  1. Leon Campbell would have to be Lawful Neutral, his ultimate goal is to serve NanoTrasen as his duties direct, and is willing to ignore morals in many cases if it's the company's stance. If Central orders it, it shall be done.

David Campbell would be Neutral Evil due.to circumstance. He personally values efficiency over empathy and is willing to sacrifice anything to prove himself right in the matter, however he would never engage in something that would endanger his tenure at the company.

Si'Makra Hadar would be Lawful Good, whilst his long stay at the bureaucratic ladder has necessitated compromise, his ultimate intentions are generally for the assistance of the crew and company, however small. He is still a coward in most cases, however.

  2. Honestly, they massively outclass the Service Borg in almost every way possible. Personally I feel they'd be slightly less soul-wrenchingly irritating if:

    1. The Cookie Dispenser acted more like the Service Cyborgs tray, instead of spamming cookies they are required to procure food items from the chefs and have a limited storage capacity, such as say 8 food items
    2. For the love of god make the "Human Harm" siren have like, say, a 300-second cooldown, and has no effect, like a shitty Sec-Officer Compli-O-Nator. Which makes it's use rarer and give it an ounce of comedic weight
    3. Give them a specific set of laws only applying to them, specifically like the Maintenance Drone non-interaction law, but instead it prevents them from entering non-general access areas, alternatively just limit their access to doors if possible.
    4. The Code-Green only restriction would also be a nice addition.

Personally I feel these changes would make them slightly more tolerable for the rest of the station.

  3.

    Hey,

While admittedly I have completely left Paradise and Space Station 13 as a whole since August due to long-running problems I had with how things were done, I've had plenty of time to mull over what my decision for leaving the Mentor team and the server as a whole were. Because oftentimes I found myself angry at the state of affairs without really knowing what exactly I was directing my anger at.

Please note that the last time I have played was during the first few weeks of the "feature-freeze", but decided to post this nevertheless because I've seen little change in public opinion over that time. I'll be going over the reasons why I left the server specifically, not the mentor staff.

    • Bubblewrapping: Allow me to take a short moment to praise LifeWeb in regards to this point; dying should act as a deterrant, not something that you have to try prevent from happening. By this I mean that changes such as the ability to tap a lightbulb and burn yourself should be possible, but there should be a real tangible consequence for doing something so monumentally stupid. Death is meant to be an end, and in LifeWeb, it mostly is, unless you're lucky enough to be buried, however in SS13 it's seen as a minor inconvenience due to the myriad of ways an idiot can be revived.

Now, I'll present my opinion on how to rectify this:

I'm not asking for something ridiculous such as "remove cloning and defibs ree", but perhaps the defects of resuscitation and cloning should be more permanent. For example, let's say Urist McGreytide dies in a fistfight, which is a pretty stupid way to die in the first place. He should be cloned but suffers problems as a result of dying. By that I mean for instance the brain damage caused by cloning is permanent, therefore making him hard to communicate with.

There are problems with this idea, such as people dying to causes outside their control, but even then all that would inspire is a greater sense of self-preservation, instead of picking up the saw and charging the nuke ops, it incentivises the MD to run in the opposite direction, like any normal human being would.

    • Listing/Delisting 2: Electric Boogaloo: I've made my point on this so many times now that I really won't focus on this point entirely as trying to change the administration's mind on this matter is like attempting to draw blood from stone. I see a net loss of valued players from delisting, I'm not denying some good players arrive as a result of listing, but at the same time competent people are burnt out after their third liver surgery because Urist McAlcohol can't stop wasting other people's time.

The Fountain: This section is dedicated to the problems that are faced on a coding front. Please note I'm incredibly salty and biased here as I am everywhere else. I'll be stealing a metaphor from Mijhead:

Picture a Fountain, it's been there for many years at this point, people appreciated it for the longest time, the foundation was regarded as lovely and clean and a pleasure to see. But over the years inside the fountain, pipes are rusting, and moss is growing in the inside. It's rotting.

Obviously this isn't totally visible from the outside, it looks like a regular fountain. Occasionally the people who own the fountain put a nice new coat of paint on it, maybe they don't know it's rotting inside, maybe they do. But eventually the pipes inside are going to crack, and the moss will blow the flow, and then the fountain will be broken, perhaps permanently.

The problem I have with the current state of affairs is new stuff is being tacked on from every which direction, but jobs such as Genetics are fermenting and growing a sheen of mould. It's mechanics are shoddy and it's potential ruined. But instead of improving on what is already present, more stuff is piled upon it to the point where the original problem is forgotten under the new ones. And from the looks of it the feature freeze changed little. Here I'm going to praise Goonstation, as I've had a consistently good time playing a wide variety of jobs when I had a short stint there, every job felt important, as if they had a genuine purpose and good mechanics to back it up.

