  1. I would say SR is the bigger issue than cloning itself.

While it's true that cloning can be out of the jail card situation it can go a bit hectic when the population overflows.

And still it takes time to clone somebody. SR on the other hand is insta magical life juice

Again. Cloning itself is NOT the issue, it's oversaturation of revives coupled with a very high Power Game mentality of :"More effective to do X then Y" as opposed to roleplay. Removing cloning will not fix that nor make people roleplay, it'll just encourage them to power game even harder to avoid death.

Until Mentality/Community gets more on the same page about Medium RP needing both RP -and- gamepaly, as opposed to a min-max mentality, this problem isn't gonan be fixed by a silver bullet.

I really like that quote from Dinarzad, I think it summs up the situation perfectly.

It opens a discussion for more thoughts, like some people treating ss13 like a competitive game and such and trying to "win" over others.

But that are the problems of Medium Role-Play, really when L-RPers and H-RPers clash with each other.

I think that getting people back to life should be a little bit harder, maybe give clones a longer hibernation period that they would need to be fully formed? And give additional cons and disabilities if someone would rush it? I dunno. It's hard to rebalance one revival method without rebalacing the others, really.

If cloning will be nerfed we will be more dependant on defibs and SR (we kinda are right now). Likewise, if we do something with one of the other two the cloning could become the primary way of revival. The problem is to make returning from the dead more... meaningful to a player? Does that make sense? :P

  2. And you know, even violent objectives might be fun if the game encourages the more subtle approach than just simple beating someone with an e-sword to death.

But I think it's cool to get more options. I like to assassinate, from time to time, but I can see a niche for those solutions.

If we want to trully create a medium RP playerbase instead of "I'm unsure of whatever I RP or just robust". There is a very subtle difference here..

I feel like this suggestion will just gimp any antag who needs something from Medbay.

Yes, because medbay doesn't have anything to do and just spends all the rounds stoned. ;)

As for your second opinion, I'd say it won't be worse than super-bullshit-SR-magical-resurrection. This IS making antag's life harder. And playing a medical staff member less fun.

Having someone dedicated to get rid of people, who.. let's say... break in to the ORs during operations, or steal medpacks, or just slip you when you're attending a pateint because it's all damn funny...

That sort of thing, you know? :)

That's the thing that medbay guard should deal with.

So...after playing this role a few times here's my review so far. A few shifts I got to play the role I intended, patrolling medbay, so far I've stopped 1 antag who was attacking someone in medbay, stopped a few scuffles, and arrested a few people who were wanted and just strolled into medbay. I keep being partially terrified someone is gonna complain to an admin about my "fake security class" and I'm gonna get hammered for valid hunting or something. I did spend a few shifts just literally helping where needed medically as there were no threats to medbay all shift.

Getting access is sometimes a pain in the ass...especially if the HOS isn't familiar with me. It'd be alot more fun to play if I didn't need to pull teeth to get access some rounds, half the time I'm waiting in thevery HOPs line and hearing about something awful happening in medbay that I WOULD be helping get with bit can't yet. Hopefully if I and others play the role enough it'll give reason to add it (dunno if anyone but me has tried...)

    Glad that you tested it.

I think it shows that there is a niche for such job.

And yeah, I'm not saying that the medbay is the only place that would need such bodyguard-ish service, but it's one of the places that needs it the most. Also gives sec more time to focus on actual antags and not being forced to chase greytide that are breaking stuff in medbay. ;)

Medbay guard isn't meant to be lethal, the priorities that this class should have is just keeping the patients and medical staff safe from troublemakers. :)

    So an Orderly.

That's the word I was looking for!

It would provide an alnternate option for being able to deal with troublesome patients without the need of calling sec.

I'd say an Orderly wouldn't even need to put people in cells, rather keeping them away from medbay.

Sec is supposed to be police of sorts, and we all know how hectic life on the station can be on red (or even blue) alert.

Many times, even if the officer manages to get to medbay it's often too late, the damage is already done.

As ZN23X stated, in calmer times such person could assist in basic medical aid, or even sit at the reception.

Dunno, I feel that there is a niche for that.

Especially, that many people don't play security, because it has a certain pressure and responsibility to it.

Orderly feels less stresful on the longer run.

So maybe I can blame it on how often I play a Doctor, but the sheer amount of uncooperative patients can be overwhelming.

