  1. My SS13 DnD games come from Facepunch station. I used to DM a quick and easy version where the players had two actions: look or act. It got so popular the admins told us to all be civilians so we stopped going off mid-round to play. It was REALLY good for my typing skills; typing out the story as we went along. Little in the way of crunch: I roll out the scenario, you tell me what you want to do, I roll the dice. I got some stories around I can share....

The super-antags are really not balanced, having them go up against crew just because cultists got caught early would be very unfair and total overkill, imo. You could argue for adding in a super-cultist but it wouldn't get used like that, I don't think.

You're forgetting this is an admin only option. If we want to alter the effects of stuns on them we can do it ourselves. It shouldn't be a preloaded effect.

It sounds like something like the Ninja of old, something used to spice up rounds that died down wayyy too early.

  3. Security by a landslide. 'Shitcucrity' is a thing for a reason. Either we take too long to process you, don't listen to you, brig you for some bs, or get in your way, we've fucked up in your eyes. Security are the guys who will try to stop you from getting greentext most of the time - or do allow you to get greentext, often at your victim's very audible, very trite, very repetitive chagrin.

Medical comes next, because Medical is vital to keeping players up and about rather than down and silent. They mess that up, they take too long, they don't respond at all - your playtime comes to a slow, grating, boring end. 'Malpractice' bay exists for a reason.

Cargo after, often because they're slow to react to orders or commands - especially during syndicate, blobs, or other antag rounds - or leave Science high and dry.

Then comes Science, Command, and Service. They mess up, but often it's due to rare, situational things. Often Science doesn't come around to upgrade your shit or provide nice, but optional, goodies. Command might not be around to change your ID - the horror, the horror! Service might not be around to cook some food - it's a good thing there are vending machines. Stuff like this doesn't really affect the rest of the station as the other three, with Command inching to the top because they handle promotions, demotions, and access while the other two are much more minor.

  4. It is late 2019, almost 2020.

And holy hell, have the 10s sucked. It feels like a stagnant, do-nothing decade. Will it be remembered as such? Politically, the trend has been towards conservatism or moderation. Most of the civil wars started or active in the 10s are still ongoing - Ukraine, CAR, Syria, Yemen, South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Mexico, Colombia, Afghanistan. Iraq might had been the only one to edge out of it, and that's just barely.

Culturally, we're still entrapped by mostly the same rappers, pop-artists, K-pop, and trends from the beginning of the decade - Minecraft came back around, Skyrim is still up, Space Station 13 is still stuck on byond. Zomboid and Star Citizen are still unreleased. just the tip of the iceberg for a new wave of 'gaming' via early access. And gaming itself has degraded into a 'how much money can we sap from people' ontop of the Battle Royale genre.

Technologically, smart phones are still riding high after the bump of 2011. Folding phones, curved tvs, wearable tech didn't take off. Space has hit a sort of plateau; while reusable rockets have been matured as a TSTO thing, 'greater' projects never came to be: no SpaceX or Boeing manned launches, China retiring their stations, US couldn't get SLS off the ground, one big Mars lander to cap it off, a Jupiter orbiter. Some advancements in cybernetics, but nothing mas-produced even for disabled persons. Gene editing was a big scare a few years ago - and then nothing came out of it. No cure for baldness.

And now as we enter the 20s, most likely on the cusp of a recession, what can we expect? Will the 10s have been a big 'staging ground' from which the 20s might soar off from, or is it going to be more of the same?

  5. The main problem is the loot, yea. It needs to be harder to find/get or not exist at all. One of those is better than the others; for sure.

Removing the Meds doesn't help, though. If it's going to be harder, the meds will be needed.

Hell I would say to have two destinations: Rock, and Lavaland. (After all it seems that the lava-planet has a moon). Two full Z levels to explore, but spread the loot throughout. More places for cults/syndies to hide/use. Everything can go on from there.

  6. To avoid any confusion, perhaps the Tresspass and Major Tresspass sample boxes should be of a rainbow color instead of grey. A lot of grey in the map. Makes it seem that Maint is off limits.

Furthermore, is the Gateway simply trespass or Major Trespass on account of it being command-level only access?

  7. A rising concern with Officers is that they are basically beholden to the whim of the door. This has become more and more of a problem when there's actually a cohesive, strong Security but a divided command/AI attention; leading to scenarios where people are being processed on site, on at a time, for minutes on end. Or they lose a vital perp due to maint navigating and time.

Let's not beat about the bush. Security with more access does mean more potential for abuse, stealing, power gaming, and tomfuckery no one wants to deal with. While Security officers are beholden to the law, it is rare for an officer to get anything more than a verbal reprimand for wrong doing. Should access be expanded, any and all complaints about sec officers should be looked into...thoroughly.

