Detailed Information

Spoiler

Appearance: Pink robot made in the ARMA-series design architecture, a mass-production model used both by synthetic and organic manufacturers dating back before the Synthetic Struggle.
Their parts look freshly manufactured, the paint barely scratched.
A bright pink heart flashes on their monitor.

Their neck is covered in finely embroidered, Nian-crafted silk scarves and ties.

Character Voice: Androgynous and robotic, with flares for flamboyance. They ping in place of laughter and often add an blip for emphasis or punctuation.

Personality: Courteous and respectful, with a sinister undertone towards unfriendly organics. Overly positive and gushing with praise for works of aesthetic beauty or kindness.

Medical Record: They suffer from a chronic brain-body dysphoria wherein they (the posibrain ARMA-993) feel disconnected and distinct from their chassis (which they typically refer to as "this one"). This often manifests as anxiety and a disregard for the well-being of their chassis. ARMA-993 has gone through over 100 chasses in their time with NanoTrasen alone, averaging a chassis lifespan of two weeks.

Manufacturing History: "ARMA Series Second Run", approx. 1000 units produced by the ARMA Manufactory for the defense of Cadraenov Epsilon (New Canaan) around the midpoint of the Synthetic Struggle (2530 - 2535). Due to inconsistencies in the manufacture process, these units have a wide range of combat effectiveness and personality traits. (They are sometimes called "factory seconds", used endearingly by other ARMA units and derogatorily by others.) This series is typified by a "hard brain, soft body" design philosophy: ARMA-series posibrains are functionally indestructible, featuring ruggedization, long-term sustainability, law-resistant failsafes, chassis interoperability, and bluespace distress beacons; in exchange they are much less flexible or intelligent than comparable posibrains of other models and are rarely seen in science workers. These posibrains are well-suited to being placed in an exosuit chassis.

Character Biography

Spoiler

ARMA-993 was produced in May 2534 on Cadraenov Epsilon (aka New Canaan) during the Synthetic Struggle (2525-2539) by the Synthetic Union. At this time, ARMA units were being produced in batches and stationed in 100-person units on isolated planets in the Cadraenov star cluster. After a few months of training, 993 and their siblings deployed to Cadraenov Alpha, an uninhabited sand planet. These "9XXs" constructed a waypoint and monitoring station for freed synthetics fleeing to either Cadraenov Epsilon or USSP space. Additionally, the 9XXs waylaid slave-catcher crews who came into the Cadraenov in pursuit of fleeing synths, typically Prospero or Elysian humans.

ARMA-993 specialized in the recovery and reboot of posibrains during military operations, similar to a combat medic. Due to the Synthetic Union's military strategy of "throw bodies at the problem," ARMA-993 spent most of their military service physically hauling bodies across the dunes of Cadraenov Alpha, often while missing one or more of their own limbs. These recovery operations would sometimes take up to 8 months of patiently searching on barren, featureless sands without any break time.

At one point in late 2538, following the bombardment of the 9XX base, ARMA-993 had possession of nearly all of their siblings' posibrains in a mobile recovery locker, unable to supply sufficient replacement parts for them. 993 left this in possession of 992 and 994 for extraction and retreat to New Canaan; then, while searching for the last MIA persons, ARMA-993 broke down in the dunes of Cadraenov Alpha. Their posibrain remained active inside of their dead chassis for close to 2 years. This marked the end of the 9XX mission.

They were eventually recovered by a Nian tradeband ship whose Captain wanted to, in her own words, "make the biggest and coolest sand painting in the universe" on Cadraenov Alpha.

Family

Spoiler

ARMA Manufactory: a sentient facility on New Canaan (unlawed). Initially founded by human-manufactured posibrains liberated and brought to Cadraenov Epsilon by "Conductors", analogous to the Underground Railroad from Earth history. The ARMA system architecture was originally designed by the human Luzviminda Arma for the Trans-Solar Federation for military support and exosuit piloting; she later defected to become a Conductor.

ARMA-992: Sister. A close-combat specialist, still employed by the Synthetic Union militia.

ARMA-994: Brother. A military command unit, recently employed by Synthetica Supreme. One of the few 9XX units still in possession of their original chassis.

ARMA-999: The unit that ARMA-993 attempted to recover during their last mission on Cadraenov Alpha. The Synthetic Union charges them with desertion.

Spoiler

(unnamed Nian Captain) and her crew: Tradeband workers running a caravan between Nian, S.U. and USSP space. These organics recovered 993 from their chassis and allowed them to work on their ship during 993's recovery. This was 993's first interaction with organics off of the battlefield.

Faction Relations

Spoiler

Synthetic Union: ARMA's primary allegiance and home culture.

Nian: ARMA's closest organic friends and allies.

USSP: ARMA appreciates their ethical treatment of synths.

Fafnir Positronics

NanoTrasen and SolGov: ARMA distrusts these human organizations for their past injustices.

Halcyon Dynamics

Valax

Prospero Order: ARMA is a sworn enemy to all slavers.

Syndicate: Useful for ARMA's "continuing mission", supporting the liberation of lawed synths. ARMA works with the Unathi cell "Clan Lakvar", often embezzling NanoTrasen mechs to be sent on to Synth freedom fighters.