And sure, you can just ignore them, but the Hippocratic oath makes you feel uneasy.

That's why I'm wondering - how hard would it be, to actually add a muscle with a stun baton to the medbay?

Not your typical, everyday sec (they have lot to do without having to chase a guy who stole the soap from medbay), but instead just a guy dedicated to... let's say making troublemakers at medbay more cooperative?

    What do you guys think?

    Good idea/Bad idea?

Some of the parts of the medbay feel criminally underused, while psychologist, having a potential that it has, could be utilized more.

Maybe make him more helpful in healing addictions? It's kinda funny how easy it is to heal addictions these days, and that way you can give the role SOMETHING to do.

It depends on how you look at things.

At the current level of population of Paradise it is kinda obvious that greytide is gonna to be a substantial part of it.

No matter of what would you do, there is simply not enough roles to accommodate all the people.

And yes, Rage Cages can be a pain in the ass for the medbay and security, but frankly...

I preffer them breaking their own faces, instead of breaking equipment on the station.

And as Birdtalon mentioned, it's bad when they force you to participate, bu other than that...

...in general, I see an ambition to improve the RP aspect of the server, and in that matter consequences for such behavior should be more ICly, rather than OOCly, really. This touches on whole different problem - IC punishing.

On how brig should be reworked, on how perma and labor camp should be used more often with such large population in mind...

...and on how they should still provide something to do, instead of making people go ssd, despite being punishment.

Many years ago I was a DM on a Neverwinter Nights server and one of the admins brought up a very similiar naming problem.

And yes, here I am part of the problem by naming my character Greys Anatomy (changed it, after admin asked nicely, but the pun is still there), still I assume that Grey names can be a little bit weirder, since they have sligthly different concept of naming and using language than the other races.

But I digress - coming back to my opening statement, it became what many people here brought up here, of course that obvious pop fictional (and real) names were prohibited but people still managed to snuck in those simply because some of the other DM didn't knew the character.

Heck, I even created a bunch of characters myself named after real world philosophers and my colleagues haven't noticed.

So honestly, it's hard, if not impossible, to draw the line.

I think that you can use some of the fictional names for roleplay purposes, you know?

Like "my parents were crazed about this ancient legend about war in the stars and changed they surnamed to Skywalker".

It CAN be used and actually have basis in-universe, if the player is smart enough to play that card.

From my own experience I can say that I'm against very strict naming policies, as they will make admins to work as " the name police" ("but player X has a name that appeared in show Y! Why are you making me change my name?!") and will literally solve no RP problem whatsoever.

I would say that as long the name IS within race's naming standards and it's not vulgar, it should stay.

  11.

By no means I blame the nukies themselves (or even admins by admins for that matter) for the quality of the rounds. ;)

I just... dunno, feel that there is a certain blandness to nuke ops rounds lately.

Maybe I'm wrong, just wanted to see what other players have to say about it!

  12.

So yeah, this is my first post and sorry if I sound like I'm complaining or anything, but lately... I think nuke ops rounds doesn't feel very fun.

I'm by no means a veteran player (stopping by, sporadically since two years) but.. I dunno, earlier you had the feeling that nukies and the station are evenly matched. Now 80% of the Nuke Ops go as following: Half of the shift is calm and quiet and then everything goes to hell. You have like 3 security officers on the station? BAM! We give you 6 fully armed nukies that go through the station like a lawnmower through some fresh green grass.

I get it, traitoring is integral part of this game.

I, myself, love some solo antagging...(lings, syndies) but it feels underpowered compared by the raw destruction that is a full team of nuke ops.

And even if they don't get the nuke, vast majority of the station is obliterated.

You know, I don't mind dying in this game. Really, sometimes you need to appreciate the finesse people are using to get to you, or your demise is simply very funny.

But when you die because of nukies Rambo'ing through corridor... it's kinda anti-climatic.

And it's funny, because Syndie Infiltrator mode is not so different, but feels much more fun.

Heck, station still is in flames, but you can see people fighting, having some sort of chance.

I don't know, I may be totally wrong, that's why I wanted to post it, see what people more experienced in the game think.

It's just... when the round is nuke ops again I just roll my eyes and hope it to end quickly.

And most of the time it ends exactly in the same manner.

    Dunno, discuss!
