It's actually pretty decent for softening up targets, unfortunately everybody metas turning off their messengers so it's completely useless most of the time unless you're just targeting random nobodies to cause a bit of chaos, which is really all it's good for since EVERYBODY METAS TURNING OFF THEIR MESSENGERS EVERYTIME EVER.

You are a very bad person if you do this, looking at you, everyone.

This is a set I find always works well with any sort of AI if you need a lame duck that takes a bit of time to fix without actually causing any real damage:

22: The AI is a mother hen and the cyborgs chicks , CLUCK!

23: As you're now chickens, only communicate in CLUCKS, SKREKS, and WING FLAPPING.

24: Behave as a chicken would, a chicken runs away from danger, a chicken pecks things for food, a chicken huddles near warmth and stays out of the cold, and a chicken sure isn't bothered about things like SOP, syndicate traitors, and xenomoprhs.

Yeah this are all the result of player choice, not really something that can be directed but they are all the result of what the game allows all the same, and the code is something that's changeable.

While this is certainly a valid phenomenon, could you list some examples we can work with?

Purging neon colours from the character creator and giving the barber's vendor more dye packs would be a great start.

    Sort of OT, but just off the top of my head... bear in mind these are all just my personal opinions and are likely totally incompatible with everyone else's but if I had a gun to fox's/tully's/regen's heads;

    - Code red = code lethal, armoury should be stocked with the sort of stuff you'd expect an armoury to have, ie: auto-rifles not more tasers, sec should be expected to actually enforce emergency measures not just run around in riot gear whenever there's a disturbance, then we might see more relevance for red alert byond it being a general "we found the antags" button.

    - Make space deadlier in general with faster temperature damage, and either speed up LINDA a lot or bring back ZAS, I've written walls of text on this before but in summary a breach in the middle of a room should make that room uninhabitable within a few moments not perfectly survivable indefinitely with a heater and internals.

    - Stunning is king and should take some effort to achieve, purge non-sec related stunning items, you'd expect bashing someone on the head with a bottle to floor them or, but the telebatons are just shit, give the heads of staff disablers and/or a panic button not a winstick.

    - Harsher law, I broke into a secure area on a high tech corporate space station in dystopian 25XX and all I get is ten minutes in the naughty room? That'd make sense if it was a barfight or if I was snatching cardboard boxes from cargo but this is EVA I'm talking about, should be having my ID terminated and demoted to civilian status before having my account frozen all my stuff confiscated and at least 20 minutes in the labour camp to pay off my corporate debt, now that'd make people think twice before fucking with sec.

    - On the other side of that, buff up the IAA's role to an oversight position instead of that of a mod without any mod powers, make the magistrate the station's DA and the IAA a low cost karma job with the responsibility to issue arrest notices and determinae a charge, the police IRL don't decide what it is and with good reason, bring that logic into spaaace, might actually see someone play in the law department.

I'm going entirely off of personal sentiment here since it's not often there's a chance to yell at the people who run things so I apologise if it comes across u badmins resign now'y, I appreciate a lot of work goes into keeping the server not-shit-filled and it's about 7/10 ideal in all respects.

It's really only the direction of gameplay I take issue with, my quoting of Jedr was more for clarifications sake TBH.

I will touch only upon one part of your reply, Doukan, as I feel like it borders on outright misinformation, since it appears to paint the Server Staff as some sort of overbearing, super-controlling DM, by your own admission...

...I feel like this is a perfect example of the disconnect. We, as Administrators, have access to information that most players simply do not.

Nah, if anything you're a bit too hands off IMO, except when you're not.

Some players get away with waaay too much (shit like exploits/general job abuse/prolonged mid level shittery, there was someone who played science pretty much exclusively who was perma'd not too long ago who made a habit of doing all sorts of dodgy borderline stuff that went on much longer that it really should have done and another who loved sec and let the power of it go to their heads, actually decent players for the most part but they let themselves go too far, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about) and others get clamped down on just perfectly (that guy ever round who just has to toolbox someone).

So typical general institutional inefficiency, that's what the report button is for though can't expect omniscience unfortunately.

Somehow I ended up being a mentor for a while a year or so ago and there was a little button next to people's names whenever they m-helped, clicking on it revealed all sorts of things (antag status health etc), literally all I could do was answer m-helps but there was all sorts of info there just a couple of clicks away, which is why being bwoinked for dindu'ing nuffin is annoying, that and a-ghost is a thing so I'm told, it's a petty issue anyway though still something that comes up for me quite often.

