I have been an admin on other games before (not this one) and I understand what it is like to be an admin. Banning without talking to the parties however, is terrible. He could have at least talked in the next round. A quick PM "We need to talk next round, don't leave yet." should be suffice. If they leave, then sure, drop the 1 day ban. But at least then I know he tried. I am very annoyed because this has happened multiple times before in SS13 (though, first time in your server), admins ban without any talking at all. I understand there must be plenty of idiots who are pointless to even try to talk to, but it's still expected.

Let me explain the situation here. With a stun prod, (Illegal weapon), you began stunning another crewmember. Fox sees this. Fox begins shooting you with a stun gun. You begin shooting lasers at him. Both show up in my logs. The rules are clear. No matter the circumstances, no shuttlegrief. If that means you having to be stunned for the last 30 seconds to 1-2 minutes of the round, then so be it.

And why not ban them from playing, essentially a "every job ban" so they can spectate and PM the admin? I couldn't even join the server to ask him what happened. And clearly he doesn't follow the forums very often.

If we were to take such measures to get in contact with every single players we have to, we'd go insane. The fact that you are banned, gives you the option to post an appeal. Even if the ban runs out before an admin can respond to an appeal, it will be the official channel through which we will convey the reasons of the ban. If anything, you may also contact me on the BYOND Pager. I have my BYOND pager open as long as my computer is. Many players contact me through that and get a near instant, if not instant response to their inquiriy.

You could also work on integrating a better system. Filters for chat as to remove deadchat, and only display related players, Logs that are accessible post round, etc. There should be definitive PROOF that the person was breaking a rule before banning them, not just look like it. Imagine if cops could arrest you because it "looked like" you were driving fast, but their speed radar was broken. That wouldn't hold up for 3 seconds in court.

If we were to filter out channels, that would mean those channels would be unmonitored. Which would mean we could not enforce the rules there. Admins require to be near-omnicisent to properly administrate. This means constant damagelogs, dead chat and globally seeing LOOC. That gives us a wider range of action in a shorter span of time. As it seems you are insinuating that you did not break the rule, let me put it straight. You did. You shot lasers, as a non-antag, for no definite reason, on the escape shuttle.

He clearly banned me because he saw me attack someone on the shuttle. But I wasn't griefing, I was defending myself against someone else who was either griefing or trying to kill me. If he either took the time to investigate (which apparently isn't possible) or talked to us in the next round, he could have at least tried to investigate. Why aren't the logs available in future rounds to admins? Are they not stored on the server? You don't have to give them box access, just set up a system that dumps logs into say, dropbox that admins can access.

Yes. Logs are availible to admins. Yet i had them live. And saw it live. Hence, i gave judgement and acted as necessary. Although, if you are curious, let me tell you how does watching previous round logs go.

Step 1 : Find the server date. Yes. Server timezone differs from admins's. Hence, whilst it may be 10/2/14 for the admin, the server may be 12/1/14 or 12/3/14.

Step 2 : Using the debug verb AdvancedProcCall. This allows us to directly call procs. In this case, we use GetServerLog. We then link the proc to our client and set 0 args.

Step 3 : Navigate the 2014 section, september section, 30th section.

Step 4 : Scroll through the log of the entire day. If necessary, use the CTRL+F feature to rapidly scroll through a user's logs. Scroll through all of that user's logs until you find what you want.

Step 5 : Filter out the fuzzing. Logs do not magically contain what we want. They contain all debug, attack, emotes, speech (all radio channels and local), OOC and LOOC.

Step 6 : Try to figure out what happened from the logs and witness accounts from all involved parties. Logs are one thing. What actually happened may be another. Although logs most of the time give us a clear view of what happened.

I have just taken the steps above to once again verify your logs. You stun prod someone, fox shoots a taser at you, you shoot lasers at them. Even if i had looked back or asked you, it is clear. You griefed on the shuttle by shooting someone with lasers.

"Clothing is fiber and textile material worn on the body. The wearing of clothing is a feature of nearly all human societies. The amount and type of clothing worn is dependent on physical stature, gender, as well as social and geographic considerations.