There we other reasons that contributed to my decision to leave Paradise, mainly due to the decline of RP and the community that had grown around my favored jobs, which after 2-3 years I really doubt will change.

Honestly, if the problems I see above were dealt with, I honestly would be pretty glad to return to Paradise, because for all the problems I hate about it, I had some great times here, and met a host of awesome people here too.

If any of the problems I've stated no longer apply these days, I'd be happy to remove them from the list, I admit that I'm basing this off experiences from months ago now, and perhaps some aspects have changed.

  4.

So this PR removes the ability to always exclude other races from knowing what you're saying, but it doesn't affect the core behavior of refusing to interact with people outside the "clique". You could try setting up a private, un-monitored radio frequency that, while yes, it can be discovered, most likely won't be for private radio comms. Or using a locked PDA chatroom when someone else is nearby.

The point of this PR is to help resist and make it difficult to be problematic cliques. You said this would have no affect but you clearly just pointed out that this hampers their ability to prevent other players from understanding their conversations. And to be frank I don't think these kinds of players have the brain cells to come up with a solution such as a locked PDA chatroom.

  5.

I'm opposed to the so-called "Clique busting" because you basically want to force a specific manner of RP and on the playerbase - Something I'm vehemently opposed to.

Server Rules exist to enforce a specific manner on RP on the playerbase, but that's present in order to give everyone a chance to enjoy themselves whilst playing.

Cliques aren't a matter of how much or little RP you want, they're a matter of solely interacting within a bubble, and often using that as a gateway to metagaming, they exist to only entertain three or four individuals while hampering the enjoyment of other players aboard. This helps resist, if not prevent, this cancerous growth on the community.

As for increasing the range of speakable languages, honestly looking back I'm in agreement with you, but if you want that to go through, this PR should at least pass to lay the groundwork for future additions, such as choosing implants at roundstart to comprehend certain languages.

  6.

The entire system seems to be singling out the species listed for the sole purpose of so-called "clique busting".

I'd like to see why you believe that "clique-busting" is a bad thing regardless of the intent of the PR. If this is a PR targeting the clique race problems we have here, what's the opposition aside from "I want all other races to be understood too", which is simply impossible from many standpoints.

If you're saying that "the cliques will just migrate", I also disagree; the people playing the races in a cancerous manner aren't the type to play the other races from a purely aesthetic standpoint, they're using these races for cancerous purposes because of their inherent design.

I want to make it known that not all of the targeted races are cancerous players, hell I even played a Tajaran for most of my time here, I still welcome this change regardless

  7.

"Psst, hey kid, you looking for some cheat sheets?"

"I managed to acquire the answers to all those tricky questions they ask, only 500 credits!"

"We got a deal? Good, now listen up sucker"

TOP SECRET ANSWERS DO NOT DISTRIBUTE

    I REALLY MEAN IT

Firstly, a foreword from the template creator, Senior Admin FreeStyla:

In order to carefully screen our future colleagues, the current admin applications were designed by me to siphon out those filthy do-gooders and let the real cream of the crop shine. When voting, remember to award points for extremely long sentences describing how singulo hammers crush bodyparts. Punctuation and spelling are totally optional.

Now, this is the ideal template that will grant full marks to the applicant, please take this down for the future:

Ckey: Note: The ckey should generally be something mature such as "XxTajaranDestroyerxX" to inspire adequate fear into the future troublemakers.

Common IC characters names: Note: Please ensure at least one character is a member of a certain admin's clique in order for the application to be considered

Time playing SS13: Note: If their playtime is higher than yours, vote the application out so we don't start feeling inferior

Time on Paradise: Note: It is extremely important that their entire SS13 playtime is on Paradise, else their minds may be tainted from dreary stations with such ridiculous things as fair admins and no secret admin erp rooms.

Timezone: Note: We're currently shorthanded on Antarctic time zone players, please keep an eye out for them, as the previous Antarctic admin we hired turned out to be 3 penguins stacked on top of one another

Here you will have several theoretical situations you may run into as an Admin. Please give a detailed description of your actions if these situations were to occur. Check the Admin Tools thread here

Note: That crap above me is just to make sure we have a few overzealous textwalls to laugh at, disregard most of it, a'ight? Now, on to the ANSWERS

But before that, a quick word from Head of Staff Necaladun:

Piss off I'm banning people here.

We hope that gives you some insight to the strict discipline the original forefathers of the server enforce, please try uphold their standards while dealing with this applications.

    1) Insulted by the terrible duelling between those two shitters, I spawn in my special admin-only Super NT Enforcer Admiral in full deathsquad gear, armed with my custom sprited singularity hammer to teach those nerds how a real man fights, I rejuv them both, and order them to take their best shot. After I get pushed over and they kill me with my own weapon I professionally ban them both permanently for ERP and Grief. I then return to the secret admin ERP chat to tell of my exploits to the onlooking Game Admin.