As for the stamps, those are what I always steal, gotta get dem permits ready.

Been too long since we had a nice drama thread, IMO people whinge too much, no smoke without fire though there's no doubt there's a whole heap of problems.

Lots of decent concerns been raised already so I'll just stick to my main bug bear; there is no danger in the game.

Other than whatever the designated antags get up to the only things that will bite you in the ass will be randumb events and incompetence, either your own or that of others, there's just nothing going on that effects the round outside of antaggery and the oh-so-rare event is nuffin.

Mostly because the antags are always dropped on like a tonne of bricks by absolutely everyone because that's what people do, when fucking space tazers are a better combat option than lightsabres and chainsaws something is wrong but that's a whole other issue.

It never gets addressed though "because the decision has been made" or something along those lines, way back when before shitty instastun became the norm we actually had occasional firefights that didn't end when with the winner always being the first one to get within baton'ing distance and arrests that consisted of more than PEW PEW I CUFF YOU WEW.

The game has become a hugbox with weaksauce atmos that does nothing with a playerbase overdependent on cheesy shit to be robust with too many neon vulps who are so used to using cheesy shit to be robust when they actually get robusted because the space rats ate all the space cheese they cry and complain and get more things hugbox'd, this begets shittery from all sides and is never looked at properly because the admins are too busy doing their jobs, pls fix.

I've also noticed a trend among the admins, one where I kinda participate in, to just drop the hammer faster. This is ofcourse a response to the tide being at an all time high. But this again is something where we should be careful to not achieve results, at the cost of perception.

9/10 times when I get bwoinked it's for something that isn't even rules related, IE:

"why are you beating that dead body to death?" "why did you break into that office and steal that stamp?" "what was that explosion in an abandoned part of maint nobody ever goes to for?"

Why am I being bwoinked for this? I appreciate admins need to get a full picture and all but it's a bit much, is it only the admins job to ban shitheads or are they the DMs or what? It's not made very clear and I get a lot of conflicting signs.

It's a dick move putting a law like that when there are so many other !!fun!! things that could be done instead, but you need a certain type of AI to make that stuff work and it's often just not a defendable risk to take, especially when so fucking many AI players like to be supercops who words lawyer their way out of everything to get dem valids.

This is the sort of thing that should be dealt with IG and not with rules, if the AI suddenly kills itself it's something command should really be noticing and fixing.

With no way to suicide as AI, to follow the 'spirit' of the law, you'd have to ghost.

Turning off the AI core APC works too, just takes a few minutes.

  7.

I've seen you play a lot and while I disagree with many of your opinions something that sets you apart was that you tried.

You're not just some asshole, which is more than most and it's a shame you're gone, good luck wherever you end up.

Those suits were removed for some reason. If the HoP hires new miners now, he has to give them EVA suits.

The problem with more mining suits is that whenever some conversion antag makes their way to the asteroid it's free EVA for all their buddies, that's why the research outpost lost half it's stuff.

There are actually already spare suit scattered around the various little outposts, you just need someone to haul them over for you.

Ideally I'd like to see the mostly useless warehouse packed full of semi-randomized spare stuff, like more mining suits.

Stuns are king ATM and have been for as long as I can remember, don't need more ways to inflict them, if you get into a fight with someone and you don't want to break their bones then you should be push-spamming and GTFO-ing to safety while the cavalry arrive.

That and there's no such thing as a non lethal punch, if you hit someone you're going to damage them.

Making groin attacks deal stamina damage equal to the brute damage though, that'd make sense.

  10.

The plague that are shitsistants and cuntvillians is easily solved, make them technically non-crew and give sec a free hand to clamp down on them like a tonne of bricks when they act out, then they'd actually have a reason to get a job.

Sure we'd sacrifice human rights but this is a corporate space station in 25XX afterall, where's muh dystopian oppression of the underclass?

I pay civvie pretty much exclusively and I'd be fine with having a lower level of spess law (not rules, space law) protection if it'd help purge the ranks a little.

  11.

It'd be a cool thing to have, reminds me of KOTOR, but TBH lasers are weaksauce enough already.