Physically, clothing serves many purposes: it can serve as protection from weather, and can enhance safety during hazardous activities such as hiking and cooking. It protects the wearer from rough surfaces, rash-causing plants, insect bites, splinters, thorns and prickles by providing a barrier between the skin and the environment. Clothes can insulate against cold or hot conditions. Further, they can provide a hygienic barrier, keeping infectious and toxic materials away from the body. Clothing also provides protection from harmful UV radiation." - Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clothing (Seen on 9/27/2014)

The act of hiding's one body under cloth reasoning depends on the culture and time-frame.

The main reason one defines the body as "Taboo" in today's culture varies greatly yet is concentrated on a few points.

-Respect of one self's and another.

-Intimacy of one self's and another.

    -Sanitary purposes.

-Accentuating the intrigue and appreciation of the human body as something else than a "Heap of flesh".

There are a lot of reasons, all more valid than another.

Let's say a traitor points a loaded revolver at an engineer who isn't loyally implanted, or even someone who is, in maintenance, and tells them to give them a jetpack, space suit and set of extended internals or he'll kill them. What would the engineer do in that situation, should they get the stuff for them or die for some EVA gear?

Honestly, the engineer is within reason to do so. The new changes to the combat system as to where you cannot push down someone anymore with a simple disarm and such can represent some of the technical reasons as to why it would be disadvantageous to just attempt and run away/warn others/confront. In any cases that is left up to the player. Admins are not the RP police, hence we will not go and yell at someone for trying to out-robust a syndicate.

The nuke ops have kidnapped several crew members, including at least one head of staff, and are saying they will slowly dismember and kill each one if they don't get the disk, and if any crew come closer, they will decapitate one of the hostages for every move they make. But if you give them the disk, they say they'll let the crew evacuate, through the gateway, mining, or the emergency shuttle. Do you give them the disk and let them destroy the station, ignore them, or rush them, even at the expense of your fellow coworkers? In fact, let's do this scenario twice over, once where the nuke ops have C4 and other bombs lining the shuttle console, gateway, and mining console, as well as having the nuke, and one time where they've just taken a load of hostages.

Now. This is a whole different situation. This involves the entire command staff. And the captain, which is loyalty implanted. As much as crew may take up the offer and leave, the captain has to remain and fight. What is bigger. The loss of employees or of an entire station belonging to nanotrasen? Sure, you can negotiate. But if you refer to law enforcement tactics, you do not negotiate with kidnappers/criminals for many reasons. You attempt to stall them, may it be by making it look like you are willing to bargain, until you have located the agents and mount up an assault to eliminate them fully whilst protecting the disk and valued crew members. That will most probably be assisted by a dispatched Emergency Response Team.

I think the rules need a bit more clarification on self antagging, can an admin define what it means to self antag better?

Let's take an excerpt from the Self-antagonism rule. "if in doubt, adminhelp, and if an admin tells you to desist, do so at once.". Self-antagonism is, well, acting as an antagonist when you are not one. Say a traitor has obtained/is role playing against you and pressurizing and blackmailing you to do some things such as stealing high-value objects, kill someone, ETC, Adminhelp it beforehand. If you have no reply/no admins online, use common sense. For instances where say, a traitor has you at gunpoint and is asking you to do things whilst he follows you, gun still aimed at your poor skull, you are within full rights to do so. But if you have an occasion to run away (Ex. : Quickly opening and closing a door and running away, grabbing a nearby stun weapon and disabling them), you can do so freely. But remember. Always adminhelp when in doubt.

I am only a trial admin. Do not take my word to the letter. Senior administrator(s) are the one which should officially define this.

  4.

Since i have yet to recieve any replies from the people i told on private channels, i'll make this public.

An incident may of just happened. Explosion in the brig in a traitor round. SocialSystem checked, logged an explosion with no Ckey.

PPI was at the epicentre of it.

Went to the admin test area, triggered a drop_bomb with proc call.

Did the same thing. Has an explosion, no Ckey.

Logs of the round may be provided if necessary.

SocialSystems may confirm the fact that PPI was in the epicentre of the explosion when it happened.

PPI was, in fact, not a traitor. And had no valid reason to blow the entire brig, killing most of security in the process and highly hampering it.