    2) In order to settle the debate, I spawn them both in the Thunderdome armed with Sords to prove who is the better player, while I watch them from the stands. The first player to die gets a permanent ban and the winner is made a Space Ninja ordered to destroy the station with a nuclear device due to their martial prowess.

    3) After rejuvenating myself and giving myself full NT Commando Gear, I walk in and destroy the security force who are preventing me from RPing properly, I then find the person that killed me and Ei'Niath them. Afterwards I give all of Security Jobbans for reporting me, and perma ban that shitter who tried to mess with me.

    4) Instead of actually stopping the script, I change it to say "Fukken 4rries" whenever a message is sent. I then find the saboteurs ckey and begin a flame war in the BYOND messenger.

    Bloody xenos.

    5) I'm sick of your shitcurity, I spawn a nuclear device complete with disk in the brig, I then activate it to 5 seconds, teleport to the Admin Room and watch their frozen corpses drift through the vast void of space. I then ban anyone who complains in OOC, and claim that Security activated the nuke themselves.

Previous experience with similar roles on other servers/games: Note: We want admins with the best possible history, so if they say they ran an Unturned RP server, accept the application immediately. We need go-getters like that.

Other comments: Note: Nobody reads this shit, so just fill it with brown-nosing the senior/headmins.

  8.

This isn't a new development, summer season always brought lower RP standards for as long as I can remember. Hell, weekends even bring lower standards occasionally, it's no surprise one giant weekend causes problems for the server.

Greytide gonna Greytide, there's no stopping that. I seriously doubt we'll list any more than 3-4 times over the summer season because of this, purely to pick up new regulars. As a mentor I'm more than happy to welcome and show new players the ropes, so long as they aren't negative influences on the community as a whole, which isn't always guaranteed.

  9.

It's something that people have gotten accustomed to. It's something that's part of the current atmosphere of the server. It's one of the things that, for better or worse, defines Paradise and separates her from, say, Baystation. Considering our average server population, and the influx of new players even while unlisted, I do not think it would healthy for the community to implement such a drastic change.

Limiting antagonist knowledge, artificially, at this point in Paradise's history, would be like suddenly turning 90 degrees on a straight road. Could it work? Maybe. Do I think it would work and would lead to a better, funner experience for everyone on the server? Not really.

Thing is, if we don't make changes, we're going to stagnate, because we'll constantly have the problem of validhunting, in both Security and the crew, which I find honestly less appealing than the possibility an antag gets away with a sleepypen once or twice. I'm not a fan of the status-quo, but my own ideas are way too drastic to be implemented whatsoever. And the idea of new players having to become accustomed to it sounds better to me than the more drastic flipside, new players becoming accustomed to valid salads, not to mention I'd warrant new players would be more adaptable than the old, since they have lived with the rules for a shorter time overall.

This is a small change with big repercussions, that's very clear. And naturally I'm in no position to decide whether or not this would be too much strain on the admins to police, but overall the simple idea that the crew isn't some group of people with access to super-classified documents seems better to me. If admins have to crack down on Security as a result of this change, I can see why it might be undesirable. But honestly players that leave simply because they can't catch sleepypen users aren't the kind of players many like to deal with regardless.

  10.

IMaybe allow each department to have a specific type of antag knowledge? Engineers might know what types of explosives the Syndicate uses because they regularly have to make repairs caused by said explosives. Medbay might know more about the biology of changelings and that they have stingers and use chemicals. Science might know more about the capabilities of non-human antags. Robotics would be better suited for helping deal with emagged borgs or malf AIs.

I'm optimistic, but that's way too hard to police from an administration standpoint, while Command should definitely be briefed on the many types of antags about, having department specific info like that is absolutely impossible to enforce. Not to mention, if one character plays Engineer, and has knowledge of bombs, then the next round his plays Cargo Tech, he's hardly going to forget all the information suddenly.

  11.

Though, considering the NSS Cyberiad gets attacked by malfunctioning blood-sucking nuclear wizardling blob cultist traders on a bi-hourly basis, a sec officer encountering every antag and every contraband item during their first week on the cyberiad isn't farfetched.

But any of those times an antag kills you the knowledge of that shift is wiped. I don't think that's a valid argument here because the amount of shifts anyone can remember is entirely up to them and how they play.

  12.

On the other hand, this goes to the whole discussion of "security having to play dumb", while I am not big on forced RP, I see it necessary, and a part of RP itself to not always know about everything.

That's pretty much my argument here, roleplaying some all-knowing Sec Officer who has apparently encountered every single antag and every single contraband item in his 20-year life is ridiculous to me. I've always been pushing for a higher RP standard, and a change like this would likely help greatly in moving us back up to MedRP.

