacement data tray.

 

If a virus begins attacking the server, it is recommended to hit an emergency shutdown switch (Captain and RD access only) to prevent other data and machinery getting corrupted. The only way to fix this completely is replacing all data trays and closely monitoring the machinery as it boots back up.