Theses are assumptions with the access to the logs and such i have and experiments of my own. Hence i am not 100% sure. Yet all investigations i led all gave the same results.

    For reference, isolated logs

Part of the area of explosion, ~15-20 minutes after engineers arrived to begin repairs. Still has gibs and blood of the officers. Most died/critted from the actual depressurization it caused.

    http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/vivian-james

Vivian James is a fictional character created through the cooperation of 4chan’s /v/ (Video Games) board and indie game developer group The Fine Young Capitalists. She was designed as a video-gaming character inspired by the /v/ board itself and can be considered a humanization of the board.

The character was the result of a series of events in response to Zoe Quinn’s attack on the 2nd wave feminist organization The Fine Young Capitalists (TFYC) while they were trying to fund a Game Jam with the intention of encouraging women to get into the gaming industry.

  6.

The problem here is not Quinn and her relationships. I couldn't care less about what she shoves in herself.

The problem is not her abusing "prejudices" and "how women are treated in gaming".

The problem resides in gaming news.

This event is used as a blinking light on the dash board warning the pilot that the plane is on fire.

We know it. The news have been manipulated by money, backdoor relationships, governmental institutions. Yadda yadda. We can't trust the news anymore.

Then came the internet. Finally. A solution to that. Where people would relate the news themselves. We'd become the media. We'd write our own stuff in our own words without the fluffing of medias. We'd use our common sense. We wouldn't do it for profit. Rather for the sake of being informed.

For the past years now the gaming news industries has been a fuck up. It's become just like news. Of course, anything that's pulling profits from visitors will do all in their power to have more visitors. As fucked up as what they may do might be. It's for them to make their living wage after all.

This incident is just an example of it. Why are people making it go loud? Simple. As stated in the Aristocrat's video, subreddits and websites are being taken down and censoring every damned thing from this story revolving around denouncing it as Quinn being manipulative. Entire discussions threads are being pulled down from subreddits such as /r/games, /r/gaming, /r/pcmasterrace. Down to even 4chan. /pol/, /vg/ /b/ are seeing posts regarding quinn being removed amongst the wave of doxes and immoral threads you see daily.

There's people whom use gaming news websites, reddit and 4chan to relate their opinion and get informed on the current states of gaming. There's people shoving their trust in those websites hoping that in the end they're getting the information so they can then shape their own opinion. But that's not happening. Far from it.

And we need to warn people. To tell people. Abandon the plane. Get the hell out of there before the only thing that remains is ashes.

  7.

Right. Let me clear up some information here as a closure note.

As per usual as of late, i was observing around, doing my mentor duties.

This fellow right here, Occultimate, sends a question. Saying he requires help.

I ask him what is wrong, and jump to him. First thing i see, is a dead monkey on the floor of security.

He mentions that he was killed for no reason by a security officer. Remontoire.

I send a message towards Remontoire's way, which is in fact the warden. As to why he killed the monkey.

He answers my PM with the fact that the monkey waltzed into security, weapon in hand. He then answered with terminating the monkey and recovering it's gear.

From there, i inform Occultimate that his death, may it be against Space Law under animal abuse to the worst of cases, is not up for staff intervention.

I then message Remontoire. I hint to him that our monkey friend may in fact be sentient for having done this stuff, and suggest bringing the monkey corpse to Genetics in order for a possible cloning and re-humanizing of the subject. This is all done in courtesy for the player Occultimate to have a second chance at life.

Occultimate then proceeded to argue. After a while of arguing, he seems to not understand my point. He calls me a Badmin, tells me i am allowing grief on ''My'' server for not applying the rules.. You get the idea. From then, he is only insulting a staff member which attempted providing him help and guidance. This is where our Head of mentors jumps in. He warns the user about his behavior towards a member of his staff, and reinforces my point.

I believed that was going to be the end of that case. I then hop quickly on the forums to see this posted. Now, i thought he was going to maybe cool down and understand our point. This is, after all, a game. That was, after all, a single round in a game of 2D spaceman, must i precise.