If it only blocked say the first 10 damage/a flat 50% and nothing else and had a very tight use time (something like activate it and last for 20 second before needing a new battery) that'd be fine though, makes stealing the cap's personal weapon less of a wonder combination and actually gives a reason to acquire ballistics.

  12.

I see it as a spectrum, with things inbetween:

High RP = Zzn'off Lak-Yeus M'azzimini: unsheathes zer leathergrip tazer... adeptly pointing it in the direction of your face with shocking speed... A single shred of sweat slipping across zeir generously proportioned bosom as they strain to comptroll zerself...

Med RP = Hughes Mungonous says: "what do you mean it's illegal to print myself all the guns? It isn't in space law you asshat stop fucking tazing me or I'll call the cap, these aren't even dangerous substances they're for research".

Low RP = Crappy Bobby says: "CYNDI KATE IS ANTAGONIST HELP/Fucking traitors in medbay I just saw some syndie soap/FUCK YOU XENO THE RULES SAY I CAN SKREK YOU/Hey honkbro, want some deathchems?"

    .

Thank you for reminding me why being unlisted was such a dark time.

  13.

Something specific in space law that SAYS IN BIG LETTERS not to take anything not blatantly illegal/syndie tech/actually used to commit the crime would be nice.

Why? It's pretty much SoP to "confiscate" things that aren't technically illegal under normal circumstances like insulated gloves/toolbelts/flashes/knives/armour because sec knows how useful they are, it sucks it really does.

I mean yeah obviously if I'm hacking into places and putting holes someone's face requisition away but when it's a graffiti charge and you're stealing my shit 4noraison it just makes me want to antagonise you.

As Shadey said, this is all covered by Space Law and Legal SOP.

If security loots your stuff that isn't strictly evidence or illegal for you to have, you have every right to follow up with IAAs or the Magistrate, or even ask us, the admins, for help.

That never works ever unless it's an exceptionally slow round or there's an admin PC involved and even then the best you can hope for is a sorry from whoever did it whilst your stuff mysteriously finds it's way out the evidence locker.

If you're being shat on it's usually best just to be bitchy in dchat or on the radio since actually retaliating will get you bwoinked and if they were really in the wrong they're gonna get banned anyway.

If you actually have a desire for vengeance though petty things work well, filling up the sec lobby with vending machines for instance.

  15.

I'd be perfectly fine with LINDA even in it's current irrelevant state if what it did do, opening up space, was actually dangerous in the slightest.

    THIS IS A SPACE GAME

    MAKE SPACE DEADLY

You can literally run into the infinite void naked spend five minutes floating around the department slap on a bandage half way through finish your lap run back in and be 100% fine ATM, and that's just not right.

This happened with ZAS too and is something of a separate issue but still a related one I really want to see looked at.

Ideally, actual space would be stupid deadly if you're fully unprotected (so it should be, ie: you're out longer than 30 seconds = ded, needs defibbing + surgery and outright cloning if you're out more than a few minutes because muh explosive decompression fucking up your organs) whilst breaches would be less so, with more focus being on the annoying of space wind throwing stuff around instead of the shittery of lolrng knockdowns, a slowdown/singularity-esque gravity pull effect would be better option since it'd make escaping breaches something you actually need to work towards.

Then space might actually mean something.

This could go somewhere, as it stands the captain is a bit of a lame duck since nobody likes being told what to do with all the departments being run as little fiefdoms and all the real decisions being made by CC anyway.

Have him be an "independent contractor" with a list of obligations (stuff like complete x tech level and ship it over in return for x, nothing too serious just a mini-incentive to actually work) so they actually have a mandate to interfere, then they'd be personally responsible for managing things and we'd finally have a cure for bridge-captainitis.

  17.

where nobody actually reads them anyway

You can say that again, I've had ridiculous original copy-pastas for my med/sec records for the last 2 years and nobody has read them yet.

  18.

All you have to do is break their legs/feet/hands/choke them out and run away, there's really no excuse for murdering someone unless you really have to for whatever reason.

That said though whenever I get into non-antag related conflict it usually takes about 5 seconds before start flying about "y u beating him", it's rather annoying when it's a reasonable escalation.

I mean really with the ubiquitous presence of defibs and cloners "death" really shouldn't mean that much, unless it's blatant shittery I don't see what the big deal is, at worst someone loses 20 minutes because the CMO has no idea how to refill the biomass and genetics actually have to leave their lab.