This also is a huge buff for security and a huge nerf for antags, who rely on the restrictive access to get things done, so there's that counter.

Maybe instead...Security gains more access with the Code level? Code Green: Standard Access as now. Code Blue: Access to most internal department areas. Code Red: Full Access. On top of a few tweaks at code Green if needed (Gateway?).

    Anyway, thoughts?

  8. But we did try them, a year or so ago, when they got ported in.

In every aspect they're a downgrade. Why would security willingly give up Tasers for Enforcers? We already have a stamina-sapping weapon: the disablers; and they have a option for stunning because honestly stamina can be buffed or there are antags that ignore it completely (aren't there?).

  9. As a legal worker myself, why not have two Lawyers, a Magistrate, and maybe some 'Paralegals' taking up the IAA's old duties - running around, getting reports, solving disputes. The Lawyers can hang more around the brig, the Mag is the top dog watching everything, stuff like that. Could ease up assistant-tides.

  10. I don't like the idea of these sapient beings being subverted by the Syndicate, either. A radical group going on the attack - especially against Nanotrasen, out of their own free will, maybe with Syndicate support - fits the lore better. Otherwise just have the station be attacked by a bunch of cyborgs/robots/androids.

Jetpacks are just miniature rockets. Jetpacks designed for space have very low thrust to weight ratios as they don't want to injure or kill their pilot by over-accelerating. If gravity comes into play, you're probably not going to get anywhere. Maybe if you're on wheels you could use them, but your feet are more than enough traction under normal scenarios. Now if you remove the gravity, but keep the atmos, air resistance at low speeds is negligible, so you'd be fine to use it.

So it might work when gravity goes down. Thus being of very limited use.

  12. A few rounds back last week, I remember this officer doing his own thing. First time was when I crossed them stripping the mime down in the prisoner-locker room; and they told me not to interfere when I thought the mime invisi-walled them. Anyway, they said that they were doing it on 'HoS orders'. So, okay. I go back out on patrol.

Soon we get a call about acid peels. Okay, we deal with the clown fast enough. Then I hear calls to arrest that officer in particular. I ask if they warned them first, and they did. The officer was going around, slipping everyone with acid peels. ...Okay? So the guy's near me, I taze and cuff him, drag him to processing.

He starts complaining to high hell. The flyboy comes along and tries to talk sense into him, that he's not a clown, that these peels hurt. Result: Shitcurity was spammed 40, 50 times, and he SSDs. Then later we stop the mime from [justly] suicidin' themselves, we find out that no, the HoS didn't tell him to perma the mime for...trespassing.

That guy...that's the epitome of shitcurity, so far as I've seen it. There are the guys who love rules, the guys who think antags are terrible people, but this guy? Pure shit.

  13. I play Human as it's familiar, and none of the races really 'appeal' to me personally. Vox come close, though.

I play security mostly as its duties are tempered by a lot more randomness and difficulty sliding than other jobs. One moment I can be chasing a cult, then protecting a NT officer eating the chef's food to helping traffic along to attacking the AI sat. I don't really play to bust the antags, nor to be robust - but just to keep the round going along and to protect the civvies.

  14. Name of Event: Owlman vs The Griffin on...Cyberiad!

One Sentence Description: Owlman and the lawful crew try to stop the Griffin and their vile hordes of henchmen from stealing and running away with vital items!

    Map ChangesNo

Will this work with the standard NSS Cyberiad map? Yes, with the addition of the OWLBRANCH and GRIFFINCAVE!

Code ChangesNo? Maybe? It might be a mix of rev, vampire, and stuff like that.

Will this work with the standard Paracode base: Maybe?!

    Suggested Number of Players: 60-70+

    Full Description of Event:

Chaos! As the Griffin sneaks on board the NSS Cyberiad, allegedly recruited by the vile syndicate to steal vital items from Nanotrasen! Supported by the masses of gray assistants, mostly impressed into service via the Griffin, the Griffin will stop at nothing (well, murder and extensive damage) to obtain the vital items on his wish list!

But fear not! Nanotransen has found favor in the eyes of OWLMAN, a mysterious superhero from beyond the trees. As he arrives on station (with or without a sidekick) with his garden-tree-house base to aid security in nabbing the vile Griffin!

Don't mind all those cameramen, crew! They're just here to nab the exciting action! To record the daring escapes from the brig via the Griffin! To see the awesome robust fights in front of the whole crew at the central primary hallway between the forces of Order and Chaos!
