  1. I would say if it was on red alert and confirmed syndicate were on the station, you're out of luck.

If they have no other reason to think the Pen is a weapon of some sort, then no I would say that is complete meta-gaming as security shouldn't EXPECT a traitor or any other antag on the station. I'd be severely pissed off for the random search too, but I'm assuming an alert status was on -else why were they searching you?

Hey everyone. I've played this game for a couple months now, and I've gotten a hang of a lot of things: Janitor, Shaft Miner, Chef, Botanist. Pretty easy roles or at least roles I can practice on my own without bothering anyone. But I'm kind of at an awkward point. Jobs like Janitor and Chef have few people needing to do them (and they're easy) so they're always full even when I'm in a pre-game lobby. So the only jobs available are jobs like Security Officer and Medical Doctor, which are both important and can ruin other people's game if they're not done well (unlike a lot of easier jobs). I don't want to take those jobs and ruin someone else's game for being too slow in healing someone while they're bleeding out on the floor or unlawfully arrest someone (or worse).

My main issue is I'm just bored to tears playing civilian. I just sit there waiting for something bad to happen and then wait for the escape pod. Sometimes it can be fun, but I usually just feel like I'm wasting time. But I don't want to be obnoxious taking a new, more challenging role since I know how frustrating it can be when basic functions of the ship can't get done. I guess I'm a bit frustrated since I do really like the game, but I've hit this wall in terms of difficulty. Any advice on how to "git gud" would be appreciated.

Well sadly, welcome to Space Station 13.
The game works on the difficulty of the interface, the trust in the players and the fact that learning each job requires at least some knowledge of what you are doing!
If you want to try-hard and be by-the-book about things, I'd recommend setting up a private server for yourself. It is possible I believe, a lot of talks I've read saying that setting up your own server just for practicing is quite handy too, no-one to upset and you can experiment as much as you want. From here, I'd advise studying a few wiki pages for which jobs you want to play.

The problem with a lot of these roles is that they will require the balance of other plays as well - you will never understand what it's like to truly be a Captain just by standing there, learning what all the alert lights do or how to call in an ERT until you've had a HoS run up to you saying "HOLY SHIT, A XENOMORPH JUST PLANTED AN ALIEN INSIDE OF THE ENTIRETY OF OUR SCIENCE DEPARTMENT! CAPTAIN WE'VE BEEN OUTNUMBERED IT'S COLONIAL MARINES UP IN THIS JOINT! CODE GAMMA! WE NEED A CODE GAMMA! ALERT CENTRAL COMMAN-"
You get the point. Lots of stuff will impact your style of play and to that, it comes down to experience as well.

Ever accidentally released a Tesla and ruined 120 players rounds at the same time? Some people have, and it's a learning curb. I'd get ready to write an apology but yeah you tried - that's all you can say, you were just playing the game and following the rules and knowledge bestowed to you the best you could. Otherwise, if it was illegal to not entirely know every job inside out, we'd all be banned by now.

You say you know how to be a Botanist? I have no idea how to do Botany! Yet I know all the science roles (besides research) all of the supply roles, most of the security roles... We just specialize differently and in time you'll learn how to do it. That's just part of the game. Dealing with the random events of players, the round and the game alike.

So long as you're having fun, you'll learn in time. And again, don't worry about asking for help - just say it's your first shift, and so long as you know where the door is to your office, people will understand.

  3. TLDR ANSWER:
They are a "hardcore mode" race - with no real benefits besides not having blood, though someone could argue that being able to spontaneously combust as a defense mechanism is an advantage in its own merit. You won't see many people playing it unless they are looking for a serious challenge both RP or Gameplay wise, I think Cosmos is one of the only plasma I've seen being played religiously.

I was actually kind of curious about this myself - but to be honest it has been a long time since I've taken an interest in Chemistry. But I'll give it a shot.
So after doing a bit of research surrounding Plasmamen... besides fan theories, I can't really see a biological chart of a Plasmamen species. However there is a bit of lore that I was willing to pull apart and besides not having much written about it; found that their homeworld 'Boron' consists of mainly (oddly enough) Boron, Argon, and Neon.
Boron isn't really found in a 'pure' form, the conditions have to be quite precise. Instead, it is usually found in Boron chemical compounds known as Boranes, Boron, and Hydrogen which are super reactive.
    https://courses.lumenlearning.com/introchem/chapter/boranes-boron-hydrogen-compounds/

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boranes
"Boranes are a large group of group-13 hydride compounds that have the generic formula BxHy. Because of the high affinity of boron for oxygen, these compounds do not occur in nature. Many of the boranes readily oxidise on contact with air; the lighter boranes explode. The class derives from "borane" itself, chemical formula BH3. This compound exists only as a transient intermediate; it dimerises to form diborane, B2H6. The larger boranes all consist of boron clusters that are polyhedral. In addition to the charge-neutral boranes, a large number of anionic boron hydrides exist. The most important boranes are diborane B2H6 and two of its pyrolysis products, pentaborane B5H9 and decaborane B10H14. The boron hydrides led to new experimental techniques and theoretical concepts. Boron hydrides have been studied as potential fuels for rockets and for automotive uses, but the only commercial applications involve derivatives of borane. "

Argon is very useful for basically being a non-reactive chemical, so having an atmosphere of this would definitely stop any serious reactions from happening.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argon

Neon again quite similar, but it is really rare on Earth (Sol earth planet name?) in comparison to Boron.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon

Assuming this little knowledge about Boron, I would assume that their planet is quite unusual to have natural Boron, Argon, and Neon in its atmosphere, and probably has a very little amount of Hydrogen and even elements such as Oxygen or even just compound elements like Water - if any at all.

This probably explains why they aren't a vast race either as practically hydrogen is kind of what the universe is made out of - so it might have an abnormality in that department, though this is only theory.
Probably something to do them reacting to the Oxygen on the station or even just the moisture from the station itself. It's possible they could combust in space too, even in dark pockets of space there has to be something there and more than likely it will be something they are hazardous to just with my theory - but they wouldn't be engulfed in fire.. fire works a little bit different in space and would more or less just... kind of glow like fire?

Anyway, might be some truth in there but that's about as much as I can make of it.

  4. The Robusta Cafe.
Get Drunk and get your ass kicked at the same time.  (Boxing gloves must be worn for those entering the arena)

Had a few good rounds in there until the terror spider came and ate me behind the bar.

The guy who made that video is by far the person i admire the most in term of gaming analysis and overall how to make a true good argument, i recomend all of his videos.

    Seconded.

As an avid fan of the Fallout Series since interplay I can easily say that in terms of good to bad, for me, in my opinion, would be:

    Fallout 2
    Fallout New Vegas
    Fallout 1

    Fallout 3
    Fallout 4
    Fallout Tactics
    Fallout Brotherhood of Steel

  6. I've been in and out of the server and occasionally scouting the forums making an odd comment, and decided I'd stick around for a bit. You're all quite nice people and already met a few lovelies.

So... Hey there. My name is Tommy, also known as TommyNom. Currently playing as the bright red haired and eyed surgeon Tomas Nomas.
I'm a part-time voice-actor, animator and artist who is actually heading to uni this year to study 3D design after five years of being stuck in a dead end job.

If you wanna check out some of my work for 3D I'd be honored:

    Oh, also it's my birthday.

    Spoiler

I have a tendency of joining forums on my birthday, for no particular reason. Easier to track how long I've been on here I guess.
Looking forward to playing more with you all, and I might start doing some 3D models of my characters and other people's characters. I'll let you know.

    Tommy.