If you wished to do a formal complaint, you would of done so in the appropriate forum section. But it appears you do not wish to understand the situation. It appears you only wish to think about you and yourself, and how YOU have to be in the right. This thread is a sole example of this. I can understand by how you ended your thread that you do not wish to play on our server anymore. Well let me tell you. You are not the kind of player we want. I will see about getting you the appropriate ban for your behavior.

  8.

First thing I want to implement - war declaration. Can't capture flags without being at war, you can only declare war against one nation at a time, but multiple can declare against you.

Second thing, shared radio channels, one for each nation, shared when takeover occurs.

Third thing, a guilt debuff (like shock) for people who use lethals instead of incapacitation.

    Interesting!

War Declaration : Whom exactly will be able to declare war? Will it be the head of the nation? Will it be by a vote of the nation?

Shared radio channels : That's interesting. Intrigued to see how that'll work with Tcomms.

Guilt Debuff : By lethals, i guess this will include any kind of harm? Also, this brings me to a point. How about a scoring system at the end of round. Of course, the nation with all flags win. Or maybe this could be a change to that. The more the lethal takeovers, the more deaths caused by people of your nation, the less the points maybe? A whole system could be thought out of this!

  9.

I am not so for this suggestion. Tcomms is what it is.

The living quarters are just fluff. It's not really setup to house employees.

The turrets are setup to prevent intrusion. For a reason. Having an employee work there would mean disabling vital security systems.

There's no real atmospherics system. No medical ward. No nothing to house employees, as mentioned before..

It would require Telecoms to be reworked and remapped. And in my opinion, it's not worth it.

  10.

Maybe there could be two variants of the mech? One security, non leathal red coloured (like it is now) and a olive green (like the fire mech) military version?

Quick question here. What's so important about having a lethal Gygax?

First off, roboticists /aren't/ supposed to have any kind of security mechs. At all. The only reason they'd have one is whilst waiting for the proper authorities to come and pick it up. Otherwise? It may well be considered contraband by Security.

Gygaxes should be built upon security request and at LEAST Research Director approval. They're then to be stored and locked in security for future uses, if required.

Now. Let's say the station goes into Code Red. There's an immediate threat. That shiny Durand chassis you kept? It's time to build it up. This is where lethal weaponry is required.

  11.

Isn't it fine as is? A non essential, fluff type system that NOBODY is forced to use.

Oh. Hello there. Going through costums? Sure Just, fill that paper right there.. Oh.. Forgot.. Administration fees. *hands in EFTPOS*

Hi! Welcome to the Nanotrasen Recruitment Centre!.. Sure, just fill this paperwork and.. Oh! You have to pay your signup fees. *Hands in EFTPOS*

Welcome to the greasy griever. We serve free beers and basic water for the sissies.. What's that? Want a specialty? That'll cost you.. *Hands in EFTPOS*

People can be evil without any effort. All it takes is a bit of willpower :)

  12. That would be really nice! I myself enjoy setting up a localhost server and test the new stuff out. Found a few things and reported them. Having a subforum where people would ask me to specifically break stuff? Yes please!

  13. I believe they are attempting to make the Gygax more of a security force mech. As in, non-lethal. The red armory has a Gygax with flashbangs and taser weaponry. Presumably for riot control. Whilst the gamma armory, on the other hand, has a lethal Durand. So the idea is to make Gygax = security and Durand = military. At least i believe so. Correct me if i'm wrong!

  14.

why does this need to be a karma role and not a civilian alt title/job like the surgeon/nurse are for the medical doctor

    It's already in the code.

That would be fine, its basically a classier version of a civilian anyway sorta like a Librarian.

Just to make sure this is clear, the Librarian is actually considered crew. Whilst a civilian is not. Same would go of a tourist. That has certain impacts, and may have more in the future. (Emphasis on may!). The best you can get right now, is for the NT rep/HOP to retitle your ID to Tourist and get fancy clothes from the Autodrobe!

  15.

It's come to my understanding that many hate the Nations gamemode for many issues. I'll present a handful of them, and possible changes to tackle said issues.

    It's nations.

The simple fact that it's a game mode. It's not in the spirit of SS13. It's not in the spirit of players. Space law is completely void. Rules are hardly applicable, since there's many factors, confusing decisions. It's just not developed enough or thought-out enough to properly be a game mode.