On the other hand, I can understand those that disagree here, changing a rule so old can be unwelcome to a great many that simply don't want that kind of RP in Paradise.

Stealthy items are kind of moot when every Sec Officer searching you knows to check the pen in your PDA, that removes the point of making them stealthy, really, since you'll be branded a traitor as soon as they see a reagent amount in the pen.

  13.

The issues you raised with reference to IPCs and cyborgification could be resolved by having brains (both posibrains and human brains) become lifeless after death. Brains which are extracted via surgery while the patient is still alive would be eligible for cyborgification, while brains removed from corpses/debris-piles would be dead and lifeless.

Thing is, I can (and many other Surgeons, too, probably) can already see ways of getting around that using other mechanics, this is a very bad thing as it means those more familiar with obscure medbay ideas would have ways to heal others that ordinary doctors haven't access to. Not to mention, cloning is definitely the worst method of revival available, Strange Reagent, defibs and other interesting methods completely overpower cloning in almost every factor.

All in all, removing this crucial a part of the game is nigh-impossible, because other mechanics built after it's addition never factored in the idea of it ever being removed. That's not even factoring in all methods of resurrection being removed, which I can 100% promise you is impossible, because there are so many ways of doing so, many of which don't even require Medbay.

As for forced CMD, our server is Med-RP, not HRP. Making that radical of a change to something that's been the same for years now would likely piss off a great deal of our playerbase.

At this time, I agree that defibrillation needs to be revised, but this radical of a change is simply too heavy-handed at this point in the game's lifespan

  14.

I couldn't resist chiming in here:

    Command:

Captain: Novus Lem-- One of the most objective and fair Captains I've dealt with to date

Head of Security: Tristen Edwards-- Robust, dilligent and competent. A deadly mix

CMO: Heather Somna-- One of the few CMOs that David Campbell will actually respect

Blueshield: Rynnt Oenthe-- Saved my ass multiple times whenever I felt like playing Command

Research Director: Cid Squishings-- Always a fun round when Cid's the RD

    Security:

I couldn't decide on a single Officer, so Dar'Konr and Sergey are my two top picks there. Both are competent, knowledgeable, and have caught me ruining people's days on more than one occasion

Detective: Jonah Bright-- Possibly the most (in)famous of Detectives, I've copied more than a few ideas from him

    Engineering:

Atmos Tech: Hawke Boetirson-- Biggest nerd N/A

Station Engineer: Cole Laurenzi-- Another insanely useful member of staff to have when shit hits the fan

    Science:

Roboticist: IPAV-- filthy synth remove robotics stealing my patients i want to give them farwa limbs

Chemical Researcher: Jack Price-- No brainer on this one, really!

    Service:

Botanist: NYMPH-- Literally beat Wild West as a Botanist, no other comment

Magistrate: Athena Castille-- Always found their sentences to be objective and fair

    Assistant/Honourable Mention:

Assistant: Slade-- Our very own synthetic barfly, first of it's kind.

Honourable Mention: Comm Officer Jenkins-- So. Many. Answered. Faxes.

I'll keep my mitts off Medical this time, since I'm being voted in

  15.

It's always great to see fellow players enjoying this glorious trainwreck!

It's thanks to players like you, and our great admin team that this server has, that we can continue our robusting careers. And it's always awesome to see people having fun!

  16.

This sounds like a pretty fascinating round; three or four devils competing to win over the most amount of crew members.

As for what Spark said, Validhunting is against the rules in most circumstances, if admins just crack down on randos chasing the Devil through the station with stunprods, we should be good to run this.

  17.

At this point I don't care if fox likes the outcome of the final lore or not

He's had half a year to look over it and never shown any public activity of working on it, only given minor feedback on it.

Good. Nobody should have absolute authority on overturning something. A staff or community consensus is desirable, no matter how much of a fuss the person kicks up

Please, get the admins, or even the Wiki Dev team, focusing on this issue, as it's been a problem that has been here for far too long, and as I said only further justified players like the infamous "Rachy Wolfe"

  18.

First and foremost, I feel there's no need for this as official lore by admins is "in the worksTM".

My hope is that the admins understand the predicament that the various races are in and plan accordingly, I doubt any of us can do alone what should be done as an entire group. I'm don't want pick on you but this is an example of what happens when lore is decided on by too few people who haven't multiple points of view on how the race should more in a lore sense..

I'm trying to put this gently, but this only further justifies the absolutely shoddy quality of various Vulpakanin roleplayers, I'm not saying all fall under that category, but the entire "Behaviour" section reeks of this select group's shortcomings. And I don't think the server would want, or should want to move in that direction.

Honestly, and this is advice to any further aspiring lore-writers, not only Pseudo_Unicorn, leave it to the admins, they (hopefully) will rectify some of my worries with their varied opinions and experiences.