The only "Fix" i could see to this issue? Removing the game mode from rotation. Doing so will force the administrators to change the game mode to that in the lobby if need-be, warning everyone, giving them time to just get out or observe before roundstart.

    Everyone rushes/it's a deathmatch/Brigston too stronk

All of those issues center to a single aspect of nations. The flags. How to win nations? The flags. Gather them all. This will make people go irrational, forget all role play, forget the law, forget any kind of anything preset in any other game modes that prevent them from immediately going anarchy.

Remove the flags. Let nations be an extended round with a major twist. Departments apply space law to their departments. Territories have to be negotiated. Treaties have to be made. rules can fully apply, as it's deemed extended. Everyone's happy. People can play without anarchy!

Brigston too stronk!/Telesci too powerful!/NERF CHEMISTRY!

Certain departments, especially security, have gear and access that makes this game mode somewhat unfair for the lesser-knowing player. People just don't wish, or don't know, how to tackle said issues.

Now, there's no clear fix to this. Really. Sure, someone could spend an awful lot of time making access and items nerfed or equalized for this game mode. But it would be much more tedious than easier "Fixes" That could be applied to this specific game mode.

What are your thoughts? How should nations be handled?

  16.

Granted. Enjoy your bald 30 year old civilian love.

I wish we could roleplay when the shuttle docked. As in, we would actually get processed through the gates and go in the crew areas.

  18.

Is the only purpose of this thread making fun of people? And we have the names too.

You have to have your first time as a Nuke Op...

Fun of people? Far from that. I'm not targeting or willing to bring down anyone. This thread had no malicious intents.

Only to procure a few laughs to some.

  19.

Right! This thread might be a bit of a disorder, but it's late and i'm dead from laughing too much. Seriously.

It all began as a quiet shift. As for fun, i decide to observe. Quickly, i discover that it's yet another syndie ops round. We just had one. Maybe theses will be better and actually blow up the station? Oh how in the wrong was i!

First, uncoordination. "Where's the telecrystals" one shouted, "gimmie the fucking radio!" the other said. And in a wonderful brief event of violence, one of the syndies shot the other with ION. Immediatly putting him in crit. Only to then bash him in with an energy shield. One syndie down.

After much yelling and further stupidity, they finally get the shuttle going. Direction : NSS cyberiad.

Well guess what. This is JUST the beginning!

One spawns in an energy sink. And tasks the other to place it. After another bunch of stupidity and pushing eachother around, they finally jump off their shuttle. Oops! One of the syndies forgot to bring an oxygen tank. Two syndies down.

After many circles around the station were made, two groups were made. One, composed of a single syndie, sets up the nuke in maintenance after having bashing it with a wrench a couple of times, of course. Two others go into the station by depressurizing arrivals and head for the captain's office.

Well, as usual, the crew notices the blood-red hardsuits and the SMG. And yell out nuke ops. But the syndies were already in the captain's office. With much confusion, the captain nears his office only to face a bunch of operatives shooting a cyborg and an officer in there. Away the captain went.

Sadly, the syndies did not bring any locaters. Why? God knows. For the next couple of minutes, they do a stand off with the crew in the captain's office. Causing quite the bloodshed.

But what they do not know, is that in the meanwhile, the Chief Engineer had found their nuke. After a few minutes of bringing it around, they brought it only to a wall's distance to the syndies. Oh. And did i mention that the nuclear disk was in the captain's toilet?Yes! So here they were. Three syndies in the captain's office. Fighting for their lives. When the nuke and disk are only tiles away from them. Not even knowing!

After a horribly fought battle, where most of the syndies died, the crew finally mass drived their nuke into inexistence. The disk remained safe in the toilet.

    One syndie remains.

The sole remaining hope of the operatives jumped in space. Now at the mining outpost, he makes his way into the said outpost. Wasting all of his SMG ammo in the process. Causing many breaches and harming himself. Finally on station, he sets up his damned power sink. Shocking himself in the process, of course. After antagonizing a part of the station, he dies at the hand of a captain equipped with a laser gun and the energy shield.

All syndies dead from incompetence. Nuke spaced. Disk secured. Shuttle is called, crew evacuates.
